#1 of Shading

The start of a new series I've been thinking of. I hope you all enjoy it! <3

It was all about careful lines. Just a gradual connecting of all the angles. A jot here, a sinuous curve there. Everything was coming together nicely. The soft scratching of the pencil was the sound of life being breathed into a page, a beautiful snapshot of the world being preserved for a moment.

A single..perfect..spot...there. Done. He uttered a contented sigh and took a look at his work, tilting his head back and forth for a moment.

Abel smiled. He loved it when something came out perfectly, although his drawings hardly ever came out otherwise. He had a photo perfect memory. The shapes..the contours..the beautiful angles that made up the world around him; they stood out to him. Called him to witness the little perfections that most people never noticed. Still, he had a meticulous nature which made him a sort of an oddball hyena, generally. He scanned the page for any errors and of course found none, sighing happily again.

He gazed down at the sheet in front of him. What had been a simple blank slate now depicted the couple he had seen walking out of the library holding hands. The girls face was turned, saying something as she smiled. He had luckily glanced up just in time to catch it. The way the morning light had been coming in through the glass doors had been at just the right angle, framing her soft features and creating a dazzling backdrop to her easy smile.

He smiled happily and flipped to the next page in his sketchbook. He pressed the tip of the pencil to the paper and began another series of gently connecting lines. He paused briefly, a small buzzing alarm of worry in his mind causing him to frown. He thought and tapped the page with the pencil. This had been happening all morning. Wasn't there something he was supposed to have done...?

The smooth silence was shattered as someone literally kicked open the library doors from outside. People ceased their quiet murmurs, the soft shuffling of pages and gentle scratching of writing utensils. One could almost track the sound wave as it radiated out by the turning of heads towards the doors. A solitary figure, outlined by the morning sun, stood there defiantly with paws on hips, gazing into the room and radiating a scarcely contained fury.

"All right...." The newcomer said in a growling tone that carried easily to the whole library, despite it's soft, feminine tone. "Where...IS....HE?!"

Abel gulped. That voice carried his doom in it. His white fur was standing on end now. He had been sitting on the ground, tucked away between two large bookshelves. Now, he was scurrying away on paws and knees, desperately trying to keep low. He quickly darted between another aisle of books. Did the library have a back exit? He'd never thought to check. He paused, breathing rapidly. Oh man...where..? He slowly peeked up, trying to see a route to safety.

He yelped, grimacing as he was suddenly hauled up by his messy, blonde headfur. He looked up slowly with a guilty, fearful smile. "H...hey..Nova." He swallowed.

The husky tilted his head slowly, holding up a pencil with his other paw and tapping it lightly against Abels nose, making it twitch. His eyes were half lidded, but gleamed with anger. "You dropped this..." He said in a soft, controlled tone.

"Th..thanks..." Abel replied, trying his best for a friendly tone. "I hate losing pencils.."

When he saw the huskies stoney expression become ever slightly more severe, he knew he'd probably said the wrong thing...

Shortly thereafter, he was sitting at a bench in the park adjacent to the library while Nova stood; angrily demanding an explanation that was sure to only make him more angry.

"Do you have any idea what a complete idiot I looked like last night? We were supposed to meet at the restaurant at. Seven. Thirty!!" He punctuated the last three words with a stamp of his foot. "John and Samantha stayed an extra half hour more and paid for my dinner when it was clear that you weren't going to show up at all!" Nova huffed out a long breath, nearly shaking with his temper.

"I told them they could finally meet you! They even cancelled other plans to make it!" He huffed again as he continued ranting, walking around and moving his paws in large, angry gestures.

As the tirade went on, Abel glanced gloomily at the husky. His white, fluffy fur was meticulously groomed as always and his black head fur was styled as such that it fell forward a bit, covering his left eye. If he didn't know better, he would've taken the canine for a slim figured female at first glance. Nova was wearing a close fitting, white T-shirt that exposed his smooth stomach and read "Your boyfriend isn't thinking about you right now" across the middle in red letters. His black miniskirt and red painted nails went perfectly with his black furred paws and ear tips.

