Chapter Five:

A new friend

Jake POV

I woke up early in the dawn, and the first thing I saw was Lily sleeping on top of me (not in that way, don't overthink). I yawned and shook her until she woke up too. She looked quite tired, and I supposed that it might be because she woke up during the night.

"Good morning, Lily!" I greeted, getting myself up.

"G-g-good morning Jake." She replied, quite embarrassed for some reason, and turned to try to hide a blush.

"Is something wrong?" I asked suspiciously.

"N-n-no, everything is alright." She told me, waving her little hands.

"Come on Lily, not again; you know you can't lie to me." I said, but she still looked like she's ashamed of something. "But it's okay if you don't want to tell me, I won't search for your secrets."

"Thanks Jake." She said, finally turning to me. "I like it that you won't be so meticulous and try find out about everything that happens to me."

"You can tell me if you feel like; I'm all ears." I told her.

"Okay." She said. "Hey! We are going to lose the sun rise!"

"And that's not gonna happen!" I said, getting up. "Come with me!"

We both scaled a tree and managed to catch the rising sun just in time. It was really beautiful, even better now with the golden hue. Lily didn't seems to be appreciating it that much though; she was staring into the distance, obviously with other thoughts in her mind. When the sun rose completely, I jumped down from the tree.

"I'm going to prepare some breakfast." I shouted while entering in the tent. Pulling out a mess tin, a packet of cereal and some milk powder, I was just about to start mixing the ingredients when a shout echoed through the forest.

"Jake come here, quick!" I managed to make out Lily's voice.

"I'm coming!" I dashed out of the tent and saw Lily tending to a Starly. "What's going on?"

"This Starly is injured! Please do something!" She said, kneeling next to the Starly.

"Right now!" I rushed back to the tent and grabbed my bag, emptying its content in search for a potion or something. At the bottom I found the best of the best: a Full Restore. I picked it up, ran to the site and knelt next to the Starly. "Don't worry friend, you're going to be okay."

"Don't get close, human." He replied, trying to move away, "You'll capture me just like the ones who ambushed my family in the nest."

"Your family was ambushed?" Lily repeated. "By who?"

"Only humans of course, they're all the same!" He shouted, "So don't come near to me!"

"Just shut the fuck up!" I couldn't hold my urge to swear. "I'm not like them and I'll prove it right now!" With that, I sprayed the Full Restore over him. When he felt perfect again, I was angry "Where are the humans who attacked your family?"

"They are in the woods, why?" He asked suspiciously.

"I'm going to deal with them." I told while entering in the tent. After dressing up, I put my sable in my belt and came out. The Starly was still there. "Guide me to them and I will get your family free."

"What? Are you crazy?" He said, quite shocked. "Why would you do something like that?"

"It's because your family is in danger, and you need help." I replied, turning to head into the woods.

He seemed a little hesitant but started to fly toward the forest anyway. I followed him, but then I remembered something. "Lily," I said, turning my head to her, "pack the tent, and when you are ready, return to me. You won't have any trouble to find me, just trust in what your soul tells you." I turned again and started to follow the Starly. Soon enough, we were in the bushes beside a clearing, looking on as two men dressed in strange uniforms conversed.

"That was the easiest capture I had made in my life." One of them remarked.

"Definitely; you'll never expect that a Staraptor would let us capture it just to save its child." commented the other one.

"HEY YOU ASSHOLES..." I shouted at them, entering the clearing while unsheathing my sable. "SET THAT FAMILY FREE OR YOU WILL PAY FOR IT!"

"The 'hero' is finally here, eh?" One of them got up and mocked. "What are you going to do if say... We refuse?"

"Yes, what you are going to do?" Said the other.

"THEN I'LL SET THEM FREE BY MYSELF!" I said, charging towards them. They were obviously surprised, and before they could react I was next to them, starting to attack them without break. Just like the last time that I used it, my sable turned black with every thrust and returned to his silver color when I pulled it away from them. They tried to resist, but within a few strikes they were on the ground, weakened with confused expressions.

"What are we doing here?" Said one of them.

"I don't know; and you?" the other answered.

The sight was strange indeed; when I fought with the Houndoom and the Mightyena they only ended up unconscious, not with amnesia. I thought about this for a few moments before reaching a plausible answer: I supposed that when I destroyed the evil in their hearts, they lost the memories of every bad things that they did.

"Hey guys..." I said, turning their attentions upon me, "...are you okay?"

"Yes but what happened to us?" asked one of them.

"You were walking through the forest when some thieves attacked you." I lied to avoid the evoking their memories. "They stole your clothes and put the ones they were wearing on you, but they forgot these stolen Pokéballs."

"Oh, you mean these." The other said, showing me the Pokéballs. "If they are stolen then take them, we have our own Pokémon."

