#3 of Older Works

This is kind of a cool one -- my first attempt at a Choose Your Own Ending story. On the original submission, back in 2010, I asked the readers to vote on an ending. It was an interesting little experiment that I might have to try again sometime...

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! Stanley groaned as he was jolted awake by the sound of his blaring alarm clock. "Monday morning already..." he muttered reaching out to hit the switch that would stop the unbearable noise. The young deer buck forced himself up into a sitting position and reluctantly climbed out of bed. After getting dressed in his usual attire, jeans and a t-shirt, he started toward the bathroom to see how his antlers were coming in. Stanley had wanted antlers as big as his dad's, to him (and most deer anthros) they were a measure of his status. To him, they mattered even more than his looks or build (which were both pretty good by the way). The bathroom door was open, which was pretty weird since his older sister usually had control of it around this time. Stanley didn't think much of it though as he looked in the mirror and counted the number of points on his antlers, that were relatively large for his age. "Eight huh? Not bad at sixteen!" he said to himself as he looked at them with pride. Stanley's face suddenly turned to one of confusion and his ears began to swivel a little, something was off. The deer looked around for what he thought sounded a little like a feral mouse squeaking, but it couldn't be, the sound was much too quiet. So quiet in fact that even with his excellent hearing, Stanley could hardly pick it up. He shrugged and walked out of the room, it was probably nothing right? The buck made his way into the kitchen and grabbed a bagel that was still sitting in the toaster and took a bite. "That's odd... Its already cooled off." that was kind of weird, but then again, everything felt weird since his girlfriend Crystal had gone with her family to France to stay with some pen-pals or something like that. She had been gone for nearly two whole months and Stanley missed her a lot. She was supposed to get back sometime this month but he really didn't want to wait any longer to be with the cute fox-girl again. Stanley glanced over at the clock on the wall... 7:53. "Oh my god! I'm gonna be late!" Stanley snatched his keys off the counter, ran to his car, and sped down the street to his school. The ride there was pretty good. Traffic wasn't a problem, because Stanley was the only driver on the road. Parking wasn't bad either, because the only cars there were the teacher's. "Did we have the day off or somethin'?" Stanley muttered, "Man, I need to stop talking to myself..." Stan walked into the school and looked at the bulletin board that was hung up neatly in the hallway. It didn't say anything about a day off that day, in fact, it said there was a basketball game that night. Alright, now he was really confused, but maybe a visit to the principal's office would clear things up. Stanley walked down the hall and into the office. To his surprise, no one was there. This place was a ghost town. He walked over to the principal's desk and sat down, since there was no one around, he might as well snoop a bit and find out what was going on. As the young buck was shuffling through papers he felt something on his rear. The deer leapt up in surprise and whipped around to see what it was. Stanley gasped when what he saw was a third-of-an-inch tall wolf anthro that he knew as the principal. "Mr. Cambell... W-what happened to you!?" All Stanley got as a response was a series of squeaks. "Hold on sir, let me pick you up." the young 'giant' lowered his lowered his hand down to the undersized administrator, but at the wolf's small size, he actually had trouble climbing onto Stanley's furred finger. Stanley quickly lifted the principal up to his ear. "Stanley, be careful, you almost sat on me! Wait... how are you still big?" "What do you mean?" responded Stanley, confused. "Maybe you should ask your father, I think our city's resident inventor might have something to do with this." He was probably right, Stanley's father was an inventor with some pretty wild ideas that really didn't seem to make sense to anyone but the inventor himself. One of his latest ideas was a pill that could prevent a shrink-ray from working. But that didn't make much sense because there were no such thing as shrink-rays. Anyone who Stanley's father bragged too (including their neighbors, the Campbells) just laughed at most of his 'ground breaking' ideas. Maybe this time he was actually right. "I'm going to go talk to my dad... but I can't just leave you here so you can tag along in my shirt-pocket, okay?" Stanley dropped the small principal into his pocket and made his way to the exit. After arriving home, Stanley proceeded to gather the rest of his family, his parents simply climbed aboard the massive (to them) stag's hand. His sister however was a little resistant, so he simply picked her up between two fingers (he was really getting good at handling little people now, and kind of enjoying it). After collecting all three he held his father up to his ear. "It worked! It worked! Ha Ha Ha! And they called me crazy!" "Um... Dad, what's going on?" "Oh sorry son, got a little carried away there. Anyway, remember when I had the entire family take those vitamins yesterday? Well, they were actually those pills I was talking about, four different prototypes to be precise. Apparently, yours was the one that worked." "You tested experimental medication on us!?" Stanley was a little mad, but he was used to things like this. "Yes, but you're fine right? Okay, well, after you guys took those pills, I took my own shrinking device up to the park, set it on 'shrinkwave' and basically shrunk down everyone in the city." "You mean that shrink-ray of yours worked?" "Yes, did you doubt me?" "Sort of..." Stanley sighed, "Now, how do I return everyone to normal?" "It's easy, just take the device up to the park, which is the most central point in the city, and press the 'reverse' button." Stanley sighed again and started back toward his car.

