A brief lesson about the history.

Ages ago, mankind and beastkin lived in peace with one another, kingdoms ruled by multiple kings. There were no threats at the horizon and life was filled with peace and laughter. Events spread across the stretched landscapes during all four seasons.

There were five kingdoms that ruled over the vast lands of Histoirea. Avarse was settled in the north and well known for the countless alchemists that roamed and sold their wares across the city streets. If there was urgent need for an antidote, Avarse was the place to be.

During the day this city was quiet, the market plaza sold your daily wares, but as soon as the sun went down it all changed. All kind of merchants came out of their hiding homes to sell potions, herbs, glass flasks with unknown liquids. The streets glowed in vibrant colors due the spilled magical liquids.

At every corner there was some sort of alchemist performing their wares to alter their environment, be it to give it new colors, a local weather storm or even a magical flower that grew out of nowhere.

At the exact opposite, the south, stood another kingdom called Varity. Varity was hidden well inside a majestic tree that had its tops high in the clouds. A large trunk was the basis of this kingdom that housed druids and clerics of all ages. These druids could perform miracles by merely touching a diseased beast or chanting magical words into the ears of a dying person.

The tree was strong and no storm nor earthquake was able to pull the roots of this kingdom loose. A staircase circling around the inner walls of the tree lead to higher grounds, small openings leading to outer branches that housed small houses and parks to meditate.

This kingdom knew peace and did not tolerate any kinds of violence, an all seeing deity that slept in the crown of the tree top was overseeing the city all the way down to the trunk base.

A kingdom of great power was located at the east, where swordsman sought greater goods in exchange for their power, kingdom Renza. Renza had an underground base where the coliseum was placed, warriors could challenge others or giant summoned beasts to win prices.

Gamblers were found there all day to bet on their favorite warriors while above grounds the more morally good warriors trained at training schools. Huntsmen were found in the local guilds to accept requests from citizen in need of dire help. Be it a simple fetch and bring to an all-out battle to the death, it was found in the local guilds.

At the west there was a more sinister kingdom, still living in peace yet, a dark aura lingered around the streets of kingdom Lorzaila. It was known that the weak should not enter the dark kingdom as mercenaries, assassins and mages were out for money on the streets. Accepting shady contracts to earn extra money while hiding their true identity in the deep and dark shadows. This kingdom had something magical, however, there was always music heard around the dark streets.

Soft notes of a sad violin or stronger sounds from accordions were heard as you'd set foot on the rough bricks of Lorzaila. This kingdom had no day and night as it was always hidden away in darkness, this creating the perfect environment for night stalking beast kin, yet this place was in for peace with the other kingdoms and tried their best to look appealing to all.

There was one more kingdom, located at the center of the world where the four different roads came together. The kingdom of Restoria, also known as the capital. The rulers of the kingdoms came together in this capital castle to discuss all affairs. Restoria was a kingdom built into one castle, everything was located safe behind a thick brick wall that was unable to be destroyed by simple magic.

It was also said to be able to levitate as an iron contraption underneath the foundation could lift up, creating a makeshift mountain to get an advantage in higher grounds. All kinds of people were found here, but none had a full citizenship in this kingdom, only the rich could reside here.

In the middle of this kingdom was a tower, that looked out to all four kingdoms, in this tower was a large book. This book was known as the Beastiary Codex, an artifact that sent magic down into the earth, granting every single being that lived on Histoirea magic. This magic was limited, however, because it was simply too powerful.

This book contained pages with written information about strong and mighty beasts and had enough pages to grant every person exactly one page. People were able to use their page as shape shift magic, transforming themself into a powerful beast to obtain greater powers, for a short period.

It was the Fifth day of the Vivitah moon when the grand king of Restoria had summoned the four kingdoms together for an alarming affair. It was then that the king declared a stop to the aid towards beastkin, they had violated the laws as they were able to stay in beast form way longer than any human could do. Despite the queen of kingdom Lorzaila being a beast kin herself, she had no choice but to agree with this.

Of course this new law would cause an abrupt stop between the trade routes between humans and beastkin, humans began feeling superior over the oppressed beastkin, who started to feel the pressure weigh down on them. Some started to form small groups, creating distraction to open trade routes to cause awareness, but most of these were punished in the progress of doing this.

