Commission for Kaoru over on FA.

Also his name wasn't intended to be Gary originally, but when showing Kaoru an update, for some reason I called the fellow in the story Gary. Thus he was born anew!

Shivering and huddling in a corner, a single man could barely be seen in the darkness of a small room. The chamber held the warmth and appeal of a garage, complete with a lack of amenities for comfort or self amusement. Despite all this the male figure lacked consciousness, yet clearly not from his own accord. He breathed heavily and slowly, as if finding himself deep in sleep while unable to gain the restful benefits of such.

"Gary. Wake up, you've been asleep long enough," a soft, old sounding male voice whispered into the young man's mind.

Slight shuffling was all the man gave up in response. He appeared weakened, or at least exhausted, as if he had recently completed a rigorous physical workout. Groaning seemed to be about the only thing he offered up in his tired state, but that most clearly was not good enough. Lights began to spark with life, one by one, along the edges of the room's ceiling.

"Gary, it's time for you to awaken. You have a new life awaiting you," the voice once more spoken monotone.

Despite the voice having a lack of energy to it, the words quickly woke Gary from his sleep. His back stiffened and sat straight up in an instant. The room appeared dark to him for just a few moments, after which the lights shone with great intensity, nearly blinding, as though the purpose were to disorient. Mumbling incoherently, words failed to form from his mouth, as his tongue felt numb to feeling.

After a few moments of allowing his eyes to adjust to the brighter levels of light, the confused individual managed to get a good look at the room around. Everything appeared as entirely listless and devoid of characterization or form. Despite there being small floodlights illuminating the room, the gray rubber floor and walls seemed to suck out any ambient brightness. All of the lights focused on his own body, as though he were on a stage about to perform for all the world.

Unlike a platform to show off for others, Gary thought himself to be trapped a dungeon-like cellar or some sort of basement. Wrapping his arms around his body, it wasn't until now that he looked down at himself. His thin and wiry body revealed itself in full, being nearly completely naked, save for a pair of baggy jeans that he always wore. It now came as no surprise to him why he might be so cold, as he curled up his legs to try and warm his chilled feet.

"You're finally regaining consciousness. Your immune system should be shut down, and body completely sterilized. We can continue the process."

Gary simply stared up into the air, unable to discern just where he heard the voice coming from. There didn't appear to be any speakers, yet it didn't sound organic enough for him to believe there could be anyone standing with him in the room. Just as his mouth opened to begin attempting to speak once again, a sudden jolt followed by a sudden spike in temperature spread from the back of his left shoulder.

Reaching back, his fingers gently brushed against a frigid metal apparatus. It seemed to be a thick and long cylinder, and once he made himself aware of its presence, it's weight could be felt tugging at his flesh. Not only that, but a liquid was very clearly being pumped in vast quantities, moderated by what felt to be a thick and long needle which had itself lodged deep within his muscle tissue. His eyes widened, and a gut-wrenching sensation spread from the pit of his stomach, as fear and uncertainty gripped the mind.

Tugging at the frighteningly large object, he tried to dislodge it in an irrational move. Perhaps luckily for him, even if it didn't feel like it at the time in his perspective, there were two thick clamps ensuring the object couldn't be jostled so easily. Twisting his torso to try and get a better look, it hid itself in the blind spot at the back of his vision. What he instead found was a long tube that seemed to be connected to it, thick and imposing, which likely pumped the liquid into his body. His focus shifted to tugging at that, trying with all his might to tear it away, but it only resulted in him falling upon his side.

"I should say you needn't be so afraid, but perhaps it is warranted. After all it might be the last time you feel such an emotion."

Gary couldn't make out what the voice could have meant, and as such quickly filtered it out of his mind, especially since something distracted and caught his attention. A myriad of wires and tubes, crisscrossing across the floor, all seemed to be coming from him. Rolling onto his back he suddenly noticed pressure going down along his spine.

