#2 of Eventful Voyages

The Creation story for Te'Rhun, setting for my Eventful Voyages story Series.

With my 'Eventful Voyages' storyline starting to actually take more shape, I figured it was time we filled out the world a bit more for all of you.

So I wrote up this short origin story on the creation of the world where all the stories take place. I hope you find it enlightening.

I also think that if this series keeps going the way I think it is I will do more of these to fill in the history, legends, and factions/politics of my world, which I'm now calling Te'Rhun.

If you haven't read any of the other stories I highly recommend you read them; here, here and here. :)

In the beginning, all was Void.

Within the Void existed two beings, Darkness, and Creation, what we now call Magic.

For a time, there was peace, for Darkness enjoyed the peace of Void, and Creation had no vision, and no purpose, so it was content to exist within the happiness of Darkness and drift within itself with nothing to create.

Such peace could not last though, for Creation was restless, and though Darkness tried to reassure Creation that all was well, Creation's drifting started to lead it to vision, and an image of what could be.

For Creation, what could be is the same as what is, so between one moment and the next, where once there was only void, Creation placed the sun, the moon, the stars, and all of the worlds, including ours, Te'Rhun.

Darkness was disturbed, as Void was now full of both Darkness, and things of Creation, but there was still peace, because Darkness filled the Void between all the things of Creation. The things of Creation moved through the Darkness, but they did not disturb it, and so Darkness left Creation to its new toys, and its new vision.

Creation's vision continued though, and once Te'Rhun was in the void, he saw how it could be better, and so Creation formed the rivers, the seas, the mountains, the forests, the plains, even the great tundras and deserts, for to Creation, they all held beauty.

Darkness continued to ignore Creations plaything though, for while Creation formed the things that scurry, fly, and swim to fill Te'Rhun, Darkness was content with filling the rest of Void with its peace. The creatures of Te'Rhun properly lived within the light of Creation and the Darkness of Void, because they had no knowledge of any other method of living.

Then the Gods came. We do not know if Creation's vision created the Gods, or whether Creation's acts brought them to our place, but the Gods saw the acts of creation, and Te'Rhun, and the Gods began to squabble, because they each wished to claim their precedence over the others, and make Te'Rhun their own. Creation was amused at the antics of the Gods, but the Gods squabbling disturbed Darkness, and so Darkness started to observe Te'Rhun as well.

The Gods wished the creatures of Te'Rhun to choose who would be their masters and guides, but Creation's vision did not include sentience, and so the creatures of Te'Rhun could not choose, they could not do more than live their lives in obliviousness of the bickering of the Gods.

This did not please the Gods, and so they resolved that they would give the beings of Te'Rhun a way to choose. They each selected a being of Te'Rhun that pleased them, and gave them what they believed was the 'gift' of Choice, though they each did so under the selfish needs that their Chosen would elevate them among the other Gods.

Rhun, hasty of temperament, with anger that could flare like the blaze and languish like the smoldering coals chose the felines of Te'Rhun and presented his Chosen before the other gods.

Laerin, wily and fluid of mind, who argued by twisting words and worming through the tightest loopholes in the other God's logic elevated the rodents and their kin.

Pel, placid of mind, but with patience that wore down the other Gods until they had no choice to accede to her arguments, chose those of hoof and hide, and elevated the Cows, the Horses, the Goats, and all those content with their lot.

Arn, who's mind could not stay on one topic but for moments, chose the flying creatures, because at the moment, they struck him as the prettiest, and they flew so close to the gods they were the easiest for him to touch.

Gerror, whom savored the quiet joy of sun, and the contentment of the passage of time, chose those scaled creatures when he saw them basking as well. He believed he found his perfect basking companions, and they would choose him as first, because they would enjoy basking with his godly form.

Finally, Oferra, who could not stand the bickering among her siblings, as she loved them all, but savored the homelands, and cherished loyalty, saw those of the canines, and she was pleased. She elevated them in the hopes that their loyalty would make them choose her, so she could settle the argument among her brothers and sisters.

Creation saw the changes of its beings, and it was pleased, for the Gods vision fuelled on Creation's own. Given the new vision of Choice Creation brought into existence creatures of Choice, not beholden to any gods. From Creation's new vision came what we now consider 'monsters', the Dragons, Hydras, Demons, and all those creatures that sprung into existence with the concept of Choice from Creation's new Vision.

Creation was not done with its vision though, for each time a creature of Choice came into being, they had their own vision. Therefore, Creation imbued the creatures of Choice with the ability to draw on Creation, both to feed its vision and to fuel their own vision and so fill Void. The creatures elevated by the Gods found their affinities to Creation matched the Vision of their patron gods, and so their magic became easier when allied with vision. This touch of Creation allowed all creatures of Choice to interbreed, and thus mix and strengthen their individual affinities to Creation.

With interbreeding, the affinities mixed and broadened, and though an individual creature of Choice might have a stronger affinity to the visions of Gods and Creation, some few found their affinity would span two, three, sometimes even more visions of the Gods and Creation.

As creatures of Choice spread and touched Creation, they filled the Void, which displeased Darkness, as they often sought to hold Darkness back, fill it, or dispel it all together. Darkness found its peace disturbed more and more as the creatures of Choice spread across Te'Rhun.

Eventually, the gods found another sister among them, though none had seen her before.

"Hello Little Sister, who are you?" They asked of their new sister.

"I am N'Till," their sister replied in a quiet voice.

The gods saw N'Till, and saw that while the Void filled with Creation among them, the Void filled with Darkness around her. This displeased them, but they stood over Te'Rhun and as custom demanded, asked,

"Sister N'Till, we have creatures of Choice on Te'Rhun. We ask them to tell us which one they wish to have among all others, but there is no one voice. Perhaps you can elevate a being, and your creature of Choice can break the tie."

The goddess shook her head, "I do not wish to be above all the others. I will not help you in your choice. I just wish peace, and quiet. So I do not elevate my own people, but I choose yours."

The other gods looked on in curiosity, "What do you mean sister?"

"I have blessed each of yours, individuals among your creatures of Choice, with Darkness...not Creation," she replied, "Darkness seeks the peace without Creation, and so those blessed with Darkness will have the ability to undo the Acts of Creation from your chosen. They will have the protection and strength of Darkness, so you can no longer fill Void with your own selfish desires."

The rest of the Gods were stunned, and they tried to turn on N'Till and destroy her with their connection with Creation. N'Till was connected with Darkness though, and though they were many, they were focused so much on their own Visions of Creation; they could not come together for one Vision without N'Till.

N'Till knew this, and so she was able to stop them with ease, though Darkness could not destroy them in return.

So N'Till's blessed among the creatures of Choice became those we now call Shadow Weavers, those with the ability to undo Magic and Creation, where Darkness itself comes forth to protect its chosen.
