A Chaotic Impression

I'm only putting this up because it takes up space in my head that I need for school. I still want feedback though

The next day Dan and Jake went off to school with some bags under their eyes. In home room they barely paid attention to what the teacher was saying when she told them the events for the day. Since there was nothing special going on the day went on as usual; six periods, lunch for an hour, final two periods and a break between the first two periods. Each period lasted about thirty five minutes and the break was twenty five minutes long. The school day started at eight and ended at two so a six hour school day was to be expected every weekday except for Friday, which only had six periods instead of eight. It was the week before half term so most teachers were either finishing off assignments or preparing the class for the next section in the subject.Dan and Jake had a double period of Science then P.E, Math and a double period of English.

"Alright class I'll give you this lesson free," said Mr Ho, their Chemistry teacher, "but I expect to see everyone's science expo ideas when we return two weeks time. No excuses will be accepted."

The class cheered and spent the hour chatting away with their friends. Dan and Jake just slept until a girl shook them awake for the next class. P.E was basically the coach yelling at everyone and making trouble makers do push ups for the entire lesson. The maths teacher took in their assignments and lectured the people who didn't finish. Dan had finished his ages ago and Jake had just completed it the previous evening. Their english professor didn't show so everyone spent the last two periods wandering around school, chatting with their friends or hanging around the library. Dan and Jake used one of the library's computers and logged into a teacher's account to review what happened with Sekhmet but they found that she had somehow escaped the burning building and no major reports of either of them were posted during the save.

"'Certain individuals gave newscasters unproven statements of vigilantes at the scene but wether they were there to cause trouble or to save lives remains a mystery to this reporter,'" Dan read.

"Wow it's not like we saved their lives or anything," Jake muttered, "whose the reporter anyway?"

"Some newbie calling himself Wade Davids," read Dan, getting into his personal history, "he arrived a few months ago and every story he's made either makes us seemed like urban myth or criminal masterminds."

Dan kept hacking and found out that Davids was from London and came here to finish his studies.

"He's seventeen and already has a well paying job at the New York Monthly," grumbled Jake, "I know we do this to help people but this guy's a world class jerk towards heroes. See there's his work on the hero in Canada. Brutal."

"'This particular masked vigilante uses his strength to cause major damage to public buildings, just look at the damage done in the forest fire. It's been burned to cinders because he was reckless.' Wow I hate him already," said Dan, folding his ears back, "he doesn't see that some jobs can become a bit to big for one us to handle but we will still fight anyway. Even at the risk of our own lives"

Jake nodded as the bell signalling lunch rang. Since it was basically the end of school they both went to the parking lot. On his sixteenth Dan's parents sent him a dirt bike which Jake tricked out so it basically became a high tech motorcycle. The bike could reach speeds faster than most race cars and it had a built in biometric scanner so no one but Dan could drive it. Jake had built his own motorcycle from scratch with the same perks but his was built to handle more upgrades while Dan's could only hold a few more before it most likely exploded.

They drove to the coffee shop next to the shipyard to do some recon. Since neither of them drank coffee they both got scones and a muffin each, Dan vanilla, Jake chocolate. Dan used his phone to hack into security cameras around the block and Jake used his watch to control small ariel drones that attached themselves to computers, cranes, whatever tech they could find. In half an hour they had the entire place scanned into their phones and they left quickly, leaving a tip for their waiter.

When they got home Jake went into the garage to check their gear for tonight. Jake had used his dad's old study as a work bench and created some amazing tech from it. New trick arrows for Dan, a retractable staff for himself and two 6inch cylinders that could grow for times their size and become two strong nightsticks with built in tasers. Dan went upstairs to scan the shipyard for perfect hiding spots and trap locations while Jake worked. After an hour or two of preparations they both showered, ate and made excuses to Jake's mom then they left the house with their gear. The boys left their cycles cloaked in an alleyway because they only used them when either of them didn't want to ran or fly. Dan took out his quiver and put his nightsticks on either side while Jake took out a ring and put it on.

"Ready," he asked.

"Let's do this," said Dan, putting on his own ring.

The rings had appeared in Jake's backyard years ago when they first thought of becoming heroes and when the friends had put them one the rings gave them their costumes just as the boys had designed them. As far as either of them could tell the rings were powered with some unknown technology but neither of them ever complained. When they put the rings on a flash of light light up the alleyway then Night Raid and Storm Rider walked out into the empty street. Rider flew into the sky, summoning a storm while Raid ran to the docks. They met on the roof of the store where they had coffee earlier at half past nine to check on their reconnaissance drones. The saw a truck begin to move toward them about ten miles away on a traffic cam and a ship was coming in to the harbour. At the speed each was going it would give the guys thirty minutes to set up which was more than they needed. Night Raid hacked the feed on the cameras and shot remote controlled gas arrows around the area where the ship was going to be. Storm Rider gave them cloud cover and set up cameras of his own by throwing small disks onto certain crates so they could review the footage later. By the time the vehicles arrived the entire place was set and ready for the heroes to make they're move.

