This is my first attempted story ever. I haven't written a story since I was in High school which was like 6 years ago, so feel free to criticize as you see fit. If you guys like it I'll try and write more. Let me know what you think, and be honest!

My story is nothing to be proud of; it has no happy ending, nor a beginning. My story is not inspiring, nor should it be considered anything but tragic. This is a simple story of a man who seeks the truth and will eventually find it. My name is Isaac, and this is my story.

Chapter 1: Awaken

It was my seventh birthday, and my parents decided to take me to the movies. My parents weren't the most wealthy people, but we managed to get by. My father was an accountant for some company while my mother took care of the house. Them taking me to the movies was one of the best gifts I could have gotten. I was extremely excited because one of the showings was playing and I could not wait to see it. As we arrived I got even more excited. I was about to see, what I thought, the best movie of my entire life. We entered the theatre, bought our tickets and popcorn and enjoyed the movie. As we exited, I couldn't help but notice all the stares we were given. At this point, I was used to ignoring them, but it was my birthday and I was getting rather annoyed.

"Mom, why is everyone staring at us? Do we look silly or something?" I asked.

"Oh... honey don't worry about that. People are just surprised to see such a happy family these days" she said as she smiled.

"Cecelia... perhaps it's time we told Ike about what's going on?" my father said.

"We can tell him when we get home, Damien, let's just enjoy this night" she said.

It was an excellent night, as far as my seven year old mind could tell. It wasn't hot, but yet it wasn't cold. I could wear my favorite sweater without being too warm. As we walked home, I noticed my parents holding their hands. This made me feel warm on the inside. I was glad that my parents liked each other because I know others in my class whose parent's don't feel that way. I decided to walk besides my mother and hold her hand. Her paw felt warm and made me feel safe. I leaned in on her as I walked. I looked up and noticed my mother was wearing a new necklace. It seemed to shimmer across the moonlight while resting on her orange and white fur. The pendant was in the shape of two creatures in the shape of a heart with their hands connected in the middle. Their hands held something shiny that reflected off of the moonlight.

"Hey mom, when did you get that necklace? I don't think I've seen it before" I asked.

"Well, it's actually your father's and I's anniversary today. He bought this necklace for me. Isn't it pretty?" she said as she grinned.

"I had it custom made actually. They don't normally have a fox and wolf on the same kind of jewelry nowadays." he said.

"I don't understand why that is, dad. What's so bad about a fox and a wolf being next to each other?" I asked.

"It's just how the way things are, son. People just don't seem to understand interspecies relationships. But I think that will change someday. I mean just look at your mother and I, have you ever seen such a good looking couple?" He exclaimed as he laughed.

"Is that why people were giving us such weird looks tonight?" I asked with my head down.

"Probably" dad said.

"Damien! I thought we were going to wait 'till we got home to discuss this?" she said angrily.

"Well, I figured now is a better time than ever. What's being at home going to make a difference?" dad exclaimed.

We decided to stop walking for a moment. My father knelt down beside me and looked me in the eye with a rather serious look on his face. He put his paws on my shoulder. I stared into his green eyes and listened intently.

"Listen son, whatever people tell you about your mother and I is probably wrong. There is nothing wrong with two unrelated species falling in love. Sure it's unorthodox, but I feel that, that will change within the near future. I want you to understand that your mother and I love each other very much, and no matter how many people stare at us, it will not change the way I feel about this family." he said with a rather serious look on his face.

"Even if my aunt and uncles won't talk to us?" I said

"Even if they don't talk to us" he said.

I stared at my father for a few seconds to understand what he just said and then I hugged my him. His grey fur felt warm under my muzzle. His arms wrapped around me and squeezed me tight. We stayed that way for a few seconds enjoying the embrace.

Suddenly, a noise came from some bushes a few feet from where we were standing. My father stood up and looked towards the bushes and started walking towards them.

"Be careful Damien, you don't know what's behind them" my mother said.

"Don't worry sweetie, I've got this. It's probably just a small animal" he said

My father walked towards the bushes and examined them. He stood there for a minute looking and maneuvering the branches to try and find something. He decided to stick his arm inside to try and grab something.

"I think I've got something. Give me a second here... yup there is definitely...AHHHHH IT HAS MY HAND" he yelled as his entire body dragged into the bushes.

My mother gasped and rushed towards my father. She grabbed his torso and pulled him away from the bush.

"Oh.. thank you honey. I was almost dragged into this bush by this soccer ball" he said as he grinned.

My father looked like he just pulled the biggest prank of his entire life. His face looked like that of a child almost, innocent and genuine. He couldn't help but laugh at the entire situation.

