#1 of My Journey Through High School

It started with a ringing that pierced the silence of the morning. I covered my ears in annoyance as I waited for it to just go away. But it didn't, and that ringing was soon followed by a second. After a bit of realization I scrambled over my covers to slam the button of my alarm clocks. After turning them off I had to catch myself from falling back into my covers of the bed. It was the beginning of the rest of my life today. Today was the first day of my freshman year of high school.

I slowly got out of bed and gathered my clothes from my dresser and walked towards the bathroom to shower. I stripped down and turned the shower on, looking at myself in the mirror as I waited for the shower to warm up. 14 year old, 5 Ft 5 inch human, with slightly long brown hair and brown eyes to match. I was rather slim and had been so all my life, not that I wasn't complaining about it either, as I was an aversely good athlete, although not good enough for any sports team. I quickly showered, cleaned myself up, got into my clothes and headed out to the dining room of our one story house for breakfast. My mom was already eating breakfast herself when I got out there.

"About time you got out here Ryan," she said to me, "aren't you excited for school?"

"Of course I am mom," I said although it wasn't entirely true, "It's only 7:10 though. I still have another 15 minutes before I got to pick Jason up." This was true, after I ate breakfast and freshened myself up more I grabbed all my new school materials and wished my mom a good day at work before running off to the neighbor's house. I knocked on the door waiting for Jason to answer, however I got his mother to answer instead. She like Jason were both orange foxes and very nice people.

"Hi Mrs. Megami," I said, "Is Jason ready yet? We got to get going."

"Of course Ryan," she said, "hang on a second. She stepped inside and shouted for Jason. "Jason, Ryan's here! You don't want to make both of you late now do you?"

"Coming," Jason said as he slid down the stairs with his backpack. His mom didn't take too kindly to that.

"Yashono Megami," She said, "how many times do I have to tell you not to slide down the staircase." We always knew he'd get into trouble the second that his mom says his actual name, he just prefers to be called Jason. He was also roughly the same height as I was.

"Sorry mom," he said and gave a kiss goodbye, while I waved hello and goodbye to his father inside reading the morning newspaper. We quickly headed off to school, hoping to get there early so we could get around.

"High school here we come," Jason said, "I wonder what it'll be like."

"My mom wants me to make lots of new friends," I said, "but I'm also hoping that I don't get beat up. At least not the first day like back in middle school."

"Oh yeah," Jason remembered being as he was my best friend since elementary school, "That bull was relentless with you."

"Don't remind me," I said as we kept walking. It took us another fifteen minutes to get to our destination. We soon were looking at a large sign, with the words "Welcome to Pine View High School" written in black letters. I was both excited and nervous at the same time. After a couple minutes we pulled out our schedules and other information and walked inside. It took us a couple minutes to find our lockers, and we were relieved to find that ours were right next to each other's. We tried our combinations and managed to get them open when a few shadows cast over us.

テ「竄ャヒ廾h shit,' I thought and turned around slowly to see who it was. Three guys were looking over us, each with somewhat evil grins on their faces. All of them were at least a few inches taller than I was. The one on the right was an orange monkey, with deep red hair except for one strand, which was purple. He was wearing a black leather jacket with blue pants to match. The one on the left was a tall black dragon, easily the tallest of the group, which I imagined about six feet or so. He was also wearing a black leather jacket, although he wore his with black pants instead. The last one was a white tiger with black stripes. He was wearing black pants and a black shirt with the school logo on it. They chuckled a little bit as I back away a little bit, Jason as well.

"Well what do you know Sunrise," The monkey said, "Freshmeats." I figured this was some little pun about freshman.

"I guess you're right Nokemy," The black dragon said, "I'd say they're a little intimidated by us by now. We even managed to find a human here as well, I didn't think we'd find any at this school anyway."

"Yeah," the white tiger said, "I think we scared them enough though. You should know what it was like being a freshman right. So we should be helping them out."

"Yeah I guess you're right," The monkey said and approached me, "nice to meet you guys, I'm Nokemy Irving."

"Sunrise Eclipse," the black dragon said extending a hand, which I shook both of theirs hesitantly.

"N-nice to meet you," I said, "I-I'm Ryan Lewis."

"I'm Yashono Megami," Jason said, "but you can just call me Jason." He shook Nokemy and Sunrise's hands.

