#27 of Wolves' Legacy Saga

This is the 27th story of the Wolves' Legacy, enjoy!

Just for a note, this story is the proof that what happened in a story before is a different world with the same name, and of course, for you who have read my previous story (Hint: it has something to do with a black dragon), you'll understand that the name is something significant.

Enjoy, then!

His vision was blur, but he could clearly see a figure in the distant from the white background. Despite of the figure's color blending to white surroundings, he could clearly see the silver color of the werewolf. He knew the werewolf. He saw her slender, almost human body, her soft fur, her twitching ears, and especially, she gave him a perfect unclothed body. He thought he met an angel.

They drew close. They embraced each other as one. Staring into her silver eyes, he saw two moons watching him, a sense of lunar gaze staring straight through him into the heart. He circled his arms around her, putting her closer to his maw as he started to kiss her. He never could imagine something like that, but the feeling of his love to her was overwhelming that he started to find everything was real. As his long tongue pressed into her, he was in deep bliss.

Yet, everything changed when he heard a knock, and he woke up.

"(Was that...just a dream?)" He rubbed his head, trying to focus. "Seolfor, where..."

The mention of the name made Nergora jumped. He remembered. He knew the night when he was ambushed and spared one young hellhound from being frozen to death. He realized that he was leaving Seolfor's cabin and the next thing he remembered was collapsing in front of a brown furred Lycan or hellhound, he couldn't be sure. When he woke up, he was there, inside a room.

The room was full of equipment Nergora could identify as hunting equipment. He could also see a trophy made from a stuffed bear head and another was a stuffed deer head. He somehow realized that he was in a huntsman's hut, but couldn't grasp where he was.

As he tried to walk, he realized that he wasn't wearing anything on the top, and soon realized that his demon tail was also out from his pants. He quickly put it in as a human carrying a rifle and some pheasants on his back walked into the room. Nergora's senses quickly administered the hunter as a threat and grabbed a nearby bread knife to the hunter, who had no time to draw his rifle that was on his back. He was pressed to the wall behind him, knife on his throat. Nergora made a growl and said "What did you do to me, human? What am I doing here?"

"You should at least be grateful, man," said the hunter annoyed. "I helped clean up your wounds and the next thing you did you put a knife on my throat. Hey, is this even your style? Lycans use their claws, right? Like a wolf?"

"I don't care about that. What happened when I was unconscious?"

"Just get off me, Lycan! I have a dinner to make, and you are invited, whether you like it or not. You're not fit to even make a journey. I put your jacket and shirt over the cooker."

When Nergora released him, he was unsure if he could trust the hunter or not, but nevertheless, he just said, "Why should I trust you?"

"You're in my goddamn home! Are you thinking I am making my house a mess?"

"Well, it's kinda a mess from my view, but..."

"So stop complaining, young wolf, and take your jacket! I should've known Dusdolfians are assholes..."

The night was merrier than their first encounter. The hunter liked jokes that went down his beard, and Nergora could still understand a little about Adaline jokes. He also tried to understand surface people's way of humor that didn't include crushing a damned soul and throwing them into a fire. The hunter then told him around the territory. He pointed the ways to the nearest carriage station.

"So, you go past the forest to the main road, go left and walk all the way down to Summerville Forest Junction. There is a station on Carlton Road. Take one down and you'll find yourself a nice little town full of your kind. Oh, don't worry about the humans. They all like furry friends these days. Not a dog, of course," said the hunter while laughing.

As the day passed, the next morning saw the time when Nergora had to leave the hunter. He gave the hellhound his address near the road and wished him luck.

"So, happy hunting, Nergora."

"Yeah, you too, Jack. Thank you for the food."

Nergora parted ways with him. It felt very fast. He never thought he made another human friend who didn't know his past. He wished his stay was longer than expected, but he must keep travelling or he would endanger those he knew. He wondered how Sovarn was doing after leaving him with Seolfor. He must had stumbled on something along the way.

As he found the junction, he quickly noticed a weird being robed from the top to the bottom. From the legs he could see that it wasn't even a Lycan at all, but something more, yet he didn't know the race, but he could see that it was hellish from the glowing red eyes.

The station was mostly empty. The booth wasn't open yet the place wasn't in disrepair. There was a closed sign hanging on the booth, and there weren't anyone inside either. The place was like that, recently empty. But Nergora knew better, as should all Lycans and hellhounds. He knew there would be trouble with an empty station with a smell of thick blood. He was grateful Jack gave him back his sword, and he walked into the station with his sword unsheathed, yet the surprise came almost suddenly.

