Shark Bait 2 (Part 1)

Story by Rob Stirling on SoFurry

The sun had set and the night had arrived on the small island of Fiji. The moon glistened with the stars setting the beaches alight with a vibrant lustre.

However unwelcome trouble was brewing within a small exotic bar on the beachfront. A group of five rowdy out of place dock workers had drank themselves into a stupor, singing obnoxiously, cackling and slapping the ass of every waitress that served them. However the bar owner paid no attention to their behaviour, the memory of what those men had done to his bar the last time he confronted them was still fresh in his mind.

As the evening progressed the bar emptied pretty quickly and all who were left were two beautiful female waitresses wearing nothing but floral bikinis, one was an athletic bottlenose dolphin with silky blue hair and small mosquito bite breasts. The other was a red parrot with dazzlingly colourful tail-feathers and breasts the size of melons. There was also a tabby ginger cat bartending, the owner of the bar. The only customers left were two furry strangers sitting in a corner booth and the five workers sitting in the centre table, all of whom were dogs of different breeds.

"Honeypot! Another round!" One of the workers called, the girls looked to each other with hesitancy and played rock paper scissors to see who would serve them next.

As the dolphin reluctantly took a tray of drinks over to the centre table the parrot attended the strangers with a great deal of relief. She greeted the strangers with a cute smile whilst bending over to give them an eyeful, it was a good way of getting high tips, "Can I get you handsome gentlemen anything else?"

Before they could respond a yelp was heard from the dolphin followed by the sound of a firm slap, "Hey! I told you! Don't touch the tail!" There was a burst of laughter from all the dogs except the Rottweiler with the pulsing red mark on his cheek. He stood up slowly bearing down at the dolphin with antagonism. The anger from the sea mammal quickly turned to freight, "I am sorry sir. I won't charge you for this round."

Her attempt to make amends was futile, "Sorry isn't good enough honeypot. You just made me look a fool in front of my friends. Tell you what, you waive the tab and I will forget all about your little outburst." That was a threat, clear and true.

"But... your tab is over fifty dollars, we can't jus..." her words were cut short by the sudden grip from the dog's paw around her neck.

The bartender calls out in panic, "The tab is waived! Let her go!"

"I don't remember talking to you!" he spat at the cat before turning his attention back on the helpless dolphin, "I was talking to honeypot over here. In fact I would kinda like to taste some of her sweet honey," he gives her a sickening lick on her cheek. Her eyes were filled with revulsion and the choking grip forced tears out of her frightened big blue eyes.

Suddenly the dog lets go and she backs away coughing to the floor. When she looked up she saw the large Rottweiler hovering off the ground by the neck. His legs kicked wildly as he clutched at the large white claw around his neck trying to pull himself free.

One of the strangers that sat at the corner of the bar had all too quickly charged across the room and picked up the dog like a rag doll. It was the tall powerful polar bear Rob, teeth clenched and eyes filled with nothing but rage, "I think you and I should have a little chat," the bear said all too calmly.

The other dogs got to their feet in hostility and Rob threw the pooch onto the floor in a full force choke slam. As one dog smashed a bottle on the table another dog picked up a chair while the other two were still in shock as they looked upon the intimidating enemy they now face.

Rob took his stance, hands up and opened with feet firmly at the ready. The dog with the bottle charged forward and just as he was within reaching distance Rob snatched his wrist with a grip stronger than steel. Rob struck a blow to his face before pulling his arm around and slamming his almighty elbow right down into the dogs elbow. There was a sickening crack and the dog howled before collapsing to the floor in tears. With quick reaction Rob confronted the other dog holding the chair. The dog tried to use it as a shield but Rob ploughed his foot straight through the chair with great might and into the hound's stomach. It sent the Canine flying back a few meters before landing hard and spitting up a tablespoon of blood.

The quick execution of Rob's attacks left everyone who witnessed it stunned. When Rob turned to the two other dogs they panicked, "Shit! He knows Kung Fu!"