Two armoured trucks appeared around the complex carrying a dozen men in each. All of the soldiers were packing high grade guns capable of firing through five inches of steel and reaching a speeds so fast that even Night Raid would have a hard time dodging them.

When the ship pulled in to the harbour the doors on the front of it opened to reveal several large crates marked off as 'fragile cargo'.

The truck backed up so that it could be loaded with the cargo and a few machines were dispatched to moved the crates.

The two heroes nodded at each other and moved in. Night Raid activated arrows with knockout gas that hit three of the soldiers nearest to them. Storm Rider caused some of the machines to go hardwire, making them ram into the trucks and push them over. Raid ran through the soldiers, hitting them with his taser nightsticks, and secured the crates. Rider created small tornados that rammed the remaining men into the metal crates at the shipyard. The heroes gave each other high fives and then went to the crates.

"I wonder what's so valuable that someone would pay three million to keep secret," said Night Raid, opening own with a crowbar.

It was empty. Night Raid moved to each one in turn and found that the were all empty as well.

"We've been set up," said Storm Rider, "but why go through all this trouble? Unless-"

"It's a trap," said Raid, asking out his bow and notching an arrow, "the buyer must have known that I got the coordinates."

"Not just that," said a voice.

The heroes were suddenly surrounded by dozens of heavily armed men wearing body armour. Some of the soldiers were bears wielding giant hammers or clubs. Night Raid pointed his arrow at the man, wearing a bright red suit, appearing from the from the centre.

"I believe your generation say, 'you've been duped,' nowadays," said Red Suit grinning, "my employer's merchandise was moved several weeks ago but we needed you out of the way so we made the local idiot pay thousands of dollars to move empty crates across the border."

"We're flattered," said Storm Rider, using his voice modulator, "all this for us? I'm very impressed with your work Mr?"

"Oh call me Set," Red Suit replied, "I find it fitting. God of chaos and all that. Really suits my personality don't you think?"

Set signalled his men to stand ready then said, "put that ridiculous bow down dog. It'll do you no good here. My men can fire faster than you can run and my bears are more than a match for Storm Rider."

"Now the dog comment was not your best play," said Storm Rider taking a step back from his friend.

"Why is that?"

"Because A, I'm not a dog and B, now I'm pissed," said Night Raid and he shot his arrow into the air above their heads.

The arrow sent out a blinding flash that disoriented the shooters. Raid fired a few arrows that were filled with foam cement and incapacitated most if the goons. Rider activated his staff and fired lightning into the crowd, stunning them. Raid ran into the remaining crowd and used his nightsticks to disable them but there were too many for him to fight. Rider tussled with the bears but their hammers proved to be strong enough to knock him back against some of the crates. The two friends found themselves surrounded on all sides by Set's men and they were now too wounded to put up another fight.

"Applause for a valiant effort," said Set, "but now, I'm afraid, comes the messy part. Gentlemen fire when ready."

Everyone raised their weapons, Night Raid heard them fire and braced for the bullets but they never came. He opened his eyes to find everyone, but himself, frozen in place. Even the bullets were still, some were just coming out of the gun barrels and the blast surrounding them were like something out of a movie. Night Raid looked at his friend to find that he was also frozen in place.

He heard noise from behind him and immediately froze in place. Raid saw two people make their way to him and Storm Rider, a sixteen year old Indian girl, wearing something similar to an purple Egyptian belly dancer costume with part of her face covered by veil, and an brown Ursine wearing sleeveless dessert camouflage commando gear with a dynamo mask and the eye of Horus on his chest. The bear gave a small growl, staring at Night Raid with a worried expression.

"My spell will last long enough for us to do our job now be quiet," said the girl. She raised her hand and clicked her fingers in Storm Rider's face. He unfroze and crumbled into the bear's arms. The bear hoisted Storm onto his shoulder while the girl looked at Night Raid.

"I wish we didn't have to leave this one," she said, hand on his chest, "I know he might survive but he will be crushed by the disappearance of his friend."

Before she could move her hand away Night Raid grabbed it, spun her around then held her like a hostage before the bear could do so much as blink.

"What's going on," he said, pointing his wrist crossbow to her head, "tell me or no more Jasmine."

"We are not you enemy good wolf," said the girl through the hold, "but if you do not let me go my brother will kill her friend."

The bear growled in agreement, putting his claws close to Rider's head for emphasis. Night Raid let the girl go and she quickly move over to the bear. A shimmering rainbow surrounded them but Night Raid leaped into it before they disappeared. They arrived on a rooftop several miles from the shipyard and it seemed that the girl wasn't surprised by his arrival. Raid notched an arrow with a thick head onto his bow and aimed right at the centre of the bear's face. The arrow would only knock him out but Raid didn't need them to know that.

"Let him go or I'll shoot."

The girl stood in between them, hands raised to hold them apart from one another. Her black hair was let down around her shoulders and she wore golden eyeliner giving her graceful features.

"What is it you wish to know archer," she asked carefully.

"First off, who the heck are you people and what do you want with my friend?"

The girl placed her hand on his and slowly lowered his bow till the arrow was pointed at the ground.

"My name," she said gently, "is Isis and your friend is needed to help us save the world."