"No, no this..., this can't be happening...," for the first time, Gary managed to speak in a low and rasped tone indicating both dryness of the mouth and simple exhaustion.

Despite disbelief towards at the current situation, his body began to stiffen up. Every muscle in his body contracted, as if harboring a great force, and it soon felt as if he had run a marathon. Panting heavily, his eyes rolled to the side as sweat beaded across his brow. Spasms took place here and there, seemingly at random, along his extremities, making it feel to him as though his blood began to curdle.

"Good, we've finally made progress with you, Gary. We're finally ready to proceed with stage two, after so many days of waiting."

At this point Gary's mind felt foggy as he tried to recall the past week or so, as the words struck him hard. No matter how hard he tried to think the less he seemed to actually remember, as if some chemical process in his brain had begun to break down. The warmth coming from his chest rose suddenly, but despite such, he never felt more cold. It was as if the floor began to sap away all of his body warmth.

The floor, in general, actually felt to Gary as if it was losing a lot of its distinct feeling. It was being replaced with a slight itchy sensation, similar to that of a rash beginning to form. He tried to lift an arm, but suddenly it felt as though gravity had increased tenfold. Literally all muscle strength had dissipated after the last spasm, and he was left there gasping for breath.

"Why? Why are you..., doing this...," it took all effort for Gary to mutter those words, as he struggled just to keep his eyes open.

"It's something you've always wanted, of course. From when you were young, and filled to the brim with wild fantasies, while carrying it forth into adulthood and sharing it amongst friends. Your deepest desires are about to be realized; see now, it's finally beginning, " A light chuckle trailed with the mysterious voice's words.

Just after such, a sharp and sudden crack echoed in the room. Gary's eyes went wide, and his spine arced upward. His fingers twitched slightly, as though his body was able to directly parse just what took place, but it happened again; his bones shifted in place, sending deep vibrations to ripple through the rest of his flesh. After that it radiated outward, spreading to other portions of his body, like some sort of plague as his joints popped out and back into place.

In the same fashion that the man's back bent as if it had a will of its own, so too did his arms and legs. The arms in truth didn't effect him all too much, as they seemed to be mostly spared of what ever scheme was unfolding beneath his skin and away from his sight, but it was at his legs that he noticed the most drastic shifting. They seemed to crinkle like plastic, contorting upon themselves, while twisting suddenly in ways that shouldn't be possible.

"Ah, your body is so eager for the change. The main framework of your skeletal structure just isn't sufficient enough. It simply wouldn't be able to support you."

As if taking an audio queue Gary felt feet beginning to stretch. Either that or the voice simply knew what was to take place next, for perhaps it had been a plan in process for a very long time. His ankles warped, and the rest of his feet began to stretch. It felt to him as though the bone had melted down into a primordial putty, being worked and shaped by a pair of invisible hands, all without him having a say in the matter.

Gary couldn't tell whether or not the sensations shooting up his spine were trying to relay pain or not. His hands tried to grasp onto something, anything, as the fingers scraped uselessly against the smooth floor. The toes moved similarly, to which he felt a certain surprise and disconnect with his own body; his toes felt longer, and his entire foot elongated and threw him completely off balance to what he had grown up knowing. Certain sensations in the back of his mind made him to believe that the new feeling in his feet felt better than the previous form. It scared him.

While that took place the skin along his back and four appendages began to feel ever more chilled. Despite that, just beneath the surface, he felt a liquid warmth surge forth. At that point forward, his skin began to harden and condense upon itself. The cold-sweat that covered his body slowly dissipated, and the sensations changed dramatically. His skin didn't feel quite as receptive, yet in a way, it actually felt better. Little ridges formed in patterns across every inch that began to change. Soon after that his skin felt oddly tight, like a form-fitting rubber suit was being draped across himself.

"A very telling change is about to take place upon your body, Gary. One that will protect you better than your old skin ever could."

