"Please, have a seat Mr. Blaiz, there is a matter of utmost importance that we must discuss with you, an opportunity if you're interested." Said the superintendent, a white haired mouse named Dexter. Draco took the seat in front of the principal's desk, curious what he meant by "opportunity."

Bryan, the principal, sat behind his desk looking as though he might break down at any moment, and as though he were only there to observe the conversation between the mouse and dragon.

Draco looked out the window to the school yard beyond as he waited for Dexter to start, his mind drifting back to his high school days when he would spend his lunch hour playing hacky sack with some other guys from school.

He was brought back to his surroundings when Dexter cleared his throat to start talking. "Now I'm sure you have heard about Mr. Sontello who died yesterday afternoon," the mouse started, clearly not wanting to do this. Draco had no idea who Mr. Sontello was, certainly not a teacher at the high school, otherwise he would have at least known who he was.

"Well, he was one of our school bus drivers, and we need someone to cover his route long term. We have someone to take his place for the time being, but that will only be good for about three weeks." The mouse went on, not beating around the bush, clearly wanting to place Draco in the long term position.

"Wait wait, you want me to drive a what now? A school bus??" Draco interrupted, clearly able to see what the little mouse was about to ask. A school bus? Draco wasn't sure how he felt about about this, he'd never considered driving anything larger than his dads old pickup.

"Well, yes, actually, we have been watching you in the classroom, and pulled your driving record, and I believe you are the best candidate to take over. Please, take your time, no need to rush into a decision, otherwise you'd say no for sure. Think it over, you can let us know tomorrow afternoon.

With that, the dragon was dismissed and left the office just in time for the final bell to ring. He left the office in such a hurry that he didn't see the other teacher walking down the hall and bumped right into Jason, causing his papers to spill all over the floor.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I didn't even see you!" Draco went on as he helped the crocodile pick up his papers.

"Don't worry about it, always nice to bump into a friend, even if it is literally" Jason said with a smile on his face. Then he frowned. "What were you doing in Bryan's office anyway?"

"Dex wants me to drive a school bus, apparently one of our drivers passed away last night, and I'm the one they want to take his place" Draco went into explaining, sure that the crocodile knew more about this than he himself did. He was right, of course.

"Ah," Jason said as his expression softened "I kinda figured they would ask you. You seem to do so well with kids, and everyone seems to like you... So are you going to do it?" he asked as the two of them walked back to the theater room for Draco's things.

"I don't know," the red dragon said as he seemed to ponder the idea "I've never even thought about it. I mean, its not something a person thinks about unless they already do it, that is until someone suggests it."

"Don't worry, I know you'll make the right decision, you're a smart dragon" Jason said with a twinkle in his eye that went unnoticed by Draco. With that the two of them separated as they walked out to their vehicles.

Draco took a little detour on his way home, he drove to the bus lot across the street and parked, watching the buses drive in and out of the lot. Draco hated school buses, hated them with a passion, or at least he did when he was in school. They never seemed to move fast enough, and they were loud.

He thought back to his senior year with his best friend, Diesel, and how they would always smoke at the back of the bus, and how his bus driver was unable to control the situation on the bus. Things had changed of course, but the thought still scared him. He wasn't sure he could handle it.

Jacob walked into the house exhausted from work. He was an auto mechanic, fixed cars for Chicken Brothers Automotive. It was exhausting work but the hours were good and the pay was okay.

He showered off, thinking back over the events of the previous night, wondering if he could get some more tonight. Jacob was always in the mood for more loving. His hopes; however, were dashed as soon as Draco walked in the house, the dragon looked like he was in no sort of mood for sex.

"Hey... How was work?" was all the dragon said upon entering the house as he dropped his bag on the counter.

"Eh, it was work, nothing interesting really. Looks like you had a full day though." he commented seeing the look of exhaustion on Draco's face.

"They want me to drive a school bus, apparently one of our drivers died last night." he said as he plopped down in his chair and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, something he hadn't done since they were in college, and started smoking.