The grand king started to pressure the kingdoms more, locking down all beastkin codex pages, making a halt to the magic that the beastkin could use. This also affected the queen of Lorzaila who started to become furious with the new laws of the grand king. She started how her kingdom began crumbling down, citizen left and even the deity began falling into an eternal slumber.

Meanwhile a greater group was being formed, beastkin who were done with the current ruler decided to fight against it, the Celtian resistance group was formed and ready to overthrow a kingdom. The Celtian group invaded the Restorian kingdom ready to fight, but the Grand king had caught air of this ages before the assault happened. He presented the resistance group with his own, the knights of the holy lance, who were able to use multiple Codex pages in advantage.

A fierce battle took place right in front of the castle gates, soon the Celtian group found out that the Holy lancers were way above their league. Slaughter followed as blood spilled rich over the Restorian grounds. The Grand king decided it was time to retract all magic back to his kingdom, closing the Beastiary Codex for all outer kingdoms. The roads were closed off while four cannons started to rise from the four watch towers.

The kingdom started to rise on the makeshift mountain, sheltering its citizen from the fierce battle below. The Grand king contacted the other four kingdoms, telling them their time of peace was over. Launching beams of magic towards the four kingdoms that made the protective barriers crumble. Citizen fled in fear while the knights tried to evacuate as much people as they could.

The kingdoms feeling betray while the once flowing magic had disappeared underneath their feet, unable to control their own codex pages. Reinforcement appeared for the Celtian group as the queen of Lorzaila joined the battle with her own knights. Piercing through the Restorian defenses to infiltrate the protected kingdom.

The Grand king and queen started to battle with anger in both eyes. The rest of the Celtian group started to raid the castle, destroying everything that was property of the vile king. Reaching the watch tower were the Beastiary codex was in place, without any doubts they locked the book and took it out of its pedestal.

The king felt how the magic inside his kingdom stopped flowing, roaring out in anger before disarming the queen, stabbing her in the heart. This had awoken even more anger, wild lunges towards the king were made but with no success. The Grand king had mages up his arsenal, protecting him and readying an all destructive spell.

A smaller group had taken the beastiary and knew a way to escape the rotten kingdom, the book sealed by one of the druids that had followed their leads. They sought refuge in a small village nearby. Deciding they had to hide the Beastiary codex so no one could ever access the magic inside.

A small empty church had its doors open, deciding to seal away the book in a stone pillar, making it unable to be retrieved without blood from both a beastkin and human. Leaving the small village to see how the Restorian kingdom grew a giant protective barrier around its walls, pushing out all those who did not belong.

Using his mages to send a message to the outer world, that if any other kingdom approached once more that he would destroy everything on this not so peaceful world, blocking communication with the outside world as the barrier slowly turned into a solid dark material.

The four kingdoms were shattered, its citizen fled in fear to smaller villages, a queen killed in the process. It took years for the kingdoms to recover but nothing was the same anymore, streets were empty and no music was heard. The secrets of the Beastiary codex were hidden away in the past, and those who knew about it remained silent for the rest of their lifetime.

The world had shattered in pieces, peace did return, but the horizon was dark. Constant fear of a new war was there and humans and beastkin were thorn apart from each other, blaming one another for the mistakes that had happened.

It was only recently that the Restorian kingdom restored contact with the outer world, the barrier had shattered but the gates were closed shut for outer folk. Only those who the king trust could enter, beastkin weren't allowed to come any near as the king had a forced law which allowed fire at will towards beastkin.

The king wanted his Beastiary codex back but was unable to gather any information, until a shady mistress visited the kingdom. She spoke of a future where Restoria would rule as the only kingdom standing. A colossal beast would start a chain of predicted events that caused the return of the Beastiary codex. All he had to do was form a trade route with the nearby village Hearthfort.

The king was hungry for his power and decided to sign a contract with this mysterious mistress, her white hood pulled over her head that only her smile was visible. Her hands and arms were covered with long gloves that held out a quill and paper, rolling up the signed contract before leaving again.

She would make contact with the king once more when the time was there.
