#2 of A Tale of Lives

Grey is having trouble sleeping tonight, and with all the creaking around his mind begins to wander.

"Bonnie, Chika... Alright... Freddy? Yup."

The guard looked to each and every animatronic, making sure they were in place. His cameras flickered softly, glowing into static and back into focus.

"Foxy?" He lazily murmured, switching the cameras.

Deep purple curtains wide open, nothing there. No soft glowing eyes, no outline of a fox behind them, nor the shiny glint of a hook. He was gone.

"Shit, better shut the door..." The guard was suddenly cut off as he reached for the door's button. A shining hook, covering his wrist. It stopped his arm from moving.

A bright red eye pierced his vision, and a terrible scream echoed through the building, deep into his ears and making it's way into his very bones.

The hook moved from his wrist and straight into his gut, clawing his insides and invoking a blood curdling scream from the guard. However, this scream was mere whines of a dog compared to what followed. As Foxy tore out the hook, he rammed it again, straight into the mouth of the guard, then swiftly brought it up, impaling his skull from underneath, and letting it sink deep in. The screams of both the guard and Foxy were soon followed by that of Bonnie, Chika and Freddy...

GAME OVER

"Oh damn it. This game is too fucking hard." A black and green fox pushed out of his chair. The contents of his desk had been thrown to the floor from his last scare. He had been so close too! If only he'd noticed sooner, he would have made the night for sure, but alas Foxy got the better of him once again.

Placing objects thrown askew back upon the desk, Grey took notice of the time. 2:37

"Oh crap.. I've got stuff to do tomorrow. I shouldn't have stayed up so late."

He hurriedly shoveled the remaining objects onto the desk and left the living room, turning lights out as he went. Slowly the room grew darker, shadows dissipating into the darkness. Finally he made it to his own room, and shut the door.

Swiftly he undressed, his shirt and pants thrown to the floor, revealing his toned body. He rubbed his fur, smoothing and ruffling it over, stretching out with a wide yawn. His eyes closed and blinked.

A dark figure appeared and was gone the moment the blink had finished. Grey jumped, tail held out stiffly, fur on end. "Ugh.. I'm seeing things because I fucked up my schedule again." The fox's fur settled once more. He scowled and shook himself out. "I need to get some sleep and fix this mess tomorrow. I just hope I don't end up cranky tomorrow."

The fox lifted his covers and turned out his small gray lamp, the lights finally fading from the house. He slipped in and sighed, discomforted by the fact his mate was not with him. Kari was out of town for the week, and he had never felt more lonely. He loved having someone to share the bed with at night. Someone to hold close and whisper to, but he sighed and curled up, relaxing his body.

"Creeeeeek"

His eyes splintered open at the sound, ears picking up the noise and reacting. Probably nothing, house settling, nothing more. His arched back fell once more, and he tried to drift off. However, the back of his mind gave into thought. What if it wasn't nothing? What if there was something in the house?

Of course not. It would be perfectly fine.

What if it wasn't? Don't you feel like there is something watching you? Right now?

He shifted himself, pulling the covers up a bit so they covered his muzzle. Finally he gave in, lifting his head. Darkness. He could see nothing.

Nothing is there. Everything is fine.

How do you know? You can't actually see anything. What might be hiding there? A buglar awaiting your sleep with his knife? A demon, waiting to take you to hell? Foxy?

Two of those don't exist, the first is highly unlikely. I would have heard him.

Perhaps it was a raccoon? They are quite the sneaky ones, and they are the ones to be found stealing quite often...

Now you're just being racist. That's no way to think. There is nothing there, now go to sleep.

...

...

...

Did you feel that?

Yes...

The little crawling on your leg?

Yup.

What is it?

I don't know, probably just nervous tingles.

Maybe, but what if it's a bug?

It's not.

Something dangerous, a black widow! Or, maybe it's actually a snake! Or a scorpion!

Stop it! There is nothing there, I don't feel it anymore.

Maybe it just stopped moving. What if it-

Nope, we're done here. Leave me alone so I can go to sleep.

...

...

...

"Creeeeeeek"

What was that?

I believe it to be the house.

Uh huh... And if it isn't?

Then I'll take care of it.

You will? How?

I have my knife on the dresser.

What if it has a gun?

I'll rush it.

You might die...

... I know...

That wouldn't be fun.

Yea, I kinda figured that.

"Creeeek"

Uhhh...

Don't say anything.

But I think that one was real. It's been too frequent! There is something there! We gotta get out of here!

But there isn't any-

Something is coming down the halls! We have to move! It's gonna get you!

There is not-

Hurry! What if it's a demon? Ready to butcher your flesh, rip your skin bit by bit and then bring your soul straight to hell.

Those don't ex-

"Creeeek"

It's here.

What?

It's in the room, what ever it is. I bet it's looking at us.

I... I can feel it. Something is watching us.

We gotta do something, grab the knife and fling it at the beast!

But... But it won't work. What if I lie here and pretend to be asleep?

That wont work! We gotta do something!

But I-

DO SOMETHING!

"I CANT!"

Grey shouted, pulling the covers over his head and balling himself up. "I can't do anything..." He cried out, tears streaming his face. He sat up and turned on the lights.

Nothing...

Nothing was there.

He wiped his eyes. He was such a baby... Why did these things always get to him?

He flung himself out of his bed and grabbed his pillow and blanket.

...

Arufa woke up with a yawn, he quickly swung himself over and rested his feet outside the bed, only to slightly kick something.

"Eh?"

Under him, next to Jade and his bed, lie Grey. He had brought a pillow and his blanket and gone into their room at some point in the night.

With a small sigh, he lift the distant kin up and brought him back into his room.

"Geeze.. What happened to you last night?" The kitsune asked softly.

He could make out the crustiness around his eyes, it looked like Grey had been crying last night. Something must have happened and he went into their room...

Arufa shook his head and left Grey's room.

He came into the kitchen, and pushed some bread into the toaster. Turning around to the fridge, he pulled out the milk and set it on the counter. He made his coffee and took to the back door. When he went for the handle, it fell off. "The hell?"

He pulled the door open, and noticed the knob on the outside had been partially unscrewed on one side, and on the other a small file hang. Someone had tried to break in, but then suddenly stopped in the middle of it.