"What do we do?!"

"I'll tell you what to do," replied the polar bear, "get the hell out of here and don't come back."

They nodded and pulled their broken friends from the floor and started to shuffle out, the one Rob had by the throat started to crawl away and suddenly he felt the bear's heavy boot on his back pressing down on him with stifling force, "Not you mate. We haven't even started our little chat yet."

The bear pulled him up to his feet and once again had him by the throat face to face. The stinking breath of the dog almost forced Rob to gag. The Rottweiler yelled, "Cowards!" to his friends just as they disappeared outside.

"Hey! Focus on me mate," Rob said with a sharp slap to the face, "You are Oscar Park and were the Dock master of Suva Harbour. Am I correct?"

"What?"

Rob slams the dogs face right into an empty bottle on the table without a moment's notice, it shatters and blood now covers half the dog's face, dotted with little pieces of sharp glass. There was a quick painful scream before Rob pulls him up again, "I repeat. You are Oscar Park and were the Dock master of Suva Harbour. Am I correct?"

"AHH! God, Yes! What the hell is wrong with you?!"

"I am looking for a ship that was called the Lady Noh in Japanese. It is a large cargo freighter. We believe that name has been changed and all I would like to know is what it is called now."

"Lots of Japanese ships come through here! I cannot remember all of them!"

"What about the ships that filled your pockets to avoid inspection."

The dogs doughy brown eyes widen with shock, "How do you know about that?"

"My friend over there. He used to bribe you all the time before you got the sack for taking bribes," Rob looks to the mongoose Sam. He was the other stranger in the corner wearing an Aloha shirt and brown shorts. The tanned mammal raised a glass to the dog in greetings with a cocky smile.

"I took a lot of bribes okay! Even from the Japanese!"

"We are looking for sharks. Does that narrow it down?"

There was a brief pause as the bloodied hound looks away in reflection, "Yeah... this tiger shark guy. He dealt with me personally. An American. He captained a cargo freighter. The Jasmine!"

"Good," all of a sudden Rob once again slams the dogs head onto the table, this time pushing him hard into the loose glass. A howl was made before the weeping dog yelled, "Oh god! I told you what you wanted to know."

"Yes you did. However that was for putting your hands on a lady without permission. Now unless you wish to lose an eye I suggest you apologize."

Rob has his claw right on the skull, pushing his face down harder and harder every second before the dog wails, "I'm sorry!"

The two waitresses looked at the scene in shock with their hands covering their gaping mouths. Rob lets his deserving victim slide to the floor, "Get out," the mutt crawls to his feet and flees the bar clenching his wounded face.

Rob turns to the girls with concern, "Are you two okay? I am sorry you had to witness that. We wanted to wait until they left to confront them."

The dolphin quickly waves him off with a relieved smile, "it's okay. We see blood in this bar all the time. It is far rarer that we see an actual gentleman here."

"And we have never seen a gentleman that was so... healthy," the bird followed with a flirtatious tone taking in the attractive sight of the bear, her eyes could not be taken away from the carved pectorals hidden behind his olive green t shirt.

Sam heads over to the bar after he gulps down his whiskey and drops a wad of cash in front of the tabby ginger cat, "For damages and grief."

The cat starts to count the cash with enthusiasm, "Thanks a lot. You two are welcome here anytime. First round every night on the house!"

After getting reassurances from the girls Rob heads over to the bar and joins Sam, "give me the list."

Sam hands over a folded up piece of paper, "A please would be nice y'know. Every once and a while."

Rob paid no attention and snatched the paper before unfolding it on the bar. What Rob was reading was a rough pencilled in list of all ships that were currently docked in the local harbour along with the dock numbers. He was sure he saw the Jasmine when he looked at it before but he needed to be certain.

"The Jasmine. Dock twelve. She's here," there was a slight hint of excitement in the bear's voice however he knew that the worst was still to come. Getting on that ship and rescuing Leilani will put all his skill and experience to the test, "Fetch me the bag."

