"Hey mom, do you think I can go out tonight?" I asked politely.

"Of course you can Renny dear, but why are you asking?"

"Well... I'm going to miss out on the Walking Dead tonight because of it, and I just wanted to make sure you're okay with that."

"Why wouldn't I be okay with it? I'm taping it for your father anyways, so you both can watch it later."

"I don't know I just feel bad leaving you here alone with Connor..."

Connor was my little brother, only 4 years old... Needless to say he was a rather 'unexpected' addition to our family. It's not all that bad though, my parents had me at the age of 18, so they were only 32 when he was born.

"Don't worry about me, you go have fun! Just don't talk to anyone unless they scan a cutie male!"

"You know that's a difficult thing to do mom..."

"I know hun, stay safe."

"Will do. Bye mom."

About 2 years ago, everyone in the city had to have surgery on their eyes to install a retinal scanner. The scanner helps to ensure that someone isn't lying about being a cutie or sexy. The way it works is if someone looks into your eyes, their retinal scanner will scan your eyes. Your retinal scanner will relay your information to the person scanning you and vice versa. All of this is done within mere milliseconds of eye contact. If your eyes are the same characteristic as the person looking at you, the scanner will send a little electrical impulse through their brain triggering a sense of calmness. If you don't match the person, their scanner will send a different impulse through their brain triggering a sense of panic, until they look away.

It was 7:54pm. I'm going to be late. Tom Hooters bakery is a 10 minute walk from my house. I don't really care though; this guy could be sending me to the bakery alone to waste my time.

Tom Hooter is a Strigiformes Sapien, an owl humanoid, who owns a popular bakery chain in our city. The chain is mostly a coffee, tea, and sweets type of bakery, but you can also buy a wide variety of food ranging from pizza to pasta.

Upon entering the bakery, I scanned around searching for a blue furred creature. It looked to me as if he wasn't here yet, and since I was here, I might as well buy something. I walked up to the order window and asked, "Can I have a medium Caramel Macchiato and a maple bar please."

The screen read: "$3.14"

I took out my debit card and tapped it against the screen.

The new system of ordering was implemented 3 years ago for part-time staff under the age of 20. The kitchen and counters were completely sealed off, except for a 5"x 5" ordering hole to talk through and a 10" x 10" food hole. The constant panic of making eye contact with strangers puts a lot of stress on the part-time staff.

I turned and looked around the bakery. There were roughly 11 people in the shop, but none of them looked like they had blue fur. I sighed and looked down at my phone: 8:13pm. He stood me up... As much as you can stand up someone you don't really know. When I looked back up, a man in the far corner of the bakery with a hoodie over his head was looking over at me. I made eye contact with him and immediately felt panicked. I looked away from his eyes, down at his chest, and noticed 2 blue lines under his eye. It was him; waiting for me in the corner of the bakery. The panic slowly subsided, but a sudden jolt of fear took its place. This was so illegal... If we get caught we're as good as dead. I picked up my drink and treat and slowly walked over to him while looking only at the table. I went to sit in front of him but he interrupted me before I sat down.

"I'm sorry, but that seat is taken."

You've got to be kidding me... What a fucking jerk! Treating me like some sort of stranger... Clearly he knew it was me because why would anyone of the opposite characteristic attempt to sit down with him.

Just then he took out his phone and put it up to his ear.

"Hey man! What's up?"

Typical sexy behavior...

"No man, he was sitting behind me in class because the other seat was taken." He said, gesturing everything he was saying as if the person he was talking to could see him.

I can't believe he did this to me. I should have known this would be nothing more than a prank. I turned around and headed for the other side of the bakery where he wasn't. I had taken 2 steps when he said something in my direction even louder than before.

"NO, I said he was sitting behind me because the other seat was taken."

I turned around again, accidently making eye contact with him and sending us both into a state of panic.

Was he talking to me? Come to think of it I didn't hear his phone ring, or vibrate for that matter. Could he be using his phone as a disguise to talk to me? I walked back towards him but this time I sat diagonal to him on the other side of the corner.

"Yeah man sorry about that, I'll give him a call and let you know what's happening. C'ya." He said, pulling his phone down from his ear to his face and pretending to turn it off.

He began to dial a number into the phone. I could see it out of the corner of my eye, 1231231231

Maybe this is what he meant when he said that he had it covered. It's very unconventional, but it just might do the trick to keep onlookers at bay. I'm still skeptical though...

He waited a few seconds before saying anything, acting as if the phone was ringing.

"Hey man, what's up?"

I replied "I'm alright, how are you?"

"Hello? Are you there man? Did you forget how to use your phone?"

Oh shit... that's right. If I don't have a phone out too, it'll look like I'm talking to myself. That'll create more of a scene than if I were to be talking to him directly.

I took out my phone and put it up to my ear.

"Hey sorry about that, my phone was on the table when I answered it." I said, pulling him in from his previously asked questions.

"Haha, that's alright. So, how's it going?"

"Not too bad... and yourself?"

He replied "I'm doing great, now that I can finally talk to you."

So he really is talking to me. I don't even know what to say, I've never really had a conversation with a sexy before, all I've ever said was hello and nothing more.

"Umm..." I stopped for a moment, thinking of what to say so I was indirectly talking to him. "Why did you call?"

"I thought this would be easier than talking to you at school when everyone else was around. God forbid everyone else wanting to go to the movies... but yeah, I just got off the phone with Kal and I told him I'd call you."

He's good... It's seems to me like he's done this before, which I would not doubt in the slightest.

"Okay, so what is it you wanted to talk about?" I ask him indirectly.

"So anyways, what I wanted to ask was would you care to see a movie with me tomorrow? The Furious Five just came out and I really want to see it. I told Kal I'd ask you too, my best bud in the world!"

Best bud in the world... what a fucking joke. I know it's just him playing the role, but knowing it was indirectly directed at me makes me cringe.

"Oh cool! You got 2 free movie tickets! Which movie do you want to go see?" I said, grinning from ear to ear.

"Dude... I thought you got paid 2 weeks ago? What happened to all that money?"

I heard him let out a sigh, check mate. If I had to see this movie, then he'd be the one paying for me.

"Okay, and what time do you want go?" I asked.

"Fine... I'll pay for you, but you owe me one! The movie starts at 4:30pm. I'll meet you outside the theater in front of the flowerbeds. Don't be late like last time..."

I think he's referring to me being late tonight.

"That sounds like a great idea. Then after we can go to the beach and catch the sunset. I'll call Chris and let him know what's happening." I added

"Of course man, I'd love to play some video games later. I gotta go now though, I'll talk to you later."

Video games, huh. I wonder what type of video games he plays. They're probably all horrible first person shooters. Those games are all the same...

With that I got up and pretended to turn off my phone. Looking down at the table, I noticed I had not touched my drink or food. It would be rather awkward to sit back down, so I decided to pick them up and finish them on the way home.

I turned around and looked at him briefly, noticing a smile on his face. He seemed rather happy for someone doing something completely illegal. Maybe he's one of those people that get off on doing illegal stuff. What a weirdo... a sexy weirdo. My mind was racing, lapping every thought I had over and over again. The movies? Really? He should have picked somewhere better than that. I don't even know how we are going to talk there. It's a good thing he's alright with going to the beach because if we're going to be illegal friends, then we're going to do it right!
