#10 of The Digi_Dead part 4

The group finally regrouped. They walked in a straight line right on the street. Exhaustion was breaking through. Luna asked, "How much longer do we have?" Kumamon panted out, "Six more miles." Luna looked down, "That's not what I meant." Veemon looked back seeing some walkers starting to linger behind them. Most of them were past it now. Just vessels that could end their lives and take them out of this misery and yet they all feared death. Scourge broke away to look in the forest. He was find a worm under the dirt pick it up and eat it. Kiff was holding onto Salamon as the group advanced.

Scourge sat there really thinking about how he treated Emily like a daughter yet his own son was so attached to Veemon. Still the focus was on Emily. She was gone now and he was dealing with it. Carrying on that pain. His face was still blank. He motioned forward coming back out of the forest some time ahead. As the group went further the more the walkers behind them clustered. The sun was beaming down. It's heat taking energy away as they lingered along.

They came up to a bridge. They lined up on each side and stopped as the walkers where large in number. They waited there to let the walkers catch up. They walkers split up trying to get some of them. They would slid out of the way causing the walker to fall below. Kumamon shook his head, this wasn't satisfying enough. He went up and stabbed one. Veemon said, "Don't break formation." Kumamon went forward letting out his rage for the loss of Bearmon. Kotemon stepped in and took out his katana to guard of the walkers coming at Kumamon who pushed and shoved his way ahead.

After they cleared the path Kotemon grabbed a hold of Kumamon's hand, "Don't be stupid. He was my best friend, yet I manage composure. Being stupid gets you killed. And I can tell you I'm not ready to die yet. You have to find a way to let it go elsewhere." After they crossed the bridge Scourge went back into the woods to take a smoke break. Guilmon was trying to provide what little water they had left to split it up. Yet no one took it. There were a group of cars ahead. Lena and some of the others started to check the cars. She found the key of a dead car and decided to open the trunk. Inside was a walker that had be bound and gagged. She backed up almost not ready to see a walker in this way. She got ready and couldn't quite finish it. She shut the trunk and looked down. She shook her head and took a few breaths. She tried to open it again but it was jammed. Guilmon came up and asked, "What's wrong." Lena backed up, "There was a walker...it was in there and I left it there. I should have taken care of it." Guilmon got to the trunk and went for it. He was able to pull a bit harder and managed to budge it open. He went in and stabbed it. Scourge came back and almost startled the others.

As they continued walking Starmon looked at Lena and said, "Whenever you need someone to talk too..." Lena gave him a stern look, "Don't...just don't. My family was religious and I don't want to hear that shit anymore. Just know you're not perfect anymore, no one is. God can't stop this, so there is no point in trying." As the group lingered on even further Scourge went for his third trip this time telling Fox he'd return. Fox had been drinking out a flask for a good chunk of the journey. Scourge looked up seeing a shed but he took a cigarette out and took off his glove lit the smoke and pressed it against his hand after inhaling some of it.

Suddenly they heard a loud crackling sound in the sky. They looked up to see it start raining. Starmon blinkered several times, "My god..." The others were so glad to feel the sensation of rain and to start to feel up on water. The rain was getting really heavy. The area flashed white and lighting struck not too long after. This was getting too intense. Scourge ran over. Scourge yelled, "Come on there is a barn over this way."

They followed him inside. The rain was so heavy. Lena looked around seeing a walker crawl toward her in this barn. She was able to go up to it and stab it in the head. Veemon and Scourge worked on making a controlled fire. They sat around as some of the others occupied further distance in the barn. Those who had lost recently like Kumamon and Lena were on the other side. Scourge, Guilmon and Kotemon were near Veemon. Veemon sighed. Kotemon shook his head, "Our group is slowly falling apart." Veemon looked into the depths of the flames and said, "Maybe that's the key to this...to barely hold on to anything. My dad...Flamedramon, he was a fighter in a war. When he went out he thought to himself that he was a dead man. Day after day that bleak outlook got to its lowest point yet everyone else had fallen...and he remained. But when he saw me, he cared again. So much so that he was taken away by a walker. He was blinded. So for now if we have that attitude then we will keep fighting onward. Until we make it to a place where we can hold them off we have to keep that mentality. We are the digi-dead." Scourge stood up, "We ain't dead." He walked away. Veemon put out the fire. The group rested up.

Lena looked up hearing a bang come from the door. She looked up seeing walker's hands slipping through the cracks. She ran up and held the door. Kumamon woke up and saw she was struggling and ran up to help her. Scourge too was one of the first to join in assisting hold the door back as the rain continued to fall and the lighting continued on as well. The others woke up hearing the struggle and joined them and now they all worked together to hold the door back.

In the morning the good was spread out again and asleep. Lena woke up first and was later joined by Kumamon. They went outside to see the trees had fell taking out the walkers. They went ahead to find a nice clear opening. Kumamon asked, "Why did you come out here?" Lena said, "Someone like Coronamon who joined us not too long ago. He's not ready for what's ahead. At first I thought I was...but lately it seems like this is wrong. Anyone at any time can fall. Guilmon had to practically carry me to this point. From whose left us we've been shattered into such a tight group. Even losing one of us is just so...crazy." Kumamon looked down, "Love wasn't able to push us forward...you...I mean we both fear of losing the ones we love the most. We creatures can't even maintain who we love sometimes. Even then it still hurts." A voice called out, "Excuse me." They both took out their guns and aimed seeing a clean creature come out of the forest. Kumamon yelled, "Hands up." The creature put his hands up. Kumamon yelled, "Who are you!?" He got on his knees. The creature said, "I'm Lucario, I'm looking for Veemon." Kumamon and Lena looked at each other and looked back to this clean creature.
