Ms. Daywaters is a strange teacher. She understands teenagers' social tendencies, and lets a lot of things slide that wouldn't even begin to be okay in normal society. Like beating the crap out of Tanner. She got that, and actually said he deserved it. Later, she said that to celebrate the beginning of spring, she'd be hosting a field trip to a theme park. Purely for educational purposes, of course.

Obviously, me and Alex signed up, and since she only let in students who were in her classes, Ted tried talking her into letting Daniel join, and she said he was in one of her afternoon classes. Apparently, Daniel's really childish and emotional inside, judging by the fact that almost all his art involves childish things like Calvin and Hobbes, How to Train Your Dragon, and a lot of fucking blindingly bright colors. It's cute in a really sad way, and no one knows why it's so sad. It just is.

Of course, you had to pay to go to the park, and Ted's parents eagerly paid for his, and Daniel had a credit card- seriously, apparently his family's like the one percent of the one percent or something crazy. Alex was afraid he couldn't go, when my parents splurged and paid for both of us. He nearly broke down into tears when he found out.

There were only twelve students at the park, and Ms. Daywaters and the bus driver were the only adults with us. Of course, Ms. Daywaters is truly the best teacher, so she didn't need to struggle with anyone for respect or power. Like the Astronomy tour, we had to cut out our other classes and go on a week day, but in this case she said it was more a matter of the lines, than anything else.

The day began with us setting down blankets on a huge grassy hill, which reminded a lot of a water park I'd gone to... once. And it sucked ass because I couldn't go on any of the water rides or anything I might have to expose my hands, feet, or head to. This time was different. The massive parking lot had like ten cars in it, and apparently the green kept my pentagrams from looking so... satanic. After we set out the blankets, Daywaters went over the rules.

"So, everyone listen up. If you want food, you're paying for it. We already explained it for the week leading up to this, so if you didn't bring any money, then maybe you can get help from a friend." I noticed Alex cringe when she said that, and I wrapped my arm around him. I may have forgotten to mention the fifty in my pocket.

"Also, no drinks on the bus. That shouldn't matter for like five or six hours, but still. Just a heads up. Uhh... Actually that's it. At four thirty, we meet back here, and head back to the school. Any questions?"

"So, if we don't have any money, we need to ask for some from a friend?" [Alex]

"Right. Any other questions?"

I turned my head and whispered in Alex's ear, "Hey, don't worry. I got a fifty, and that's way more than we need."

He blushed and leaned his head on mine.

"Are water rides off limits?" Garrick was an otter like Ted, but had way more colors. He was mostly blue, with bright green and gold lines racing up and down his arms and legs and around his head. It was a little annoying.

"If you don't have a swim suit, yes." [Ms. Daywaters]

"So, are we allowed to take off our shirts for rides that we can get totally soaked on?" [Ted]

"Yeah, but you need to have it for when we leave at five. That it? ... Good! Go on, and enjoy the park." Everyone scattered. Seriously, in like ten seconds we couldn't even see the hill, and the three of us were blindly following Ted. He led us to a large wooden roller coaster at the back of the park.

"Hear we are! The best ride in the park! The Oaken Blade!"

"Uh, how about we go on something... lighter?" [Alex]

"What, you're not afraid of roller coasters, are you?"

"No... I just... Don't like heights."

"Aw, Alex. It's okay. If these things weren't safe, people wouldn't ride them." [Me]

"No, they'd still ride them." [Daniel]

"Oh, that's encouraging." [Alex]

"Daniel, shut up. Alex, it's fine. Come on, I'll hold your hand if you want." [Me]

"Fine..." We went up the stairs to the entrance of the wooden coaster, and walked down the long path. There was actually a bit of a line, but it wasn't too many people. We waited through two iterations of the roller coaster before we managed to get on. The four of us took the front two seats, and Alex was cringing for when the coaster began.

The cart lurched forward, and the first thing it did was turn downward for a little momentum. I saw Alex kinda jump a little as it locked into the chains on the incline. I grabbed his wrist, and he frantically grabbed my hand, squeezing it. We rounded the first corner and Ted and Daniel raised their hands as the cart began to tip downward for the long, fifty foot drop. Alex tensed up, and clutched the handles in front of him. He shut his eyes tight, and we bolted through the whole coaster in under a two minutes.

