A poem I wrote about the Ashevi, or fire dragons, from my story Reign of Ice. This poem will be in the poetry book I'm working on.

Have you ever gazed upon the mighty volcano as it spews forth fire from the deepest parts of the earth?

Have you ever seen the mighty dragon as it lays amidst the boiling lava pits it calls home?

Listen to the hissing and churning of their body as it withstands temperatures and chemicals that would kill any lesser being within minutes.

The flames of the earth rage within their chest as steam hot enough to kill pours forth from horn and frill.

Fearsome claws and sharp fangs show only the slightest curl of smoke. Hiding weapons that can melt stone and metal with barely a hint of effort.

Broad wings tattooed with marks of fire carry them through the sky and across giant volcanoes and lakes of fire.

Cloaked in fumes of smoke and ash they fly through the clouds and over lands rich in farms and forest.

The flames of the dragon are always ready and waiting for just the right spark to ignite them and send its heat blazing towards the sky once again.

Smoke rises during the day as the glow from their fire lights up the horizon at night.

Nothing burns hotter then the dragon's flames for even the scorching heat of their scales can burn others to the bone.

Within their breast is fire from the deepest parts of the earth. Flames that will burn away all those who dare to oppose them.

They turn their rage not on the innocent but upon the wicked. For these are not mindless beasts of legend but warriors who live to defend those who serve them.

Never mistake their desire for peace as weakness. For an enraged dragon will stop at nothing to ensure that justice is served upon the wicked.

And rumor has it that the pain from their fire never fades away.
