A to Z challenge

So, I was in my Creative Writing class, and my teacher asked us to do a little exercise. The idea is you start your first sentence with an 'A', your second with a 'B' and so on until you get to 'Z.' It was... interesting to say the least, and in the end, it came out kinda furry. Oops. I hope no one in the class reads into that.

But to prove I've been writing SOMETHING, here's a short little thing for you.

Also, as an announcement, I have written a whole new chapter for the Club of Wolves! https://www.sofurry.com/view/677067 But I'm in the middle of it getting reviewed for the same Creative Writing class, so y'all will have to wait for it to be done with that first. But it's coming... I promise.

Any time I think I'm out of the woods, I'm really not. Because, you see, life doesn't really work that way, ending one conflict and moving on to the other. Conflict is constant. Down to the smallest insect's life, it is constant.

Everything blurred passed me as I ran, never stopping, never ending my mad dash for a finish line that didn't exist. Finish lines only happen when it's a fair race.

Gorgeous scenery flew past as I pumped my legs as fast as I could, trees that were greener then green, rivers that were clearer then clear. Had I not been running for my life, I was sure I could have appreciated it more but instead I was running, and running with all the strength I could muster to try and escape from the men; I was from with their guns, their dogs, their rules and laws and restrictions that would take a perfectly peaceful member of society and turn them into a raving lunatic, turn them into a fugitive that was wanted for illusionary crimes with no meaning at all; it was sickening to think about if you took the time to notice it for just a moment.

I gasped for breath, near the end of my ability to keep running, but determined to go a little longer. Just as I felt I could go no longer, I heard the sound of hounds baying behind me. Knowledge, as instinctive as breathing, about their position flooded me with fear. Layers of sounds, smells, and senses there are no words for told me that the hunters were closer then I had supposed. Manic fear gripped me again, and adrenalin gave me new legs, and I used them to their fullest. Nothing could stop me now, so great was my fear of the hunters. Only, the hunters could.

Pure terror struck me as new howls sounded ahead of me, to the left. Questions bombarded me as I corrected course: how had they gotten ahead of me and why give away their position now? Rapidly, I hoped to put more distance between me and the hunters after me. Sickening dread began to seep into my subconscious as the questions of the hunters tactics gnawed at me.

Then I nearly ran into the side of a cliff face.

Unable to comprehend how they had trapped me, I stood for a moment in absolute shock before I finally turned to face my foes. Viciously, I bared my fangs, braced my four legs against the ground defensively, raised my tail. Waiting, I finally saw the faces of the hunters, pale and furless humans peering from the bushes, only just keeping the dogs at bay I could smell surrounding me.

"Xander, I think we got 'em," one said.

"Yeah, fox inna box Zack."

Zack grinned, raised his rifle, and pulled the tirgger.