Abel looked down at himself in contrast. His own simple white fur was clean, but not especially taken care of in any way. It had a yellowish tinge to it that made it a permanent dirty shade, making him come across as a scruffy layabout at first glance. Which wouldn't be too far off, really. He worked, but he spent most of his free time sitting in quiet corners, drawing. His apparel wasn't ragged, but he was dressed simply. A plain, grey T-shirt and jeans. That was all. People often said his bright yellow, golden shaded eyes were startling. He wasn't sure what to make of that.

He sighed mentally. Nova wanted glamour. He wanted dates outside with friends and dancing. The husky was energetic, friendly, outgoing, flirty and very loving. Abel....he wanted quiet. To enjoy the simple pleasure of drawing the world as he saw it. Content to watch it go by him as he captured its small moments. He leaned forward, the rough stone bench was causing his back to ache.

It was a beautiful morning. The sun was bright and warm in a cloudless sky. It seemed a stark contrast to his chuffing and raging femboy friend. The image was so strong, he itched to sketch it. But, to do so right now would be a cataclysmically disastrous idea. He took a strong mental impression for use later though. Gazing forward, thinking about what the picture would look like and examining the sharp gaze and stance the husky had been displaying a second ago, he barely finally noticed that Nova had stopped talking, and was staring straight at him with an eye that would fry him to a crisp if it were possible.

"So..." Nova said, flicking some of his headfur away from his left eye with one paw. "Nothing? Nothing to say at all to me?"

Abel rolled one shoulder uncomfortably, running a paw through his headfur, scritching nervously behind one rounded ear. "I...I'm really sorry Nova. I've just been so busy lately, you know...?"

That stirred some still smoldering embers inside the husky and new rage flashed hot in Novas features. "Busy! Yes, I know you're busy!" He turned his head sharply away from Abel. "I don't say anything when you forget our lunches together. Or when you don't return my calls or my texts sometimes. I don't mention it when you don't realize I've been speaking to you for a whole minute!" He slammed his paw on the arm of the bench in emphasis and seemed to regret it, shaking his paw slightly afterwards.

"I don't... because I know you're busy and distracted.." He gave a deep, shuddering sigh. "But you always seem to find time to draw. And you go out of your way to message that comic artist friend of yours..."

The embers died out completely this time, smothered by imminent tears. "It seems...you find time to fit the things and people you truly care about...so...I guess I just haven't realized until now where I fell in that regard.."

Nova turned to face Abel. The hyena had always enjoyed seeing the alternative colors there. A bright, emerald green on the left, a comforting amber gold on the right. Today, they cracked his heart like a hammer blow, glistening as they were and filled with hurt.

Nova smiled a broken, trembling grin that caused the shining tears to run freely and drip softly to the ground. "I'm sorry...I only wanted to share my life with you...I didn't know...that...you didn't really want any part of it..." With a hard sob, the husky turned suddenly and walked off.

He should've called out. Asked him to wait. Ran after him, anything. But he didn't. Why didn't he? He just sat quietly for a long time, watching the wind blow lines through the park grass. The silence was comforting and oppressive at the same time. Abel rubbed at his eyes. He didn't even have any tears. Why was that?

He sighed deeply, pulled out his sketchbook and started drawing absently.

Hours later, he was back at his apartment. He glanced around the room, not sure what to do with himself. He didn't have work today. Now that he thought of it, that was the whole reason they had scheduled the dinner date last night. He went to his room and sat down at his desk, not bothering to turn on the lights. There was still enough late afternoon light coming in from the windows to provide some dim visibility, gentle dust motes floating lazily through the sunbeam.

