I Live to Serve - Prologue

, , , , , , ,

So, this is the beginning of a story idea I've had festering for a very long time. The character is one I have roleplayed for a few years now, and with the huge amount of character development I've put into her, I couldn't help but create a story about her. This story is for the most part inherently clean, but there is some implied graphical content. On top of that, there will be quite a few explicit chapters, but those will be tagged accordingly both in the title and the tags section as well. I haven't written an actual novel in years, so I might be a little rusty, but I hope somebody enjoys it!

Welcome one, welcome all, to the wonderful world of Pokemon! This universe truly is an amazing one, creating such fond memories in the hearts and minds of children and adults alike, every one of us wishing we could live in such a world, with Pokemon at our side. Most, of course, would love to be Pokemon trainers, battling with and caring for the creatures while traveling across vast and beautiful regions on some amazing journey, striving to be the very best we can be. Of course, such a world would have so much more to offer. In fact, in many ways, it would be very similar to ours, were such a perfect coexistence fully realized. There would be many other Pokemon-related professions, and plenty not-so. Doctors, school-teachers, plumbers... really anything is just as fair game.

Then of course, there are the Pokemon breeders. We've all heard about them. We've made every possible connection and joke at their expense, but this line of work could serve many purposes in our world. Surely.

Now, in such a world, humans and Pokemon alike would not be safe from disabilities. Some physical, and others mental.

This is a given, sure.

Fortunately, Pokemon are highly intelligent creatures, with the capacity to take care of humans almost as well (or in some cases, even better) than humans take care of them. If a Pokemon breeder were to specialize in breeding such Pokemon specifically to care for the disabled...

Do you see where I'm going with this? A seeing-eye Herdier, perhaps, or maybe a Gardevoir, to help care for and protect a child born a hemophiliac. Of course, there are many other possibilities. And, who's to say such a thing wouldn't exist? Well, of course it would. In fact, in the Sinnoh region, mountainous and cold, in a certain Solaceon town, there dwelt a laboratory specifically constructed for the breeding and fine-tuning of these Pokemon. All with good intentions, to be sure.

Here, several men and women worked in tandem to help create the perfect human companions, and nothing at the expense of the Pokemon themselves. They were kind, hard-working, and intelligent human beings. Day in and day out they tirelessly attempted to attain perfection, a Pokemon capable of being the ultimate caretaker and friend, and no limitations to species in the process. Dozens of Pokemon spent their lives in the laboratory breeding until they had passed a certain gene needed for this endeavor, always well cared for until their task was complete, before they were carefully sold away to a good home.

It is in the mix of all this, we will meet the lovely little Eevee, who goes by the name: Nanani.

The cycle was nearing completion, now. All subjects now had extensive communication abilities, even some sign language was taught to the more human-like Pokemon, and the psychics were capable of perfect grammar and speech patterns through their telepathy. Quadrupeds could stand and walk fully upright on their hinds for necessary situations, their bodies more shapely and fine-tuned. Those with paws found more dexterity in their fores, able to work more like thumbless hands, and firmly grasp objects with relative ease. And, some (though this was quickly resolved), had their abilities deeply suppressed. While most were simply unable to easily use the abilities most Pokemon of each individual species, this purpose was to remove potential hazards, such as the rough and volatile skin that certain Pokemon possess. A few could not use their abilities whatsoever. It was a small glitch in the program, but no scientific study could ever be perfect.

To Nanani, now. What is her situation, hm? Well, the little miss was born to a pair of Glaceon, just a few generations before the end of the entire experimental stage. In fact, she was to be the last of the Pokemon designed specifically for the breeding process. With her, fertility was ensured, and she was to develop into a perfect candidate for mothering the Pokemon that would showcase the success of this program.

Though, she never would get that chance. Just six weeks after she was born, the laboratory experienced a financial barrier, though this wasn't the first time. As was customary in such a situation, a few Pokemon would be plucked from the program and carefully sold to the highest bidder, though among a group of hand-picked people who could put the Pokemon's talents to use, while caring for them as they should be.

Nanani was, evidently, selected. And so begins our tale.

"Brr, it sure is cold!" The little Eevee exclaimed, slipping back underneath the blanket she had been provided.

Having been placed in a plastic tray, displayed alongside a few of the other Pokemon from the lab... boy, was all this very new to her. She had spent the first weeks of her life cuddled up to her mother in the comfort of their in-house, artificial den, all purposefully designed to emulate the real deal to a tee. She knew nothing different, of course, so sitting in an open container put upon a table with hundreds of varying human faces staring right at her... let's say it was a very new experience. Though she couldn't deny, it was somewhat exciting.

What they were saying, she couldn't quite make out, but none of that mattered. They all seemed to be admiring her, and were the air not so frigid (as she so boldly stated before), she would be doing all she could to look her best, with tail and head held high and proudly.

From beneath the comfort of her covering, she continued to scan the environment, until she heard an all too familiar calling.

"...Nanani! Our sole Eevee on display today, ladies and gentlemen. I know she will fetch a high price, especially with such a pedigree as this."

