#2 of Dragon's Embrace

(Saki)

"I apologize I didn't mean to hear those thoughts." I said as my face flushed. Jacob smiled warmly at me and said "I don't mind as long as you don't do it on purpose." I nodded and then moved to the side a bit so I could turn to face Jacob.

"Well thanks to that little accident with the wolf yesterday I'm sure the Alpha knows I'm a telekinetic. He might know about my telethapy as well so no sense in pretending that I'm anything more then a freak." I said the last word quietly as if it was a curse.

Jacob moved like he was going to hug me but stopped and stiffened his head turning towards the door before getting up to unlock it. I meanwhile made sure I wasn't hearing anything that I shouldn't be. Jacob stepped back and A wolf that didn't look much older then Jacob stepped into the room.

Power seeped from him and I felt my sense of caution return to me. _ I had better tread lightly around this one. _I thought to myself before rising to my feet as Jacob made introductions. "Saki this is the Alpha Harry Knox." his tone was respectful and ignoring the protest my body gave I politely bowed to the Alpha and then straightened up.

"A pleasure to meet you sir." I said doing my best to keep my tone level.

(Harry)

I breathed in deep and detected the scent of wariness from the boy as well as the scent of old blood. _ He doesn't look that impressive does he?" _ My wolf Harold said and I nodded. _ But he did throw Brian without even touching him. _ That made my wolf shiver and then nod in agreement.

"So your the one that made Brian go ass over teakettle?" I said watching and smelling for his reactions. "I did." he replied evenly and though I could tell it was hard for him to stand as his legs were beginning to tremble he still stood tall.

"What are you?"I asked and he winced at my words but it didn't take him long to reply. "I'm a Telepath and A Telekinetic." I frowned as those words made no sense to me. "I can read your mind and move objects with my mind. But only if I choose to do so." he said and once I heard him I gave him a funny look.

"Are you trying to pull a fast one on me?" I asked testily. Saki raised an eyebrow and said "So you really want to play this game? Very well then, Then name of your wolf is Harold and you are 18 years old. You have lived here all your life and you keep a stash of dirty magazines under your mattress." He rattled off these facts as if he was reading a book and while Jacob was doing his best not to snort into laughter from the corner my face flushed red. After he finished speaking he rubbed his forehead and I felt the sensation of something being withdrawn from my mind. Harold attempted to grab it but was shoved away from it leaving a small scuff in the dirt of my mindscape.

"How did you?" I sputtered "I told you Alpha I'm a Telepath. Your mind is an open book I can see into at will." "So what was it that Harold tried to bite just now." "The tendril I was using to read your mind." Despite his actions I was starting to respect the younger boy.

"What is your purpose here?" I asked and he said "I guess to rest and recover. " I nodded at this and said "Recover from what? I can smell the old blood on you." "I was born and raised in a lab about ten miles from this town in a nearby woods. They tortured me daily and constantly experimented on my body. I had my very bloody revenge yesterday and escaped. Bruises cover every inch of my body from what they did today and if weren't for my powers I'm sure my mind would be nothing more then a shattered empty shell."

Talking of such things left him shaken and I got the feeling that Jacob was itching to comfort him so I made my exit saying "You may stay here until you feel you need to go. Welcome to the Pack." Once outside I began to jog down the street intending to tell my dad about the meeting.

I had only recently became Alpha two months ago but I did the best I could to be fair with my pack. I hoped that Saki would find peace here but I would make sure to keep an eye on him as something didn't feel quite right with the white haired boy.

(Saki)

Once the Alpha was gone I hastily set back down with a groan. "Ugg that is one strong mind. Possibly the strongest one I ever had to hack." I said not realizing I was speaking aloud until I felt Jacob's arms around me and heard him say "Hack?" "It's the term I use to explain how I gain access to someone's mind." I explained as I took comfort in the hug.

_ You have barley know him for twenty four hours and already your letting him comfort you? _I found myself thinking but was able to brush the thought away easily as the blue dragon finally released me. I got up off the couch and said "You should get back to sleep. If it's ok with you I think I'll meditate out here while you sleep. I need to get some things under control."

Jacob didn't object just slipped underneath his cover's and I could feel his eyes on me as got comfortable in my meditation stance. I felt his eyes on me as he waited to drift to sleep and I did my best to ignore it as I went to work on the second mind block the pet psychic had placed.