"I swear, you are the most child-like wolf I have ever laid eyes upon. You could have really been in trouble!" she yelled with her yellow eyes darting at him

.

"Yeah, but it's the moments where you truly are scared where you seem the most sexy" he said with a grin.

"You guys are gross" I said.

Both my parents laughed at each other and then kissed one another. To me, they seemed so happy. I couldn't imagine having any other kinds of parents. To me, they were perfect. We walked the rest of the way home telling jokes and laughing at one another.

By the time we arrived at our house, it was already my bedtime; it was almost eleven. I brushed my teeth and put on my pajamas and quietly slipped into bed. My mother walked in and sat beside my bed.

"How was your birthday, sweetie?" she asked.

"I thought it was great! I got to see the movie I wanted to see for awhile and I got to spend time with the both of you." I said as I grinned.

"Well I'm glad. Both your father and I hoped you would enjoy today. Not only is today the day your father and I got married, but it's also the day you came into our lives. I just want you to know that you are very special to us and we couldn't have wished for something better." she said as she smiled.

At that moment, I heard a loud bang near our front door. My mother looked away from me with a fearful look on her face and then looked back at me. I could see in her yellow eyes that something was wrong. I sat up in my bed and tried to look out my bedroom door.

"No, honey, you stay here let me and your father go check this out." she said

My mother sprang up from my bed and bolted out of the room. I waited sitting there in my bed for my mother to come back. After a few seconds my mother came rushing into my room and closed the door quietly. She ran across my room and opened the window.

"Isaac, you need to go outside and hide for a little bit, okay? Can you do that for me?" she said nervously.

"Mom, what's going on? Is everything okay? Where's dad?" I said rather scared.

"There's no time to explain, can you do this for me? There's just a small disturbance downstairs. Your father is taking care ..."

Before she could finish her sentence, a loud bang emitted from outside the room. My mother gasped and looked towards the closed door, and then at me.

"Sweetie, please, you need to go outside, now!" she yelled.

I looked over at my mother and saw fear in her eyes. Never have I seen such fear before. I decided to listen and climbed my way out onto the roof of our house. As soon as I reached the ground, my mother closed the window. Instinctively, I decided to look into the nearest window into the living room. But what I saw was nothing a seven year old should have seen.

I saw my father kneeling on the floor in front of a stranger I have never seen before. He was holding his leg as if he was hurt. There was a thick red liquid slowly coming from where his hand was placed. The stranger was about the same height as my dad. He had grey fur with a slight greenish tint towards his neck, but was wearing some kind of mask over his face. However, I could tell that he was a wolf. He was holding a small gun towards my father's head. I then saw my mother run down the stairs and towards my father, only to be stopped by another stranger holding another small gun towards her head. The stranger moved my mother closer to my father and made them sit across from each other.

My mother and father both held hands as they sat there. There was some kind of arguing, but I couldn't hear them outside the window. Finally, after several minutes of arguing, the man in front of my father gave a grin that looked murderous and shot his gun. An outburst of blood came out from my father's head as he fell lifeless from the man. I'm sure everyone in my neighborhood could hear my mother's scream as his body fell to the floor. When my mother looked up, her eye's caught mine for a second. Her yellow eyes looked warm and peaceful. We stared at each other for what seemed like hours, but in actuality, it was only a few seconds. She mouthed "I Love you" as tears fell from her eyes. At that moment, the second man shot his gun at my mother. My mother fell towards my father and didn't move. I stood outside our house, frozen. I stared at my mother and father as they laid there, lifeless, hoping that they would get up at any moment. I wasn't sure how to react, but suddenly tears flowed from my eyes. I felt frozen, unable to move. Everything happened so fast, I felt as if I had no time to react.

After a few minutes of staring at my lifeless parents in my living room, I noticed the strangers. I had forgot that they were even there for a moment. They were moving around searching for something. Finally, they looked outside. The stranger with the odd greenish tinted fur stared directly at me. His orange eyes locked onto mine. I stared for a second, frozen. He looked like he was scared, but not as in frightened. He had the look of someone as if he was about to get caught for doing something wrong. I then saw him move quickly towards the front door. Frightened, I ran across the backyard of my house into my neighbors. I must have run several blocks before I decided to stop. I decided to climb a tree and hide from the stranger there.

I waited for several minutes, but I saw no sign of the two strangers. I decided to climb down the tree and started walking towards my house. The night seemed colder, even though I had just been outside about an hour ago; I could see my breath as I exhaled. As I approached my house, I looked through the broken front door. All I could see before stepping into the house was my father's grey and white tail, not moving. As soon as I saw this, my eyes started to well up again. I rushed inside the house and into the living room. There I saw them, my parents lying lifeless across our living room floor. A pool of blood surrounded them and was tainting their fur. My legs buckled from underneath me, and I fell to the floor towards my mother. I looked at my mother's face and something caught my eye; it was her necklace.

