This is a short story I wrote a while back when I was bored, I noticed that I never uploaded it, so here you go. =V

"How long have we been wandering here for, Trey? This wouldn't have happened if we went back the way we came in." the dark wolf growled with annoyance, he didn't even look at his friend as the two of them walked through the unfamiliar path that may or may not lead them deeper into the woods.

"Look, I told you, we just have to keep moving in this direction and we'll eventually reach _something,_just be patient okay?" the other wolf replied, it seemed like hours ago when the pair got lost within the forest, it was Trey that suggested they go in this direction in hopes of finding the way out, as opposed to going back the way they came, and he couldn't help but feel guilty for that decision.

"You know what, screw this." the older wolf stopped in his tracks and threw his arms up in frustration, "You can keep going this way if you want, I'm heading back, I don't care!" he had been fuming for the past half an hour and he had eventually lost all patience, turning heel and walking in the opposite direction, prompting his friend to call out to him in surprise,

"H-hey, Sol! Don't go- look, I know I made a mistake, I'm sure we'll get out of here if we just keeping pushing on a... bit... longer..." it was no use; Sol was already a mere, tiny shape in the distant, leaving Trey standing there feeling rather upset.

"Fine... fine... be that way... stupid." Trey muttered under his breath before he took continued on his way, he walked and walked for about ten minutes, all the while feeling frustrated with his friend's impatience and angry with his own decisions and as time went on feeling less and less comfortable with leaving Sol out in these woods alone.

"It's going to get dark soon..." Trey looked up at the sky and saw that it was significantly darker in colour than it was when he and Sol first came here, _there's no point in feeling guilty over every little mistake in life, I have to go get him... and apologize,_Trey thought as he turned and began to sprint.

Nothing. Not a trace of another person in sight anywhere. Where could he have gone? Trey had been searching for a good hour or so, stopping every now and then to look in all directions for perhaps even a glimpse of Sol. Trey didn't even care about leaving at this point. He just wanted to see his friend again.

"Damnit... where the hell are you, Sol?" the wolf mumbled as he stopped to catch his breath, paws on both knees. The lupine fell to the ground feeling incredibly exhausted and drained, it was only then he realised how much he had been running in desperation, so much so that he did not care for his body. Trey spotted a huge fallen log next to him, on top of what seemed to be a hole of some kind, formed by the natural shape of the earth,

"Maybe I can rest in here for a bit..." the wolf said as he pushed the log aside with all his remaining strength, the hole he uncovered empty save for a bunch of dead leaves and twigs, without hesitating he stepped inside and pulled the log back over the hole, kneeling down as he did so to cover himself from the sky, before collapsing against the wall of the earth completely drained.

I'll just rest here for a little while, Trey thought as his eyelids drooped and closed.

Trey's eyes hot open as he sat away from the wall suddenly wide-awake, he didn't know what had caused him to do that but he immediately turned his gaze away from the darkness and towards the rather thin crack of horizontal light between the edge of the hole and bottom of the huge log, his heart lifted as he saw what looked like a pair of feet walking around,

_That must be Sol!_Trey thought excitedly, he was about to call out but was interrupted, overwhelmed by another voice, one that incredibly deep and intimidating,

"Well, well, what do we have here? Lost, are we?"

Trey could only throw his paws over his muzzle and watch in shock as more feet came into view; four, very large, blue, clawed feet approaching the smaller pair, and to Trey's horror he heard his friend's voice reply,

"N- no, I was just-... I...I was just about to leave, I was out exploring-"

"At this hour?" even though Trey couldn't see the other speaker, he could tell that they were grinning maliciously, "Don't lie to me, pup, unless my ears were deceiving me, I heard you calling out to someone- why, is there someone else with you...?"

"No! No, there isn't! Just leave me alo- h- hey! Wh- what are you do- S-stop!"

Still hidden from sight Trey's eyes widened as he saw the feet of the creature move towards Sol moments before watching his friend being lifted into the air and -he could only draw one conclusion out of this- being consumed alive.

And yet all Trey could do was watch in silence, too afraid to make any noise or make a move to prevent his friend's death, he merely sat there in the darkness, a single tear falling from his eyes, even after the departure of the four-legged predator. After what felt like hours Trey finally gathered the strength and courage to push the log aside and free himself from the hole.

"This... this wasn't supposed to happen..." Trey said to himself, "Oh, God... wh- what have I done...? S- Sol... I'm so sorry...!" the wolf collapsed onto the ground on his knees and cried, and as if the sky sympathised with him it began to rain rather heavily, drenching the wolf from head to toe, but he did not care.

He probably hates me, he thought, I never got to apologise to him... Sol, I'm... I'm-

"Well, it's about time you showed yourself, pup."

Trey turned, tears and rainwater still trickling down his face fur, though it was impossible to determine which was which, and he saw where the voice was coming from, the same creature that had devoured Sol, a huge, blue dragon, towering over the devastated lupine, his facial features partly hidden by shadow, until he lowered his muzzle to Trey's level,

"Y- You ate him..." was all Trey could whimper in reply.

"That's right. What else does one do with food? He seemed adamant on protecting you though, he said that there wasn't anyone else with him!" the dragon chuckled, and it only made Trey feel, is possible, even worse.

"Now... why don't I reunite you two, it's what you want, right?" the predator asked and before Trey could object, that muzzle opened up in front of him, revealing rows of large, sharp teeth, flesh, saliva and nothing but pure darkness.

"Aahh- ahhhh!! N-nooo, d-don't, please!" Trey begged, but his cries fell on deaf ears and he was immediately swallowed by the darkness and warmth...

Trey opened his eyes and for a while saw nothing but darkness, then the scene shifted before him and he found himself sitting against something in what seemed to be a cavern. He was alive, his fur was dry, and he did not remember how he got there... the young wolf turned in confusion and saw, much to his surprise, his friend lying next to him alive and well, the older wolf was also curled up and was snoozing rather peacefully. Trey felt movement behind him and quickly discovered that he had been sleeping against the body of the beast that had supposedly devoured them both; the dragon gave him a soft smile and simply said,

"I said I was going to reunite you, didn't I?"