He wasn't walking into a trap. It was a shelter for the same hellish race he saw in the street. They were demon bats.

"(Oh, shit, it's the prince!)" exclaimed one. "(W-wait a second, Prince Nergora, it's not what you think it is)."

"(What the hell are you doing to the people in this station?! I know you lot have gone berserk and eat out the people here. So I'm asking you and I suggest you are being honest with me. Did you kill them?)"

"(No! We aren't feasting any humans! We're taking in our catch in the wood and got tangled in it and you came!)"

"(Not the best answer, bat. I'm giving you a chance to talk straight and you talk like that, you fucking piece of...)"

"(Nergora Schelkz, if you lay even your fingers to my companions I swear I'll suck your blood dry like a big momma! I have the authority here, hellhound!)"

The shout was strong enough to stop Nergora from cutting away the bats into chunks of ice. As he turned, he found the mysterious figure being another demon bat with glowing eyes, watching him from the door. The 'coat' that covered him was just his leather wings wrapping around his face and body. He improvised a cloak over his head to conceal his bat ears.

"(Tell me everything or I won't hesitate! Why are the demon bats roam around this world and why the fuck did you able to walk under direct sunlight like that?)"

"(Man, how long have you live up here? We're not vampires, you idiot! Bats are bats, what's the problem?)"

"(Yeah, only that you had perfect eyesight in exchange of your supersonic ears.)"

"(That's supersonic sound!)"

"(Oh, you ruined everything! Okay, straight to the main question. Why are you here? I assume you're the leader, so tell me what you know?)"

The demon bat leader then walked past the hellhound and walked to his back, where he quickly wrapped Nergora with his wings. Though Nergora knew his blood would be taken, he would try to think that the demon bat wasn't stupid enough to suck his blood.

"(My name is Krozani. I'm the former Duke of the small cave town called Gothen east from Drundas. The bats were expelled from their homeland because of the rebels trying to clean our communities from monarchy influence. The hellhounds weren't the only hellish race that revolt. The bats also did that and everything down in hell is like a complete mess)."

"(Yeah, but could you please stop hugging me?)"

Duke then released Nergora slowly and he lit a cigarette he was carrying in the pouch tied to his side. He just made a puff of smoke and scratched his chest, before saying, "(We are not here talking about history, alright? We put them all behind us. The problem, right now, is you)."

"(So what's the catch with me?)"

"(You're being targeted by an assassin, just like your brother. You both are the last heirs of the Schelkz monarch family ruling over Drundas, and he got a nasty grudge with the family. Do you know the name Rhynsa Vantwork?)"

Nergora knew the name, barely. He only knew it from Sovarn telling him his past of being the youngest general ever to serve Drundas' army, and that name stuck with him because the grey hellhound respected him, but last thing he knew, Rhynsa was killed.

"(Yeah, I know that name. He's dead before I was born)."

"(He's still alive and kickin', and he's trying to find you to exact his revenge over that 'dead' thing you said about him. You know, in my opinion, that hound sure is nuts. I mean, your family is a nice family and always help me in the past about land and rocks but what did they ever do wrong? They are innocent, and you too when you was a whelp. Well, I'm sorry, Nergora, but I think it's too hard for you to know that he's the one that was caring for Ifrit before they got separated.)"

This surprised Nergora to the point he was speechless. Rhynsa was trying to exact his revenge on both of them and he was Ifrit's guardian? That didn't make any sense for him.

"(Yeah, based on what you're thinking, this doesn't make sense. What would Ifrit ever do wrong to him? He's just a kid)."

"(And still one. He's still 18, for fucking sake!)"

"(Yeah....)"

"(Tell me, Krozani. Why are you trying to save me? We're hellhounds and we have been in conflict for almost 50 years. Is it because of my father?)"

Duke scratched his head, trying to find the best answer so as to not make the once royal monarch of the Drundas kingdom left with embarrassment, and as such, he contemplated to say "Have you flunked out your history lessons? The Fuzandres and the hellhounds had made peace 25 years ago."

"Fuzandres? That seems familiar. I read it..."

"It's Hordo for demon bats. You follow up quite well, Nergora. My companions don't understand English. I want to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"We want to follow you around, for safety. You know, since Rhynsa is a nice hellhound. All demons are not considered nice and thus only your kind which was the ancestors of the werewolves could roam freely in the streets, and I think Rhynsa suffers from this crisis. We don't want to kill him, but if he really is with the rebels, we won't hesitate, we'll promise you."

