#30 of An Anthro's Tale

14 year old Seth Allen is an aspiring Supercar builder in Winona Mississippi. Along with his friends, DJ, Josh, Jack and Tristan, they run one of the states most renowned performance shops, Draconian Customs. Seth and his friends have the lofty aspiration of seeing one of their cars on the 128 Miles Of Road America and it looks like the dream will come true when a team from Delton Motorsports commissions them for a 1967 Pontiac GTO Hardtop for the 128 mile endurance race. Then, invited to the Camaro versus Mustang Class R3 Rivals Shootout, they are invited to an event they never expected. The Dream Match Invitationals.

Acting on the gurgling in my stomach, I started for the congregation of food trucks. I raided the Domions one where I found Trent, Ross and Joe, all of who seemed to be waiting for orders.

"Hey guys", I said as I walked up, "anything going on?"

"Waiting for pizza", Trent said, "you?"

"Ordering pizza", I said.

The man inside the truck came to the window, "can I help you?"

"Get me a medium cheese, a macaroni pasta bowl and an order of cheese bread", I said.

"23.50", the man said.

I handed him the money and he disappeared into the back of the truck.

"Money burning a hole in your pocket?", Joe asked jokingly.

"Maybe a little", I laughed, "I can afford a Lamborghini Vino now, so when this is all over maybe I'll buy one."

Ross laughed, "I always wanted one of those. There cool looking."

"There expensive", Joe said, "4 million dollars for a fancy Gallardo. I'll stick with the Peregrine and the Toyota Supra."

"What Supra do you have?", Trent asked as the man brought us our orders.

"84 Celica", Joe said, "you?"

"92 GT", Trent said.

"What engine you got in it?", Joe asked.

"Stock", Trent said, "what little work is done on it I've done myself."

"My friend Susie has a V12 in hers", Joe said, "it's the biggest baddest best just, UGGHHHH, UGGHHH, car ever."

I laughed, "so it's a troll?"

"A big troll", Joe laughed biting into a slice of pizza, "by the way Ross, is my 92 ready for the next event?"

"Yeah", Ross said, "I got everything sorted out, but the ignition timing seems a little off. Tyler wanted to fix it before the race."

"Tell him just to restore the stock timing if it starts to look sketchy", Joe replied.

I sighed.

"Got a better idea Seth?", Ross asked.

"No", I replied, "I was just thinking about what missing this race will do to my score."

"You don't have a Supra?", Ross asked, "there's a place in the Garage where you can rent race cars."

"Really?", I asked.

"Yeah", Joe replied, "I was just over there and they had one #8 that was waiting for a renter."

"Then that's where were headed", I said, "come on Trent."

Trent and I grabbed our things and headed off towards the garage. When we got there, I could see that there was the brand new #8 Audi Sport R10. The car's body was done in silver and black, the interior was red and the car was boasting an amazing factory wing. It had a low, aggressive stance and was running a 7 speed paddle shift rear wheel drive transmission, their first ever. Truth be told, it looked more like a high dollar tuner car and nothing at all like a race car. Trent and I walked up to two people in suits behind a table.

"Excuse me", I said, "my race team doesn't currently have a car eligible for the Supra Vs Audi Street GT Runoff and I heard this car was available for rental."

"It's available for rent and for purchase with race credits as well", one of the men said.

"What are the prices?", I asked.

"It's 100,000 credits for a rental and four hundred fifty thousand to purchase as it is the new #8 model", the man said.

Trent whistled, "that's a chunk of change either way."

I had already made up my mind, "Trent, I said, do me a favor and go get my Dad."

Trent left and quickly came back with my Dad.

"What's going on Seth?", he asked.

"I'm gonna buy the new Audi", I said, "I have enough credits, but since I'm not old enough."

My Dad smiled, "gimme gimme gimme."

I handed my Dad the race card and soon the keys to my shiny new Audi were in my paw. I

"One down", I thought to myself, "seven to go."

Trent and I walked to the car and slid inside. It was somewhat...exhilarating, just sitting in the new TDI. The keys weren't even in the ignition yet and my heart was thumping. Maybe it's cause I knew this thousand crank horsepower monster was mine. And only mine. Once the race was over, I didn't have to share anymore.

"Let's go ahead and start it up", I said sticking the keys in the ignition, "cause everyone likes to hear it run."

I gave the key a turn. The 12 cylinder diesel beast roared to life and made everyone who was near by jump back a bit in surprise. I gave it a few revs before letting it settle into a 700 RPM idle and doing up the harness.

"This is better than my Supra by a long shot", Trent said.

"Nothing beats Supra", I said, "this car doesn't have stock All Wheel Drive like the new Supra does."