Jacob did the same and stared at the dragon. "Well, are you going to do it? I mean, I wouldn't, it would keep me away from home longer than necessary."

"I don't know honey, I mean its more hours, and Lord knows we need the money, and obviously they think I'm qualified, or they wouldn't ask me." The dragon explained as he finished the cigarette.

Jacob stood up and walked around to the back of Draco's chair and started rubbing the dragon's hunched back, leaning in close to kiss his neck and whispered in his ear "You do what you think is right, honey"

That night, Draco had that dream again, though it was clear to him now. The dream had him driving a large bus down the road, a feeling of impending doom came over him as the engine started to smoke. He knew he had to act to save the kits, but he had no idea how to evacuate.

He woke up in tears just as the motor exploded, and he knew in his heart what he must do now.

He got ready for work in a daze, not bothering to say goodbye to Jacob. It was raining again as he drove through town, the water hitting the window in a constant downpour, washing the dust off of everything, making the plants flourish with a vibrant green.

He walked into the teachers lounge that morning to find Jason reading the morning paper, drinking from a furbucks coffee cup.

"I'm going to do it!" was the first thing he said to Jason as he sat down across from the /crocodile, who placed the paper to the side and started playing with his tail as they engaged in conversation.

"I figured you would, you like kits too much to say no to the job." he replied with a smile and accidentally dropped his tail on the table, spilling his coffee all over the floor and swearing under his breath.

Draco jumped up to help him, grabbing a pawfull of paper towels to mop up the mess while Jason picked up the cup and lid. At that moment, they both looked up at the same time and stared into each others eyes and locked. In that split moment, he felt a spark of interest in the other scaily, but before either of them could react, the bell rang for class and they both jumped up to get to their rooms.

That day during his conference period, he placed a phone call to the district main office, where the receptionist connected him with the superintendent's office.

"Hello, Dexter? It's Draco, I was just calling to tell you that I'll do it, I'll take over the route." He told the mouse, taping his claws on the desk surface. With that, he was asked to come in on Saturday to start his training, and also to pick up a CDL handbook and test to get his learner's permit.

During his lunch break, he and Jason drove to the DMV to grab the handbook so that he could start studying, after which they stopped at Pizza Pup for lunch, both seeming to have forgotten the incident from that morning; however, Draco didn't notice the crocodile staring at him with a twinkle in his eyes, swishing his tail in the way a cat might.

The rest of the day went by in a blur, the classes seeming to mash together. When he got home that day, he found Jacob sitting in the living room wearing only his pants. He had put on some soft music and there were candles burning again. Draco ignored this attempt at getting some fuck time, choosing instead to sit down and smoke one cigarette as he thumbed through the CDL handbook.

"So, I see you decided to go ahead and take the job... That's good." the wolf said, clearly not impressed by his mates decision.

"Yeah, sorry honey, dinner is fend for yourself tonight. I have to get a head start on studying for these driving tests." With that, Draco warmed up a TV dinner and disappeared into the study for the rest of the night.

That morning something incredible happened, though he accidentally spilled his coffee, there was a moment afterward when there was a mutual spark between Draco and himself, and it looked, even if only for a moment, like Draco was going to kiss him!

Jason had always had trouble keeping his eyes off of the handsome red dragon, so to him, that moment was almost perfect.

Draco didn't seem to notice the way the crocodile stared at him, with a twinkle in his eyes, and a blush on his face. If the dragon only knew the pain that he felt every time he had to watch the dragons tail slither along behind him as he walked away.

It was true that Jason had never loved anybody, no one ever struck his interest. He had a sex drive of course, but more than that he wanted a true connection, and until he saw Draco, he had never met anyone he wanted to make that connection with.

He had seen Draco's mate up at the school once or twice, and could tell that it wouldn't end well. He kept his maw shut however, as the only thing that would be worse than this friendzone, would be losing Draco completely. All he could do was hope that Draco came to his senses about Jacob and cut it off before it was too late.

