#4 of A Forlorn Love

In this chapter Jessy thinks he's going out to another date night like he did last week, but little does he know that Brittany has other plans for him.

Chapter 4: Unexpected Plans

After putting on my finest smelling cologne and nicest clothes I went to meet Brittany at the mall just as I had done before. In my quest to make myself as presentable and good smelling as I possibly could, I failed to notice what time it was, 6:15 pm. I was supposed to meet her at 7 and the mall was two miles away! That's a long ways to go for a guy like me. I don't have a car and can't afford to be taking a cab everywhere I go. So that only left me with one option and that was to run as fast as I could to try and make it on time. I knew I wouldn't make it on time so I sent her a text stating that I was on my way but would be late. She replied and said that would fine and just meet her in front of the theatre again. I didn't know what she had planned for the evening and I didn't really care as long as I got to be with her.

I arrived at around 7:15 pm and met her in front of the movies near the entrance.

"Sorry I'm late, Baby."

"That's alright, Cutie. You're here now and that's what matters."

We gave each other a greeting of hugs and kisses as we stared into each other's eyes.

"Well, shall we go inside?" I turned gesturing towards the entrance doors, smiling.

"Sweetie, I'm afraid a movie isn't quite what I have planned for us tonight." She said, brushing my face with her paw.

"Oh? OK. Um... What would like to do then?"

"Remember last week when you had me close my eyes and took me to the fair as a surprise?"

"Yeah."

"Well, now I want you to do the same thing but this time you close your eyes and I will take you to the surprise."

"OK. Sounds like fun!"

"Good! Now close your eyes and I'll lead you to where we're going."

I closed my eyes and felt her cover my eyes with her paws. I guess she wanted to make sure that I didn't peek. We must've walked for what miles and the thought of her giving me a surprise was making me very excited. Almost to the point of arousal but not quite.

"Hey, Baby, can I ask you a question while we walk?" She asked lovingly.

"Sure, Sweetie. Ask as many questions as you want." I said as we turned up a street.

"How long has it been since you've had a home cooked meal?"

"Does microwaved food count?"

"No, silly, it doesn't."

"Well, I don't really know. I guess it would have been the last time I saw my parents alive."

"Wow. That was a long time ago, Jessie. That can't be good for your health." She said in a concerned voice.

"Well, I do walk and run everywhere." I said as we stopped walking. I went to take another step but she jerked me back, almost pulling me down. "Why'd you do that?"

"We're here!" She said excitedly. "Tonight you are going to eat dinner with me and my parents!"

I suddenly got a case of indigestion and it felt like my stomach was in knots. The thought of meeting her parents made me extremely nervous. She must have sensed this because she tried to calm me down.

"Don't worry. They won't hate you or anything." She said taking my head in her paws, locking her eyes with mine. "Besides, I told them what you did for me at school and they really wanted to thank you in person."

"What about your siblings? Will they be joining us tonight as well?"

"No. They were sent to their friend's house for a sleep over so it's just the four of us tonight." She said as she knocked on the door.

The door started to open up and I caught the scent of something heavenly coming from the house. I started to sniff the air and salivate, drooling on myself a little bit.

"Smells good doesn't it, Champ?" An older male voice asked. That's when I noticed a Chocolate Lab with a grey and blue checkered sweater was standing in the door. Smiling at the fact that he had just caught me enjoying the aroma of the food that his wife was preparing for us. He had a small pair of circular glasses on which he adjusted for a few minutes before he was satisfied on their position.

"It sure does, Sir!" I said extending my paw in hopes that he accept my greeting. "My name is Jessy."

"Well, Jessy, it's nice to meet you! I'm Trevor." He said as he shook me my paw. "And this is my wife, Trish."

He stepped aside to let a female Labrador come out to greet us.

"Hello, Ma'am."

"Hello yourself, Sweetie." Trish shook my paw as well. A smile of joy, at least I hope it was joy and not something else, on her face. "My, my, Brittany. You were right, he is a cute one."