After Stanley arrived at the park, he took his family and neighbor from his pocket and placed them all on the ground. He grabbed the device, which looked like a T.V. Remote and looked at the button. His brown fur stood on end as he...

... Pressed the large button labeled "Reverse". A small ball of light started forming at the front of the device, and without warning shot out in all directions forming an impossibly bright dome around the city. Stanley and the little ones around him, having been so close to the device, passed out from the strain the blast of energy caused on their bodies. "Wake up, wake up Stanley, come on son it's time to get up..." Stanley's eyes opened and to his relief saw his father squatting down next to him at the same size he always remembered him to be. "Whew... thank god it worked." Stanley's father offered him a hand and helped him to his feet. "Well... not exactly son." "Oh no..." Stanley looked around and quickly noticed that they weren't the same size they were... In fact, they were absolutely gigantic! Down below them stretched the entire countryside... at least, until it ended at a strange silver wall that seemed to go upwards for what seemed to be two-hundred feet tall, and that was in comparison to their current height! "W-w-what is all this..!" the young buck was practically in shock. "Son, it seems that the device didn't exactly return us to normal size..." "Well I can see that!" "Please Stanley, let me finish. It didn't return us to normal size, it shrunk us to a little less than a quarter of an inch tall." Stanley was more confused than he had ever been in his life. "But if we shrunk, how come we're standing on half the county!?" "Oh that's easy, it shrank too, just too a much smaller scale." "What about all the people in the city?" "They should be back in proportion with their homes and such." Stanley sat down, making sure not to smash anything of course. "Sorry, this is just a lot to take in..." "I imagine it would be champ, but at least you'll be spending a lot more time with your girlfriend from now on." "What!?" "Yeah, luckily her family didn't leave from the airport here or they would've shrunk too and we'd be in big trouble." Suddenly the face of a giant fox-girl appeared overhead and whispered "Hey guys, looks like my boyfriend is finally awake." she giggled a little and reached her monolithic finger down and, very gently, patted Stanley's tiny back. "Sorry honey, I hope you and your family don't mind living in one of my dad's petri-dishes for now." Stanley looked down at the tiny city next to him, "Wait, if that's the city, than where are we at?" "Oh, we're at my cousin's house. Don't worry you guys are going to love it here, And I hope your microscopic friends like it too!" Stanley looked back down at the city and smiled when he saw crowds of people filling the streets. He might not be the only 'giant' anymore, but he could still have just as much fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... Tossed the device back into his car. "You know... I think I like it like this way, yeah... look at me! I'm a freakin' god!" Stanley scooped up his family and held them close to his muzzle. "Listen Stanley," started his father, "don't let the power go to you head okay... son?" "Dad, between you performing experiments on me and the carnivore kids at school picking on me I've never been in control of my life... well, until now anyway." The normal sized titan climbed back into his car and set his new subjects down in the passenger seat. He watched them all start to panic and loved the fact that they were completely helpless, and all his. Stanley drove around town, heading to his friends' and neighbors' homes and gathering up the ones he wanted. When he was finished, he had a sizable collection of about sixty people. The deer god took them all back to his home and set them on the floor of his small laundry room and sat down in front of them with an eager look on his face. A few tried to run, but he had thought of that and made sure to block the crack under the door with a few well placed blankets. The little people that ran would be punished later, but for now Stanley was enjoying watching the obedient ones. Some attempted to please him with gestures like bowing, praying, things of that nature. While others were just sitting quietly, staring up at his humongous form. Stanley was on cloud nine, and it wouldn't end until Crystal and her family showed back up later that month. But that wouldn't be much of a problem, after all, it probably wouldn't take much to show them how much fun it was to rule over the now tiny residents of the city. Maybe it would be fun being in a group of gods, Zeus put up with it, and even if he didn't like it, he had the shrink-ray. Yep, this was going to be fun...