The mongoose strolls over to the booth and picks up a grey rucksack as Rob approaches the exit. Sam passes him the goods and Rob peeks in the bag, "Are you sure these are water tight?"

"Well they are designed to go off underwater so... yeah..." Sam iterates with a little sarcasm, "now each device has a timer. Just turn the clock to how many minutes you want and then hit the two red buttons on the sides together to arm it and then the clock will start ticking."

"Will this be enough to cripple the vessel?"

"Cripple it!? This is enough to wipe it from the earth! You are holding some serious shit."

Rob zips the bag up and carefully throws it over his shoulder with a great deal of discomfort shown in his expression, "Right. I will meet you back here in two hours."

Sam folds his arms and raises a brow, "You make it sound like a trip to the moving pictures. What makes you so sure you are going to survive this?"

"Who dares wins," Rob smirks.

Sam looks at him with indifference, "That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard."

As the polar bear took his first steps out of the door he head a female voice call him, "Hey handsome!" he turned and both of the waitresses trotted through the door with eagerness in their stride, "You aren't leaving us so soon are you?" the parrot said with a playful gaze placing her hands on her curvy waist.

"Time isn't on my side I'm afraid loves."

"Well I am sure you have enough time for this..."the dolphin stepped forward, reached up around Rob's soft scruffy neck and pulled him down for a deep wet kiss. She closed her eyes and invaded his mouth with her slimy wet tongue, it brought about immediate arousal and her taste was far beyond enticing. When she let Rob take a breath the Parrot pulled his mouth over to hers and also kissed him in the same way. The beak wasn't too sharp and only pinched a little as their tongues danced for a few moments.

After the kiss Rob stood up straight in a slight daze. The two girls had their arms over each other looking at the bear with a great deal of desire, "You know we share a bed and there is just enough room for one more..."

Temptation swelled up inside Robert, especially behind the crotch of his grey cargo pants however his mind could not be taken away from his Tahiti lover.

Images of the sea otter flashed through his mind, seeing Leilani so freely swimming in the depths of the sea and gliding with great joy, almost as if she was flying. Her naked form standing on the shore after a swim, gleaming wet fur from head to toe on her perfect body looking at Rob with a smile. The raw passion that they shared in the hut, in the sea and on the shore has left a mark that could never be taken away.

"Any other day I would warm your bed loves but... I owe someone a great debt. I intend to repay that debt."

The bear bid farewell to the two enticing waitresses with reluctance and left the beach. Clenching the rucksack over his shoulder with his mind now focused on the task at hand, his attitude started to surface and his determination was now at its peak_. I will kill every shark that has tainted your paradise. One down, four to go._

Dock twelve. The Jasmine nested there with dock workers taking boxes to and from the large cargo ship. From the atmosphere it looked as if it was getting ready to cast off. The crane was powering down and the line of workers was getting thinner.

Rob stood on an empty neighbouring pier looking closely at his target through a pair of binoculars. He took a close look at the people on board and from his experience he could tell most if not all the people on board were military men, vigilant, proud and strong, far too disciplined to be your everyday sea men. None of them openly carried any firearms, most likely to avoid getting any extra attention. They kept a close eye on each worker that set foot aboard their ship so sneaking on board disguised as one would not be the best idea however Rob expected that would be the case. He had his eye on another point of entry.

There were a variety of different species on board however there was only one that would catch his attention. He spotted the tiger shark standing on the balcony of the bridge overlooking the ship leaning against the rail, Garrett North. He wore simple clothes, a grubby white t shirt and cargo pants, similar to what everyone on board wore. He didn't give away his rank.

Then Rob spotted the bull shark coming out of the bridge joining Garrett on the balcony. It was the mystery Japanese man who recruited the other sharks. He wore the same as Garrett but Rob had noticed that the bull shark carried a Katana on his waist, Rob wondered if it was to display his authority, culture or if it was something more.