Trying with all his might, Gary began attempting to move his limbs despite them feeling like limp noodles. His right arm began shaking as he focused all his mental willpower into lifting it up, just for him to look at for a brief couple of seconds. There with his own eyes he saw glistening scales forming to replace his skin. It created an otherworldly gradient between his normal peachy complexion to a red hue. His fingers appeared to be stretching right in front of his face, with his nails becoming claws as they were seen widening into a circular form and becoming black in color. Shaken by the sight of such, not yet being mentally prepared to see such a thing, his arm dropped.

"It is just as I said. Your deepest desires, and our own, being realized: creating a dragon out of a living human being," The voice gained a certain jubilance, finally breaking away from the emotionless demeanor. Gary began to groan, not knowing whether to rejoice or cry out in fear, as the ultimate scheme had finally been revealed. Despite his clashing emotions, he just lay there for the time being, breathing slowly and heavily, as if a new serum had been added as a sedative. The spasms did slow, which allowed him to close his eyes, but this opened a whole new slew of information to flow into his brain. Every little change taking place could now be felt with the utmost of clarity.

Toes upon the feet began to shift, spreading and differentiating themselves from what one would expect to see on a human. They grew longer, arched upwards, and broadened in order to better support a different frame. Both of his feet raised up slightly, twitching with a certain life, heralding in the final touches which simultaneously took form. Large talons unfurled from his once needless toenails, changing into a black coloration similar to the claws he saw on his hand. During that time the large toes dislodged from their normal spots on the feet, somehow, shifting upwards as the bones stretched. They eventually came to a rest several inches from where they once were, meeting up at the heel.

A rumbling sensation rolled upwards from the lower sections of legs, as if indicating the feet to be complete and the process ready to spread. The calves began surging with a newfound strength, and it soon transferred to all the other muscles below his waistline. They grew significantly, yet leisurely, as if his body defied all notion that any part of this could be bad. His pants became tighter and tighter, accentuating the form his legs took with each passing second.

"Feel, now, how your legs are suited for running kilometers at speeds greater than you could ever gain before. To think, it has just begun."

None of the sensations ended where they started, much to the premonitions of the voice, as a low rumble rippled suddenly through his torso. Flesh twisted in great upheaval, as the transformative process began to peak. Every single one of his muscles spasmed up his body, in a great wave, as they separated themselves from bone and sinew disconnected in preparation for the coming changes. Even the beating heart seemed to slow, despite the powerful experience, as even it quickly succumbed to changes taking place.

All the while, scales constantly ruptured forth from beneath the skin, as though consuming the old outer shell of the human to make way for something much more tough. Gary managed to tilt his head for a brief moment, noticing that the scales upon his belly appeared as a dark yellow, opposed to the brilliant red that could be found elsewhere. Despite the bulking of his muscularity, his body retained a sleek form. He shined brilliantly, at least where the skin had been fully replaced, similar to a snake which had just shed its old skin.

A powerful jolt originating from Gary's back set his head reeling back, and his eyes to open wide. Staring over at the bright lights, he couldn't begin to comprehend the sensations taking place. All he knew was that the muscles of his upper back curdled with horrendous ferocity. It was then he could feel the bones distending with some form of growth, which prodded from within, as though begging to be released. An eerie silence befell the room, he being unable to hear even his own breathing or heartbeat.

The wet and sloppy sounds of open flesh rang through the air as two distinct nubs finally found their way out of the area around his scapula bones, or at least what he once recognized as such. Two extra appendages somehow forced themselves through the skin-turning-scales of his backside. They were bare and raw, as if knowing they weren't meant to be there, yet they continued to stretch with unrelenting vigor.

When it came to the point new appendages poked against the cold surface of the floor, it caused Gary to grit his teeth and suddenly flail with surprise. They came through as extremely sensitive, as though bare bone and nerve endings had touched against an icy surface. He flailed and jerked against the binding tubes against his back. Unlike before, he managed to stretch and pull them to his whim, showcasing a new strength being gained. Yet each movement came at a harsh price of being exponentially more taxing than the last. He came to lay flat on his belly upon the floor, his face to the side, panting.

