Dragons Never Burn (Prologue Idea)

This is a kind of Pilot for a series I plan on writing. This is just a beginning, but the world of this will expand as I write more and more. I just want to get some feedback before I get this whole thing rolling. Constructive criticism is very much appreciated!

I'm a dragon. I'm an old dragon, with many things to teach. A dragon without power, or without the power other dragons are born with. I'm a blank slate, I'm neutral, and the future is mine to protect.

My apprentice is the future. He has power beyond belief. He has a brilliant mind, he's caring, he protects those he cares about most.

A perfect, monstrous, abomination.

His power has only brought him to insanity. He thinks the world is against him, that he can control and dictate the world. And I have no doubt he can. He want's all beings to bow down to him, dragons and humans, even the gods themselves.

But as I look at him now, this may start with him, but it will end with or without him.

My name is Zennix Dennix, a dragon without power. I'm old, tired, and dull. The others all have a purpose. Dragons who are made to control water, fire, the earth itself and the air that surrounds it! But me? I wasn't born with that kind of power. I'm little more than a shell.

And I'm okay with that.

Lots of things have happened lately in this world. The war between the angels and demons has come to a halt. Dragons and humans have learned to coexist. New species have even been born into the world!

But me? I must sleep. Dragons such as me are known to sleep, rather than die. We reach an old age, and sleep forever. Maybe that was my purpose after all? To keep immense knowledge and experience locked away in a tired mind?

And that still doesn't bother me.

I decided to find my resting place, somewhere that could stand the march of time. I exited the run down cavern I called home, resting above the ocean waters that surrounded this island. The rocks in the water below were put in a perfect circle pattern, leading to an underwater air pocket. A perfect place for an uncomfortable nap.

I spread my tired arms and jumped, the urge to fall unconscious rising as I did. The water approached at a fast pace, reflecting off my bronze and copper colored scales. I saw a little flash of Red, then Blue, and then Gray in the corner of my eye.

I could only wonder what that was for half a second, before hitting the water, unconsciousness setting in fast.

My last thoughts at that moment? "Well, this sucks..."