Nergora wasn't sure on how to say about this reaction. Sure, Duke was a nice demon bat, but, he just knew the historical fact and couldn't trust them until there was a proof that these bats could be trusted. Rhynsa could be their hostage, and he didn't want more enemies.

"(Anyway, where did you come from? The town is to the left of the road. There's only a huntsman's hut back on one road.)"

"(Oh, uhmm...I was unconscious and the next thing I knew, I was there, in Jack's home. I mean, I was attacked by some hellhounds at night. I forgot how long I fainted, and...)"

"(Did you see your savior?)"

"(I only saw brown furred wolf paws before I fainted.)"

"(Brown furred?!)"

Duke suddenly ran out and an explosion happened near their station. He turned to the source of the explosion and seemed to be aghast, before Nergora joined him and saw the fire, too.

"(They're burning the forest!)"

"(No, it's only him! Hey, protect Nergora at all cost! I'll go there and see what I can do!)"

"(What?! Who's him? Just let me come with you!)"

"(If you die, all of our fucking effort to find you is lost! Get your ass in the building. Krad, don't let him leave. All of you stay here!)"

"(W-wait, we can't lose you too, duke!)"

"(I'm the only one with a capability to stop that son of a bitch! Wish me a damn luck!)"

Duke started to open his wings and flew to the explosion site. He knew that explosion wasn't a luring device since Rhynsa wouldn't be that stupid to blow up a section of the forest just to draw Nergora's curiosity. As Duke had his genetically descended supersonic scream he could at least hold Rhynsa from getting to them.

But when he reached the place, he was surprised by the quick turn of event and its random property.

Just as he took a glimpse of a flash near the trees did Duke made a distraction by screaming to Rhynsa while he pushed Ifrit away from the path of the fire, which didn't explode. Duke knew the scream wasn't holding the explosion. The bullet hit the the ground near the oddly-shaped mobile home, and both Duke and Ifrit knew what the hellhound wanted.

"(He can't leave his past, Ifrit)," said Duke. "(You can't kill him. He's confused with who to trust)."

"(Who is he? And who the hell are you?)"

"(He's your guardian before you both got separated. As for me, I'm the Duke of the nearby cave from your home kingdom, Drundas. My name is Krozani. We are trying to find him and keep you out of harm. Do you recognize him?)"

"(Not in a lifetime, I'm not. I remember having a guardian, but she's not a hellhound, she's a...)" There suddenly was another gunshot, and both of them ran to the trees behind them. Ifrit found both Lilac and Albreich hid themselves behind a rock, with Sammael trying to intimidate Rhynsa and Eshdar took aim from behind a tree with his arrow. The black hellhound asked his dog to stand down, and Sammael did just that.

"(Okay, look, he knew he couldn't risk killing the others. He's targeting both you and that red fur over there)." He turned his head to face Eshdar, and said, "(Are you Eshdar Winsel? How can you even travel with an enemy prince?)"

"(Enemy?! What the hell are you talkin' about? The Winsel family cooperated with the Schelkz family for over 30 years!)"

"(I thought you two are fighting for Gothen)."

"(Are you seeing us on each other's throat? That convinced you?)"

"(Yeah, and get your ass over here, Winsel! How can you take aim on that angle?)"

Eshdar followed him as another gunshot was heard and the same tree the red hellhound was taking cover from was pierced by the bullet, meaning that the sniper was close. Eshdar could see the angle of the shot, and took aim to the position.

"(You're right, bat. He was out of my reach. I'm ready when you are)."

"(Fire immediately, motherfucker!)"

But after Eshdar released his arrow with searing speed and blazing head, it suddenly broke as another gunshot was heard. The same arrow fell near the car's engine and the three of them sighed in relief when the fire was extinguished when it reached land.

"(Well, he's one goddamn shot! My arrow is faster than normal ones and he still shot it. Shootin' an arrow needs skill and he just did that!)"

"(No..., it's normal for us)," said Duke. "(As I suspected)."

"(What)?"

"(There are rumors on a great shooter in Drundas, the one who could shoot a fast-moving bat between the eyes. The shooter was a hellhound, but when they defined the word 'shoot a fast-moving bat', I knew this would happen. It's forbidden for our race to be together intimately, but, there it is, a proof)."

"(I don't know what you're talking about, Krozani. What is Rhynsa?)"

"(He's the product of our failure in keeping culture right. Rhynsa Vantwork is not a hellhound, he's a hybrid. He's half bat and half hound, and this is what makes him as dangerous as hell)."
