December's Hope

Merry Christmas! :3

Here is a Christmas related inconsistent poem. I hope you enjoy it.

The pure white snow descends upon the sinful town below,

Asphyxiated by heroin deals and welfare checks.

Where many are cursed without a face and a vacant path ahead,

While others huddle around the fireplace, befriending gin and razors.

Yet, as the snow lands upon the dreary terrain,

Faces grow upon the faceless

And desolate feelings are poured down the toxic drain.

Lights shine upon the alley ways and the singing drifts through the streets.

Though it's not the dim green and red lights haphazardly placed on doors of businesses,

It's the light from inside us, filling our empty voids in our chests.

Though it's not the hogwash tunes that is irrelevantly played at the local store,

It's the singing of families who reconnected their once raveling roots.

Parents happily watch their children shouting with glee,

Watching innocent Christmas specials and decorating the tree.

Religious communities influx, the church pews poured

Merrily singing hymns about the birth of the Lord.

The smothering smog that concealed this town, uncertain

Now opened up like a stage red curtain.

What was once savagely shackled by shades of gray and blue,

Now is held tightly by Hope's arms, slowly letting these empty people feel anew.

However as the month of December fades from existence,

The clear glass acquires its first stain.

Hope's arms retract as old wounds resurface through the drunken streets.

The viciousness of Reality begins to gnaw at the back of our heads.

Blue and gray dust-like particles descends upon the hopeful town below,

Free from heroin deals and welfare checks.
