As empty as it was, space remained a beauty to those that explored it; the vast stretches of emptiness, the dying stars, the supernovas, the rising planet. It was a living organism, one that needed to be observed with dignity and silence, for anything could happen.

One could have wondered what a dragon was doing there, in the middle of nowhere, in such a hostile yet beautiful environment. How a living being could was able to survive that lack of oxygen, the sub-zero temperatures and the other life threatening conditions that made travelling impossible without any sort of equipment.

Dracon was, however, able to travel in this dangerous environment due to power that he and he alone possessed. It wasn't some biological traits that made him immune to these conditions, but a rigorous magical training he undergo years ago, back on his home planet.

Although the memories were dark and painful, he knew that he couldn't get rid of them, for he would get rid of a part of himself. Images in his mind swirled as he tried to repress them, for they were welcome; they were only bearer of bad news, of the past that he wanted to get over, but there was something that that couldn't pass over this easy, not yet.

He could remember the dark shadows, the creature the wreaked havoc on his home world; although it was now dead, he had the impression that somewhere, it was lying in wait, ready to surface again, when his back would be turn and his spirit occupied with other matter.

However, he knew that it didn't make sense at all; he could remember the fight, the scene at the end, the blood that was spilled on the ground and on him. But it was over and he wanted to grab a new life for himself, for there nothing left for him back there, nothing at all.

When he departed from his world, he needed power and energy to fuel his own magic, so he would able to travel between the stars. After all, such a travel wouldn't be possible on his normal energy, for it was a perilous and long journey, one that would take him to another world.

This need for fuel drained the planet he used to live out of everything it possessed, sucking all its essence. It didn't really matter to him, for he was the last survivor of the massacre that happened on it, making his decision easier, but at the same gut wrenching. He was leaving a burial ground, were all those that he cared about where; a part of him was afraid of was beyond his world, of what could await him.

Even if he had the impression that the future could be brighter, there was something scary about it; after all, he was all alone to face it, with no one to turn in case everything went wrong or that he took the wrong. All the responsibilities and the freedoms were is, a burden that he needed to learn to bear...

However, this wasn't the time to think about such depressing things, not when he was a quest; he had to find a world where he could live, one that would be able to support life. It was an essential element of his quest, for there no point for him to establish himself on a lifeless asteroid.

Even if being the king of his own domain had his own advantage, there was something repulsive about it. Of course the prospect of ruling over an entire planet seemed fun at first, but with time, what was he going to do with all this power? And alone on it, what was he going to accomplish with his life?

There would be so much wasted potential if he would ever wander in this path and he knew it, so that is why he had to resist the urge of declaring himself the emperor of some small satellite; this life wasn't meant to be his, after all.

Anyway, finding a planet with life on it remained his main objective; he knew that the chances of finding another world populated with dragons where quite low, so it wasn't something he was aiming for, at the moment. But perhaps in the future, once he would find a place to stay, he could let his spirit wander in search of such a place, a place where to belong, where he would feel like one with the others.

But for the moment, he had the impression that he had to hurry; although his powers were sufficient for him to explore space and beyond, so it wouldn't be the final frontier, he had the impression that he was being watched from afar.

He knew that it's wasn't the shade he defeated, which was reassuring, but he had no intention of getting followed by some sort of space creature. Or it could be a spaceship, trying to determine what he was doing there in the first place; the scientific curiosity that could animate the crew could be a wonderful thing, but he had no time nor desire to deal with them unless it could help them secure a place on a habited world, which he doubted. After all, why would such a team allow him to leave freely on their planet when they found him wandering in space, probably terrified of what he was doing in the first place?

And anyway, dealing with these intergalactic travelers would be pain; he couldn't risk falling on those that would want to dissect him for the sake of furthering their knowledge. It's not like help could hear him scream in space, anyway...

He could always destroy an intrusive crew, with the powers he possess; if he was able to shatter a magical shield produced by a powerful mage and defeat a dreaded foe, how would a spaceship last against him?

However, doing such a thing could very well be his last action, for it could incense local populace to hunt him down, for they would have lost the people they cared about. It was better that he continued his road, trying to avoid all these contacts, until he would settle down somewhere; with a settlement, he would have some sort of protection against it...

But where could he find such a planet? He had the impression that he was going to navigate in the depths of space, guided by a mysterious force, hoping that the planet he would soon encounter would be the good one.

He was in an isolated solar system, one that seemed a bit away from everything; perhaps here he could a place to call home, even if no guide talked about it. All he needed to do was to find the right place and make sure to have quiet landing, so the people wouldn't be terrified of his approach. He wanted to live with them, not terrify them... or become their god...

There was a small planet, not too far from the sun of this system, but not too close either; there could be a good chance that this was the place he searched all over, the domain he wanted to live on for the rest of his days.

As he was approaching the planet, he turned around and looked for somewhere to hide; he could see one of the ships he wanted to avoid emerging from the atmosphere, probably on an important mission.

Whoever they were, the life forms on this planet were more advanced than he expected, but he didn't mind; as long as he could live his life on this planet, then nothing could stop from landing on it.

Setting his mind on the procedure to follow, he braced himself for the impact and aimed for the planet, hoping that the friction wouldn't hurt him too much. But he had to try, for the sake of his future...

Shaking his head, he realized that the crash knocked him unconscious for a moment, a state that he didn't experience for a long time. But before moving, he needed to know where he was, he wanted to understand he was on.

Looking around, he could see in was behind what seemed to be an abstract construct; he had no clue what purpose it served, but he was sure that for the people living here, it was important, or at least part of the daily images.

He was surprised that no one noticed yet, but it was perhaps due to the fact his recovery was fact and that it was probably a busy, making his presence here a bit strange but undetected for the moment. However, if he was going to stick, he was sure that people would notice him, thus bringing an end to this small period of peace.

As he was thinking what to do next, a part of the moved; it acted as door, letting a person out of the building. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw a dragon walk out of the building; although some physical traits seemed different, at least he knew that he could somewhat fit in, even if he wasn't wearing clothes at the moment, unlike the one that got out of the building.

Lost in contemplation, he didn't remark that it turned around and looked at him, surprise rising on its traits; it was too late to hide...