For the first time in a long time, he really looked at his surroundings. It was cluttered. Not dirty as such.. but clothes, papers, old projects and books lay strewn about carelessly. He always managed to instantly remember where he had last set something down; and so organization had seemed unnecessary to him. Nova had always chided him about the state of his home, saying that seeing things clean and neat just made you feel better, even if it wasn't always necessary. Why was it he could remember that he'd seen one of his pens fall and bounce underneath the bed four weeks ago, but the thought of an important date completely fled his mind on a regular basis?

He sighed and shrugged, sitting down at his computer and turning it on, loading up his instant messenger. He checked his messages. None from Nova. Not surprising, all things considered.

He paused, frowning at the screen. After a second or two he clicked on Novas profile and sent him a message: Nova, I'm sorry, please call me.

He waited a few moments and when nothing came in response, he sighed and sent a quick hello to his friend, InkWolf.

Abel to InkWolf: Hey you, what's up?

He didn't have to wait long for a reply. He loved that about Inky. He never gave up on him even when Abel didn't always reply in a timely manner.

InkWolf to Abel: Hey mutt. Not much, just hanging out really. Bored. *gropes*

Abel smiled, shaking his head. That horny wolf. Not that he minded it really, quite the opposite. He had only known the wolf for a short time, but he found he liked him quite a bit. Inky was a full blown artist for a very popular comic series. He was very good. Abel loved having someone to discuss his drawing with.

Abel to InkWolf: *giggles and smiles* XD did some new pics today, wanna see?

InkWolf to Abel: Damn right I do.

Abel scanned and uploaded the drawings he'd done today. He clicked send and waited for Inky's impressions

InkWolf to Abel: Those aren't the kind of pics I wanted. But still, very good. Your best yet, for sure.

Abel sighed and smiled again. He knew there would be no reasoning with the wolf in this state. He sent him the kind of pictures the wolf was talking about. One with Abel standing in the doorway naked, his semi hard shaft on display. Another with the hyena laying on his back, blushing slightly with his tight hole open and inviting.

InkWolf messaged back enthusiastically and they chatted back and forth in that manner until he found himself pawing off on camera for his friend. His breathing came deeper, the wolfs hungry eyes watching him on the screen spurring him to strong heights of arousal. His soft whimpers filled the quiet apartment. His paw slid over his member as large droplets of pre oozed out the tip, covering and slickening the aching shaft as he worked. His hips bucked slightly. He gazed at the screen, whimpering as he saw his friend stroking himself as well; That thick wolf cock accompanied by the fat knot at the base was mesmerizing. In his secret heart, he was incredibly submissive and Ink touched that part of him deeply.

His paw moved faster and faster. In his mind he suddenly saw the wolf bursting through his door, grey and white mottled fur bristling with aggression and bestial lust. He was on the smaller male in a few predatory strides. With a single paw he took Abel into a powerful grip, lifting him up and forward roughly against the wall.

He was a giant compared to the small hyena. Thick, strong muscles held Abel easily. There would be no escaping, not that he was especially trying to. Ink didn't talk. He didn't need to. He knew the slutty, submissive artist boy was his in every way. A growled command would be as binding to him as the wolfs iron grasp.

Ink only snarled as he pressed his large body close. Abel could feel something hard and slick pressed up against his lower back. "You want this, my little cock slut?" The wolf said in his strong baritone.

Abel gave a little squeak and nodded. "Y..yes...wolf.." he moaned. A growl of approval and Ink angled his hotly pulsing shaft at Abels tailhole, smearing the flowing globs of pre from his member around the tight, winking entrance. Abels breath was heavy and rapid in anticipation. "My good little toy..." Ink spoke softly. Then, in a single motion, he thrust his entire length inside, his crushing grip on Abel tightening even more..

Abel gasped loudly as his cock throbbed and covered his paw and stomach in his seed. He bucked his hips slightly before laying back and breathing slowly.

He glanced at his screen and saw the wolf reach his own climax, even giving a little howl as he came. Abel smiled slowly and switched off the webcam. After cleaning himself up, he told Ink that he had to get going for now, but promised to message him later.

