Arin decides to turn his life around, much to Ewan's happiness, but how happy is Ewan in reality?

'The Times They Are A Changin'' is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1963, released on his 1964 album of the same name. A classic protest song, in this respect it depict's Arin's readiness to face his demons.

More to come.

3 - The Times They Are A Changin'

The bridge. Their bridge.

Arin and Ewan stood in the middle of the bridge, it stretched from either side of the harbour and gave a beautiful view across the city, especially at sunset, as it was now. This was the friends' safe spot, they had come here very often during their lives, when Arin felt sad, or they just fancied a walk. It was quite a lengthy, but satisfying walk from their homes and really calmed them down in times of angst. They stood together, close, as they looked across the bay and the cityscape, the sky and clouds were a canvas of orange and pink, the glow from the sun altering the natural colour. The brotherly bond they had kept them warm under the slight breeze rolling in off the ocean.

Ewan looked down at Arin, smiling and studying the rabbit's face. Arin just looked over the view in front of him, imagining what it would have been like if there was no city or anything man made. The wolf stopped himself from giggling at the look of pure concentration planted on the bunny's face.

Their thoughts were interrupted by a low rumbling and a slight vibration coming through the ground. They stepped apart from each other and looked confused as the rumbling increased and the vibrations shook dust from the iron ropes above. The cars that had been driving on the road behind them slowed to a stop, with many people getting out and looking around at what was going on. The noises and vibrations stopped, and a strange calm ensued over the small population gathered on the old iron suspension bridge.

With a mighty crash and twang, like a giant guitar string breaking, the immense iron 'strings' started to snap, sending sharp pieces of metal flying into car windscreens and people, breaking their backs and impaling them, killing them instantly. Screams started echoing around and many people started jumping back into their tin death machines to drive away. Ewan grabbed Arin close to him in a vain attempt to protect him from the flailing metal ropes. The earthquake, or whatever it was, returned much more violently. Their vision was jolted up and down as the bridge shook. An extremely loud 'crack' was heard, flinging Arin and Ewan apart. Where they had stood a large rift was beginning to form, right across the width of the bridge, it was slowing pulling apart as the metal screamed and moaned. Ewan jumped up and ran to the edge, the gap must have been about 5 feet and getting larger by the second. His eyes were wide with adrenaline and fear. 'Arin! Quickly! Jump across!' He shouted.

Arin lay on the ground, dazed from the shock, seemingly unable to move. All around him was chaos, people running, dodging the cars and flying debris, voices screaming to one another and in general fear. He clambered to his feet, stumbling around, trying to gain his focus. He looked to where he had been standing and noticed the now 7 foot wide gash in the iron, lifting his head he saw Ewan shouting at him, he didn't hear him, just saw him. He stared at him with a confused look on his face. Ewan turned and started walking away, making Arin even more confused. Ewan turned and faced him again, he started running, sprinting, at the gap. Arin's senses all came flooding back like a wave over a pebble beached, the world became audible and time sped up as he realised what was happening. He took a few steps forward, about to call out and stop Ewan, but it was too late. The snow-white wolf leapt high into the air, sailing across the precipice, body fully stretched out, revealing his muscular torso. His paws were fully extended to reach for the other bank, which was now 10 feet away. Arin held his breath as Ewan practically flew, then started to descend, then... disappeared.

Arin gasped and threw himself on the ground, looking over the edge, to see Ewan falling onto the jagged rocks below. His body was limp, the low tide lapping at his legs, before pulling him under to his watery grave.

Arin sat up straight in bed, panting heavily and sweat dripping off of him, soaking his hospital gown and the sheets. His eyes were wide and darting around the room as he gathered his bearings, heart pumping furiously. He was still in the private hospital room, stripes of sun light were shining through the venetian blinds, casting odd shadows along the floor and walls. His heart beat started to return to normal as he got his bearings.

Ewan jolted forward and grabbed the rabbit when he saw him suddenly awake. 'Shh, it's okay Arin, it was just a dream, you're here now.' He felt Arin relax slightly as he returned to his senses, looking at Ewan.

He then started to sob, tears falling down his face, shivering and trying to pull away from the comforting wolf. 'N...No, Ewan no. I can't have you around anymore, I'm hurting you too much, please, leave, you'd be better off without me.'

'Arin? Wh...what are you saying? Where did this come from?' Ewan sounded concerned and a little hurt.

'Th...The dream. You, I... You died, I couldn't save you...' He lowered his head, tears falling onto the bed as he recounted the events of the dream to the wolf, who just sat there, silent.

'Arin... it was just a dream. You had a nightmare, that's all, I'm not going to leave you on your own because you couldn't save me in a dream. I... care about you too much to do that to you. This is all the more reason you need to see a psychiatrist.'

Arin looked up at him, wiping a tear away from his cheek fur. He smiled weakly 'Thank you, Ewan, what would I do without you, big bro?'

