A New Forest

Kasvane & Story (c) Russet'13

Faint rustling amongst the ground level foliage was the only sign of Alares passage as he walked through the sweltering, humid heat of the islands jungle. The vast expanse of trees formed a ring around the central peak that rose from the centre. The tall mangrove trees and vast tropical plants mixed with palm trees grew more numerous the closer you got to the beach. The coast of the island was a mixture of white sand, tall, tree lined cliffs or rocky inlets that were the outlets for the rivers that meandered through the jungle. It was all very beautiful but for Alare the beauty was marred by the total absence of sentient life. As he moved through the brush, feet gripping and sliding through the soft loam that covered the floor he brooded on what their choices were. The sun broke through a gap in the trees, warming the young kasvane's purple skin, making the plant-boy tingle all over as his body turned the bright glow into fuel and food. Everything had changed since the day when he first woke up, the memories of his former life had faded further and he'd embraced his new existence fervently. But in the three weeks since his rebirth the itch to spread, to plant seeds and grow was stronger than ever and on this island there was no way to fulfil that urge.

Digging his root like feet deeper into the soil Alare shivered in delight, it still felt so good to do this. The forest sang to him from all directions and he could feel the animals and birds and the warm presence of the Mother Seed nestled in the back of his thoughts. It was good to be alive and he was thriving in this heat; he just wished he could grow their people. Turning his head he watched a patch of foliage just above, waiting and in a few moments his sixth sense was rewarded as his mate and partner Kriner moved into view. His rougher, bark covered purple body was easily swinging from branch to branch. Then he all but walked down the tree trunk with the vines that sprouted from his back. As he landed he reached out one of his tentacles to gently brush the flower bud atop Alare's head which made the plant boy squirm.

"Hello love, what brings you out here, I thought you were going to stay at home?" Kriner asked as he moved over to wrap his arms about his boy and pressed his snout against the top of his, "I've got a good idea for building a boat; we just need some way to carry fresh water."

"I know but Kriner I checked, the house has been emptied, there isn't anything suitable not for a voyage of weeks. They knew what was happening to us, they made sure we couldn't get off the island and spread."

Frowning the larger Kasvane shook his head, "We can't give up... we need to get off the island and take the mother seed with us to a new home and grow ourselves a family to help protect and nurture our people. It's our purpose."

Alare nodded and turned to look out through the trees toward the ocean, "I know... I want to... so much..." his vines spread wide, twitching, the tips growing fuzzy and dusting his thick yellow pollen into the air. "I know my love... we exist to grow together but... I don't know what to do, we can't set sail without a good supply of water and even if we make a boat or a raft we can't store nearly enough. Not for us and the Mother Seed."

Kriner twitched his vines angrily and frowned at sea, "I can't believe they'd cut us off like this, just give us up as lost and leave. We deserve the chance to live, to spread and grow our people. Just because we are different though they ran away scared and made sure we wouldn't be able too, it's not right!"

Stroking his mates cheek Alare stood on too toes and kissed the end of his snout, "I agree love, but they are not our family now and we aren't their sons. But we won't give up, we'll find a way to reach the main land and grow."

He was about to say more when Kriner suddenly stiffened in alarm and turned to face the trees on the west side of the little clearing. His back vines scythed round, spreading to present a formidable screen as the pliable yellow ends split apart to reveal small clusters of poison laced barbs. The lowest pair of vines sprouting from Kriner's back arched up his back however, the tough yellow spines along their length thickening, spreading out to form a shield that he could hide Alare behind. The smaller plant-boy didn't speak; he could sense the presence approaching through the trees so he just crouched behind his love. His own, thinner vines coiled tightly against his body except for his lowest pair. They were hung with a living patchwork of leaves which Alare spread across the ground. As they formed a mat of lightly rustling leaves they helped to extend his awareness which he in turn gifted to Kriner. He was no longer surprised with how natural it felt to do such things. The instincts were a part of him; his body responded to his needs easily and freely and as the flow of sap in his body quickened he pressed a hand against Kriner's shield so they could speak mind to mind.

[What is it?] Alare asked his voice in Kriner's mind a light muffled song, like sound trickling through golden syrup. Which was actually what it was, now Kriner thought about it. The golden sap that flowed through his veins had come from Alare. It was replenished each time they joined or interacted with one of the plants they had planted in the jungle. Speaking back was easy, his purple sap ran through his lover so he filled his tone with as much courage as he could manage.

[Something new, it just appeared suddenly, approaching.]

[Then maybe it is not hostile? A hostile force that can just appear would have just dropped on top of us, this is a warning? A chance to prepare?]