"Such splendor we are soon able to witness! The pride of dragons through myth spanning the ages is about to unfurl for you, young man. Even I feel a little envious."

Before Gary could even question just what they might be, the answer had been slapped right across his face: wings. Those new appendages he began to grow were something that humanity had longed to gain since the dawn of time, and they were soon to be his. No matter how scared and confused he might be, emotions foreign to him flooded his mind. Just like the voice stated, it was that of pride, but at a strength he couldn't recognize. He began thirsting for more, unable to feel any measurable amount of patience.

Tickling and tingling sensations sparked just beneath the growing bones, as webbing grew out along and underneath the fledgling wings. Amazingly, somehow, it actually felt rather pleasurable. Even though he could feel the wing bones snapping sharply, forming the bends of the wing-arms, he couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of freedom coming from the new additions to his body. And they weren't even complete! Muscles spasmed at the base of the wings, unconsciously trying to flap them just to feel what it may be like.

His anxious nature grew at a rate steady and equivalent to the forming of the wings. As bones branched off and downwards, flesh quickly surrounded it, molding and securing it in place. It felt similar to when one finally managed to unbind their fingers from a Chinese Finger Trap; gaining circulation in what would be considered fingers for the anatomy of a wing. They twitched in the open air uncontrollably, as if with a mind of their own, as the new appendages came to life. Leathery webbing slowly spread across the elongated finger-like protrusions of the wing-arm to cement its form.

"As complete as you might feel, there's still much work to be done. I think you could do with a bit more fitting of a complexion, don't you think?"

Gary lay there, breathing slowly, and for the first time possessed a rather wide smile. Something about gaining those wings created a foggy glow of happiness, not too dissimilar to what one feels when feeling a strong alcoholic buzz. His mind drowned out the question posed by the mysterious voice, automatically tuning it out as rhetorical.

It only took a few more seconds for him to begin wincing again though, as the bones in his lower jaw cracked and widened. It was as though someone punched him with all their might, yet it remained surreal as ever due to a lack of any actual pain. Grunting ever so slightly, he lay his head down on its side, as the mouth forced itself to stay open. He lost all movement and mouth control shortly after, as a new change took hold. Slowly, yet surely, his face began to extend outwards as scales crept around the sides of his head.

This part of the transformation hit Gary stronger than anything else felt previously. Even the most miniscule of crunching and stretching of the bones could be felt, and especially heard, in great detail. His jubilance faded as reality struck, quite literally, at his face. Every so often he opened his eyes, as if struggling to regain control of his facial muscles, yet every time he did so he saw the room in a different light. The eyes morphed, and with it, his sense of sight changed. Lighting suddenly looked different, and details that he hadn't noticed in the room became readily more apparent. It was almost nauseating, as if his sense of balance was being changed right along with such.

Feeling his teeth begin to shift was by far the worst of all the sensations that had thus taken place. It was almost like his wisdom teeth coming in anew, but escalated, as the very structure of his teeth became angular and befitting for that of a predatorial maw. His tongue thinned out and pointed itself, taking a serpentine shape. He couldn't help himself from drooling as his mouth quivered as it too stretched inch after inch. Even after everything that had taken place in this day, nothing quite compared to being able to physically watch his face push out in front of his very eyes.

A fresh, scale-covered face was all Gary could stare at. It obscured his vision, creating new blind spots, yet at the same time his eye sockets tilted towards different angles. He gained more sights than he lost, but he still couldn't pull his vision away from the muzzle. For a brief moment he huffed not through his mouth, but snorted through the nose, and watched as newly formed nostrils flared. Shivering, he felt the brand new sensation of air traveling several inches further than previously required. He could even hear how different the stream of air sounded, as the wider and longer nasal canal hummed with a deeper bass.

