Episode 2: The Gift

Chapter 0, Page 0

Chris grumbled and cursed under his breath, "...stupid Tom...piece of shit...who needs him..." and then he realized his own question and sighed, "...I do..." he kept walking through the streets of the city.

"Why is he such an asshole?" he shook his head, "We used to be best friends! But now he's a jackass who is stubborn and doesn't know how to be a person! It's like talking to a brick wall! You get nowhere and it's almost impossible to break through without the necessary tools! And what are those tools?" he clenched his fists, "Those tools break the wall and make it realize something! But then again..." he imagined putting a hole in the wall, "That'd mean putting a hole is his heart, too. He's stubborn, and strong, but if I could break his heart, he'd be miserable. Absolutely miserable... mostly because he'd be turned down and thrown aside. That's never really happened to him before..."

He threw a hood over his head as it began to rain.

Chris kept walking, thinking, wondering how he would be able to pay Tom his rent this following month. He didn't feel like doing it- ever again. But he had to in order to have a roof over his head and a person to hang out with. Although they were the worst of friends.

He was considering waiting for the championships to start again, but it'd take too long before he had to pay him again. It'd be actually a week short... and then another month of rounds and then after a month and a half he'd be in the finals. Too long, indeed.

Before he could come up with a better solution, he heard the sound of running through puddles of water, the pitter-patter of sprinting through the rain, he looked up to see a dragon just like Chris! It was a chubby red dragon, but different outfit, it just looked exactly like him. The twin saw the original's face after he looked up to see the commotion, he jumped over to him and handed him something in a red and gold chest, and a key on a string around his neck, he handed him all of it, "Take this and make Tom smash it out of existence! DON'T OPEN IT!!! AGAIN, DO NOT OPEN IT!!! He'll get the message, just do it!"

Chris was in shock, "Wait, who-" but before he could finish, the second he blinked, the twin was gone.

He looked down at it, "What the hell is this thing?"

Thinking about what he had said, about Tom, he ran home right away.

He opened the door, yelling out for Tom, "Hey, Tom! I got something for you...!" he shut the door, removing his shoes and walking into the apartment. He sighed after no response, "TOM?" This time he got the roommate's attention.

Tom entered the room, "Oh, you came back. I thought you'd be gone for good, this time."

He shook his head, "You really pissed me off." he showed him the box, "Some person wanted me to give this to you."

"What is it?" he walked up to him, taking the box and inspecting it, "What's inside?" he was about to open the box, until Chris grabbed a paw onto his arm, "Don't!"

Tom stopped, although Chris remembering it was locked, he didn't want to test it.

Chris sighed, "I was told to make sure it wasn't opened."

"Who gave this to you?" Tom asked, staring at Chris rather worryingly.

"Believe it or not," he shrugged, "he looked exactly like me. He had my voice, wearing a somewhat different outfit... had a few scars and bruises, and even had this belly of mine!" he rubbed his gut.

Tom cocked his head at the other, "...Right." he set the box onto the coffee table, "What am I supposed to do with it?"

Chris shrugged once more, "I was told to tell you to destroy it."

The raccoon held a paw onto the box, "What? Why? And how? This thing is pretty sturdy!" as it was made of a strange material, a cold one. Colder than ice.

"I don't know." he bent down and looked at it, "It's locked with this key." he showed him the key on the string.

Tom nodded his head, "I see... Should we open it? I can't break it, for sure. It won't serve any other use."

"NO!" he looked at Tom, "We don't know if some weird creature is in there!"

"What are we gonna do with it?" he picked it up again.

Chris thought. It was too strong to break with any modern tool or technology, or from anything available at the moment. He didn't want to open it although being told not to do so. They can't break it, even though that is what they were supposed to do... Chris had an idea, raising his head after it slumping in wonder, "How about until I see that man again, we just keep it with us! No unlocking and opening it, no destroying it (unless we find a way to) and no whatever... just let it sit until a solution is available. Alright?"

Tom shrugged, "Sounds fine with me. I have a bad feeling about this though." he twitched suddenly, "...something..."

"What's wrong?" Chris asked.

"Nothing... I don't know..." he sighed, resting a paw onto the back of his neck, "I got this heavy case of deja vu, but only for a second..."
