Chapter 1: Low Tide
Hello, my name is Morghen Leonis. A very long time ago I used to work on a pirate ship with quite possibly one of the most feared captains of all time. He was the scourge of the sea, and the most wanted pirate in all of existence. His name, was Captain Case Foxis. Very few lived to tell the tales that are now spoken about him, although I remember the time that I fell in love for the first time ever, well with another man I mean. Let me tell you my tale of what happened that day.
Captain Case Foxis, or Cappin Fox as we referred to him, was not only deadly but an extremely kind soul. An odd combination if you think about it, but he only showed his kindness to his crew. When I first met Cappin Fox, I was stumbling home drunk from the pub. I bumped into him and tried to pick a fight. His close friend and first mate Loupgris, Grsietl as we call him, stopped the cappin from slaying me on the spot. What they did instead was make me a new crew member. When I awoke the next morning, I found myself in the Captian's quarters strapped to the bed. I began looking around, and saw the Captain asleep in his chair with Gristel curled up around his feet. I made a loud grunting noise because my mouth had a piece of cloth tied around it. My loud grunt had awoken both Gristel and the Captain abruptly. They made their way to me, untied me, and removed the piece of cloth from my mouth. Starring at the Captain I felt weakened, but also at ease. He wasn't very tall, maybe about 5'3", but he was very lean, and very beautiful looking. His fur was fairly unique, he was white with red-orange stripes, i had never seen anything like it. He had a very bright smile that seemed to illuminate the room, and he had beautiful eyes, one glowing like a jade, and one yellow that burned like the sun. I had never experienced anything like this with another man, but it was like meeting my late wife for the first time ever all over again. The Captain grinned at me and stated, "I'm glad to be seein' ye awake now laddy. I would give proper thanks to me mate thar also, if it weren't for him, ye would be quite dead now."
I looked over at saw Gristel standing very straight and powerful looking. He stood about 6' tall, but was very muscular. He had a sterling silver shine to his fur coat, and eyes that shined like sapphires. Again I was awe that I had met pirates that were not ugly as sin. Gristel smiled big at me for a moment with his arms crossed. "Th .. Thank you, for letting me live. If there is ever anything I can do, just name it." I stuttered to him.
Gristel laughed very loudly at my praise and patted my head. "Don't be worrin' about that." He said. "When dah time comes, you'll be helpin' us out. Now tell me laddy, what be your name. Actually I'm wantin' yah teh stand up and salute Cappin Fox properly, den be sayin' yer name teh him."
I stood up from the bed and saluted the Captain properly. "My name is Morghen Leonis, Cappin Fox." I stated crisply.
The Captain stared at me up and down. From his inspection, I was only to assume that he was making sure I was ok. "You be quite the looker laddy. Tell me, have ye ever been in love?" He asked me calmly
"Yes Captain, I used to have a wife, but she rests peacrfully now" I crisply stated
He shook his head and left the his quarters. Gristel walked over in front of me and stated that I was to be the new ships helmsman, the last one had been killed for talking back to the Captain. Gristel stated he would show me what I needed to do for this position and who I would also be working with. This all happened about six months prior to my first time with the Captian.
When I started to work with his crew, the Captain seemed very friendly to me. He would give me kind words, a pat on the back every now and then as well. If the Captain gave me an order I would adhere to it. The Captain became very fond of me over the few months on his ship, and I became very fond of working for him. Who would have thought that stealing from others would be so much fun and so rewarding. Sure I got into a few fights when others would board our ship, but often times, I would make quick work of them. Girstel, I noticed, would look at me every now and then in a somewhat loving manner. He would just look at me up and down for a few minutes at a time, and when I would catch him doing so, he would simply wink at me, or beam a smile my way. This went on for a few weeks until one faithful day when i got an unexpected visit from Gristel. I was sitting in my cabin just resting while I was off duty from maintaining the ships course. Gristel walked up to me calmly and put his paw on my shoulder. I looked up to him for a moment, and saw he seemed somewhat perturbed about something. He looked down at me and stated "Leonis, we need to be havin a little chat 'bout something."
I tilted my head at him and asked him nervously. "Did I do something wrong Gristel?"
"Nay laddy, you be doin' a good job on dah ship. Is jus', som'tin be buggin dah Cappin lately." He expressed, "It seems the Cappin hath gotten a tad attached to ye lately."
"Well that's a good thing right? I mean, the Cappin's a nice fellow an-"
"Lad!" He interrupted "Ye be missin' dah point, Cappin Fox be inlove wit ya."
I starred blankly at him, unable to move, unable to say a word. All I could do was sit and think, why would the Captain be in love with me, over and over again. I had never really considered a man attractive before, it was something i never really thought about either. Sure I liked Captain Fox, but as more then a Captain and a friend. I then thought back to when I first saw the captain and how stiff I became around him. I looked up at Gristel after a few minutes and meekly asked him what I should do. Then Gristel smiled big at me and clamly stated "I think ye should be makin sure the Cappin knows dat yer in love with him too."
"I'm what?" I muttered.
"Well be thinkin bout it this way. Would you rather become the Cappins lover, or would ya rather be havin' your limbs torn off my me?" He stated calmly.
"Uh.... I ... I think I'll ... become the Cappins lover" I replied shyly.
"Dat's a good boy." He said softly as he patted me on the head like a child. He wagged his tail briefly, and sat down beside me. He looked at me square in the eyes, and I felt at ease slightly while starring into his. He reached out to the underside of my muzzle and began scratching me affectionately on my chin. "It'll be all right kid, the Cappin goes pretty easy the first time around." He mentioned
I tilted my head at him and gave an questionable look at him "How do you know Gristel?" I asked slightly thrown off by his comment.
