Genesis Part Four Euquine Written by, Charrio (Charles Uriarte) Part of Furegon, Book In progress. ( Rough Draft )

The sky burned and shook making the animals flee in terror as the drop ships made their landing. As the ships set down they were being watched my more than a few sets of eyes. The ones living on the planet couldn't miss the arrival, the sight was a terrifying one to those knowing nothing about space ships or technology. Once landed the ships in orbit set loose a series of satellites to help play eye in the sky.

The ships on the ground opened up and Canids emerged, looking around at the natural wonder and beauty of the planet. Euquine was untouched by comparison to Proxis, this world was pristine. As they looked around them, the wind gusted and brought the smells to the Canids. So many unknown and so many familiar scents filled their noses. Being gifted with excellent senses of smell it was like getting another view completely different than that which they could see with the eyes.

Taking a few days to fully set up the domes and base, the site was a buzz with activity. The labs were in full swing taking genetic samples of everything they could. The satellites had located a village some distance away and plans to go investigate were made.

The scientists had no doubts that the landing was most likely seen with fearful eyes. The plan was to send Canids and Skupples to investigate, probes and droids were to stay back in hope on not further scaring the Natives.

The mission to visit the near by village began in the early morning. Canids were actually very swift on foot as were Skupples compared to a human. Bred for war the Canids had super human endurance when it came to distance traveled. In no time at all they closed the distance, stopping short so many could hide in the undergrowth.

Sending in a small group they came closer, being obvious so they would be seen. They were approached by a humanoid that looked almost human, their build was much more petite, with larger pointed ears. The humanoid had several others hanging behind.

Both groups met the Canids group being four and two Skupples, the humanoid alone while several watched a short distance back looking agitated. Little if no direct communication was established in the first few days of meeting.

The meetings were a stand-offish affair. Both sides confused and a bit leary of the other. Soon some basics of communication were established. The drones taking sensory readings kept getting unusual readings. Things that would appear and then vanish in the next instant.

Humans instantly nicknamed the natives Elves, which fit them nicely. It wasn't too soon after that, when one of the security cameras caught several small beings fluttering about on butterfly wings. People really didn't know what to make of it, It certainly excited some and confused others. The Elves combined with the fairy like creatures where like a catalyst. Igniting the subconcious thoughts and ideas of everyone who came on the trip. Imagination and belief can be wonderful things, Euquine made this become a double edged sword.

The planet Euquine was a place of unknown power. It was a world where people's beliefs and fears would become real. The sightings fueled the imaginations, Constructs and Humans alike, were imagining-daydreaming what if other wonders lay out there.

Videos and data-logs were sent back to Proxis. The people back home were very pleased, and amazed with what they saw. This of course sparked even more people's imaginations. Soon after the sensors around the Euquine base camp were picking up strange sightings on a regular basis. The Elves were marveling at the technological toys the visitors had brought. The strange things caught on sensors were willow-whips, Trees moving their branches, small footprints appearing as if made by an invisible being.

Elves seemed to not bother to take notice to most of the strange happenings. Elves were a very long loved race and held quite a few tricks of their own. The fact that some could tap some unknown energy and use it to do an amazing many things, such as heal, create light, start fires and many other uses.

This was definitely something that the visitors wanted to know more about. Magic as humans called it was something the scientists simply couldn't understand. Magic is something that affects everyone's lives on Euquine. Magic taps energies that exist everywhere most often used but without people's notice. Belief affects it and gets stronger the more people believe.

Euquine is a planet of intense magical energy. Humans and the Constructs had absolutely no experience with such things. Imaginations running wild and video images and fantastical reports kept flooding the relays back home. New things started to be recorded, cameras caught what could only be called a Dragon on video. It's huge size and video of it hunting were the subject of countless discussions. All sorts of fantastical things and creatures were seen, Dragons, A Unicorn, Gargoyles to name a few. Soon other things were starting to show up.

Darker things, things that could only be called ghosts and the undead. People started to get scared and the more people saw the stronger things became. People started seeing stuff aboard the ships as well. Shadowy figures moving in the corner of the eye, but not there when one turns to look. People started to fear and fears fed the phenomenon.

