This is Chapter 2 in my story. I hope you enjoy reading it

Chapter 2: The Date

It was about ten till 7 when I finally got to the mall. You know, you never really know how good your stamina is until you have to run or walk to everywhere because you don't have a car or even a bicycle. By the time I got there I was really out of breath and panting really hard. I tell you what you get some really weird looks when you're panting hard and doubled over with your hands on your knees trying to catch your breath. It didn't dawn on me until it was too late that the spot I had chosen to catch my breath was full of only women. I must have looked like a pervert to them. So much for saving myself an embarrassing moment. My face flushed red and my cheeks felt like they were on fire. As quickly as I possibly could I ran out the area. I was, after all, on a mission to be with the girl that I hoped to marry someday. It didn't take me long to find her outside of the Royal Cinema Movie Theater. It was clear to me what she wanted to do and personally, I didn't care what movie we watched as long as I got to watch it with her.

"Hi, Brittany."

"There you are, Jessy. Do you know how long I've been waiting?" She asked playfully.

"I'm sorry if I'm late but I don't have any means of transportation other than my own legs."

"I was only kidding with you, Sweetie." She leaned in and kissed my forehead. "I don't mind if you're late or not as long as you're here now."

"Oh, good." I chuckled nervously, sweating a little bit down my face. "So? Do you want to go see a movie?"

"Well, I wouldn't be standing outside the theater if I didn't, Silly."

"I guess you have a point there." I felt at my ego get crushed a little. She started to giggle at me a little bit. "So which one would you like to go see?"

"That one!" She pointed very excitedly to a romantic movie called Deepest Love.

"Ok, we'll go and see that one!" I said with a big smile barely able to control myself from bursting with excitement over that fact that she wants to go see a romance movie with me. At this point I couldn't have been happier.

"Two tickets for Deepest Love, please." I said to the ticket vendor, still grinning.

"Alright, sir, that'll be $25.00."

I saw Brittany reaching into her purse and produce a wallet and lightly grabbed her wrist. Startled she looked at me with an inquisitive look.

"Don't worry, I'll get this. It's only right for the guy to pay for the date. That's how I was brought up to be anyway." Brittany closed her eyes and gave me a big, happy smile. I reached for my own wallet and paid for the tickets as well as the snacks and drinks.

The movie started a few minutes after we found our seats. Well, the previews did anyways. The actual movie didn't start for another 15 minutes. This gave me an opportunity to talk to her.

"Hey, Brittany? Can I ask you something?"

She looked at me a confused look while sucking on a straw in her soda.

"Sure. You can ask me anything, Jessy."

"Why did you choose to go out with me instead of one of the jocks? Or anyone who's in better physical shape than I am for that matter?"

She put on a loving smile and a closed her eyes as if she was thinking about her answer. When she did look back up she was looking at the screen at first. Then she slowly turned towards me.

"The answer to that question is simple. It doesn't matter how you look to me very much. Muscles aren't everything you know. I don't care how far they can run or throw a football. You have the sweetest personality of anyone that I know. That is why I chose you over them. I love being around you, Jessy. When I'm with you I feel safe and comfortable. I wouldn't feel that way with anyone else and I know that to be a fact. There is no one on this planet or any others that I'd want to spend the rest of my days with." She leaned forward and kissed me on my forehead again.

Her answer left me speechless and so happy that I cried a little bit. She took her finger a wiped a tear from my face and gave me a hug.

"Now, now. There's no need for that yet the movie hasn't even started." She said smiling at me. I couldn't help but stare into her sapphire colored eyes that seemed to shimmer in the light from the theater.

"Thank you." I said choking back a sob.

We both turned our attention to the screen and watched as the movie started to play. To be honest, I didn't really so much watch the movie itself as I did Brittany while she watched it. I caught a few minutes of the movie but not really enough to know what was going on. I think it was about a hyena who was in love with a female lion. I only looked at the screen when Brittany caught me staring at her and I didn't want it to look like I was staring. She knew though. I know that she did because I heard her chuckle every time that she caught me.

When the movie was over and we stood up to leave is when I realized that drinking a huge 52oz drink probably wasn't a good idea. I had to go to the bathroom and bad. We stopped by the bathrooms outside to I could go relieve myself.

"Sorry about that, Brittany. I guess that drink was a bit too much for my bladder to handle."

"Don't worry about it, Sweetie. Everyone has to go now and then." She said warmly. "Now come on, I'm hungry. Let's go someplace to eat."

"Ok, sounds good. You pick the place and we'll grab some dinner."

She started to stare off into space for a minute before looking around the mall to see if she could spot a place to eat. After several minutes of searching she frowned.

"You know, Brittany, we don't have to eat here if you don't want too. We can anywhere in town and eat. We can take a bus if you want."