He laughed loudly and gave me a playful punch in the arm. "Don't ya know why I'm called the "First Mate" yet?"
"I thought it was just because you were the Cappins most trustworthy crew member." I responded.
"Nay." He replied then looked down at the ground "The Cappin an' I were mates at one point. 'E was very special to me, an I wish it coulda gone on fer longer. But I couldn't stand seein the Cappin gettin up at arms when da crew wasn't behavin. So I took charge an star'ed makin' sure everyone be listenin' to da Cappin. I got so caught up with keepin' da crew in line, our relationship fell apart. But we are still good to each other." He looked up at me briefly and I saw he had a tear in his eye. To see something like this from Gristel was shocking. I leaned over to him and gave him a hug. I don't know what was running through my mind hugging another man like this, but I felt as though I had to comfort the big guy. He hugged me tightly and then pushed me back a little bit. Looking deeply into each others eyes, our lips met. Not thinking I had just kissed another man. The kiss lasted for what seemed like an eternity, but it felt so right. Just then I felt something flicking against my lips asking for entrance. I opened the way for the "intruder" and entwined my tongue with his. We kissed deeply, and passionately like this for a few minutes. Snapping back to reality, I broke our kiss and put my paws over my mouth. I pushed myself away from him and fell out of my chair. I felt as though I had just committed a crime that the gods themselves would never forgive me for. I cried, long and hard for the first time since I was a kitten. Gristel walked over to me and offered me a hand, stupidly I slapped it out of the way, and got up on my own. I ran out of the cabin, and stopped when I got to the side of the ship. Starred at by some of the other crew members, I could only stand there crying over the passing water. One of the members walked up to me and pointed out that my cat-hood was poking out of my pants. Embarassed again by the situation, I ran back into the cabin and lied on my bed crying in my down pillow. What a horrible night this was, the Captain wanted me to be his mate, and Gristel and I had shared a kiss together. But the odd thing about it, I liked kissing Gristel. Never before had I experienced anything like kissing another man, but it was so nice. I sat there for a few minutes when i heard foot steps heading down into the cabin. I assumed it was just a passing crew member, but to my suprise it was Grsitel. 'Was he back to kill me?' was all I could think at the moment. I sat looking him right in his eyes. I was unable to move, and unable to say a word I was so scared by his presence. "I was wondering where you had run off to mister lion." he expressed, "I hope that kiss didn't scare you off though, it was a spur of the moment thing, i would never try to harm you while under the captains eye." Still unable to say a word i started to shake by his presence and felt sweat roll down my brow. I opened my mouth in hopes of being able to ask him something, but nothing came out. Gristel walked over to me and looked at me in a concerned manner. "You ok lad?" He asked. "You look like you are about to die."
"You aren't going to kill me are you?" I asked back to him "I .. I'm so sorry I slapped your paw away from me"
"It's ok lad, I wont hurt you, as I said, The Cappin keeps a watchful eye on me and his crew. If I was gonna kill ya, the captain would more then likely kill me. Besides, I like you too much to want to kill you." He replied calmly and smilied.
I nodded and calmed down slowly. Content with his answer, I stood up out of my chair and walked over to him placing my head against his chest. I don't know what had come over me, but I was so relieved that he wasn't angry with me. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him tightly. During my embrace he looked down at me and placed his arms and tail around me and held me close to him. I looked up at Gristel and blushed shyly at him, he beamed a smile and asked me softly "what are you blushing about kid?"
I giggled a little bit and put my head back against him. "Nothing." I replied back to him, and stayed like this with him for as long as i could. Gristel removed his tail and arms from around me and pushed me back a little bit. "If I didn't know better lad, I'd think you'd be havin' a thing for me." He stated. Again I blushed, and nodded a little "I have never been with another man before, but that kiss opened my eyes to a new view on life." I advised him, "It was very special to me, I can only hope the Captain will be as nice and caring as you are Gristel."
Gristel blushed deeply and smiled back at me, "The Cappin maybe a bit hard sometimes, but he be a good excellent partner." He told me "He also maybe a lil odd ball, but he's very kind and his heart is always in the right place. I don't think he has an uncompassionate bone in his body. Sure he kills innocent people and robs from them, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love his friends and crew." He took his arms from my shoulders and smiled big at me. "Now I want you to be rememberin' this.... Never leave the Cappin, I want you to be with him till the end of your days. You two are perfect for each other, and anyone who tells you otherwise will need to answer to me." He gave me a kiss on the lips and bumped noses with me. "The Cappin be wantin' to talk wit ya at da break of dawn, so get a good nights sleep, and I will be here to get you personally."
"But what about the ship, I gotta maintain it's direction or we will crash into an uncharted mass of land."
"Rest easy boy-o you be havin' a long day ahead of you as da Cappins Mate. I have someone out there to be maintainin' our course." Gristel walked out of the room slowly and closed the door gently behind him.
For some reason i was grinning uncontrollably. Too happy to go to sleep I decided to take a walk around. I had the biggest grin on my face when I adventured the ship. To be honest I was a little shocked that I was so happy to be the captains new mate, but for some reason I felt a little fulfilled. Needless to say I got a lot of stares from the other crew members, some came with a smile, some with a disgusted look. It was like as if they knew what was going on. I guess it would be best for me to finally get to sleep. I can only hope tomorrow morning is nice.