InkWolf to Abel: You'd better.

Abel to InkWolf: *blushes * xD

Abel gave a deep stretch and got up. He looked at his phone. Still no messages from the husky. He sighed and scratched his head. He wasn't really sure what to do about this situation. Should he call? See what Nova was up to? It was now early evening. Many hours since Nova had walked off at the park. He might need a day to cool off...Abel decided to wait for now.

He switched on the light in his room and picked up a large sketch pad that had been on the floor, leaning against the computer desk. With little effort, he called up the image of Nova in his mind, glaring in the park. Abel hoped he was okay...maybe he had really messed things up this time..

Nova sat on his plush, velvety and red colored sofa, giving his phone an angry and frustrated glare as it sat on the coffee table. That stupid, forgetful, absent minded, wonderful, sweet, handsome...jerk. He sat with his arms and legs folded, tapping his fingers rapidly on his arm. "Call me." Call me, he says. After all the times Nova has sent that same message, only to be ignored for long periods. Well, we'll see how he likes it. "Maybe I'll go take a bath, or read or something." Nova thought to himself, "And then be all like 'oohh, noo, sorry I was just so busy, you know?' " The husky chuffed at the thought, his tail swishing once in anger.

He should. He totally should. Yet, as the minutes ticked by, he'd done nothing but continue to stare at his phone. What was he doing? Waiting? Growling, Nova leaned forward suddenly and snatched up the phone, intending to just turn it off and head into the bathroom to get ready for bed. His thumb paused over the power button, and with another annoyed growl he instead slid his thumb across the screen, unlocking it and pressing the icon to give Abel a call.

It rang for a while before going to voicemail. Typical. Nova slowly shook his head as he looked down at the floor, running his bare footpaws through the slightly thick, brown carpet. As Abels voice informed Nova that he wasn't there to answer, those hot, angry coals in the pit of his stomach started smoldering again. Just as the beep sounded to leave a message, Nova took a deep breath preparing to let his boyfriends electronic twin know just where he could shove that phone if it wasn't going to be used.

"Abel I...!" His breath faltered, and blew out in a rush along with the hot anger. "I'm sorry. Just...I'll see you tomorrow. Okay? Just...gah! I love you, you idiot. I'm going to sit and smack you until I feel better, is all. Goodnight." Nova tapped the screen to end the call and fell back into the sofa with a tired groan as the thick back partially enveloped him. Damn me for a fool, he thought. Why do I put up with this?

Nova rubbed between his eyes and extricated himself from the seat, giving a long stretch as he stood and his canine muzzle opening wide in a deep yawn. A bath then, before bed.

He walked tiredly down the hallway, sighing for the thousandth time at the decor of his uncles house. Muted oranges, reds and yellows, all accentuated by brown carpeting. It hurt ones eyes just to walk around here. When had anyone thought these colors were pleasant together? As he reached the bathroom at the end of the hallway and stepped inside, he was greeted with the faded yellow and white design scheme of a woefully misled generation. At least he didn't have to pay rent to stay in this eyesore.

Nova filled up the bath with steaming hot water and lowered the lights slightly. That was one thing he did love about the house. Nova could only imagine his uncles antics in his younger years, judging by all the mood lighting in every room of the house. He smirked at the thought.

He groaned pleasurably as he sank into the comforting water, trying to let his stress and worry ebb out of him. But of course, his thoughts kept drifting back to Abel.

The cloud drifting hyena drove Nova crazy on a regular basis. But, there was something Nova saw in him that was irresistible. He couldn't quite pin down what it was. There was a gentle, caring nature that Abel exuded that Nova appreciated. He had a different way of seeing the world that was mysterious and wonderful. They had met in a drawing class they shared and Nova had been naturally pulled toward the quiet, cute looking boy, who'd always had a distant look about him.