Her eyes lit up and the smile returned to her face.

"Thank you, Jessy. All of these place look terrible but can I ask you something now?"

She did have a point from what I could see all the food stands at the mall were pretty gross.

"Sure, Brittany. Like you told me earlier you can ask me anything." I smiled at her.

"Instead of taking the bus, can we walk? I know of a great place down the road a little bit and I think that would be another great opportunity for us to get to know each other better."

"Sure, we can. You lead the way and I'll follow."

She threw herself at me and gave me a big hug around my chest.

"Thank you so much"

"You're welcome." I whispered in her ear as I wrapped her in my arms.

She said that the place she wanted to go to was called Corrida's Steak House. I had heard of this place and it always got good reviews from food critics. Having never been there before I got excited for dinner. This meant that I would finally get have a nice dinner with the girl that I loved so much it felt like my heart could burst. We started our little walk and it was now her turn to ask me some questions.

"Jessy?"

"Yeah?"

"What is your family like? I mean, do you think that they would be upset that their panther son would be going out with a canine?"

"No. They wouldn't mind. My youngest brother married a fox and our oldest brother didn't mind one bit."

"What about your parents? Do you think they would care?"

It took me a moment to answer that question. It was a dark subject to talk about with me. With a solemn look on my face I answered the question. I looked straight ahead of us as I remembered that night so many years ago. Tearing up as I recounted the tale to her.

"My parents wouldn't have minded any. They were very open minded people."

"Were?"

"Yeah. When I was ten years old a gang of bikers came to our house and started to rob us. The gang wasn't very big it was three or four members strong but they had weapons. Every one of them had a gun of some kind. A few of them had two guns. My father was killed trying to protect me and my brothers while mom rushed to get us out of the house. She killed as soon as she pushed out the back door and told us to run away. I saw those bastards execute her. My oldest brother, Alex, so that, too. Our little brother was only a few months old at the time. So he never even got a chance to meet our parents in person. He's only seen them in home movies and pictures." I couldn't hold back my tears anymore. My feet stopped moving and I started to cry uncontrollably.

Brittany looked at me very sadly and hugged me. She let me cry into her shoulder while trying to be comforting.

"It's alright, Sweetie. You go ahead and cry your heart out. Take as long as you need to." She said nuzzling my wet cheeks and she started to cry a little herself.

After a few minutes of sobbing the tears stopped flowing from my eyes and she wiped my tears away again. She gave me another big hug that lasted for several minutes.

"Thank you, Brittany." I said in a low tone.

"Anytime, Sweetie. So what happened to your older brother?"

"He vowed to hunt down the bikers and make them pay for destroying our family. I begged him not to go looking for them. Not because I didn't want vengeance or anything, trust me I do, but I don't want any more of my family to die. We are the only three left alive. However, when Alex sets his mind on doing something, nothing will stop him. So I quit bugging him about it and said that if they would show back up here that I would notify him."

I looked over at Brittany and saw that she was looking depressed, almost crying. A tear started to run down her face and she bit her lip to try and hold back the tears. I put a hand on her shoulder and pulled her into my arms. My turn to be the shoulder to cry on.

"I'm so sorry, Jessie. I didn...." I silenced her with a kiss.

"It's alright, Honey. You had no way of knowing about my past." She smiled at me with teary eyes and I gave her another kiss. This time it was a long and loving kiss that lasted for several minutes. Time itself seemed to freeze when we kissed and nothing could interrupt us. Nothing except...

GROWL!!!

Both of us opened our eyes wide and blushed as we realized that the noise had come from our empty bellies growling in unison.

"All better now?" I asked gently brushing the tears from her face.

"Yes. Thank you."

"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm starving."

"You bet I am, but I do have one more question for you."

"Oh?"

"Do you think that would go someplace after dinner and get desert?"

"Sure."

"Yay!"

"But this time, I get to pick the place." I said with a grin.

"Ok that sounds fair." She said with a happy smile and a look of curiosity.

"Don't worry, we won't have to go far."

"OK!" She said with an even bigger smile.

We finally got to the restaurant and I opened the door for her and even pulled out her chair and pushed her in her chair back under the table. She decided to get a Sirloin steak and got a T-Bone. We both had some soda to drink instead of the wine. If we didn't have any place else to go after Corrida's I wouldn't mind having some wine but I knew exactly where we were going later, and I wanted everything to go perfectly.

Before our food came I decided to ask her about her family. Since she asked about mine I thought that it would be nice to know a little about her family.

"So, tell me, Brittany. What is your family like? Do you have any brothers or sisters?"

"Well, my mom and dad both work at a retail store. My mom is a cashier and my dad is a shelf stocker. I do have a sister and a brother both of which are only 12 years old."

"Are they twins?"