My face blushed deep red and I swallowed hard with a loud, audible gulp. That was very embarrassing! They all started laughing at my embarrassment.

"I'm sorry, Jessy, I didn't mean to embarrass you." Trish said still chuckling a little bit.

"That's alright, Ma'am."

"You've got quite a strong grip." She said looking at me in a flirtatious way.

"Thank you." I was starting to get really nervous now. Looking at Brittany for some assistance with the situation at hand I started to sweat a lot.

"Come on now, Trish. Leave the poor boy alone. Can't you see he's a nervous wreck?" Trevor stated in a tone that was heavy with understanding. It was almost like he knew what I was thinking and feeling at the moment.

"Oh, boo. You're no fun, Trevor." She replied. "Well, dinner is about ready anyways. Let's get you three seated at the table. Shall we?"

"That sounds great, Mom."

Trevor led Brittany and me into the dining room while his wife went to finish preparing dinner. We sat down at was without a doubt the nicest dining room table I had ever seen. It was a large mahogany table with a very intricate design that traced the edge of the table. Even the chairs we sat in looked nice. If they'd had the same design as the table it would have been a perfect match. Trevor sat beside me and Brittany was across from us with a spot for her mom beside her.

"So, Jessy. Tell me what you do for a living." Trevor asked.

"Well, Sir, I'm a full time student at the time but at the end of each semester I go to work for small convenience store that's actually kind of close to here."

"Really? I bet that job can be interesting sometimes."

"Yeah you can have some pretty strange encounters with people there. I've had to throw a few of them out of there before."

"Did you get hurt?"

"No, but even if I did it wouldn't have mattered to me, I was protecting my friend/manager Kashka."

"Kashka? That's who you work for?"

"Yes, Sir. May I ask why you asked that? It seems like that information surprised you."

"Yeah it kind of did. Kashka is a good friend of mine and she did mention that an employee had protected her from some thugs on a few occasions. She didn't mention any names but I guess I know that was you now."

"Yeah, that was me alright. They was trying to steal a bunch of products and had cut our phone lines so we couldn't contact the police. I just did what needed to be done to make sure she was safe."

"Can I ask you something else, Jessy?"

"Sure."

"How did you avoid getting hurt by them? No offense but you don't look like you can take on a street thug."

"None taken, Sir. I avoided being hurt because of my martial arts training my parents had me and my older brother, Alex, took when we were young."

"Martial arts, huh? What style did or do you practice?"

"Well, Sir, to be honest I don't know what it's called. Sensei Jason said that the style that he taught wasn't one used for traditional means. He told us that it didn't really have a name but was mix of all styles. Sensei once told us, though, that if anyone asks about the name that we can say that he taught us the Way of the Heart."

"The Way of the Heart?"

"Yeah. Sensei taught us to never use this skill unless we are protecting the ones that we love."

"Do you still practice your art?"

"Yes, Sir, but not often."

"Well, if you're going to be dating my daughter, you'd better start practicing more often. I want you to keep her as safe as you possibly can." Trevor looked at me with a sincere look in his eyes and caring smile.

"Yes, Sir!"

"Do you still go to see your Sensei?"

"Unfortunately, no. He closed down his school after his wife and child was killed one day when he was teaching class. They usually came with him but for some reason they stayed home that night." I said, a tear of painful sadness started forming in my eye. My lips curled as I tried to stop myself from crying. "That also happens to have been the night my parents were killed by the same people that killed his family."

Tears started to pour down my face like a hot, salty river. Before I knew it Trevor had wrapped me in a hug and held me tight.

"It's alright, son. You don't have to say any more about that night. Brittany told us everything that happened. Nobody should have to go through what you have." Trevor said almost crying himself now.

"Thank you, Sir. I'm sorry for the mess on your nice sweater." I said, pointing to wet spot on his shoulder that I hoped was just tears and not snot.