Soon the outside world became a distant hum as I focused deeper upon my work. "_ This is quite complex. The last one was nothing compared to this. _I carefully probed every inch checking for traps and finding a few. I disarmed those and then went deeper looking for the first sequence I had to key into the block in order to gain access to it's deeper layers.

I began to tire as I worked to decipher the sequence and after I found it and keyed it in I took a small break to recover panting slightly as I did so. Once I recovered a bit I got to work on the next layer and it took me at least two hours of ceaseless hacking to find the sequence and dissolve this layer.

My energy was really low by now and as badly as I wanted to pass out I didn't want this block to be left in my mind as it would be an easy way for me to be tracked by the lab. With grim determination I tackled the last block. This one took me four hours and left me completely exhausted once I finished I reclined against the couch panting like I had just finished a marathon. Even though it was never my intention to do such within moments I was asleep as I rested against the couch.

I didn't move until I heard Jacob stirring behind me and even then I didn't want too. Still I forced myself to become fully conscious and I carefully stood. He glanced at me as I stood up and then asked. "I'm not trying to insult you but what's your level of education? Did they teach you anything in the lab?"

I shook my head. "No they didn't. I only know how to read and write. That's as far as my education goes." He nodded and replied "Well you can certiantly speak well enough." I chuckled and said "Hard not to pick up a few things when your around all those scientific minds." He nodded at my words and then moved to his bedroom to get dressed I assumed.

I watched him go and then jumped about a foot when I heard a polite cough behind me. Once my heart settled back into it's proper place I turned to see a green dragoness that looked like she was trying very hard not to laugh at my sudden fright.

Guessing that she owned the house here I said "Thank you for letting me stay here." and bowed to her politely. She nodded at me and said "It's no trouble." Then Jacob re-emerged from the bedroom and said "I wonder if you could take the GED classes at the school."

I replied "I don't have anyway to pay for it." Jacob seemed to think for a bit and then said. "I'll take you down to financial aid and then get to class." He kissed who I assumed was his Mom on the cheek and then led the way outside with me following him.

An easy silence was between us as we headed outside. I was suprised I was able to keep up with the weredragon but I suspected he was holding back his pace for my benefit.

"So will the administration be used to seeing a human walk around?" I asked uncomfortably aware that I still probably smelled like old blood and looked horribly out of place. Jacob seemed to think on that for a bit and then replied

"Well... Your kinda encouraged to stay in your were form here. Only weres are in this town so while it is uncommon to see someone out of their were form it is not frowned upon. Most would assume that you just prefer your human form."

"Until someone causes trouble and seemingly gets attacked by ghosts." I muttered darkly. "What you don't trust the school?" "The school is fine. Lets say I have a lack of faith in people. With notable exceptions." At my last words I looked at him pointedly.

Jacob flushed and his tail wagged behind him moving so fast it was a blur. "Um thanks" he said

(Jacob)

_ So he trusts _ me I thought to myself and heard Joshua say "_ Well considering all the hell you and my brother have gone through I think its about time someone trusted you. _ Joshua's words only made my blush deeper. I glanced at Saki and saw a smile on his face as he watched me.

I faced forward and then I heard Monroe stirring within his part of the body. Monroe had blue scales and unfortunately do to the poison within him much of the scales on his body were grimy and dull looking. He began to bite a nearby log as another poison spasm rocked his body.

Both Joshua and I watched him worriedly as the spasm subsided and he just managed to release the log before passing out again. A hand on my paw startled me and I looked to see Saki watching me with concern.

"What happened? Are Joshua and Monroe ok?" He asked me. I nodded and then asked "How did you know?" Saki looked uncomfortable but said "I just guessed. You looked like you were watching something pretty bad. Since my abilities are recovering and muted I hope everything is ok in there." His tone held the right notes of concern and kindness.

I couldn't question his tone or his intent he was being a hundred percent genuine. "_ Yet he is a Mind Reader. Even if Monroe says this is our mate how do I know that I'm not being manipulated? _ A sharp slap that rocked my head back courtesy of Joshua made me rub my jaw in irritation as I looked at the elder dragon.

_ That was for thinking like that. Never doubt your feelings and my brother even though he is weak would still recognize his mate. _ I nodded seeing that Joshua had went to go tend to his brother while I realized that we were a few blocks from the school.

Saki appeared not to have picked up on my mental conversation and then I reminded myself that of course he couldn't if he was suppressing his powers. The silence between us however was golden as it allowed me to collect my thoughts.