I put the car in gear and drove it over to the track. DJ and the others, minus my sister and mate, were hanging out in the pits, talking with Alex, who by my guess had just arrived. My new Audi turned their heads as I pulled up and slung open the scissor door.

"Seesh", Josh said, "talk about heavy rental."

"Or a big purchase", I said.

"You did not", Jack said.

"I did", I replied, "It's mine, mine, all mine."

DJ smiled at me, "are you gonna drive it in the race?"

"Nope", I said, "Alex is because, a, he's a pro and b, he's a pro."

"Driver's to your cars please", the intercom rang, "drivers to your cars."

"That's my cue", Alex said grabbing his helmet.

"Bring it back in one piece", I said.

"Will do", Alex said as he slid in.

He backed out of the pits and drove up to the starting line. The other cars that were there were the new Supra, two 09 R10 TDIs, two 1992 Supras and two 84 Supras and R10s. The race light went red, the cars began revving their engines. The light went yellow, the revving was loud enough now to drown out the shouting of everyone in the stands, but to me, everything seemed quiet as I watched my Audi sit at the starting line. It's low slung stance made it seem like it was ready to maul everything and everyone that got in it's way. Looking fast though, is one thing. It doesn't count for much if it can't actually go fast. The light when green. The rear wheels of my Audi began to spin in a burn out, along with six other cars while the new Supra shot right off the line and was already halfway to the first corner by the time the other cars were off the line, courtesy of All Wheel Drive.

Alex gunned my Audi after the Supra as it hit the first corner. The Supra's braking was negligible as it cleanly glided through the corner. Alex had a bit more trouble as he just barely missed going off track. Once clear of the corner, he chased the Supra down the straight, starting his braking for the next turn at warning marker three. As the Supra started braking at two, Alex turned the Audi into the corner and matted the accelerator, sending the car flying past the Supra and into the next turn, which led into a small straight away before a barrier of yellow and red painted tires formed the S turn that led to the small strip behind the pits.

I honestly was amazed at how easy the Audi, especially for being brand new and having literally 34 miles on it, was getting through the corners against the animal masquerading as a Supra. Alex went through the S turn in a near straight line before slowing slightly and downshifting to third to get through "Concrete Alley", as I'd heard some of the other racers call it. The two cars roared past the pits and were door to door through the next turn. The driver of the Supra backed off a little to avoid trading paint, but got right back in it when the track opened up. The Toyota trolled my Audi through the next two corners and down a small straight before turn six which would lead to one of the longer straights. Thanks to All Wheel Drive, the Supra shot clean past my Audi in the straight and was already accelerating through the next corner by the time Alex managed to catch up.

"All Wheel Drive sucks!", I said very much exasperated.

"When it's being used against you yeah", DJ said.

"Not helping me much!", I answered.

Alex managed to catch the Toyota in the first part of the S corner and overtake him in the second. The Audi accelerated out of the S and shifted to 5th gear as it shot down the straight away. The Supra, however, wasn't going without a fight. Even though Alex was in the lead, the Supra was going to catch him, 850 horsepower at all four wheels, while less, is still more formidable than 967 at the rear.

"Even with over 965 at the wheels the Supra is still going to catch him", I said.

"Remember Road America?", Jack asked, "Joe had three thousand horsepower and All Wheel Drive, and the Camaro had literally half the drivetrain of that mustang, but Alex still won. Don't lose faith just yet."

I sighed as I watched my Audi and the Supra near the final turn before the speedwell part of the Full Circuit. Alex slowed down and just barely cut the sand as he nailed the two corners and then was up in the speedwell, the Supra, on the other hand, was just beginning to brake for the turn into the speedwell. Alex literally put the pedal to the floor and the Audi shot off. Alex followed the gradual turn and let the elevation of the track narrow out his steering until he hit the straight for the finish line.

Alex's time for the first lap of the full circuit was 1:32.009, beating the 1:33.978 mark set by a GT500 Supra a couple of years ago. The new Supra matched the time of the GT500 at 1:33.978, witch kinda made me wonder if it was the same driver who set the record, or just someone who had practiced a lot.

"The new Audi just smashed the record set by Blue 60 in 2013", one of the announcers said as Alex started the second lap.

"He certainly did", the other commented, "but unfortunately for him, Blue 60's record is only considered beaten if the car used was a GT500 Supra, as Genius declared when it was set. So it's too bad for driver Alex West."

Alex's second lap was 1: 33.070 and the Supra placed at the same lap time as Blue 60, again. Lap three, Alex was 1:34.506 and the Supra again came very close to matching Blue 60 at 1:34 dead. When the race was over, Alex's average lap was 1:32 dead while the Supra averaged at 1:33.979.

"Team Draco places first", the announcers said, "Team Titan placed second and Team Falcon placed third. Drivers are advised to re tire, re brake and refuel their cars, the championship Full Circuit race will began momentarily."