I reached out and took the necklace off of my mother. I looked at the pendant again and noticed something peculiar. My parent's seemed to be in the exact same position as the necklace. My mother and father were in the shape of a crude heart with their faces facing each other. They laid there holding hands, looking almost peaceful. I did my best to stand up, but still had some trouble keeping my balance. My foot paws were drenched in the pool of my parents blood, but I didn't care. I stood there for a few seconds looked at how peaceful my parent's looked.

A floorboard creaked from behind me just then, and I turned around. It was the orange-eyed stranger. For some reason he seemed even taller when standing three feet away from me. His whole body was covered in some black cloth, but I could still make out that grey/greenish fur that came from underneath his mask. He looked angry for some reason, as if I had wronged him in some way. He held not a gun in his left hand, but a knife.

Was he going to stab me? I thought.

"Why did you do this? Why did you kill my parents! What have we ever done to you" I yelled furiously as tears rolled down my cheek.

The man just stood there and laughed as if I just told the funniest joke he's ever heard of. It took him a few seconds to regain his composure, but as soon as he calmed down he started moving towards me. His eye's had a menacing orange glow that were filled with rage. Frightened, I started backing up towards my parents. I stopped when I felt one of my parents foot paws on mine. The man was just inches away from me now. He had a stench of sweat and cheap cologne that made my nose cringe. He grabbed me by my chest fur and held me up. As I was lifted, I grabbed onto his arm to try and support myself.

"You don't get to ask questions you abomination. Your parent's had this coming to them when they decided to stay together. They knew the risks of having interspecies relations and yet still did nothing. Now look at them, they're dead and it's all .. your .. fault." he said with a menacing smile.

"So what... are you going to kill me too?" I frantically said.

"No... I don't think so. You don't deserve the pleasure of death as your parents got. I think we are going to let you live and suffer like the abomination you are. But before we go, I have a little gift for you." he said with a frightening tone.

He then lifted his left hand and swung his knife downwards, towards my face. The blade carved out a small thin line starting just above my left eye and continued downward towards the bridge of my muzzle and ended just below my right eye. The stranger swung so fast, it didn't even hurt. But then he dropped me onto the ground and kicked me right in my stomach. I felt as if every breath of air in me exited at that moment. I could feel myself falling backwards towards my parents. As soon as I hit the ground, I fell unconscious.

I woke up outside of my house on a bed of some sorts. I tried opening my eyes, but everything was blurry. I could make out some red and blue lights nearby and some figures walking around, but nothing else. I sat up and felt dizzy. I could feel some kind of bandage wrapped around my face. I noticed a figure approaching me. My eyes were finally adjusting to my surroundings. All I could make out was that this man's fur was mainly dark, but with some tints of brown. He was part of the K-9 unit, he was a Police dog. The German Shepherd stood close to me and put his paw on my shoulder.

"Hey buddy, are you okay?" the dog said.

"I'm not sure... where am I?" I asked.

"You're in a stretcher, just outside your house. What's your name?" the dog asked.

"My... my name is Isaac. Where are my mom and dad?" I asked.

"Isaac, your mom and dad... well... they didn't quite make it." He said with a troubled look on his face. "They're still inside the house. We're trying to figure out what happened here. Do you know anything?" he asked.

"Oh...okay. All I remember is that two men came into my house and..." I stopped.

I started to remember what happened as if it were replaying inside of my head. I stared towards my legs and noticed the blanket covering me was stained with blood. I could feel the fur on my legs were covered in something, but had dried and stiffened. I was also clenching something in my paw, something small. I opened my paw and saw my mother's pendant. Fear had struck me just then and I looked towards the German Shepherd and started crying. The dog picked me up and cradled me.

"Listen, you don't have to talk right now. Let's get you somewhere safe, okay?" he said.

I agreed and leaned my head against his chest. He was warm, just like my father. I clutched his fur in my paws tighter and tighter as we passed the front of my house. This night felt even colder than it had before. I could see faint flakes of white falling from the pitch black sky. The snow didn't seem cold though, it almost felt as if the snow was trying to comfort me and tell me that it was going to be okay. He walked towards one of the K-9 Unit's car. He sat me in the front passenger seat and gave me a blanket. He sat in the driver's seat and turned on the car and started driving away from my house. I felt empty as we passed my house. I decided to look away and enwrap the blanket around myself and fall asleep.
