Chapter 4

  • Ray Harper-

The train was moving, it had been about five minutes since it started to pull out of the station, and when Ray looked out of the window, he could just see the edge of the station disappearing behind more train cars.

"Going... Going... Gone." Aria said next to him.

They both looked out the window, the city passed by them at a now increasing speed. Hundreds of people on their way to work. The ones closer to the tracks though, would look up to see the Guardian train passing by. They would wave their hands in salute or tip their hats should they be wearing them.

"Well... We're off." Ray stated.

"Yeah... We are." Aria replied. She sat back down in the seat and leaned back... It would be quite a trip. "Might as well get comfortable?"

The last time Ray remembered he was on this trip to central, the trip would take somewhere around a day. So, late that night is most likely when they would be arriving at Central. Ray sat down next to Aria, he felt his pudgy belly. It Growled.

"How can you be hungry?" She scoffed. "You literally just had that burger less than an hour ago."

Ray sat up, just after sitting down. He went to the compartment door. "I'm going to get something from the dinner car... Want anything?" He asked Aria.

"Yeah... Just a little something. And... Might want to get something for him." She gestured to the sleeping Sheppard.

Ray nodded and left the compartment.

Now that the train was off, and most of the Guardians had settled down to a compartment. So it was easy to travel down the train's corridor without having to move around many Guardians. As Ray walked down the dinner car, he thought about all the adventures that would soon be upon them. The yearly warrior tournament, Strike missions, and the Defender operations... Those were just a few that he was exited for... And, being a second year Guardian, he could have a wider selection on where the Missions would be and who he would be fighting. It was the best part of being a Guardian in Training.

Ray made it to the dinner car. He opened the door to find a few other Guardians milling around near the ordering counter, most of them already had food of some type. Pizza, Burger, or a Vegetarian sandwich.

"Bleh..." When he looked at the Vegetarian sandwich.

A rather small orange and white cat was behind the counter, she looked over to Ray.

"Hey O'. What would yu' like to order?" She had a South Western kingdom accent. That little bit of a slur.

Ray snapped back to reality, "Yes... Umm... Two..." He remember the sleeping Sheppard. "Three slices of Pizza." He asked. She served him three slices. Ray handed her the money for the food, and started to make his way back to the compartment. He made his way past a few Guardians that were lingering in the dinner car. And into the corridor.

Aria was waiting for him at the compartment door to open it. She took the pizza and ate it happily. Ray put the extra slice next to the Sheppard... He though

"What if he's allergic to chess?" Ray asked with a grin.

"Well... More for you." Aria said back.

The ride continued for at least another four hours without event. A few Guardians walked by and they talked. But nothing to interesting... And they were nearing Central... The trip was almost over.

As Ray and Aria lay back the Sheppard showed signs of life again. He gave a little grunt in his sleep. And rolled over in his seat.

"He must tired to be sleeping for this long..." Aria commented. "He has to be... We haven't exactly been quiet for him." Ray replied.

The Sheppard moved again. A little more violently, not like a slow sleep move... He jumped a little. He opened his eyes.

His eyes startled Ray, and apparently Aria as well. They both jumped. With the Sheppard's eyes open, and his G.I hat no longer covering his face. His eyes, were a shockingly bright and vibrant gold color.

"Wha... Wait... What!?!" He looked around in desperation and confusion. "Where am I!?!" He was completely crazy Ray thought. But he and Aria stood up and raised their hands to try and calm the raging Sheppard. "It's OK... Calm down, you're on the train, remember?" Aria said slowly and calmly to the confused Sheppard.

"Train? What train!?!" The Sheppard was confused and panicking slightly.

"This guy is crazy." Ray whispered to Aria. But she ignored him and kept trying to calm the Sheppard. "It's OK. The train to Central." She said. "You're on it right now."

"Central... What's Central? Who are you?" He turned around and looked about the compartment. Almost looking for a sign of something.

"I'm Aria, my friend here is Ray." She said slowly and calmly. "Sup?" Ray said. Aria shot him a little look of, That's not helping.

"Aria... Ray..." The Sheppard repeated.

"And... What's your name?" Aria asked. She was obviously trying to defuse the Sheppard so that he would calm down.

"My name? My name... My name? I... ..." The Sheppard looked at them a look of semi confusion and terror on his face.

"I don't know."