"Ryan Lewis eh?" The white tiger asked, "My name is Ryan as well. I'm Ryan Godsey." He shook my hand and Nokemy pulled the others away for a second and whispered something in their ears, which I couldn't pick up. When he finished the others giggled. I was wondering what they were giggling about and spoke.

"So what year are you guys going in?" I asked and they smiled.

"We're sophomores," Ryan said, "I'm the quarterback for the JV football team this year." He exchanged high fives with the other two. That caught me off guard. Was I really befriending a football player? And even more so the quarterback, even if it was the JV teams.

"So Ryan," Ryan asked me, "Do you play any sports, anything like that?"

"Not really," I said, "I play chess but that's about it."

"You're in luck then," Sunrise said, "Pine View has the best chess team in the state."

"What room?" I asked.

"I'll take you there during lunch," he said and I smiled.

"Thanks Sunrise," I said.

"Don't mention it," he said smiling, "oh and please call me Sun for short." The bell rang right after that. I looked at my schedule for first period, seeing that my first class was math.

"Anyone know where the math hall is?" I asked them.

"What room number?" Nokemy asked and I handed him my schedule. "You're in luck, you have the same class as the rest of us. You must be pretty good at math." He handed me back my schedule and led me and Jason to our first class, with Sun and Ryan right behind us. As soon as we got to class I picked a seat right in the front, seeing as I didn't want to be sitting in the back with all the distractions of the classroom. Jason and Ryan each took a seat next to me, while Nokemy and Sun each took one behind Jason and me. I got my binder out and turned to my math section ready to take notes when I noticed someone else walk inside.

"Nice to see you show up on time good sir," the teacher said to him. The student in question was a tall orca. Black with a beautiful white underbelly. His eyes were a hypnotizing blue, as clear as the ocean. His muscles were chiseled to a god like form, almost that you could question if he was a high school student at all. If any, I figured that he was a senior. Regardless, he was hot as hell, and I just couldn't stop staring at him. Oh I would die just to have the opportunity to talk to him.

テ「竄ャヒ廬f only,' I thought as the teacher started the class.

"Welcome to Geometry," he said and started with the rules of the class. Throughout the class I couldn't help but inconspicuously give a glance to the orca. As class drew to a close I had the strange feeling that he had looked back at me, but I wasn't really sure. The next class wasn't nearly as exciting, I had Earth Systems next, a freshman only science class that was required to take for us. I sat through that with Jason sitting next to me. What caught me off guard that class was the orca from Geometry was in this class as well.

テ「竄ャヒ廛oes this mean he's a freshman as well?' I thought, テ「竄ャヒ徼hat doesn't seem possible but now, I don't think there's no other explanation for him being in the class.'

After that class it was lunch time, being on a block schedule meant having half the classes one day, and half the classes on the other, with each class being twice as long. I got my lunch from the line quickly and found a seat with my friends who were waiting for me.

"So how's high school treating you?" Nokemy asked me.

"It's alright," I said, I wasn't paying much attention to him as I spotted that orca again, this time I didn't make an effort to hide it and everyone noticed.

"Oh wow," Ryan said, "you got the hots for him. I guess I'm not surprised. He is definitely good looking, especially for a freshman."

"So he is a freshman," I blurted out a little bit then regained my composure. Everyone else laughed. I was also embarrassed that my new friends knew my secret of being gay as well.

"Yep," he said, "and don't worry, we knew you were gay since this morning."

"We have our way of knowing," Nokemy said, "mostly because it takes one to know one." I knew today would be full of surprises, but this was just beyond the ball at this point.

"Really?" I asked looking dumbfounded. They nodded and I looked at the orca again, who was happily eating lunch with a group of his friends, whom I didn't pay much attention to.

"So who is he?" I asked Ryan.

"That's Morrell Monteque," he replied, "he's the star defensive lineman for the JV team so we play with each other. He's quite popular among many of us lower classmen, especially the ladies apparently. But don't get me wrong, I don't know if he enjoys that or not." He probably did, I thought on that for a second. With this kind of popularity there would be no way he would notice me, especially if he was straight. Just thinking about it brought me despair, even more so when I noticed a few ladies flirting around with him at his table. We finished lunch and Nokemy and Ryan headed off, saying that they each have their own activities to attend to. I got up and walked with Sun and Jason.