There was no sign of the hammerhead or the great white but he had little time to survey his objective. It looked like cast off was almost complete.

Rob turned around to the jeep parked behind him and started to get ready. He took off his shirt and threw it in the back along with his boots and binoculars. He picked up two sheathed fighting knives and strapped them to the waistline of his black cargo pants. They were double edge blades with a leather handle. The metal pommel was in a sleek shape and the scabbard is made of black leather. They are exemplary knives and had served Rob well in the field of battle.

He had no firearms that were waterproof so if push came to shove he would have to find a gun on board. There had to be some.

He took the rucksack of explosives and strapped it over his shoulder tight. He walked to the end of the pier and dove into the water.

He swam as hard and as fast as he could, eyes fixed on one part of the ship where he saw his entry. The Anchor, when they cast off the chain will be pulled up mechanically and he could ride that to reaching distance of the main deck.

The horn sounded from the ship and the polar bear tried to pick up the pace and push his limits. His breath was not able to catch up with his pace so he had to hold it in. If it wasn't for all those times diving with the beautiful otter this would have been a real struggle but it felt like nothing more than a hard jog.

With some surprise he felt his paw touch metal and he was at the base of the ship already. He could feel the engines revving in the water and then the anchor chain started to pull up. He had to wait until the anchor was at his feet or he would risk getting his arm crushed in the mechanism. That would certainly put this rescue attempt to shame.

Rob grasped the chain at just the right moment and he was pulled out of the water. He held on tight and tried to balance his bare white feet on the anchor but everything was slippery, one wrong move and he would fall. He kept his eyes up to the deck as it drew nearer. When he was confident enough he made a strong leap up and grasped the edge of the deck.

He pulled himself up slightly to peek over to see if anyone was there. He suddenly heard voices drawing nearer and dropped down, dangling lazily from the deck. The voices became clear, it sounded like two men holding a conversation just above Rob and his exposed claws. He held his breath and prayed they didn't look down.

"I tell you that room was a complete mess! When James saw it he puked up a week's worth of chow!"

"Shit. I haven't seen Adam that pissed since he found out Sam got killed. What do you think is going to happen with Hyde?"

Rob could see the two men's feet peeking over the edge and two flies zipping down. Oh no. Rob holds his breath and closes his eyes as they unwittingly release their bladders on the polar bear. Wish I could say this has never happened to me before.

"I dunno. Usually Hyde's behaviour gets overlooked but killing that girl like that on the ship is something that cannot be swept under the rug. None of the other guys are comfortable around him anymore."

Rob's heart lurched. Girl... no... it can't be...

"I know. He has been a lot worse since Sam's death. He has been taking it out on everyone. What did you do with the body by the way?"

"We had to lock it up in the freezer. Can't go dumping it off the boat while we are docked. Once we are far enough from shore we send it overboard. The sea will eat her up pretty quickly."

"That is a shame. Not every day you see a girl that gorgeous."

The two men shake off the last drops and zip back up continuing to talk as they left. Rob hung on there for a few moments feeling like his soul had just turned a shade darker. Am I too late?

The foghorn howled the polar bear back to his senses and he took one final peek to see if the coast was clear and pulled himself up and onto the deck as the ship started to move.

Rob kept low and his attention on his surroundings. He stood in the shadow of the bridge at the very tip of the ship. There were few guards on deck however it was impossible to determine just how many were on board altogether. He put his back to the wall peeking around the corner watching the males patrol and started to think on his next move.

I must find out if the girl that was killed truly is Leilani. Before that I have to arm the bombs. If the body is hers than I will see it buried back at her home. No... No... don't start thinking morbidly Rob. You have to focus. You still don't know if it is her.

Rob had four bombs. One for the fuel, one for the lower deck so the ship could flood, one for the engine room and one for the bridge. This ship was huge so avoiding detection should be pretty easy. He had to set the timers perfectly so they all go off at once but even the best laid plans go array. He would have to keep an eye on his trusty waterproof watch after her set each bomb.

