Play Me a Song

Chapter 1: Unexpected

I yawned as I opened my eyes and my ears twitched as my alarm clock blared loudly. It was 9 am on a Saturday and as usual my plans for today are stolen by work. I sat up and clapped my hands twice to make the lights in the dorm room turn on; the room was large but only had one bed in it. The floors were carpeted and the walls were silky white but there was no other soul in here but my own. I pressed the snooze button on the digital clock before swinging my legs over the side of the bed to stand up. My feet dragged as I waked to the bathroom static collecting in my fur; I entered the bathroom and turned on the light so I could look in the mirror, my hair was its usual mess while my rose pink eyes with amethyst exterior looked like they were going to close, I grabbed a brush and dragged it through my grey and cobalt tipped mane. I brushed my teeth clean before combing my beard-like fur on my face until it was neat. I pulled off my clothing as I walked over to the shower turning the water to the warm setting before stepping in letting myself be enveloped by the steam. I picked up my body wash and a wash rag and began scrubbing myself clean from head to toe. I turned the water off and then sighed heavily before reaching for my black towel on the rack; I wrapped it around my waist after drying my body off so I could reenter my room. I put on a pair of red boxer briefs with my white dress pants, black dress shirt and white tie and blazer.

"Just another day on stage." I said to myself.

I threw on my black dress shoes with silver buckles, put my wallet into my pocket, and grabbed my cellphone and keys. The world disappeared around me until I made my way to the train station to buy my usual ticket. I walked down the stairs of the station to sit on one of the benches of the horrible smelling station; even the cold winter winds couldn't blow away the smell of garbage. I heard the train whistle blow as it arrived to pick up new passengers, myself included, I stood up to board the 125-red train Evergreen St. The three stops passed by like nothing to me as I just sighed in my seat. When the trained stopped I walked the last three blocks to Winter Blossom Park; the trees were all in bloom showing of their beautiful small white flowers that fell down onto the still lush green grass. I walked the cobblestone path towards the large wooden stage where musicians were already playing in front of shiny velvet curtains. I opened the door to the backstage and was rushed inside.

"Xav, for goodness sake please put on a coat if you're going to walk around! The last thing I need is my star getting a cold!" Tyler, a white lion and my boss, shouted at me like he usually does.

"Yes sir." I say walking past him not really caring.

I walked further back stage past the other members of the orchestra, many greeted me with their usual smiles while others scoffed when they saw me. I walked into the small private room with a gold star with my name, Xav Moonrose, on it. The inside had a simple full length mirror, a dresser with make-up, hair care products I picked up my lint brush and ran it across the surface of my clothing form my neck to the hem of my pants. I brushed my tail, which was only about 9.5 inches long, until the grey fur was silky smooth while the cobalt underside was glinting. I heard someone knock on the door.

"Come in!" I shouted.

The door opened slowly and a female tiger with black fur and pink stripes poked her head in.

"10 minutes till curtain Mr. Moonrose." She informed me.

"Thank you I'll be out in a moment." I replied and the door closed.

I turned to a small locker and turned the dial left to 36 then right to 47 and left again to 14. It clicked open and I took out the leather violin case by the handle; I set it on top of the locker and undid the latches the held it closed. I opened it and looked down at the beautiful crimson wood violin the strings were made of my own fur wound together to be stronger than horse hair strings. I removed it and the bow, made from the same materials, and walked out of my dressing room towards the side stage. I could see and hear the entire orchestra as they began to play Mozart's Last Requiem. The song started out slow and mellifluous before I became loud with a major spike in the tempo that sent shivers up my spine I stood there the entire time unmoved and unfazed the music putting me in bliss. I was pulled back to reality by the sound of the crowd applauding; the orchestra members stood up and exited the opposite tide of the stage from where I stood.

"I hope you all are ready for a show." Velvet, a brown rabbit , said standing center stage in a cream tailcoat suit. "Today our star violinist will be playing a modern day classic by Lindsey Starling. Ladies and gentlemen please assist me in welcoming our favorite Lynx-Wolf Hybrid Xav Moonrose as he plays Shatter Me."

The crowd started to applaud louder than before as I made my way to forward center stage as the curtains dropped to hide the chairs behind me. I positioned my violin on my shoulder holding it with the my chin; I put my right foot forward but didn't let my heel touch the floor. I played the first few notes slowly as I swayed side to side in rhythm and as it crescendo I began to spin and take and take new stances each one bolder as the song continued. The song ended and I was on one knee looking up at the clear blue sky, the crowds before me cheered and whistled, I looked down and saw a beautiful white thorn less rose at my feet. I picked it up as I stood to my feet giving the crowd a low bow before walking off stage. I spent the next hour standing in a corner just listening to the last five songs that were played occasionally smelling the rose that my secret admirer left me; it's sweet scent made me smile as the soft petals tickled my nose.

"I'm actually curious who you are." I stated as the song ended.

I walked out of back stage door to the outside where I was greeted by small cold snowflakes falling onto my face. I walked out of the park and went across the street to the nearby café, Wild Coffee; the inside was decorated like a lush exotic jungle but, with a coffee smell that woke you up when you stepped in. I walked to the front counter and looked up at the menu.

"I'll have a Tiger Stripped Caramel Java with extra whipped cream." I stated pulling out my wallet, my eyes widened when I realized it had not cash and my only debit card wasn't there.

I sighed as I closed my wallet and was going to turn to walk away when a hand landed on my shoulder.

"I'll have the same thing as him. And don't worry I'll pay for them." A guy with a silvery voice said to me.

I turned my head and saw his face; he was a tiger with pitch black fur, crimson stripes on both side of his arms, neck and perfectly symmetrical on his face, his eyes were like shiny green emeralds, and he had long dark red hair that created bangs on the center his forehead while the rest was brushed back. He wore a long sleeve royal blue shirt, with black jeans, and a matching scarf.

"Hi, I'm Rider nice to meet you." He said looking at me with a smile.