"Alright Ryan," Sun said, "ready for chess club?" I nodded and he led me deep into the science hall, which overlooked a darker part of the second floor of the school. He led me into what I recognized to be the room next to the chemistry lab. I smiled as I looked on the expanse of the chess boards lined up with the group of tables. A tall human was leading the classroom and Sun led me to him.

"Mr. Sundin," he said and he turned to face him, "here's your new team player, his name's Ryan Lewis." He pointed to me and I waved. Mr. Sundin nodded and spoke to a nearby cat who was setting up a board.

"Alduin," he said, "new opponent for you." The one in question turned to face me. He was quite tall for a cat, standing about 6 ft. 2 and he smiled at me.

"I'm Ryan Lewis," I said to him and shook his hand. Sun nodded and took off leaving me to have fun at my new extracurricular activity.

"I'm Alduin Raptormaster," he said in a most amazing New Zealand accent, "I'm the chess team captain this year, even so don't expect me to go easy on you." I was hoping he would say that. I wasn't playing chess since I was 5 for nothing. He played as white and began, about ten minutes into the game I found a deadly combination and capitalized on it.

"Checkmate," I said, causing Mr. Sundin to nearly drop his sandwich. Alduin stared at the board in disbelief and shook my hand.

"That's amazing," he said, "how long have you been playing?"

"About ten years," I said and everyone in the room stared at me, "what?"

"That's amazing," said another black dragon as he came up to me, looking at the stopped game, "beating Alduin like that." He was accompanied by a white leopard who also examined the game.

"Ah yes," Alduin said, "he's amazing. I think we found our star player this year. By the way Ryan, the dragon here is Lucian Equinox, and the leopard is his brother Lucian Snowclaw. We just call them Eq and Snow for short. Everyone, this is Ryan Lewis, our newest player." Everyone looked at me and exchanged friendly glances. I had to keep myself from blushing from all the attention. Shortly after a white ferret with yellow eyes and a tall gray dolphin approached me.

"I'm Adair Zephyr," the ferret greeted with a bow.

"I'm Jacob Larsen," the dolphin said, "you can just call me Jake though." I nodded and we had a friendly conversation and more games for the remainder of the lunch period. During which I noticed Adair and Jake whispering about something, the only thing I caught in the conversation was my name. The bell rang before I could finish my game with coach Sundin.

"I'll guess we'll just have to see who is the better player tomorrow," Alduin said as I gathered my stuff to hurry to the next class. As I ran out greeting everyone good bye I overheard coach saying something to Alduin.

"Ryan had me," he said. The next class I had was English, Jason was surprisingly not in this class, however Adair was in this class, along with you guessed it, it was Morrell. I noticed throughout the class that Morrell and Adair were sitting together, so I was wondering if they were friends or not. I kept thinking about Morrell as I worked through my first assignment, as I did I got nudged in the shoulder a bit by someone else. I turned to see who it was.

"Hey," he said, "can you help me out a little bit, I'm no good at grammar." He was a phoenix. About the same height as Eq and Snow was, I didn't have anyone to talk to and I was already done with the easy assignment so I helped him out.

"Thanks a lot," he said, "what's your name?"

"Ryan Lewis," I said.

"Oh so you're the one," he said and I looked confused, "my brothers Eq and Snow told me about you from chess club. I don't really play chess, it's not my kind of thing. I'm more into Basketball. My name's Lucian Blaze." He offered a hand, which I shook and we talked for a little bit quietly so as to not disturb the class while they were working, although most were talking louder than the rest of us. The last class of the day was Band class, which I was excited for. Although we didn't have instruments for the first day of class, I played the Alto Saxophone for my instrument. The instructor was a really comical funny guy, and one of the few human teachers of the school.

"Hello everyone," he said happily, "I'm Mr. Candland. Before we talk about the boring rules of class let's get through role so I can remember each and everyone of your names." He gave a funny gesture, which made most of us laugh and reached for the role. "Now pay attention, I go in random order so you'll have to pay attention so you don't get marked absent. Sunrise Eclipse." The dragon in question said here and I looked at him smiling, he was too busy talking with two other dragons, one blue and one red to notice that I was looking at him.

"Hinori Terran," he said and the blue dragon responded with here.

"Runo Terran," he said and the red dragon responded the same.

"Lucian Canad," a 6 ft 3 calico cat sitting right next to my right raised his hand and said here. Lucian Canad, I thought. Is he a brother for the other three Lucian's? I figured so mostly because he was the same height as the other three. I had to ask.