"That's alright. Do you know whatever happened to your Sensei?"

"Yeah, I do. On that night he rushed over to our house after he heard that same thing that happened to his family had just happened to mine. He came to help us as best as he could. He took us away from there before any of the bikers could hurt us and rented us an apartment building. We lived there with him for many years. After we all turned 18, he and Alex set out to find the killers. I wanted to go with them but they told me not to come. I am far weaker than either of them in hand to hand combat and probably would've just got in the way. Besides, I was still in high school and about to start college."

"Speaking of which. Do you mind if I ask you what your field of study is?"

"I am an English Major but the class that I like the most is creative writing. I hope to one day become a famous novelist."

"What's your professor's name?"

"Daddy, don't you think that's enough questions for him?"

"I guess you're right, Darling. I'm sorry for asking so many questions, Jessy."

"No need to be sorry to me, Sir. I'm sure you just wanted to be sure that you knew what type of person I am."

"Smart boy." He said smiling.

"Dinner is served!" Trish announced almost giving me a heart attack from the sudden noise.

"Sweetie, look what you did to the poor boy. You scared him half to death." Trevor said chuckling.

"Oh, I'm so sorry about that, Sweetie." She said very apologetically.

"That's alright, Ma'am." I said panting trying to catch my breath. "The food smells really good!"

"Why thank you! Just for that you get first crack at it."

I looked around to Trevor, who was still smiling at me, to see if he had any objections. Then I looked to Brittany, who was also smiling at me. Finally, I looked back to Trevor.

"Go ahead, Jessy. Get yourself as much food as you can get. We don't mind if you go first. Do we, Brittany?"

"Nope!" Brittany said as she grabbed a plate and handed it to me.

I wasn't sure how to react to this kindness. No one had ever been as nice to me as this family was. My eyes started to shimmer with happiness as I accepted the plate.

"Thank you very much!"

There was so much food to choose from and my mouth was dying to try it all. Mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, corn, gravy, roast beef, some type of salad that had lots of lettuce, and cole slaw. All of it was now on my plate and about to be in my belly. My mouth was salivating a lot and I started to drool as I got my first fork full of food in my mouth. The flavor was magical. It almost put me in a state of euphoric pleasure. I took another bite of food, then another, and another. Each bite came to my mouth faster than the last did.

"My you must have been starving. Poor thing, don't you ever eat when you're at home?"

Stopping for a moment to ponder the question and savor the flavor for a while more, I answered. "No, Ma'am. I don't get to eat a lot when I'm at home. When I do eat it's usually food like Ramen Noodle soups."

"You poor boy. Well, that settles it. From now on you're going to eat here with us. Any time you feel hungry you can come by and get something to eat. OK?"

"Really!?"

Trevor, Trish, and Brittany all were nodding. I couldn't believe how nice I was being treated. My face was radiant with happiness. That was short lived, however. Before I could do anything about it my stomach cramped up and a pressure began to build up in my gut. My once radiant face was now contorted with pain.

"Is something wrong, Dearie?"

"No, no, I'm fine!" I said smiling trying to take another bite of food. I couldn't tell her the truth about what was going on. There was no way that I was about to announce in front of this family that was treating me so nice that I had to fart.

Unfortunately, I didn't have to say it, my backside did very shortly after I put the bite of food in my mouth. A loud noise erupted that sounded like someone had jumped onto a giant whoopee cushion. As bad as the sound was, though, the smell was worse. During my entire lifetime I had never smelled one that bad come from me. I looked around the table, frowning and embarrassed. Everyone was shocked to have just witnessed that. I started to whimper, thinking that my one shot at making a good impression on this family was over with.

"Wow, I'm sorry guys. I didn't mean to do that." Trevor said. He was taking the blame for me. "If you'll excuse me, I need to run to the bathroom for a minute."

"Thank you." I quietly whispered to him.

"You're welcome." He whispered back to me, patting me on my back as he excused himself.

