Mr. Freeze (HH)

Hello,

jockstrap boys and girls and everything in between, and welcome to the new chapter of the Hockey Hunk! It's been another week and a lot of writing (never as much as I'd hope, but there's something), and here's the latest instalment! Hope it amuses you, and I look forward to hearing your comments about the story! There'll be a new chapter next week, so before that, enjoy this, relax, and tell me what you think!

Cheers!

He was skating along near the edge of the rink, but there was still enough space for me to go past him, make a turn, and continue skating backwards with nice little rolling motions while facing the lynx.

"Hi there!" I grinned.

Haakon recognized me easy enough, and didn't miss a kick or a slide while I kept going backwards in front of him.

"Hello!"

"Long time no see!" I said cheerfully.

"Yeah," the lynx replied, "how are you man?"

I kicked myself forward and made another circle behind him before I settled into a rhythm next to him, my puck still kept along with me with little flicks of my stick. The lynx glanced to his side at me and smiled.

"Back to skating!" he said.

"Yeah!" I said. "Feels great! Like I'm flying!"

We weren't even doing anything like great speed, either, but the movement still felt so nice. So smooth, and like I was in control. Not struggling along on my two paws like I'd felt after the accident, sore, drugged up, and scared and relieved out of my mind.

"Cool!" he said.

Kids, heheh.

"My first time!" I told him. "Since I've been back!"

"Looks like you're doing good!"

"I am!" I smiled, as we came into the rounded end of the rink, and passed the family fun time where the mother had just fallen down to her ass when demonstrating how to brake speed.

"Good!"

He was doing a nice job keeping pace with me. He wore some loose pants and a blue sweater, and gloves, besides his mesh-free training helmet, no really need to be afraid if flying pucks here when we were just mucking around on skates and not trying to break the sound barrier with shots to the back of the net to score.

"Thank you," I said. "How is it going?"

Might as well strike up a conversation. Zapping around on my skates was big fun, but a big part of it was hanging out with the guys, having fun, chatting, messing around like guys do. This Haakon dude might've been a casual acquaintance, but that didn't stop me. He seemed to have a lot of fun spirit, from what I knew him, and from what Rory had spoken of his antics. Apparently he was no stranger to clubs and the like from what I heard. He didn't seem to mind hanging out with an older guy like me, either.

"Pretty good!" he said. "Busy!"

"Aren't we all," I said. "Work's been busy enough."

"Is that good?"

"Business is always good," I chuckled. "It means business, it means work."

"No...recession?" he asked.

"Hahah," I said, "even bankruptcy lawyers need to buy plenty of staplers and pens and paper and staplers."

"So..." he smirked, "you...a growth industry?"

I chuckled.

"Maybe we are!" I barked. "I didn't think about it like that!"

He was obviously smart, too. Maybe that wasn't a surprise, considering that he'd been flown to the other side of the world of study here. I suspected that it didn't take just cash, you needed some brains as well.

"Cool!"

Heheh. I kicked up the pace a notch, and he matched me, with a couple of extra kicks and swings of his arms to gain speed. Still nothing big, just taking it easy, having guy talk while we were skating and chewing fat.

"School going well?" I asked.

"Yeah!" he said.

"Still interests you?"

"Oh yes!"

"Good!" I smiled. "No point doing it if you're not!"

He was an easy-going guy, but didn't seem like the type to spend all of his college years just partying.

"Hahah, no!"

"Do you come here a lot?" I asked the classical question once we'd made another half a circle about the rink.

"About once a week, lately," he said, "my evenings have been really busy with stuff."

Like boyfriend wolf stuff, maybe, if I was to believe Rory's idea on the matter.

"Gotten to any games?"

"A couple weeks ago," he said. "It was pretty good. We played against West City Flag."

"Heh!" I approved of that. "They're a fun team to play!"

"Oh yeah!" he grinned, teeth and all. "It was good time."

"Would've loved to be there, if only to watch," I said. "MY doctor has told me not to play yet."

"Oh..."

"Yeah," I gave him a one-armed shrug, my other one being busy with the stick and the puck, "they don't want me to risk it."

"That sucks."

"Yeah, I guess they are right," I said, "but I can still skate! I've been cleared for it!"

"Awesome!" he said. "Looking good!"

"Thanks!" I smiled. It made me feel good to hear, even if it was such an off-paw compliment. He sure was one friendly guy, this Haakon. No wonder they said furs in Minnesota were super friendly. And they were Norwegian too, right, like this fellow right here!