"Lucian?" I began and he looked at me.

"Yes?" he smiled.

"Do you have three other brothers?" I asked him.

"I certainly do," he said, "Eq, Blaze, and Snow. You must be Ryan Lewis, they've told me about you. What instrument do you play?"

"Alto Saxophone," I replied, "you?"

"I play the guitar," he said, "it's certainly nice to meet you." We got to talk for a little bit while Mr. Candland explained the rest of the rules and finally the day ended square at 2:45 PM. I got up from my seat and stretched, and walked outside to meet up with Jason. Ryan, Nokemy, and Sun were waiting for me there as well. I waved at them and ran up to them. I wasn't watching where I was going as I bumped into someone and nearly fell over. Hoping that I wasn't going to start a fight, I looked up to see that I bumped right square into Morrell. This made me feel even worse, not only could I get beat up, but possibly from someone that I had a huge crush on. I looked at him for a second and flinched as he reached for me. With a gentle grab though, he quickly pulled me up to my feet. I looked up at him a little bit in slight surprise. He just smiled and walked off as my friends approached me.

"You okay," Jason asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said and smiled for a second. For a football player, his touch was very gentle. Another reason that I liked the big orca.

"I know that smile," Nokemy said, "you're thinking about him."

"Maybe," I said giggling a little bit.

"Well then go talk to him then," Sun said, "you never know."

"Are you serious?" I said, "what are the chances of surviving an encounter like that?"

"Don't worry," Ryan said and wrapped a playful hand over my shoulder, "you can talk to him when your ready. But trust me, we'll get you to talk to him eventually." We got back to small talk right after that for a while as we walked home. After a while Sun and Nokemy said goodbye heading off towards their respective houses. After another five minutes we got to Jason's house.

"See you tomorrow Ryan and Ryan," he said, "most of our classes tomorrow are electives, finally."

"Yeah," I said, "have a good night." Jason walked up into his house and Ryan and I continued on our way. Because Jason was my next-door neighbor we got right up to the entrance of my house and I unlocked it with the key in my pocket. I knew my mom was still at work so the house was completely empty and all to myself.

"Nice place you got here," Ryan said to me.

"Thanks," I said to him, "Want to come in?"

"Well," he said, "maybe another time. I got to get home, maybe sometime when I don't have football practice."

"Okay then," I said, "have a good day then. See you tomorrow Mr. quarterback." Before I could open my door he stopped me.

"Say Ryan," he said, "before I go, can the quarterback you know, make out with you? Like, right now?" he asked. I was completely caught off guard. Why now out of all time would he ask to make out with me? I just looked at him for a second looking dumbfounded again while blushing a deep red. "Well, what Nokemy whispered to my ear this morning was true after all, you are cute." That made me blush even more and he chuckled and got up close to me, wrapping his arms around me and drawing me deep into a passionate kiss with on the lips. I almost moaned right then and there when I gasped in surprise, but I eventually succumbed to it. I was definitely a stranger in the ways of kissing, but Ryan seemed to lead me into it just fine. He licked around my lips as we kissed as if signaling me to open them. I eventually did and he snaked his tongue inside of my mouth to explore, causing me to moan in response. He got to my tongue and began to wrestle with it. I couldn't help but enjoy every ounce of his treatment here, but eventually he broke the kiss and smiled.

"And now I can brag that you're a good kisser too," he said. He waved goodbye and headed off down the road. I just stood there, wondering what in the world just happened. Did I really just make out with the JV quarterback? I quickly walked inside and shut the door, I walked into my room and set my back pack on the floor next to the door, pulling out the disclosure statements and setting them out on the kitchen counter for my mom to read later. I then quickly headed back into my room and sorted through my bookshelf, until I got to a red leather book, bound shut by a lock that went around the book. I pulled out the key I had from under my desk drawer and unlocked it, pulling it off so I can open it up. The entire book was blank, except for a group of words on the back of the cover, which read:

"The Diary of Ryan Lewis"

I smiled and opened it up, pulling out my brand new pen, which I vowed to use only for writing into the diary, and got to work. The black ink was expensive but completely worth it for the look of the page when I was done writing it, in my best cursive hand writing that I could manage. Satisfied for the day, I set the book back on the shelf, and put the key back in its hiding place. Then I just lied there on the bed, thinking about what could happen on the next day of school.