We got off, and Alex looked really shaken up. He stumbled a little as we walked away from the coaster, and he just kinda crumbled as he sat down on a bench. I sat down next to him and put my arm around him.

"I... I... I can't even think." [Alex]

"Haven't you ever been on a roller coaster before?" [Daniel]

"Not really! I never really had any friends because my parents were so freaking religious, and they never really took me to parks. And the few times I have gone, they wanted me to stay close to them, so I had to go on the kid rides and stuff."

"Oh. So making you go on that roller coaster was a bad idea?" [Ted]

"No... Just, a little build up would've been nice."

"Well, there's other rides here. We could go on one of those if you wanted." [Me]

"Yeah, as long as they aren't as intense as that one."

* * *

You know those rides that are like a pendulum, and they swing back and forth, but the thing they're swinging is a spinning disk with passengers on it? Yeah...

"I'm not going on that!" [Alex]

"Oh, come on! This one's probably a lot safer than the wooden coaster." [Daniel]

"That's like a fourty foot fall!"

"Could be worse. We could try taking you on that one." Ted pointed to a ride that was nothing more than a tower. It raised you up, then dropped you to the bottom. Of course, it was a two hundred foot drop, so it lasted about half a minute.

"You're insane." [Alex]

"Heh heh heh, just a little." [Ted]

"Yeah, I'm not gonna go on that one either." [Me]

"But you'd go on this one, right?" [Daniel]

"Oh yeah, these things look like a lot of fun!"

"See, if Seth's gonna do it, than you should too!" [Ted]

"Fine... But only because Seth wants to. After this, I get to choose a ride." [Alex]

"Fair enough."

We waited in line for less than a minute, and the ride went by pretty quickly. Alex actually really liked it, so we went on it again. For a couple hours, we just persuaded him into going on rides like it, and we managed to coax him into going on a few of the bigger roller coasters. After a while, we finally got hungry, and decided to go get something to eat.

We sat down at a table with our food, and Daniel started trying to figure out what ride we should go on next.

"Well, there's always the water rides." [Ted]

"I don't have swim trunks." [Alex]

"Neither do I." [Me]

"No, not slides, actual rides. Like, as you go down, you get completely soaked in water." [Ted]

"Eh, I'd rather not get my shirt wet." [Daniel]

"Well you can take off your shirt. I don't think they'd mind, and I obviously wouldn't."

"Yeah, I wouldn't care." [Alex]

"So, I'm the only person who can't take off my shirt?" [Me]

"Why can't you take off your shirt?" [Daniel]

"'Cause he's too afraid to show off his cuteness." [Alex]

"You know the pentagrams on his face and stuff? Well, there's a really big one on his chest." [Ted]

"Oh. I don't think anyone's allowed to complain about that, since they're natural." [Daniel]

"But how would they know that?" [Me]

"We'd tell 'em."

"But... You can't just walk around telling people-"

"Seth, it'll be fine. Any ways, I'm curious what the blue and the green did to your chest." [Alex]

"Probably the same thing they did to my hands and feet."

"Don't you know?" [Daniel]

"He doesn't like to look at himself in the mirror. He's just paranoid everyone's gonna hate him." [Ted]

"'Cause they probably will." [Me]

"And if they act on it, I'll burn them alive." Alex held up the golden pocket watch and we all gave him a horrified look.

"You just carry that around?!" [Ted]

"What if you bump the button?!" [Me]

"That's the most dangerous thing you could have!" [Daniel]

"Why?"

"'Cause it could kill you!" [Me]

"Or anyone, for that matter!" [Daniel]

"But... Trust me, I'm fine." Alex slipped the volatile weapon back in his pocket and went back to eating.

"You're insane." [Ted]

"You know, I think you're officially more of a threat than me." [Daniel]

"I doubt that." [Alex]

"Is there any way you can make sure you don't bump the button?" [Me]

"Yeah, it has a lock on the inside, so it's fine."

"Okay... 'Cause I don't want you killing yourself with that thing."
