The day was hot, hotter then it had been for months. Nothing stirred in the heat. Water dried up fast, no clouds moved. In the shade it was even burning hot. Nothing moved, nothing made a sound; all except the one wolf laying but a fountain in the middle of a courtyard. He was laying in the shade, hoping a little bit of the water would splash out and land by him, but no such luck. He blew on his bangs, bored. His stomach growled with hunger and thirst. No breeze moved the branches above. No breeze would sooth the heat bearing on his back. Having thick fur didn't help. A crack sounded not too far away. He looked up, alerted. Laying his ears back, he stood fully, searching around the yard. Who dared to disturb him? He saw a shadow in the alley across from him, but it was so distorted that he couldn't make out who made it. Noise sounded again and a loud _crash _sounded from the alley. "I hate this...." His voice was deep and barely audible. Walking slowly to the alley, he past the fountain, looking at it longingly. He wanted a drink so bad. Water dripped slowly from the fountain's spikit, but he know if he tried to take a drink straight form the fountain, he would be in trouble.

_CRASH _

More noises came from the alley and the wolf walked faster to it, just to turn the corner and come face-to-face with his rival. "Dakota..." He growled, his hackles rose and he lowered his head in a glare.

"Rahmai." She spoke back, her voice was dark, but well-known as a girl voice. He wings spread and she flapped them, cooling herself off. "What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing. This is my territory, no thanks to being outcasted from your worthless pack." He growled, shaking his head slightly.

Dakota growled, leaping at him. She bowled him over and landed on top of Rahmai. "I'm here to find food. All the prey is gone because of the drought. " She snarled in his face. Spit and drool ran down her chin and landed on Rahmai's chest fur. Blinking, Rahmai smirked. "Oh hun, you wont find any here. It's all gone too. The last things are rats and mice, and even those are starting to leave." He shoved her off before shaking the spit off of him and started to walk away.

"What did you call me? Did you really call me 'hun'?" Dakota sat down, licking her shoulder.

"Yeah, so what?"

Dakota was behind him, nipping at his haunch. "Dont call me that."

Cyan blue fire flared in Rahmai's yellow eyes. "If you wish to live, dont nip me."