[Maybe, here it comes, we'll find out now.]

Green mist rolled out of the trees, coiling about grasses, creeping up the sides of the trees as it pooled into the clearing. It pulled up short a good three feet back from the pair of Kasvane however. It was very strange, acting as if it had hit an invisible wall, splashing upwards, forming a twisting wave that reached a point seven feet up before crashing back down to fill the space behind it with more green mist. Then without warning it buckled in the centre, two stream of mist flowing out to either side, circling them, the shifting clouds of green fog seeming to thicken, to grow taller and wider, meeting up on the opposite side of the two plant creatures and pouring upwards, reaching up and over, cutting off the sunlight as it formed a dome overhead. The patch of untouched grass around Alare and Kriner was the only part of the forest that remained and as they watched and sensed their surroundings the two jumped as a new song entered their thoughts.

It was familiar yet different, a darker, softer tone, a pulsing thread of life and energy that reached out through the grass, fed from the mist all around as a warning, a polite notice that someone was approaching. Bulging forwards the mist in front of Kriner rippled then parted down the centre to reveal a dark creature. With smooth black skin he stood of a similar height to the larger plant and his torso was covered in overlapping plates of white and brown fungus. His forearms had large purple blades along their length, the wicked looking lengths designed for slicing. From out of his back six vines sprouted. Each one capped by a gently glowing blossom whilst atop his head was a beautiful bloom. Delicate, translucent petals caught the odd light of the mist and gleamed with a peculiar mixture of white and green light whilst the leaves surmounting the base of this bloom faded from black to purple along their length.

His eyes were bright and white, glowing faintly and his muzzle split into a warm smile, a muzzle that was identical in shape to Alare and Kriners. This stranger made no move to approach however and bowed politely before speaking out loud.

Children of the Mother I give you greetings and wish to share my thoughts so you may know my intentions this day are true and without malice. May we share soil and water so we may speak?

Alare peeked around Kriners shield and frowned at the strange creature, letting the carpet of leaves his lower vines had spread creep forward slightly, sensing, tasting this stranger. [Hes plant-kind,] his thoughts whispered to Kriner, [I can feel his roots he is. familiar.]

In reply Kriner moved one of his vines, sheathing the poisonous barbs, letting the yellow bulge on the end of his otherwise purple vine reform and reach out to offer itself to this stranger. One of his own black vines moved to meet Kriners and it twisted and coiled about its length. The bloom at the tip opened, welcoming Kriners bulbous vine within itself. The connection made Kriner shiver and tense, only Alares warm and steady presence behind him stopped him from snatching his vine away from the dark intruder. It felt so strange connecting to another but with Alare touching him their thoughts met the strangers and for a time they stood still.

It was hard to describe what they were sharing; it was a powerful mingling of thought, sensation and history. The dark stranger, Monet, shared with them his own rebirth. How he had been taken during a game, pulled down within a dark, underwater pod and changed, given new life and purpose as one of the Kasvane. He was a guardian of the night, grown to protect the mother during the hours of darkness when the children of the day slept. He also had another purpose host and gardener of the dark, tangled and over-grown gardens of the Knights Citadel. In turn Alare and Kriner shared their intense, sexually charged bonding with the Mother pod, their transformation and rebirth as kasvane. Their purpose was to grow and spread, to increase the population of their people and secure a bright future for their race out of the ruins that had been left of what had come before.

From Monet they learnt some more of what had been before, how the kasvane had lived in another place, another realm. Servants to the Game master known by the simple moniker the Dark Knight, how in a terrible war the Knights realm and the kasvane had fallen and been destroyed. How fire and flame had burnt their home and consumed the people until the mother seed itself was lost. Only two seeds remained the dark underwater pod in the ruins of the Knights Citadel and the seed cast out into this realm to wait and hope for those who could be born anew. Now Monet shared with them how the spirit of the old master had found a new host and his kingdom of games and challenge and change had been reborn. In that rebirth Monet had come to be, sworn servant of the Dark Knight but also aware that on his own he could not spread.

{And that is why I have been searching,} Monets voice whispered, breaking through the filtering of images and knowledge to speak directly to his daylight cousins. {On my own I cannot spread, I cannot grow but you you are the life shapers, the seed planters, kasvane of the day who can give birth to our people. I have been searching for you, the Dark Knight; he wishes to make you both an offer.}

[What kind of offer?] Kriner asked, the guardian kasvane was still wary, the words were true, the sharing could not be occluded by falsehood but still it seemed too good to be true.

{You will listen?} Monets voice asked; hope flowing through their tentative bond.