Soon security engaged the new threats unable to stop the phantoms regardless of hightech weaponry. The Elves tried to explain that such things couldn't be destroyed by brute force. The problem here was one of belief, if you saw a ghost you'd most likely assume it cant die being dead already. The same goes for say a dragon, armor that is almost invincible and varying degrees of magic depending on what people believe.

Things started to go badly for the visitors, a few deaths happened soon several more over the course of a few days. Images and videos of the new bogey men and such made people's fears and imaginations soar, which in turn made things worse.

As more people saw and began to imagine and believe, the encounters became more troublesome. People, Canids, Skupples and all other beings live in a world of magic. As people believe and their beliefs change so does the world.

Euquine was one of the only planets where belief and reality were so closely bound. When people see a monster they panic and fear swells feeding the impossible. Defense was now on high alert, the Canids on ground soon began to get trigger happy as fears rose. The fighting ended in several deaths and only frightened the people even more.

The Elves were getting along quite nicely with the Human visitors. Being a very long lived species the new novelty of human science very much interested them. After the fatalities more security measures were enacted putting the base camp on lockdown at night. This did almost nothing to stop the strange and dangerous phenomenon.

The decision was made with mush hesitation to lift off and abandon the base camp. The ships packed up and prepared for launch. The lift off went to plan and the ships returned to orbit. Some Elves seeking a new adventure joined the humans aboard the ships. Finding it much safer in orbit compared to being on the surface. Humans had tried most of their defenses and weapons before the decision to lift off was made. Some of the encounters were successful but the cost in lives and limited gear was too high.

Many plans were changed after the base camp failure. The plan now was make a moon base to jump onward to Furegon. Quite a few things came from the encounters on Euquine, some good, some bad. Resources untapped and easily mined, magic which many humans considered dangerous since its like playing with fire.

Magic was used by some Elves and took them literally decades to learn and centuries to master. Humans who lived so short of a life couldn't use such powers as skillfully or safely. The energies magic used were everywhere and have been since time began. Elves were not the first or the only race to tap such power.

Demons and things of darkness who were naturally creatures of magic. These were the masters of magical energies and thrived on them. When a being uses magic they tap energies untrained they use energy blindly unaware. Creatures such as Demons can feel such a surge and seek it out. Having a terrible contempt and sick pleasure in destruction usually killing those they find using such powers. However, when one is properly trained magic can be used with little danger. This is why it takes Elves so long to master.

To use magic is like to touch a spider's web, one must know how to touch such without alerting the master of the web. Demons being creatures of magic are affected by belief. So when humans first saw the Demons, their powers swelled. In the human mind Demons are things from hell with untold dark powers. All of this fueled the Demons power and they loved it, seeking Humans out.

Before humans came to Euquine Demons had little interest in Humans even though they already knew of them, but not of their fears. Many sets of eyes were watching the new visitors, some malevolent and some just curious. Life for the people of Proxis would never be the same after landing on Euquine.

Elves now joined the Humans, Canids and Skupples in space. Quick to learn and very social mose people loved them. Time went on, the humans began building a moon base and decided to use portions of Euquine to test out some new weapons developments. Euquine having scared Humans badly didn't think twice about over-killing a monster or two.

Humans avoided any place Elves requested and their settlements. Having lived with constructs for so long, dealing with another race wasn't a big change to human affairs.

The moon base constructed and new supply ships arriving as time goes on. Elves who wished to, become valuable members of the human space crews. Talk about Furegon and the new adventures interested a lot of the younger Elves. The colony ships now out of date were refit and used as parts of the moon base. Entirely new ships were being constructed.

The new ships were massive, this time the ship was to land and become the start of a new colony. Magic was banned from spacecraft as too big a risk to the vessel. However magic was used often to scrye on Furegon, the visions were just as good if not better than the probe satellites humans had sent. Humans tended to avoid trying to use magic, Elves were looked to for such.

Robots with artificial intelligence were breaking the scene as construction continued. Skupples were the prime inventors and enjoyed teaching the new A.I.s how to interact with the world. The new intelligences were like a child at first and grew as they were exposed to new information and interactions.

Colony ships constructed and prepared for launch, crews full of eager explorers. After a large display and celebration the ships were launched onward to Furegon.

End Part 4

Note: Magic can do many things but the grander the use the bigger chance something dark will take notice. Demons can feel when someone uses magic, Elves have trained for centuries how to avoid such a problem.
