It was a hot summer's day with a gentle cooling breeze as the school bell ranged one last time for the students. Summer break had begun and everyone left the school eagerly with plans of future fun and relaxation. The busses were leaving one by one as the last of the walkers straggled along saying their goodbyes.
"Finally!" the young skunk said jumping for joy, "One more year here and we are done with school."
"What do you think comes after high school genius?" said the snake rolling his eyes and shaking his head.
"Parties!" he replied grinning back at the annoyed snake. "Calm down Ren you know I'm only joking." He said patting him on the back.
"Yeah, I'm wondering how many more of these jokes it will take before I lose my sanity..." he said.
"Oh by the way Ren wanna come over to my house? My parents are gone for the weekend for something, I forget at the moment, but all the same are you interested?"
"Sure, I got nothing better to do I suppose." He said as they continued the walked down the street.
"Oh yeah Tom!" he said tossing something at him, "Found your hacky sac on the ground you better be careful before it gets stolen."
"Yay, cool thanks we should really play sometime." he said with a mischievous grin plastered on his muzzle.
"Ha ha laugh it up furry boy!" he said walking past him.
"Hey I was only joking!" he said as they finally reached Tom's house. "Besides not my fault you have two left paws and no sense of balance."
The house was cool and comfortable as it had been void of life all mourning and most of the afternoon as the two quickly got settled. Most of the evening went by smoothly and felt like minutes. As they talked about the past, the fun they've had, and all the trouble they got into. Then moving on to videogames as they joked and played the evening away. Soon the food came and they had settle in the dining room eating away at the pizza they ordered across from each other.
"Hmm, I've always wondered," tom started then taking another bite, "What were you planning to major in Ren?"
Ren looked over with a slight look of shock. "A serious conversation, from you?" he smirked "I'm surprised."
"Well I'm just curious is all, we've been friends for so long I'm just surprised it never came up earlier." He said in his defense.
"True I guess, well I planned on majoring in psychology so I could be a counselor or a therapist one day. I'm even reading up on hypnotism."
"Oh really I've never actually been hypnotized before, have you?" he asked with a slight tilt of his head from curiosity.
"Nope." He said chewing on another slice. "I've only been reading about it for a few months I've never actually tested it on anyone."
The skunk went into the living room and sat back on the couch dropping his plate on the coffee table, lost in thought for a moment, "Hmm you can try it on me, to be honest I've always been curious how it felt to be hypnotized. It might be fun!" He said perking up and smiling.
Ren, having followed him to the other room, looked over in almost disbelief. "First you want to have a serious conversation then you want to be hypnotized by me and you looked serious for a moment there... are you sure your... yourself?" he said placing his paw on toms forehead.
"Yes I'm sure," he said moving Rens paw away "But if you don't want to that's fine I was just curious is all." He said leaning back on the couch.
"Hmmm," Ren started to dig round in his back pack "Got it!" He had pulled out a silver pocket watch, opening it to look at the time to see if it was still working and fooling around with it like he hadn't seen it in ages.
"A pocket watch, only nerds carry those around" Tom said rolling his eyes.
"Guilty as charged." he said unmoved by the obvious truthful insult. "Well to let you know at anytime you feel uncomfortable your able to tell me no and break out of the trance this is all based on whether or not you really wanna do it seeing as you can't hypnotize someone that doesn't want to be. Just had to let you know that before we start so let me know whenever you're ready!"
"Ok lets go, I'm ready." he said without hesitation a bit excited.
"Ok now I need you to watch the watch." He said as he began to swing it back and forth. The young skunk begins, following it with his eyes but also seeing his friend beginning to smiling in the background.
"That's a bad pun and you know it." he said grinning still watching the watch.
"Shut up..." Ren said shaking his head as he slightly sighed "Are you going take this seriously because we can stop here."
"Ok, ok I'll stop I promise, Cub Scout honor!" Tom said still smiling.
Ignoring that last statement Ren continued. "Relax now. I want you to take a deep breath with me." He said watching his friend's eyes follow the watch once again. "Now breathe in," he said doing the motion, "and breathe out." Tom began breathing with him in unison.
"Now each time you take a deep breath feel yourself becoming more relaxed as you still focus on the watch, and still listen to my voice." He said. After a few more swings he is noticed his friend's eye getting glassy as they started to fall to half open blinking to not fall asleep.
"It's ok if you feel tired it's natural don't fight it." he encouraged the skunk.
Tom was almost out of it, his tail already dropped out on the side of the couch as he felt himself sliding further into the sofa. He was almost out of it, his head slowly bobbing as he tried to keep his eyes open, and his arms hands limp beside him and his muzzle slightly open as he continues to breathe like instructed. Ren knew he was almost under.
"Now Tom I want you to count down from five. Each number will pull you in, further down to a deep sleep. You will still hear my voice and the watch will continue to swing in your mind understood. Do you understand?"
"Yes, count from five..." Tom said yawning.
"Ok lets start." he said.
"Five...four...three..." As he counted he felt the world around him drain away getting blurry, soon everything was fading to black as his eyes started to close. "two..." all was black except the watch it was there guiding him. "1.." the sound of soft breather and a the sight smiling snake was all that could be noticed in the house.
"Now I'm going to go get my stuff so I can spend the night at your house like we planned. You just rest here and let the watch guide you deeper in your trance till I return." He said laying the limp body of his friend in a better position on the couch.
He kissed Tom on the forehead "See you in a bit." he said taking the keys to the house and locking the door as he walked out.