[We will listen, Alare said softly, his voice gentle, a pulsating flow of warmth and gentle determination, [We are kasvane and must grow and spread, if this Knight can offer us sanctuary and. suitable candidates then we will consider his words.]

{He does, his realm is large, and there are swamplands, jungle, woodlands, sea shore and dark overgrown urban ruins. He has a need of the kasvane, to tend his realm, to care and nurture the land as well as to maintain the many games and courses that those who come to his realm must face.}

[A lot of work, and fealty to this dark one as well,] Kriner murmured, drawing his vine back from Monet, forcing them all to speak out loud once more. What would our reward be for all this help?

Smiling and spreading his arms Monet gestured toward the mist, Protection and a virgin land to make a home for our people and a steady supply of suitable victims for the pods and Mother.

These contestants you described? Alare asked, sliding out from behind Kriner, his vines sliding back, leaves wrapping about his waist once more to form a natural kilt. We could mould them, shape them, and make them loyal to the mother and our people?

Do whatever you whatever we needed to make them one of us yes. All he would ask is our loyalty as his vassals and to help maintain the various games and courses and to work with his Hosts in providing challenging, difficult and entertaining games for the contestants. Out of these people we would be given those who would either make great kasvane or are susceptible to the sort of conversion our pods inflict on people.

Licking his snout with his long tongue Kriner flicked his vines from side to side, Or who would make good mulch to feed the plants and the mother?

Monet paused at that question, darting a startled glance toward Alare who just nodded and grinned, Yes, we need fertiliser, not everyone we touch or capture will be suitable. Some will not have the will; others will just not have personalities we desire. If someone is given to us we would not wish to be required to give them back.

Frowning and wiggling his rooted feet Monet tilted his head to one side then let a big grin spread across his muzzle. I suspect my Master would approve of that does this mean youll accept? We we can truly be a family and work together?

Kriner exchanged a look with Alare and the two joined hands, Kriners fingers sinking physically into Alares as they flexed and opened up for them. The two shared a deep, private communion then turned their bright, purple gaze back to the dark kasvane. You have proven yourself to be of our kind but we must consider the offer, weigh up all our options. How long can we have before we must answer?

A day, Monet said softly, I can return tomorrow at sunset and hear your answer then.

Then tomorrow, the pair said in unison, nodding their heads to Monet who smiled hopefully and started to step back into the green mist. It roiled and surged all around them, flowing and twisting back and forth. As it withdrew the sunlight flowed back into the clearing, photosynthesis resumed and the purple kasvane were left alone. Still holding hands, mingling their thoughts and sap, they started back through the jungle toward the mother seed, they had much to think about and a decision to make.

Strolling through the humid depths of their jungle Kriner and Alare walked side by side, their hands tangled together, thoughts mingling as the green tinged sunlight was soaked up by their dark purple bodies. Pausing at the edge of the clearing where the Mother seed was growing they looked out across the flower covered grass to the huge purple and green plant. She was sleeping, her roots drinking the deep water whilst her thoughts whispered gently to her children.

What do you think? Kriner asked his mate, looking down into the bright blue eyes of the shorter plant-man, We cannot grow here, shes entrusting us to populate the world with our kind.

I know Alare walked forward, his feet churning up the grass and flowers, creating a furrow of freshly turned earth as he placed both his hands on the smooth surface of the slumbering heart of their Mother. It was a massive purple pod, much like the one that had given birth to them both so many weeks ago but this one was different. She was wise, she had all the knowledge of their people, the many varieties of seeds and saps that could take a living, thinking person and recreate them. But she did not lead, she would only ever guide them, if anyone led them it was Alare, he communed with her slumbering thoughts almost constantly.

Are you asking her? Kriner queried, turning his head to look at his lover, watching the way his eyes grew dim and the leaves crowning his head spread wide to soak up the sun. After a few moments he shook his head, turning to face Kriner and smiled gently.

She says it is our choice, but she has shown me Monets seed he is one of us, albeit cut off from her.

Well that is something, but eh I dont know what to do?

We have a day, Alare said, pushing away from the plant and turning toward the jungle, Lets take some time for ourselves, walk out and think and then tonight commune.

Padding over to hug Alare, Kriner kissed him, pressing his muzzle to his before drawing back and stroking his smooth purple cheek with one of his fingers, Ok, Ill see you at sunset then, Ive. weve got a lot of thinking to do. Decision made the two sentient plants turned and walked in opposite directions, returning to the gentle warmth and life filled embrace of the jungle.