That man, he was very finely dressed, and he was talking about her! A little head popped out from underneath the blanket, curiosity getting the best of her, and her little ears were met with a collective "Aww..." from the audience of humans.

"The bidding will start a tad higher on this one, at 30,000¥"

Suddenly, the crowd was in a frenzy! People were standing up left and right, shouting numbers, each trying to one-up the other. Her curious eyes darted around at each and every one, though none of it made sense to her.

"120,000¥!" Came the voice of one man, just seconds before a larger woman sitting behind him shouted a number nearly twice as large. This went on for what seemed like several minutes. In no time at all, the largest thus far was nearly seven hundred thousand. In fact, many people who could not be kept in their seats previously had fallen silent, though a few more joined the fray.

Eight hundred... nine hundred... it was rising past a million now, until one man silenced the rest.

"One million, eight hundred and forty two thousand." He confidently stated.

Not another word. What exactly had he done? Nanani wondered with unabated curiosity.

"Sold to number forty seven!" The finely dressed man at the podium declared, beaming with obvious satisfaction.

With it came a light round of applause, a few crowd members with quite the perturbed expressions on their faces. The man who had shut them all up stepped forward, very anxious to receive the Pokemon he had purchased. And to her surprise, Nanani's container was suddenly lifted from the table. Hiding under the blanket once again, she could feel and hear plenty of stirring, rattling, and some barely muffled human conversation, along with the dimming resonance of the large crowd, before it all stopped. Bobbing up and down, side to side, albeit very gently. Now that things had gone quiet again, though, she wished to see where she was off to, and upon poking her head out yet again, her eyes were met with thin cage bars. Looking up, she saw, from the hand up, that man.

Dressed in a white button-down and brown slacks, his build was relatively thin, his head topped with an even thinner, light brown comb-over. Surely he had to be in his early to mid thirties. It was then that his head turned to look down at her. From there she saw he wore a pair of glasses, much like a few of the humans at the laboratory had. And on top of all that, he was smiling. It was a light, and very small smile, but it was pleasant nonetheless. So much so, she couldn't help but return the favor, giving a happy yip as she beamed back up at him, which easily made him chuckle.

A few more footsteps, and he came to a stop. They had arrived at his vehicle now, and with great care, her cage was placed in the back seat. The inside smelled only of leather and a nearly depleted artificial aroma of pine leaves, no doubt the after effect of the freshener hanging from the rear view mirror. Once he had settled in his own seat, they were quick to depart.

The journey felt like it lasted forever, and indeed, several hours did pass. The entire time, Nanani alternated between her childish restlessness and so dead tired, she fell asleep in an instant. However, as the light from outside vanished, and there was nothing to see out the window but a starry sky, to her surprise, she felt a hand slip into an opened cage door, and gently lift her up and out. Having been placed in the seat next to his, she only peered up at him with an intense curiosity. His attention, however, was firmly on the road. That is, until she caught his eye, and with another laugh, he finally spoke.

"What? Am I funny-looking to you or something?" His tone was surprisingly deep, but smooth at that. Almost soothing, even.

She only yipped at him again, though her face was still written with a quizzical expression. Goodness, she was too cute, though.

"Alright, come here, you." He said as he scooped her up in one hand again, moving her to his lap, his loose pants providing a much softer surface, one she couldn't pass up the opportunity to lie upon. All the while, her tail very lightly thumped against his thigh as she snuggled up.

Meanwhile, he continued to make use of his free hand, his fingers delicately scratching behind the little Eevee's ears, though his attention turned back to the dimly lit road. It wasn't much further.

Another half hour, and they had arrived, beckoned onto the property by the opening of an automatic gate. The car slowly crept onto the lengthy stone driveway, rolling down at a careful pace so as not to wake the sleeping pup in the driver's lap. Once it reached the end, the car was now greeted with the low hum of the garage door. As carefully as could be done, the man cradled her in his arms. The door from the garage led straight to the kitchen and dining area, stainless steel appliances and dark granite countertops meekly reflecting the single light he had procured with the flip of a switch.

Without waking her, he made his way from there, through the expansive living room, and down the first hall. Three doors to his left, and two to his right, all stained a deep brown, matching nicely with their alder finish. Into the last door on the left he went, before the hallway turned right, and met another entertainment space. In here it would appear to most as a small child's room. One three door dresser lined the wall to the right, and another taller, but thinner five door sat at the wall opposite the doorway. In the middle of the room resided a plush twin bed, plenty large for even a single human adult, complete with an ivory-colored headrest to match the icy blue color pattern on the lace-lined bed. Sheets made of silk and a thick comforter, the man even pondered resting in it himself, having experienced such a long day.

But no. He set the sleeping Nanani on the bed, and took to stroking her fur, her short, little breaths the only sound in the whole room.

Such an odd room. Was this really meant for her? How did he prepare for something without even knowing of its existence a day prior? In time, we may know. But for now, at least his intentions seem good.

For a few more moments, he sat and watched her sleep in silence, before creeping out of the room as quietly as possible.