"Yes but they're not identical. My brother has a dark spot on the side of his snout and a big dark spot on his back. That's due to the fact that my dad is a chocolate lab and my mom is a golden lab."

"Well, that's interesting. It makes it easy to tell them apart I'd bet."

"Yeah, it does. That is, when my brother doesn't get into the make-up at home it does." She chuckled at the thought of her brother getting dusted with make-up.

"Do you think that your parents would have any objections to us being together?"

"No. Like your parents were mine are very open minded."

"I'm glad to hear that." I smiled at her with a warm expression. She did the same back to me.

The food finally came and we ate it rather quickly. It was as if we'd never had food before. The flavor of the steak was so incredibly good and the smell of the food just made me even hungrier. Brittany asked if she could try my steak and I gladly gave some of mine up. She gave me some of hers as well. Both steaks were bursting with flavor and were so juicy that they didn't need any sauce at all. They were swimming in their own juices. I could see why Corrida's got such good reviews all the time now. The bill came and Brittany once again reached for her wallet.

"Now, Brittany, what did I say earlier about you paying for your stuff when I'm around?" I said playfully.

"But this is so expens...." I cupped her paw that was holding the check in mine.

"Don't worry about it, Darling." I said in a hushed loving voice.

After the bill had been paid for we left for the next spot for dessert. Leading the way I held my paws over her eyes being careful not to step on her feet or make her trip.

"We're we going?"

"You'll see when we get there." I said playfully.

"You're just a big tease aren't you?"

"Uh-oh, you got me." I joked.

I let go of her eyes after several minutes of walking. She blinked a few times to get used to the lights. Since it was now very outside the street lights were on and very bright. After her eyes had adjusted I heard her gasp really loud and squeal. We were at the Daron State Fair. The air was filled with the smell of cotton candy, popcorn, and funnel cake. With big, bright, shimmering eyes Brittany looked at me.

"Thank you so much for bringing me here!"

"You are very welcome. Come on, let's go have some fun."

She gave me a big hug and kiss before we went in. We ate lots of junk food and played several fair games. I was able to when her a few things but the most notable prize she picked out was a big, plush panther doll that looked a lot like me. Some color fur but different colored eyes.

"Now when you're not with me I can pretend that this little guy is you." She said hugging the doll.

"Aww, that's so cute of you." I said sweetly. "Would you like to go on the Ferris wheel with me?"

"I'm scared of heights."

"That's alright, I'll with you. I promise I won't let anything happen to you. However, if you still don't want to go, I won't force you to go."

"Thank you. I still don't want to go on the ride though. How about we go sit on the docks and watch the fireworks?"

"That sounds like a fun idea!"

We spent the rest of the night laying on the docks just watching the fireworks explode overhead forming all kinds of different colored shapes with their fiery glory. Near the end of the Grand Finale is when I made my move. I rolled over on my side to face Brittany propping myself up on my elbow a little bit.

"You know, these fireworks are beautiful, but..."

"But, what?"

"Why would I want to look up at those when the most beautiful firework is laying here next to me on this dock?" I asked her my muzzle nearly touching hers. The fireworks exploding gave me a silhouette against the dark sky. My fur was barely visible since there are no lights at the docks. My eyes were the only other things that was able to be seen. It was a very romantic moment. Our eyes were locked and our tongues soon followed. I gave her a deep loving kiss with our tongues intertwined. This went on for a few minutes. Sadly the moment ended too soon when the Grand Finale was over and all the other people started to make a lot of noise. We broke our embrace and stood up to go home as well.

"I really didn't want that moment to end, Jessie." She said blushing.

"Yeah me neither, but you know, there's always next time." I said smiling at her.

"You bet!"

"Now, how about I walk you home?"

"That would be nice. Thank you!"

I smiled and put a hand on the back of my head blushing.

When we got to her house, her family was waiting for her in the living room. Waiting to get all of the details of the night from her, I'm sure. I walked her up to her front door and started to say my goodbye.

"So, it's official then. Second Date?"

"That's a definite yes. How about next Friday?"

"Any day is fine with me, Sweetie. You just pick the day and I will go with you anywhere you want."

"Friday it is then. Same time, same place?"

"Sure, that'd be great."

"Well, I guess I'd better get inside. I'll see you soon, Jessie. Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Brittany."

We gave each other another long goodnight kiss and the people in the house started to whoop and holler after a while of seeing the spectacle of their loved one kissing me. Upon hearing this noise we both blushed a deep red and said goodnight.

It was a long walk home but with the amount of love that I was feeling in my heart it didn't matter how far I had to walk. Brittany loved me and I loved her. That's all that mattered to me and I was sure that next week was going to be just as good if not better. The excitement was almost too much for too handle. I couldn't hardly wait to see what next Friday would be like.