"Thanks man." I said, grabbing the capture devices. "The nearest town is in that way so..." I pulled out my wallet and gave them some money, "...go there and get some new clothes and hair styles. Ah, I almost forget it, your names are Mike Wilson," I pointed to one of them, "and you are John Russell." I told the other.

"Thanks, we won't forget this." They grabbed the money, "See you around em... what's your name?" The one whom I called Mike asked me.

"Jake Coen, but that's not important." I told them. "Good luck guys." I waved my hand to say good bye as they trekked back to the path. When they disappeared in the woods, Lily arrived with my bag.

"Sorry for being late, I had troubles folding the tent." She explained. "And where are the people who attacked the Starly's family?"

"They are far from here now." I said, pointing to the trees. "I erased their memories with my sable when I destroyed the evil within them, and most importantly I retrieved this." I said, showing the Pokéballs. "Can you get me some potions from my bag?"

"Yes, just give me a second." She said, using her psychic powers to get the medicine. "Alright, I've got them."

"Thanks, now let's do this." I opened the Pokéballs, from which a Staraptor and two Staravia came out. "Okay, take it easy, let me attend to these wounds." I sprayed a potion on every one and suddenly the Starly landed at my side and went toward them.

"Mommy, daddy, brother are you okay?" He asked.

"Yes, thanks to this human." Said the Staraptor, "Who is he, son?"

"He is the same human who healed my wounds and fought those people to save you." He said, "He did it with to not let our family get destroyed by some bad guys."

"Is that true?" Asked one of the Staravia with a feminine voice, "Thanks for saving us."

"I'm not done yet." I replied, "You were still caught by these Pokéballs, so..." I let them fall to the ground before breaking each with a stomp. "There, now you are free."

"Thanks, for everything" said the other Staravia.

"I just have to do what I must do." I commented. "Well that's all. Lily, come on, we are going."

"Okay." Lily stayed quite during the whole conversation. "Take, this is heavy." She said, handing me my bag.

"He he, sorry for that." I grabbed it. "Well, that's it, goodbye!"

"Wait! I want to go with you." The Starly said. "Please let me go with you!"

"Are you sure? Because then you will be far from your family." he nodded with determination in his eyes. "Well, it was your decision. If you are so sure, tap this button." I said, pulling out a Pokéball. He tapped the button immediately and was swallowed by the ball, which shook three times before making the 'ding' noise. I released it immediately and he appeared to be really happy. "Welcome to the team, but now you'll need a name. What about Sky?"

"It is a great name!" He said, jumping in ecstasy. "From now on my name will be Sky!"

"Congratulations!" Lily said, "My name is Lily and it's a pleasure to have you in the family."

"Thanks Lily. I'll get used to this very soon." He affirmed. "And where are we going?"

"To Jubilife city," I said, pulling out my map, "and we should be quite nearby now."

"Indeed, but there is a shortcut." Sky told me, "Give a second, I'll look for it." He took of a flew for a few minutes out of sight before coming back and hovering above us. "Over there, follow me"

"Good luck, brother!" said Sky's brother.

"Fight until the end." His father added.

"And remember that we will love you forever." Ended his mom.

"Thanks." Sky replied them, "Now we need to go, goodbye." he started to fly away while Lily and I started to follow him.

Within less than an hour of running behind Sky, we finally found ourselves at the gates to Jubilife city. It was still early, however; as such, we had lunch, stocked up our supplies and enjoyed a bit of rest before deciding to move on to Orebugh City. With our determination to get my first badge, Sky's help in route finding and Lily's ability to easily defeat the Zubats in the cave, we moved through the relatively short route 203 quickly. As we emerged from the Orebugh end of the cave, we discovered that there is no need to switch off our headlamps; it was already 9PM. Dragging our exhausted bodies to a hotel, we entered and rented a suite for the night. Heading straight to the room, I took a quick shower, put on my pajamas and let myself fall onto the bed. Lily climbed to my chest, as usual, while Sky positioned himself on a desk.

"Good night Lily, and you too Sky." I said. "Rest well; tomorrow we will fight for the first badge."

"Okay." They answered promptly. I smiled and let the dreams embrace me. Unexpected events, however, could never seem to get away from me; why, I should have expected another one tomorrow.

Danny: HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE

Romeo: Shut up! You still dare to laugh when you are, like, so late with the editing of this one! I can't even keep count of how late it is!

Danny: Well, I am free from a lot of other commitments now, and can finally start working on Soul Link again, so why not be a little happy?

Romeo: You... Never mind. Anyway, since that's so, we'll hopefully be able to continue the series a little quicker for you readers!

Xellan: I hope so. And now...

Romeo&Danny&Xellan: Goodbye readers!.
