Cody came into the kitchen and sat at the breakfast table behind an open window. Ms. Lily was busy cooking breakfast at the stove. "Good morning Cody," she said turning her attention to her adopted ten year old son. "Cody," She said staring at the young calf "you know better than to come to breakfast looking like that." Cody was shirtless and wearing his cowboy hat and a pair of old jeans. "Aw Mrs. Lily," he pleaded looking at her with his innocent black eyes. "It's too hot for a shirt," he said rubbing his small chest "And I'm sweating." Ms. Lily looked at the fishing pole standing next to him. "And your going fishing today," she said folding her arms over her chest. Cody looked down at his bare feet. Ms. Lily palced a plate of bacon and eggs in front of the boy. "It's the last week of Summer vacation," he said chewing on a piece of crisp bacon.

Mrs. Lily left the kitchen and came back with a bottle of SPF 50 sunscreen. "I don't mind if you go fishing," she said squirting sunscreen into her hand. "The sun is powerful warm today," she stood behind the boy. "Mrs. Lily," Cody said while she rubbed the sunscreen into his back. "This is embarrassing," Mrs. Lily finished rubbing sunscreen into his back then she squeezed more into her hand and started rubbing it into his chest. "Should have thought about that before you came out here without a shirt on," she said smiling. "You could have taken it off outside and I would never have known the difference," Ms. Lily finished rubbing the sunscreen on him, "Until you came back with a sunburn on your cute little chest," she pinched his nipples which always makes Cody laugh.

She rubbed a little sunscreen on his nose. "Go on and go fishing," she said with a smile. Cody sat up quietly and grabbed his fishing pole. "I'll see you this afternoon at the Tumbleweed Saloon," Mrs. Lily gave his behind a gentle slap. She sat at the table and sipped her coffee. "Be careful near the water," she called as he ran outside into the bright sunshine.

Cody sat at the edge of the lake near an old oak tree. He cast his line into the water and laid in the sun. He smiled while his chest stretched for the warmth of the sun. The boy was half asleep and had closed his eyes when something tugged at the fishing line. Cody waded into the lake trying to pull the line in. He waded into deep water and fell in. "Help!" he yelled trying to stay above the water. "Help I can't swim!" he yelled. He was flailing his arms and trying to float. His chest was visible. "Help I can't swim," he said again desperately trying to float. "I CAN'T SWIM!" he yelled again treading water. But he went under for a third time. Only bubbles could be seen at the surface.

Fortunately Cowlamity Kate was riding passed the lake on her way into Cow town when she heard the calls for help. "Whoa." she said stopping her horse. She ran to the edge of the lake. She could see Cody struggling in the water. "Hang on kid," she said removing her shirt and boots "I'm coming," Cowlamity waded into the lake then dove into the water swimming toward Cody. She reached the spot where he went under. "Hang in there kiddo," she said. Cowlamity dove underwater and swam toward the boy. Cody was sinking to the sandy bottom. The boy became tangled in seaweed then his eyes closed. Cowlamity grabbed the boy and pulled him out. She wrapped her arms around his small chest. She swam with him back to the surface. Cody coughed water. He opened his eyes and looked at Cowlamity. "You saved my life," he said hugging her. " Aw Shucks," she said" you do the same for me." She helped him out of the water.

Cowlamity put Cody on her horse and wrapped the boy in her blanket. "Let's get you back to town," she said picking up her shirt and boots. She climbed on the horse. Cody held her around the waist. "Hold on tight," she said. They rode into the sunset.