Ewan pulled Arin into another protective hug, he knew Arin meant it in a kind and loving way, but being referred to as the rabbit's 'big brother' was like being stabbed in the heart. He needed to be with Arin so much, but being seen as a brother just wasn't enough. He felt the sting of tears in his eyes, which he quickly suppressed as Arin began to speak, still in their embrace.

'What time is it?' He asked quietly.

'About 11am.' Ewan replied softly.

At that moment there was a knock on the door. The two boys separated, Ewan standing by the side of the bed. The doctor walked in, with a smile. 'Ahh, Arin, you're awake, good. You seem to be in much better health, excellent.' He strode over to the bed and ran a few tests just to be sure. 'Ok boys, you can come in.' There was a shuffling at the door, and Arin's band members walked in. Joe, the Dalmatian and the band's drummer, Jack, an otter and one of the guitarists, Damian a lion and the group's bassist, and finally followed by the band's manager, Brian, a tall and handsome deer. Jack and Damian were carrying a ridiculously huge plush teddy bear between them, at least as tall as Arin, and probably the same weight.

Arin tried to keep a serious expression, but couldn't help but laugh. 'What the fuck is that?'

Jack grinned, a little nervously. 'Heh, we... thought you could do with a present, so we bought you this little fella.'

Arin laughed. 'Are you serious? Little? Where the hell am I going to keep him?!'

Damian perked up 'Oh, it'll be great! He can have a little corner in the tour bus, and I promise I'll take him for long walks, and feed him, and take him to the vet's...'

'H...how are you Arin?' Joe asked, obviously very nervous to be in the hospital, especially when one of his best friends was lying in the bed. He'd interrupted Damian, and Arin turned to look at the Dalmatian, his smile fading slightly.

He sighed. 'I'm okay. Ewan stayed with me and made sure I was safe. I think I've got the all clear though, right doctor? And I need to talk to you guys, it's urgent.' The 3 boys and manager exchanged some confused looks.

'Yes, you're fine to go, I'll just go and get your discharge papers. Your clothes are in that bag over there, along with the rest of your belongings. I'll be back soon.' He pointed to a dresser on the opposite side of the room, a plastic bag held all of the items Arin had been brought in with. Arin thanked the senior doctor as he left. He turned back to the 4 guys crowded around the bed, all with varying degrees of concern on their faces.

'What's up, Arin?' Brian asked, in his smooth and velvety voice.

Arin sighed. 'I've talked to Ewan, and... he really wants me to go and see a psychiatrist. I... agree with him. I need help guys, I can't face this on my own any more.'

Damian started to laugh, a bit inappropriately, considering the situation. 'I'm sorry, but this is quite funny.' Arin looked a bit shocked. 'We were going to tell you that we wanted you to see a therapist, that we were concerned not only for your mental health, but what taking all these drugs is doing to you physically.' He started off smiling, but then became more dark at his confession. The others nodded in agreement.

Arin was touched. 'Thank you guys, that means a lot to me. That's not all though. I need some time off. I want to cut the tour short. I need at least 2 months off.'

The rest of the band members looked shocked, but Brian was calm and smiled. 'Are you sure Arin? There will be a lot of disappointed fans.'

'I know, but if I do this, I will be able to deliver better concerts, make more people happy, and most importantly, I will be happier.'

'That's fine, Arin. The press are at the hospital entrance, you can announce it to them when you leave. As long as you guys are okay with it?' Brian turned to the rest of the band members.

'Of course! We want you to get better man, we want to see you happy.' Jack answered. The other guys nodded.

'Okay, thank you so much everyone. Besides, we can use this time to write some new songs.' Arin started to get out of bed and grabbed his clothes, pulling them on, noticing the slight blood stain on the collar of his t-shirt.

The doctor walked back in the room. 'Okay Arin, if you could just sign here please.' Arin signed. 'Thank you, you can leave when you're ready. I've given Ewan some pamphlets about helping you with your drug problem, and I've recommended some very good psychiatrists.'

'Thank you again doctor.'

'It's no problem.' He left.

Arin turned to face the everyone. 'Okay then. Let's go and face the paparazzi...'

*****

The 4 band member walked outside, along with Brian and Ewan. The flash from the cameras and the shouts of the press were very disorientating to Arin and, along with the sudden fresh air, made him feel quite dizzy. Brian noticed he was in distress and walked in front of the rabbit. 'If you would all refrain from using flash photography, Mr Gray has had an extremely stressful night, and the bright lights are causing him discomfort. Furthermore, there will be no questions. Mr gray will give his announcement and is going to leave promptly.' Several of the press lowered their cameras and mumbled in annoyance. 'Thank you.'