It seemed a match made in Heaven. Abel was a phenomenal artist, wanting to make graphic novels someday as a living. Nova was a writer, maybe not the best, but decent and getting better with time. They had started talking. Well, Nova had done most of the talking. After a few months their relationship of close friendship had started to form.

Nova glanced up to the framed picture he had hung on the bathroom wall. Specifically so he could gaze at it in moments like this, and remember. It was picture of Nova, but despite Abels protests otherwise, It was not a picture of how Nova looked in any real sense.

In the picture, Nova was leaning forward, smelling some of the flowers in his backyard garden. Abel had been there that day, just hanging out, and had captured that tiny little moment. But the Nova in this picture was stunningly beautiful. Shaded expertly to show the soft sheen of fur, his pleased smile as he enjoyed the simple pleasure of a sweet scent. The sunlight was flowing over his muzzle and his eyes were closed in delight, his long lashes curled ever so carefully. The plants were subtly turned towards him, as if all the world were coming together for the sake of this huskys happiness.

Nova had a hard time believing that Abel really viewed him that way. But on that day, Abel had been unusually flustered after finishing his picture. He'd looked at Nova with a blush so deep, Nova had been able to see it clearly under the hyenas white fur.

"H..here..." He'd said, carefully tearing the sheet of paper from his sketchbook. That in and of itself had been shocking. Abel hardly ever tore his pages, and he certainly never gave his drawings away to anyone. Nova had gingerly taken the page and looked down. His breath had caught, looking at a portrayal of himself done with such care. Down on the bottom of the page was Abels flowing script. The way he could sign something was almost a beautiful art form itself as well. Written there was..

Nova, I love you.

_ ~Abel_

Blinking back tears, Nova had gently set the page down on the nearby wooden table, placing a thick book on gardening he'd had out there on top of one corner, to keep it safe. Then he'd slowly padded towards the blinking and fidgety boy, and given him the hottest, most intense kiss probably either of them had ever felt in their lives. It'd gone on for long moments; building and flowing and raising in intensity, Novas arms wrapped tightly around the back of Abels. The normally reserved artist had flared in a display of passion; roughly grabbing Nova around the waist and pulling him hard against his chest. After a blissful eternity, they'd slowly parted soft, gasping lips. With a euphoric giggle flowing out with his words, Nova had muttered, "I love you too.."

Nova let out a long breath, running his paws through his headfur, getting it damp. Things had been great for a long while. But lately they've been hitting these snags. Abel was so....unfocused. It was hard to move forward anymore with the relationship. Nova had goals, plans he wanted to accomplish in life and he desperately wanted Abel by his side as he worked towards them. But things seemed to have plateaued between them and it was causing a cooling that was saddening to the husky. Nova tried hard to grip tightly to his love, bring him back close like they had been, but events kept flowing through his paws like loose sand. Abel seemed to be getting farther and farther away from him somehow.

He began sliding down, intending to sink his head beneath the water and try to just zone out for a little bit. But then, he heard his phone buzz from atop the wooden stool on the side of the tub. Maybe it was Abel. Nova felt relief building in his chest. He wanted to apologize for everything he'd said. Everything. He'd suggest coming over quickly and maybe just cuddling the rest of the night away.

He leaned up out of the bath and dried his paws on towel hanging on the wall. He picked up his phone and looked at the message there. It was not from his Abel, sadly. Instead, it was that friend of his. Went by the name of InkWolf. Nova never really had gotten his real name. How had he gotten Novas number? They didn't really speak much. Nova was admittedly jealous of all the time Abel spent talking to this guy. But didn't have any real reason to dislike him.

Hey there, cutie. It's InkWolf, Abels friend? Whatcha up to?

Nova leaned over the side of the tub, messaging back that he was just getting ready for bed. InkWolf messaged back a rather flirty response that made Nova giggle in surprise. Chatting back and forth while the bath water cooled, Nova didn't notice at all that the first piece of a cascading series of events had just begun to crumble.

End of Part 1.