Draco spent all night in the home office taking notes and reading through his handbook, his talons and fingers were covered in highlighter markings. He spent hours studying how to calculate stopping distance, proper following distance, how air brakes work, and other details.

When he was done, he placed everything in his brief case and went to bed, expecting Jacob to already be in bed; however, he was still sitting up in the living room, with a rather sour expression on his face.

"You okay honey?" he asked the bitter looking wolf, figuring he was upset by the lack of sex, which usually did cause the wolf to be a bit upset.

"Yeah, sure..." he answered half heartedly, not meeting Draco's eyes. Jacob had put on a white wife-beater shirt and was now walking around with no pants, this was how he dressed when he had been drinking. Draco walked up to the drunken wolf and bent down to give him a kiss, which he didn't refuse.

"I'm going to bed, you coming with me?" He asked the wolf, who looked up at him briefly before looking away bitterly.

"Yeah, whatever." The wolf spat out bitterly, not moving to get up.

"What is your problem?? You're acting like I cheated on you!" Draco asked, tired of the sour mood from the wolf.

"If I have to tell you, then you don't deserve to know..." he said spitefully, still refusing to look at the dragon.

"You have to be fucking kidding me! I have no clue what I did, is it because I didn't cook dinner? Is that it?" He said in disbelief placing his face in his paws.

"You ignored me, its like you care more about your stupid job than you do about me!" he shouted back as he stood up, looking Draco dead in the eye for the first time all night.

"Oh I see, this is because I didn't strip down the second I walked in the door. Well I'm sorry, but I can't afford to have sex every night, I actually do have a job that I have to bring home every now and then!" Now Jacob was just being ridiculous, Draco had felt for some time that this relationship was one sided, and he was tired of feeling like the only one trying to make it work.

Jacob went into the room and grabbed a pair of pants slipping into them before walking out the door and taking off in his truck, leaving Draco to sleep alone.

Draco woke the next morning to see that Jacob still hadn't returned home, so he went on about his morning as usual and went on to work, paying special attention to his driving to keep his mind off of the events of last night.

The next few weeks passed in somewhat of a blur, with Draco spending every weekend in his school bus class, taking the written exams, and managing his classes. All this kept him so busy that his relationship suffered, Jacob would barely talk to the dragon, and spent many nights sleeping on the couch, if he slept at home at all.

After a couple weeks in the classroom, Draco started on his behind the wheel training, the point he had been anxious to reach since the first day of classroom training. He did quite well, much better than he had anticipated in fact. It was a rough start, he rolled over a couple of curbs and stopped a bit too far over the white line, but after a few days he got the hang of it.

The driving test; however, was a different story. His diving examiner was an older grizzly bear, and very intimidating. With his nerves mounding up, he found it difficult to concentrate. He turned his turn signal on too early, stayed slightly too far into the next lane, and hesitated a bit too long to apply the air brakes. By the time they got back to the DMV, he was trying to control his breathing from the stress and nerves.

Taking all this into consideration, it took him by surprise when the grizzly informed him that he had passed the driving exam, and to report to the front desk for his new drivers license.

Next he started his route training. It took him a couple days to figure it out, but he got it down no problem, with that he was cleared from training and would start the route officially at the start of the next week.

Draco went home that night, finally able to relax some now that his studying and training was over. Or so he thought, but he had a rude awakening when he pulled into the driveway.

All of his belongings had been moved to the front yard, and Jakob was just moving out the last box.

The wolf strode over to Draco's car angrily as he stepped out. "Listen up 'Mr. Blaiz' " the wolf started as he pointed to the pile of things, "I want you gone, tonight. I don't want to see you again after tonight! And if any of your things are still here in the morning, they are going to the dump, understand?"

Draco understood completely, Jacob was pissy because he hadn't gotten any fuck time from him lately. It still hurt though, the two of them had been together for almost three years. Yes this was going to leave a scar.

Knowing that he would need help moving his things back to his Dad's old place, he called someone he hadn't spoken to for almost a year, then started moving the boxes into his car as the tears flowed freely down his face.