While Gary tried to raise a hand to brush against the side of his muzzle, the scales being tapped weakly by the claws of his fingers, his head began to feel ever more heavy. Horns protruded after the shape of skull finally settled; the extended bone-like material spiraling and twisting upon itself to create a unique and identifiable feature upon the nearly completed new body. As if to compensate, his neck stretched itself out just a couple extra inches, further differentiating his previous human body to the new draconic appearance.

From between those horns, however, there came something extra. The human hair never actually degenerated or fell from the body, unlike what happened at every other location upon his form. Instead it instead grew thicker and longer, while at the same time extending down the back and between the wings. Not only did it grow, but new follicles sprouted out from beneath the scales, all the way down his body. Each and every one could be sensed as a little tickling sensation. At the same time it led Gary's attention to a very critical asset he happened to be missing, or in the very least, was previously missing for at least a few more minutes.

"Something special about the human body is that we all possess a tail, or at least, the remnants of such when we were first developing from within the womb. Evolution robbed us of such, but you shall regain what was once stolen from you."

Just as the mane of fur reached just above his posterior, Gary felt and heard a loud series of snapping bones. Much more than any other point in the ordeal, the noise sent shivers up his spine. He knew a tail was about to sprout out from beneath the mishmash of scales and skin, but that still didn't prepare him all the better for the feeling.

Despite the shocking sensations of Gary's tailbone elongating itself into an actual appendage, in a way, it felt more akin to how one would stretch their back in the morning to work the kinks out; it poking through a hole his pants he hadn't realized was there until now. The previously spoken words from the voice did happen to be true in that all humans had a tail at some point in their formation, and as it happened to be, his body seemed very appreciative that it got to stretch out something which had been forsaken over twenty years ago. Before the nerves could even settle themselves upon the stretched bones, he managed to give it a little wiggle similar to that of a dog to express the happiness his morphed mind experienced.

Lowering his back and stretching out his neck, the nearly complete dragon slacked his jaws despite regaining most of its control back. A low and feral moan rolled from his lips with a spare bit of dribble, as the tail spiraled out from the bottom of his torso. He felt his balance shifting with every inch of flesh that grew around the bones, furthered by its ever increasing length. It pulled at the rest of his body, forcing him to kneel up with his head thrown back in the air. The combination of that appendage making itself present, and the mane that continued to sprout upon the top, was a nearly titillating indulgence.

All it took was a few more seconds for the tail to finally twitch itself out into its full glory. Gary waved it through the air above him as if attempting to defy gravity, albeit with several spastic twitches as he hadn't quite grasped how to fully control it. He could feel a large floof of fur puffing itself out at the very tip of the tail, almost like a firework heralding in the end of a play's act. At the same time it beckoned forth the next portion of the experiment. The dragon's body seized up from head to toe, wings spread wide, and tail poking out straight and back. Grumbling and clenching his eyes, a raspy growl escaped between the sharpened teeth.

"The final preparations are within grasp. Just a few more moments, and..," As if enamored with the sight, the voice trailed off. Perhaps the person speaking, obviously observing this entire time, couldn't believe what he was watching.

By this point, however, Gary knew exactly what was taking place. He experienced similar sensations through the entire transformation after all, and it felt like this might be the last time. Every single muscle in his body felt like it devolved into a form of liquid, as he recognized them moving. A low grumbling of shifting flesh could even be heard, even over his draconic grumbling, as the muscle reformatted itself. All the bones could finally be settled upon, joints may stay connected, and nerves able to spring to full life. Tendons snapped and tugged themselves taut like strings on a guitar, and blood flowed into every crevice of his body. Once it ended, he let out one final huff and fell flat.

"... And it is complete."

Like being controlled by the strings of a marionette, Gary felt himself being tugged upwards by some invisible force. Chemicals, foreign to his body, worked to tense muscles against his will and raise him upon his feet. Not a single fiber of his being felt any less than completely exhausted. Yet the body didn't react upon such, unlike how his human form might have. He wobbled, clumsily, with shaking legs to stand upright.

