One Shot

Okay just relax; it's not the end of the world...yet. She'll be here in a little bit. God am I really going to do this? What time is it...3:48. Her class gets over in a few more minutes. Just take it easy, you've rehearsed this. So what if she says no, it's just a no.

I fumble with my hands trying to pass time by waging war with my fingers. Doing anything to distract myself from the swelling tension in my stomach. I adjust my hair again, trying to look good. I get a few strange looks from people; it's probably odd seeing me care about my appearance. I know I rarely combed it, but it can't be that strange. I wish people would stop looking my way, it's hard enough without others starring.

I try to sit on my hands to pass the time. I look back to the clock, 3:49. God damn it, why'd it have to be so slow. Nervously I start tapping my foot before standing and walking towards the campus restroom. Once inside I check to see if anyone is inside before heading over to the counter.

I gaze into the mirror and see myself. My scruffy unkempt dark brown hair sticking up in just one spot, refusing to stay down no matter how many times I combed it. My best casual attire, a plan black t-shirt with nothing on it, and some navy blue jeans. The thought brought shame to my cheeks, turning them a bright red. Being a college student I couldn't afford much and had to cut back somewhere, I just made the unfortunate decision of choosing my wardrobe. A Choice I was now regretting. At least I had my eyes, they weren't much, but I was often complemented for them. My pupils being a deep hazel, with a band of gold around the center, giving them a marble like appearance. Taking a towel I wet it and wipe my face. I got this, just be confident.

Leaving the restroom I head back into the café, located on campus. Taking a seat at my table and looking back at the clock, displaying 3:54. I searched for her, but didn't see her yet. She'd be here soon, she had to be. It was going to be my last chance of the week...probably my life. I talked myself up so much, I don't think I could do it again. I slump back into my chair a little bit when she walks in.

Her emerald eyes are the first thing to captivate me. Then the soft features of her feline muzzle. Her creamy beige fur spotted with dark brown patches that showed of her curves. Blue jean straining to hang on as the lining seems ready to burst. A fine black and white peppered coat is slowly peeled off due to the heat, revealing a thin white tank top below.

Of course she comes in to see me slacking off. I get up to a bit clumsily, waving "Hey Kitty." She smiles and starts heading over to when a friend pulls her to the side. She looks unsure of herself as I get a horrible knot in my belly. I gulp and try to fight back the feeling as I simply nod reassuringly it was okay to hang out with her friends.

"I won't be long, I promise," she called out.

I sat down trying to hold up the fake smile best I could before put my hand through my hair. My heart was pounding. It's okay, this is normal...4:05 it was still another five minutes before she'd have to catch the bus. 4:08, she'd be coming any minute now. 4:10 there she was walking out the door. I watched on as she got up to leave. Chatting with her friend as she went for the door.

Thump, I felt my skin turn to ice. Thump, I felt my skin crawl as she pushed the door open. Thump, I felt my heart begin to break. Thump, I felt my feet touch the floor. Thump, I sprinted towards the door. Thump, I rounded the corner trying to catch her.

I shouted, "Wait."

Thump, she stopped and stared at me.

"What's up?" I jogged up to her, trying to act casual.

"I wanted to talk to you before you left." She nodded to her friend telling her she'd catch up.

"What about?" I reached for her paw, grasping it.

"Not here." I pulled her along back inside to the near empty café offering her a seat. She sat down giving me a confused look.

"What's this about? Is something wrong?" I pulled at my face trying to calm myself.

"No, I just wanted to talk."

"Okay? What about, I have to hurry I can't miss the bus."

"Ummm, well. I ugh," here goes...everything, "I've gotten to know you over the past couple of days. And..." I managed to look up long enough to see her muzzle light up.

"Yeah?" she said with innocents to her voice.

"And I'd like to get to know you better...like a date."

"Absolutely!"

"Really?"

"Yeah, I have to go now, how about"

"Saturday!" I blurted, "I'll pick you up Saturday." She giggled at me.

"Do you even know where I live?" I shook my head no as she reached down and pulled out a piece of paper. She wrote down her address as well as her number. She tore the page and handed it to me. She went to put it away when I reach out for it.

"Can I use that for a second." She nodded as I filled out my information as well giving it to her. She took it shyly before leaving.

Without looking back she whimsy said, "See you Saturday." I just about chocked. I watched her leave and once she was out of site I threw my fist in the air. Yes, I did it. I got a date Saturday...ah crap, what am I even going to do?!?
