Forest Hunter

#1 of Pre-made poems

Just an old work I had written a while ago. Decided to start adding some of my favorite works online.

The darkening trees, the scattered leaves,

The whispering wind all tell me you are there.

Each shadow seems to grasp, every root to bite

As the full moon watches this, All Hallow's Eve Night.

Your step, your form betray nothing of your wants,

But your glistening eyes give you away.

Watching, waiting, sizing me up,

But I will show no fear on this forest road.

The creaking of branches follows your passing,

Moving shadows dance on the floor.

Still I walk and still I wonder

Does the forest hide foe or friend?

Is it the wind that tears my cloak,

Or are those grasping claws?

Simple nothings spun from moonbeams,

Or the roughness of your paws?

And now I stop, caught up in thought

As you face me 'cross the forest glade.

One move only, right beside me

Fingers tangled in my hair.

Your hot breath, laden with your scent,

Pours across my upturned face.

As you slowly, ever closer,

Bend to let our tongues embrace.

Jolting upright, glancing sideways

Dew pours off my stiffened frame

As I 'waken from my slumber,

My head shaking at my dream.

Walking homeward, calmly stretching,

No forest watcher crossed my mind.

Yet there you lurked, knowing more-so

That dreams are, in fact, reality.