Saki stayed quite and judging from the look in his eyes he was sorting through a few things as well. The last few blocks to school passed quickly and once we were at the building I said. "Might be a good idea to keep your telethapy suppressed here."

Saki replied "I will. Besides it's not like I'll run into any trouble here. I have no reason to keep my abilities active." So we wove out way through various weres until we made it to Financial aid. I left Saki to fill out some forms and headed to my classes.

I was taking culinary arts and wood working. I found both classes enjoyable and so when I got into cooking class I already went to the back to warm my oven and looked at the board before pulling out ingredients for some sweet potato casserole.

The teacher was a rabbit that Ironically hated carrots. The class passed quickly and when I was done with my casserole I covered it in foil intending to bring it home for my mom. I moved it to the fridge and then headed for my wood working class.

On the way there I briefly wondered how Saki was doing before I got to class and got back to work on the sculpture of Monroe that I had been working on for quite some time.

This sculpture showed Monroe how he would have been if the poison had never affected him. I had taken great care as I carved each centimeter. As I carved my mind turned to the events that had left Monroe weakened.

_ FLASHBACK _

Some poachers had caught me transforming and had decided to hunt me down. Out of greed or fear I don't know. I was in the woods and had thought I was all alone when I shifted to my dragon form. So when the tranquilizer dart nearly missed my neck I yelped and began to run not even thinking about flying.

Monroe who was fully awake at this time helped me by warning of approaching projectiles. I ran until my feet felt like they were bleeding and seeing a cave I ducked inside it and got as far back as I could from the entrance. This proved to be the biggest mistake of my life becuase my dear friend the poacher threw in a grenade full of poison gas and plugged the entrance.

I held my breathe as long as I could but the obnoxious green fumes soon had my eyes watering and the lack of oxygen was making my head swim so I took a breathe and instantly began coughing and retching my scales began to look diseased and Monroe within my mindscape fell into spasms as the poison affected us both.

I blacked out and I didn't wake until I found my brother in front of me and the air of the cavern was clear of poison. I was near death only a few threads tying me to life when my brother began to glow bright blue and transferred his life energy to me as well as his dragon.

Joshua even though he was knew to my mindscape managed to find his brother and get him safely to the cave. He then diverted some of the life stream from my brother into Monroe. As my brother grew weaker I grew stronger until with a shuddering gasp he died.

I cried for hours unable to move away from his body that had collapsed on me. Finally exhausted I fell into my mindscape and when I woke up I found Joshua holding me in his arms. I looked up at him and though he appeared healthy there was sadness in his eyes.

I hugged him not trusting myself to speak and he returned the hug with tears leaking from his eyes and then he took me to Monroe who was in his den. I was shocked at how weak Monroe was and I would have ran forward had Joshua not stopped me and said "He needs to rest. I couldn't remove all the poison from him. I don't know if anyone could. Your brother's dying wish was that I protect the both of you. and I will do that to the best of my ability."

END OF FLASHBACK

Joshua had kept his word over the years. No matter what I or Monroe faced he was constantly there to help us. Even when we moved here and the Alpha noticed I had two dragons instead of the usual one Joshua was able to stop things from escalating. While he had fronted to explain I had stayed with Monroe and looked after him the best I could.

I don't know if having my there with him helped the poor dragon any but he didn't say much as he was asleep. Most of the time he was asleep because of the poison but on the few occasions he was awake him and Joshua would talk for hours.

I didn't listen to the conversations though because it felt as if it was private. Besides Monroe knew were to find him if he needed to talk. I made sure to keep my bond strong over the years to the point that every time Monroe was over come with a poison spasm I would feel some of the pain in order to ease the burden off of him.

If he knew I was doing this he would yell at me for hours. I'm sure Joshua knew I was doing it but he didn't stop me. I think he knew I was doing this because I blamed myself for all of this happening. I counted the daily spasms of severe pain as my penance for getting cornered and my brother dying for saving me.

Carving was very relaxing to me as I carved it seemed as if my emotions guided my paws and flowed into the piece I was working on. The teacher was behind me as usual and just like usual I didn't notice until the bell rang. The sculpture was coming along well and I felt a small surge of pride before putting away my tools.

Then I turned around to see the teacher eyeing my sculpture critically. She was an owl and was well known for her constructive critique to her students so I waited for her opinion on the piece. She didn't say anything so after awhile I nodded to her and went to see how Saki was doing.