It was a strange day for Kriner, he walked away from the Jungle, heading for the beach and coves of their island where he could walk upon the bright sand and soak up sunlight without the canopy getting in the way. He circled the island at least once, clambering over rocks and weaving his way up the meandering paths to cliff-tops only to work his way back down the hard-packed sand once more. It gave him plenty to think about and it was nice, the view out over the ocean was spectacular; whether he was high or low there was nothing but beautiful views, stunning vistas and inspiring sights. What was lacking was a way off the island or any other living creatures larger than a monkey.

Alare went the opposite way, leaving the clearing that was his home he strode deeper into the jungle, heading toward the towering spire of rock that thrust up over everything. This was the oldest part of the woodlands; the boles of the trees crowded in close to one another and yet soared majestically into the air. There wasnt much in the way of bushes or shrubs but there was plenty of moss and an endless array of vines hanging down from the trees above. The air was heavy with musty scents, old pollen and the rich peaty smell of the moss. There was so much life here but it was quiet, sedate, not bursting with change and growth like the younger, brighter parts of the woodland. It was the perfect place to walk and think in natural solitude.

Sunset found the pair of kasvane drawn back to one another, walking through the woods, questing with their minds and connection to the jungle until they came together near the bank of a happily burbling stream. Waving to Alare, Kriner walked down the bank and waded into the river; letting the water flow about his sturdy, bark lined legs as he walked over to squish his thick roots into the heavy layer of slimy clay that made the far bank. His mate stepped down to join him in the mud, his own roots writhing through the slimy mess, anchoring, securing his passage down the steep slope until he could wrap his arms and back vines about Kriner.

Hi, Alare chirped softly, smiling up at his lover and mate as he rested his head against his chest. He shivered as Kriner brushed his stamen like fingers through the thick leaves that made up his hair then tipped his head back until they could kiss. Alare sank into that touch, letting his knees bend, lowering himself down into the mud next to Kriner until the thick, sticky clay was clinging to their waists, slurping and sliding over their bare skin as their tongues quested and coiled about one another. it was always an erotic moment, the tips of their vine like tongues opening, closing, darting this way and that against the others until one of them managed to drive the slick, warm, closed tip of their tongue into the welcoming flesh of the others. Alare got the upper hand tonight, his body stiffening a he felt Kriners tongue close about his and he shivered and let himself fall backwards into the slimy mud, pulling Kriner down atop him.

His lover wasted little time, his hands pressed on Alares shoulders, pushing his slick purple body beneath the muck as their back vines coiled and squirmed against one another. The thicker tips of Kriners vines opened, welcoming the slender points of Alares into himself, making him groan in delight as they started to join. Their bodies were designed for this, morphing, twisting, smooth flesh reshaping and welcoming the other until with a happy moan the thick, stiff, stamen lined vine that had sprouted from between his legs pressed its way into Alares warm body. It slid deep into his lovers body and Kriner cried out in delight as Alares body squeezed tightly about his shaft, holding the undulating vine in place. Then to both their delight Kriners cock began to morph back into his body, rough, bark-like skin reabsorbing the length of hard vine that was not inside Alare whilst staying put firmly lodged inside his lover. This action slowly drew their mud coated bodies together until they were locked, groin to groin and muzzle to muzzle in a carnal embrace that had been impossible when they were creatures of flesh and fur. Now, now their mutable plant like bodies allowed them intimacy that went beyond the physical and mingled thought and feeling in a sharing that stepped past physical enjoyment and into something new and special.

Rocking gently, the slick mud squelching, sliding and sloshing around their bodies the two opened themselves to each other. There was a gentle rhythm to their union, they were in no hurry and they had no plans to germinate a seed. All the passion and fire that might have been poured into creating new life was instead channelled into their thoughts and the intense sharing of sap. They didnt need words, just each other, churning the mud all around them into a thick, gooey slurry that poured over their bodies as each vine that linked them pulsed and rippled, adding sensation and pleasure to the warm rush of sap pouring into the other, flooding their xylem and phloem before rushing through other channels back into their body. With every moment that passed, every rippling pulse of sap that surged across the points where they were joined the heightened sense of pleasure grew stronger. Their minds were filled with each others thoughts, sensation and feeling, the pleasure, their deliberations and as they squirmed and writhed against each other their bodies sank deeper into the thick mud of the stream bank.