Three bombs set, one to go. Rob had done well to avoid detection so far. He ran into a couple of guards but he dispatched them quickly and hid their unconscious bodies in good places, one in a cot and the other in a locker. He caught no scent of the sea otter while on board, he even refreshed the scent with her sarong that he kept in his pocket but there was nothing. He would try to reach the freezer but the only way to get to it was through the canteen and it was packed with guards.

Hope for his lover started to dwindle. Once he placed the last bomb he would have to chance the freezer, take one of the bigger guard's clothes and try to walk through in plain sight.

He climbed up to the bridge exterior and hid below one of the windows. The polar bear slyly peeked in. The bull shark and the tiger shark were still there but there attention was on the paper charts laid out on the table.

Then he spotted another male come in, the hideous hammerhead... Hyde Carter. Hyde had a collection of scars covering his face and coupled with his hard athletic build it clearly showed he wasn't a being to be messed with. Hyde spoke in a deep grotty voice, "You asked for me commander... Jesus everywhere on this ship smells like piss." Rob shakes his head and takes a quick sniff of the fur on his shoulder. After this I am going to take the longest hottest shower in the history of bathing.

The Japanese bull shark shot him a heated glare then Garrett spoke, "You killed that poor girl Hyde. We gave you explicit orders not to harm her. Adam doesn't even want to look you in the eye."

"Hey... you brought that broad on board for my entertainment. I just got a little carried away..." there was no remorse from him in fact he seemed pleased.

"We brought her on board to keep you distracted!"

"What can I say? I have a short attention span..."

"I am only going to give you one warning. If I catch you laying one finger on the sea otter I will gut you."

"I would love to see you try... North," he pulls a knife from his waist and licks the blade. He wasn't threatened by Garrett in the slightest but then the sudden outburst from the bull shark caught his attention.

The Japanese shark shouted out a few words in his foreign dialogue and the hammerhead seemed to submit. If he wasn't threatened by the Garrett he certainly was by him.

Garrett continued, "We will keep her alive until we return to that island, and unspoiled! You may be a monster Hyde but the rest of us are not! We brought that whore on board to keep your dick and your teeth away from that girl and now that you have killed her you are just going to have to make do with your hands! Guards!"

Two male mammals quickly march into the bridge, "See that Hyde remains in his quarters until I say otherwise... and make damn sure he stays the hell away from the captain's cabin!"

The captain's cabin, I've got you love.

Hyde's face was filled with white hot fury, scowling at Garrett with eyes of death. If the opportunity presented itself he would have killed the tiger shark right then and there. Was it the bull shark's presence that kept him at bay? He turned around and stormed off with an infuriated growl, the guards followed closely.

After a couple of minutes Rob heard the bull shark speak again in his language and Garrett replied, "I seriously thought if he was occupied he would stay out of trouble. It usually works but his bastard brother's death has him in all tangled up. He is certainly crazier than usual."

The bull spoke again with what sounded like a question.

"I am sure he will try something. When Adam calms down I will have him talk to Hyde. He is the last person he truly listens to now."

The last two sharks exit the bridge and head down to the main deck. With the bridge bare Rob sneaks in through the door and takes the rucksack off his shoulder and slides it into an empty cupboard beneath a set of controls. He sets the bomb and looks at his wristwatch. The bombs may be off sync a little. I have half an hour left. This will be cutting it fine.

A map of the ship was displayed in the room but it was written completely in Japanese. Thankfully some of the rooms were penned in, in English. He quickly searches for the cabin but he could not find it in English.Shit.

Rob was going to have to go with his gut on this one along with the scent of his beloved island girl. He pulls the sarong out of his pocket. Even though it was damp and he had been carrying it for days her scent was still faintly there. He brings it to his black wet nose and inhales as deeply as he could.

He takes it away and takes another deep breath through his nostrils.

His eyes widen and a glitter of hope shines through. I've got your scent... I'm coming love.