"Sigh...Sometimes I don't know about that man. I mean, it's one thing to burp in front of company but doing that!"

"It's quite alright, Ma'am. Sometimes things just happen and there's nothing we can do to stop it."

Trevor returned shortly afterwards and sat back down at the table.

"Hey, Jessy. Would you mind passing me the dinner rolls?"

"Sure thing, Sir."

As I reached for the rolls he took something out of his pocket. I couldn't see what he was doing but I did hear something snap apart. Then he put whatever it was he took out of his pocket back in it.

"Here you go, Sir."

"Thank you!"

"You're welcome."

I took another bite of food, hoping that I wouldn't have another gas attack. This bite tasted different than the others did. It was mashed potatoes with gravy but somehow the flavor changed since Trevor went to the bathroom. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. Trevor opened an anti-acid capsule and put the powder in my gravy. I looked at him confused and saw him looking back at me. He had a warm and caring expression on his face. He wanted to spare me further embarrassment as much as I did. This simple act made me want to hug him but I held back the urge. He gave me a nod as if he knew what I wanted to do.

The rest of the dinner went off without a hitch but by the time we had all finished, it was really dark outside. I was really not looking forward to walking home.

"Jessy, it is really late. Would you like to stay here tonight?" Trevor asked.

"Are you sure? I mean, you guys did just meet me."

"Yes but our daughter loves you, and that's reason enough to ask." Trish said, her arm swung around Trevor's neck. "Besides, if you stay here tonight, you can have breakfast with us in the morning. Trevor and I both have to work tomorrow but you can stay here with Brittany if you'd like."

They were all smiling at me waiting on my answer.

"That is sounds wonderful!" Tears started to roll down my face.

"What's wrong, Jessy?" Brittany asked, concerned.

"Nothing. It' just that no one has ever treated me as nice as you and your family have tonight."

"Aww." Trish said, lovingly.

"I'm glad our family could make you this happy." Trevor said.

All three of them came over to me and gave me a family sized bear hug with me in the middle of it.

"We have a guest room you can use. Come on, I'll take you to it." Trevor said.

"OK! Good night everyone!" I said as happily as I could.

"Good night, Cutie!" Both Trish and Brittany said in unison. Brittany having said this was no surprise but Trish was the one who made me nervous. I was with her husband after all. Looking up at him, with a nervous expression and a little bit fright on my face, I saw him looking back at me with a smile.

"Don't worry, son, I'm not going to hurt you or anything. My wife's just being a flirt." He said. "Here you go, Jessy. This is our guest room."

He turned on the lights so I could look around. It was the most beautiful bedroom I had ever seen. My own bedroom was just the couch in the living room of my apartment. Going over the bed I sat down on it.

"Wow! You have a really beautiful home, Sir!"

"Why thank you!" He said as he walked over and sat down beside me. "I want to let you know something right now, Jessy!"

"OK?" I was getting nervous again. That's when he threw his arms around me and wrapped me up in a hug.

"I appreciate your comment on our home but as far as I'm concerned, it's_your_ home as well. You make our daughter very happy and that makes us happy." He said pulling away from me a little but still holding onto my shoulders so he could look me directly in the eyes.

I started to tear up and was about to cry tears of happiness again when the others walked in.

"We all feel that way, Jessy." Trish said.

"Really?" I asked looking at Brittany.

"You bet we do, Baby."

Then they embraced me in another hug for a few minutes before Trish and Trevor got up to go to their own bedroom. Brittany got up to go to hers as well but not before giving me a parting kiss. Trish and Brittany were the first ones to actually leave the room. Trevor stayed behind to turn the light back off for me.

"Good night, Jessy. Welcome to our home." He said.

"Good night, Sir. Thank you very much!"

"You're welcome, son."

Wow! This was an even better date night than last week was. I couldn't believe the events of the night but there was no way I was about to complain though. I was in heaven.