Riding the ongoing wave of pleasure toward a climax the two boys looked into each others eyes in the dim twilight and then let their eyelids close as their roots twisted, turned and tugged them deeper. Mud eased up around their shoulders, their fingers wiggled and locked together as the thick clay crept up over their heads until only the flowers surmounting their bodies remained above the ground. Rocking back and forth against one another, sharing everything they let the flowers slowly open, petals and leaves drawing back, their bodies starting to tense, to grow rigid as they held each other on the edge of orgasm. It was such a strange sensation, feeling the warmth of the sun fading, their leaves cooling, and their bodies joined so completely. The sap flowed faster and then together, bodies locked in an embrace they quivered, minds silently calling to the other as they released a cloud of thick pollen into the air! Streams of the potent stuff was released from their bodies, purple and golden motes of dust that danced and span in the cooling air to settle back down atop the disturbed surface of the mud bank that had claimed the kasvane. For this moment as they let their pollen fly they had ceased to be separate creatures, their minds and thoughts were joined as one, in pleasure and love and that, in and of itself was all they needed to reach a unified decision.

Sunset on the island was a beautiful thing, the humidity of the day started to give way as the evening breeze started to blow through the trees. Unlike the night before Alare and Kriner were above ground, standing beside the mother seed in the central clearing were they had made their home. There morning had mostly been spent pressed together underground followed by a leisurely and enjoyable soak in the river to clean up. After that they had walked through the forest, enjoying the warmth and the sun shining upon their bodies.

Communicating only through their shared bond the pair of young plants had been able to view the natural life of the jungle. The fauna and flora not disturbed by their presence as long as they did not speak. Then as the sun began to move lower and shadows crept in beneath the canopy they had started to wind their way along the vine draped path toward their home.

As the last rays of the sun faded and darkness began to roll across the jungle they could feel another presence approaching. They watched as the green mist rose amongst the trees, curling, banking and spreading in impossible ways once more until it parted to allow their strange, dark skinned night blooming cousin to emerge. His white eyes glowed brilliantly in the darkness as he approached, his rooted feet burrowing through the ground as he moved toward them.

"Cousins, hello again. Have you made a decision?" he said out loud, his voice soft and gentle in the silent air of the night

"We have but we have some questions we'd like answered first." Kriner said, holding Alare's arm and watching the fungus glad kasvane curiously as he approached, "If that is OK?"

Monet nodded, sitting down cross legged in the loam, his head turning to look longingly at the looming bulk of the mother seed for a moment before turning his attention back to the purple skinned pair, "Ask away, I've been empowered to answer any question you have if it means you'll say yes."

"The place we are moving to, we will be custodians of the land? The forest and plains will be ours to make our home in freely. But what is expected of us?"

"You'll... we are to be charged with maintaining the land, caring for it as we do already. We will also look after the games, the assault courses and challenges that his contestants play through. In time you'll run your own games and find converts amongst those who play."

Glancing at Kriner and shrugging Alare turned back to face Monet, "Sounds like we will have a lot to learn and a new realm to build. Our last question concerns you, we won't tolerate there being more than one mother... the Kasvane must be one, will you submit to joining with us?"

Monet's head came up, the beautiful, glowing night blooming blossom stop his head pulsing with light. His smile was like Moonrise on a clear night as he nodded eagerly. "I have no mother seed, the pod that birthed me died after giving me life.... I would gladly join you, be one with the kasvane..."

Slowly tangling their vines together the pair of purple plants turned to look at one another for a long moment. Blue, petal like eyes glowing softly as they silently shared their thoughts. For a long moment they were still and silent then they turned to Monet and smiled as Alare spoke.

"Then we accept your offer and that of your Lord. We'll swear to him and act as the guardians of his worlds wilds.'

Monet grinned in relief, taking a step forward, the flower atop his head uncurling slightly as he offered two vines to his new friends and soon to be masters. "Hold on then and we'll move over and then you can meet him and you'll soon see this is a great decision. Our people will grow strong and play once more."

Green mist started to creep amongst the trees as Alare and his mate Kriner hooked their back vines around Monet's. The heavy fog continued to build, a thick wall of intense, slightly glowing green mist coiling about the tree trunks until it was over seven feet high, level with the canopy of the rainforest above. Then silently it crashed into the clearing, its potency obscuring everything, engulfing the mother seed and the three waiting Kasvane. For a brief moment their cries of shocked delight hung on the air before the wall of fog blanketed the woodland in silence.

The mist lingered then, long into the night, bathed in the light of the moon, sparkling with odd, inner flashes of light and shimmering, ghosting coils of green that would occasionally lash out at birds or animals who strayed too close. When the fog finally melted away, soaking into the ground it revealed an empty clearing, the Kasvane had left the island that had given birth to them for the realm of the Dark Knight awaited and the promised bodies that would see their people once again begin to multiply.