Arin stepped to the front, to address the crowd. 'It is common knowledge that I have a problem. It had only just become apparent to me how this problem affects those around me, those who care for me. I am a drug addict. I have been for about a year and half now. As Dylan once said 'The Times They Are A Changin'' It is finally time that I accepted responsibility and sought help for my addiction. I, with support from my closest friend, will be seeing a psychiatrist in an attempt to come to terms with my issues. To do this however, I will not be able to continue with current tour schedule. As this is such, and I have talked with my band mates, who all agree with my decision, We will be stopping the current tour until further notice.' There was a flurry of excitement and noise from the gathered press, as they quickly started shouting out questions and taking more intrusive photographs. Arin raised his voice so he could be heard. 'I apologise to all my fans, who will all be refunded, but this is something I really must do, in the hope of having a safer, more stable future, so I can continue to bring you the music I love. Thank you, I shall keep you updated.' With that the 6 of them walked over to a nearby limousine and climbed in, ignoring the shouts from the paparazzi. They felt safer once the stretched car pulled away, the crowd of press dispersing behind them.

'So? Do you concede?'

'Alright! Alright! Haha, you're stronger than me, I admit it!' Arin squirmed in Ewan's tight headlock, trying to pull away from the wolf's strong arms, but to no avail.

'Very well.' Ewan let the rabbit go and they sat back down on the long leather sofa, panting after the excursion. They often did this, got into little play fights, both the boys really loved it, it was as if they were 12 again. It also gave Ewan an opportunity to touch and rub against the love of his life, without it being too obvious, this time was no different, he sighed as his erection rubbed against his jeans. He got up off the sofa and headed to the bathroom. They were in Arin's penthouse suite in the heart of the city, it was magnificent and gave views across the water and the miles of man-made structures. It was an extremely modern apartment, fit with a state of the art entertainment area and a recording studio. Ewan lived with Arin, he had ever since Arin left his aunt Matilda to pursue his music career, they kept each other company, but the closeness was killing Ewan, it pained him to be so close to his love most of the time. He would get extremely jealous and depressed whenever Arin brought home a boy, usually one of his fans or just someone he met at a club somewhere. Ewan would have to go to the other side of the flat so the sound of his friend's ass being fucked didn't turn him on and make him do something he'd regret. The truth is, Ewan had never been with anyone, he knew it was stupid, but he really was saving himself for Arin, he just longed for that day when he could be with the one person that could make him happier than anyone in the world, but was currently crushing his heart on a daily basis.

He walked into the bathroom and lowered his jeans and slightly damp boxer shorts to around his ankles as he sat on the toilet bowl, idly stroking his throbbing member. He closed his eyes and rested his back against the cistern, spreading his legs a little so more air could reach his tender balls. He sighed as he coaxed his precum out the end of his erection. Living with the love of your life was extremely difficult, and only having your paw to help you deal with those emotions was extremely difficult for Ewan, he found that it really did not satiate the urges, he needed Arin. Even just pawing off with Arin would be better than nothing, but Arin never afforded him that luxury, despite them being extremely close through puberty and when both of them had been exploring and coming to terms with their sexuality.

Ewan sighed and gripped the base of his already protruding knot. God, that session with Arin had really turned him on, it usually did, but not this much, then again, after the stress of the previous day he had not had a chance to paw-off. He built up a steady rhythm, the rough pads on his paw providing extra stimulation to the sensitive erection. The copious amounts precum were soaking into the wolf's white fur, matting it slightly and providing lubrication for his stimulation. He pictured Arin in his mind, that slender body, the beautifully soft off-white fur, the floppy ears. His rubbing became harder and more eager. He remembered all the times they had gone swimming together, when they changed together and Ewan could take a quick look at Arin's sheath and tight balls. He felt his cock become even harder, his orgasm building deep inside him. The last image he held was one of his most dear memories, they had been building snowmen one day, and Arin had lost his gloves, but being young he didn't care, and played in the snow until his paws were numb from the cold. Ewan brought the frozen rabbit close to him and grabbed his paws, stuffing them under his layers of clothes, right onto his belly fur, the cold felt nice against his stomach, and it warmed Arin's paws up. They stood so close together, it was that moment where Ewan realised his affection for Arin. His cock throbbed and twitched in his paw as he shot his warm thick seed in long ropes over his paw and onto the bathroom floor. A single tear rolled down his cheek at the fond memory. His powerful orgasm subsided and he sat there for a few moments, in afterglow, his rapidly deflating cock in his paw, eyes closed and breathing heavily.

Once he came back to his senses the oh-so-familiar feeling of disappointment and sadness hit him like a wave. He wiped the cum from the floor. He had shot quite a lot, he obviously needed it. Pulling up his boxers and jeans he went over to the sink and gave his paws a quick wash. He looked at himself in the mirror, more emotions hitting him, which lead to more tears forming in his eyes. He put his weight on either side of the basin, taking deep breaths and trying to calm down. He splashed some water on his face, mainly to hide the tears, before heading back out into the enormous flat. He loved Arin so deeply, and was glad he had finally decided to turn his life around, but he had no idea how much more of this life he could take.
