The Ocean

Story by Vye Riosaki on SoFurry

This was staying on my phone for quite some time. I finally transcribed it (with a few edits) to my iPad for the convenience of uploading. I hope you enjoy this little poem. ^^

Oh, and I had read Learning to Swim by GabrielClyde, which sorta inspired this piece. ^^

With a heavy heart that I hold dear

I must try and lend an ear

The dove that used to tell me why

Has flown away into the night

I wondered why I was here and why I was scared

But that faithful dove has went as feared

No I'm here and my heart is cleared

I reminisce the sweet old days of years long gone.

The times I felt invincible and all of my wrongs

I recall the sound of a roaring river,

I recall the call of an eagle, the call of a crow

In fact, it was not too long ago,

That I lost that oar.

It moved me about so damn slow,

But now I drift forevermore.

I yearn for land, but the sea has a grip.

I yearn for water -- clean water -- to grace my lip,

Yet I drift in water poisonous to me

...

I guess it doesn't matter with what happens,

I guess it doesn't matter with what happens.

These sharks, they circle, these sharks, the swarm.

This sea has me.

Even when I was tethered to the shore.

Now I'm out here, on my own boat,

Stuck staring stoically.

The world is out there, yet I'm here.

It wasn't too long ago that the dove has left.

It wasn't too long ago, that I wanted to swim.

Here I am. And here it goes.

It's about time I started learning to swim.