"From this point on, you shall live much more free a life. Devoid of having to wear barely anything in the way of clothing, and a body naturally able to resist the elements."

Gary had nearly forgotten he had nothing but jean pants upon his body. It had been clear and evident to him before, remembering the deathly chill prior to the change, but it was nowhere to be found as of now. Focusing on that fact, he felt a swirl of warmth ball itself up somewhere in the pit of his chest, the feeling of such putting a dreamy and wanting expression over his scaly lips. The next breath out carried with it that same heat along with the addition of some wisps of smoke to curl up into the air.

Seeing such made Gary remember that there had to be ventilation for him to breath, in the otherwise seemingly air-tight room. Looking around, the lights didn't appear nearly as bright as they once had, despite him sensing the intensity being the same. His pupils, now more reptilian than human, contracted in a manner far superior to that of a human's. Finally, without the glare of light, he saw a glass on one of the walls in the room. There he could see the rough silhouette of several people standing and observing.

"But, for now, you must rest. There are still preparations which need to be made before you can once breath the air of the outside world. Tests are needed, calculations tested, and most important of all, you must be observed at all times."

The words meant nothing to Gary. He drowned out all of the words and his mind translated it all to a meaning of freedom. Taking a step forward, he nearly stumbled, as the slightly different shape of his leg fought against his previously known method for walking. It didn't deter him, as he took another step forward, wobbling heavily. His tail twitched this way and that, making sure he didn't lose balance, as his wings flicked like traffic signals in the off chance they needed to catch some air to soften a fall. The new digitigrade feet felt foreign and squishy, still being raw from the traumatic change, yet it felt great to feel the balls of the feet squishing upon the ground in a whole new fashion.

Gary felt a tug at his back, to which he craned his longer neck to look back at. Now, better than ever, he could see the myriad of wires and tubes connecting to his back, stretching to the walls, where machines lay hidden. Despite acting as a tether to bind him in place, he realized they may very well be for life support and monitoring equipment. Just like that it dawned on him: he was not safe, or at least, not to the other humans. Lurching forward, he pulled upon the tubes with great might.

"See, look at his strength. Barely even a couple minutes into his new form, the dragon can walk and express dominance over his domain. Those bare paws of his shall feel the soil of the Earth in ways our bound feet cannot. Project Dragon shall be a success!"

Ignoring the words once more, the red dragon continued pulling at the foreign objects connected to him with extreme prejudice. He wanted nothing more than to get to that wide and tall glass and bang upon it. Problem being, he didn't know whether he felt anger, fear, or joy towards those on the other side. The more he thought about it the more he had a rush of different emotions fogging his brain. Closing his eyes, and with all the will he could compose, he forced the clumsy legs to push forth.

Screeches of pressurized air escaped from a tube, and Gary felt a rush of warm liquid pour down his back. Another snap was heard, and he felt the his scales tugged slightly as needles parted way with the torso. One by one, he felt the objects leave his backside. Tears welled up under his eyes; a body function that tied him to his humanity, and it being likely the only thing which might. Something about the liquid from inside those tubes kept him going, and without them, he felt consciousness slipping away.

"Sleep well, noble dragon. Even you still need rest."

Gary smacked harshly against the glass, as his scales took the blow better than his skin may have, protecting from bruising and rupturing. A slight crinkling could be heard at the base of his chest, and cracks in the glass radiating out from such. Heaving, and reaching up with his hands, he attempted to find hold upon something-- anything. Clambering about like a lizard losing its grasp on the side of a wall, he fell down in a slump on the floor. A slight puff of fire flicked its way past his tongue and into the open air, as if a feral instinct tried to help him reach his goal. Today he couldn't reach freedom, but perhaps tomorrow he thought, he shall feel the wind carry his wings to new horizons. Just before losing consciousness, the sounds of metal locks upon a door echoed in the room rung in his ears.
