It had been a day since Chris had fully transformed and taken his place with his mate Karina. But Chris didn't have any concept of time, to him, he'd always been a water monitor. On the first night he had a horrible dream. In his dream his scales had sloughed off and he'd been left a weird two legged creature. He woke with a startled hiss that woke Karina next to him. Using various hisses and body motions she asked him "What's wrong my mate?" "I just had a horrible dream. I dreamt that I was a human, like the one we saw run off." Chris replied. Unlike Chris, Karina had remembered the whole ordeal of the last few days. How the young human had become her zookeeper. How she had watched him return each day looking more reptilian than the last. "It's okay Chris. It was just a dream." Karina said, not wanting to ruin a good thing.
Suddenly they realized they were not alone. A great emerald snake the likes of which has never been seen was sitting on the rock above the door watching them. It had to be at least forty feet long, and the body had to be two feet wide. Karina and Chris backed against the wall hissing in warning. But they knew they were doomed. There was no way they could defend themselves against such a massive snake. They prepared to fight to the death until the snake spoke. "Greetingssssss my children." It said in a deep hissing voice that reverberated around their enclosure. Chris noticed that its mouth was actually moving. It could talk like the humans! "I am Serpenssssss, the god of reptilesssss, and our time hassss come at lasssst!" Suddenly, Chris spoke. "What are you talking abo----"he stopped, flicking his tongue out in confusion, he just spoke like a human. "How am I doing this?" He asked the snake. "I am empowering the reptilesssssss of this world. Around me you have supreme intelligence. You were lucky enough to be the firsssst human to join my kingdom, I hope many others will follow. Before I go further, let me explain what issss happening." Chris and Karina listened intently. This was the god of their kind! "Chrisssss, although you do not sssssee yourssself asss one now, not a day ago, you were human." Chris hissed in disgust, so that was where that terrible dream had come from. Serpens continued, "I had planned to resssssurect the dinosssaurs from the reptilesss of thisss world and remove humanity, but it ssssseeems my
reptilian magic had an unforessseen effect. While the magic meant to mutate the reptilesss of thisss world certainly would have changed any human expossssed to it long enough, it would have changed you into a ssssimple animal without intelligent thought. But with you the change happened much quicker. You took an immediate, intimate liking to Karina, and when you began to change, you not only didn't panic, you embraced it. I watched you tear your own houssse apart, intent on creating a den for you and Karina." Karina looked at Chris with new respect, this human-turned-lizard really had cared for her. "Thisss isss what causssed me to changed my mind. There are many houses in thisss would that could be transssformed jussst like yourss. It appearss ass if humans are extremely vulnerable to reptilian charms. Sso I want to change the humansss of thiss world into reptilesss. I am going to imbue reptiles with an irressitable attraction. There will be no bloodssshed. I go now for my final tessst. The human Cynthia wasss terrified of my power. If ssshe can be converted as you were, embracing life asss a reptile, thisss world will change. Finally, I leave you with thisss gift." A tunnel appeared at the back of their enclosure. "Thisss tunnel leadsss directly to the den you created Chrisss. Treat your mate well. There will sssoon be many new reptilesss in thisss world." With that the great snake disappeared.
Chris and Karina looked at each other in amazement. He tried to speak, and Chris realized that they were back to communicating through hisses and body language, and his thoughts had simplified. Chris shook his head. No matter, this felt more natural. "So that movie I watched wasn't just entertainment. It was a prophecy." Chris said to Karina. "We will soon be living in a perfect world my mate! Now to show you the home I built for us." With that Karina and Chris entered the tunnel, emerging shortly in Chris's familiar bedroom. Karina hissed in surprise. "Chris, you did this for me?" Karina asked in surprise. "Of course my dear." Chris answered. "Are you sure you were ever human?" Karina said with a hissing that sounded like laughter. "I can't remember it that much." Said Chris. "Well I can. You were my zookeeper, I watched you come every day, and every day you looked more and more like me. Until finally you completely shed your human form and joined me for good." Said Karina with admiration. "I hope Cynthia converts like I did, it'd be a shame to lose too many potential reptiles." Chris said. "Remember what we smelled before she left?" Karina replied. "There was a slight snakish quality to her
scent after just a few moments of looking into Hercules' eyes. Hercules will take care of it." Chris and Karina curled up on their sand bed, thrumming with pleasure.
