At long last here is the sixth chapter of Marshall Law, here we begin to watch as Todd Marshall begins his long road to a possible full recovery, we will also begin to see the trust and love between Todd and Lucas as it begins to bloom.

I hope you all like it and I promise that I will try to update it on a more regular basis. As always I would appreciate any votes, favourites and comments that you may like to leave.

Marshall Law (6)

Wolfie Steel & Kausn_Husky.

(My thanks to Kausn_husky for agreeing to help me with this story, all of the characters in this story are mine, however, Sergeant Lucas Doyle has been given over to Kausn, as hopefully he will be able to add something to the story)

I wake up the following morning to an otherwise empty bed, I slowly ease myself into a sitting position and my Foxy ears begin to scan for any sounds that will tell me where Lucas is, but try as I might I find no evidence of Lucas's whereabouts.

I remove the bedcovers and then slowly inch myself to the edge of the bed; it's then that I notice that before his leaving Lucas had taken the precaution of changing my bag, damn that guy is good, he did it without me even knowing about it.

With a little bit of effort I manage to ease myself into my wheelchair, once I am comfortable it is then that I remember that there is one Foxy ablution that doesn't have a bag, I quickly wheel myself to the upstairs bathroom and again I position myself so that I can make the transition from chair to toilet with the least of hassle, for my good fortune the bathroom is perfectly usable for a guy like myself, I hold onto the handrail which is secured to the wall and I steadily lift myself up and out of the chair, using my free paw I lower my nightwear and then slowly lower myself down to the toilet seat, as I do so a thought springs to my mind.

'Hmm, maybe I should try out for Cirque du Soleil as the tight rope walker'

Ah yes it seems that my legendary humour is slowly returning. With my ablutions now complete I lift myself from the toilet and not to be too graphic but I finish the job off, I then pull my nightwear back up and then transfer myself back to the chair, I flush the toilet and then I wash my hand paws.

With my bathroom visit complete I wheel myself to the top of the stairs and park up next to the stair lift, I then transfer myself to the lift and slowly make my way down stairs. Once I have transferred myself to my downstairs chair I feel something that I haven't felt ever since the shooting, I can actually feel my tail as it begins to wag.

A smile finally graces my muzzle as I wheel myself into the kitchen; there on the kitchen worktop is a note from Lucas.

"Well babe, if you are reading this note then that means that you are learning to cope with your disability a lot faster than anyone first thought, now I have had to go into work for a couple of hours, but I have left you some things which you can use to make yourself some breakfast, I know that it goes without saying but please be careful, and remember, my office number is on speed dial 1 or my mobile number is speed dial 2. I will see you when I get home sweets, for now though, Auf Wiedersehen"

Damn why did I have to get a sexy assed pooch with German lineage? Oh well, I guess I can't be picky. I set to work on making some toast and then I grab a soda from the fridge, I notice that Lucas has left my meds on the kitchen table and so once my toast is done I sit at the kitchen table and down my meds closely followed by my toast.

With my breakfast finished and the plate that I used placed into the dishwasher, I wheel myself into the lounge, I switch on the TV and begin to watch some of the god awful shows that they put on during the day, I know that I told the Captain that I wouldn't be happy until I am back out on the streets doing the job that I love, but right here and right now I would happily take a desk job, anything to relieve the mind numbing boredom.

I guess that an hour has passed when the phone starts to ring, at first I am unsure about answering it because it could be someone for Lucas, maybe even his folks and I am not sure how they would react to a strange guy answering their sons phone, but then the thought crosses my mind that it could be Lucas and so I wheel myself over to the phone and answer the call.

"Hello, my name is Doctor Hanson; could I please speak to Mister Lucas Doyle please?"

I clear my throat as I recognise the Doctors voice and make my reply.

"Hi Doctor Hanson, it's me Todd Marshall, I'm afraid that Lucas is at work at the moment, is there something that I can help you with?"

The good Doctor becomes a little more cheery.

"Ah Mister Marshall, well it is actually about you, I was wondering if both you and Lucas could come back to see me at some point either today or tomorrow as I want to check to see how things are progressing"

I give the good Doctor's question some thought.

"Well Doc as I said, Lucas is at work at the moment, but he said that he would be back within a couple of hours, so maybe I could set something up in his absence and say that we can be at your office for say, one thirty this afternoon, would that be cool with you?"

The Doctor seems to pause for a moment, and I am sure that I can hear the pages of a book being turned, probably checking his diary.

"Yes Mr Marshall, that will be fine, if there is any change in this appointment please let me know"

I assure the Doctor that I will do just that and then I end the call, I settle back into watching the TV, 'Oh gods what I would do to get my Playstation 3 hooked up so that at least I can watch my blu-rays' just as that thought fades away I hear the front door being unlocked, I spin myself around to face the door just in time to see my Doberman partner entering the house.

"Well Todd, I knew it wouldn't be long before you started doing things for yourself, but damn I wasn't thinking that it would be so quick, you my friend will be back on the force before you know it"

I chuckle a little; it is true that with every passing moment the will inside me to get back on my feet grows stronger and stronger, I want to keep Trish's memory alive. I look at my lover again and this time I see a solemn look on his sexy features.

"Todd there is no easy way to say this, but while I was at the station this morning Captain Myers came to me and told me of the date of Trish's funeral, it is this Friday at midday, and Captain Myers has requested that the whole department be present, he did make one exception, he said that if you couldn't make it then no one would think any less of you"

I shake my head a little as I make my reply.

"Lucas, by hook or by crook I will be attending the funeral, wild fucking stallions couldn't hold me back, Trish was not only my partner, she was also my very best friend, I owe it to her to attend, plus it will give me a chance to meet Trish's kids and her boyfriend, so please tell me that you told Myers that I will be there?"

A weak smile graces the Doberman's muzzle.

"Oh don't worry Todd, the Captain knows that it would take a herculean effort to keep you away, as he said, he just wanted you to know that it was an option"

I nod gently.

"Oh by the way Lucas, Doctor Hanson called earlier; he has asked that we both go to see him today to give him an update on my progress"

Lucas heads towards the phone and dials a number, while waiting for an answer he looks at me.

"We'll do it today because I am going to be busy at work for the rest of the week, and then of course you and I won't be in any fit state to see the Doctor on Friday"

Just as he says that he gets an answer from the other end of the phone, he then asks to be put through to the Doctor so that he can confirm our appointment. With the appointment confirmed Lucas hangs up the phone.

"Okay babe, we have an hour and a half before we have to see the Doctor so why don't I get us some lunch and then we can get ready"

I nod gently, I would normally answer him verbally as I know that just a nod can seem in some cases to be seen as rude, but my mind is still processing the fact that in a few days I will be saying a final farewell to my working partner of ten years, Lucas can see that the news of the funeral has affected me quite badly and so without question he goes into the kitchen to begin making us lunch.

Once lunch is over we both head upstairs to the bedroom where Lucas first helps me to get dressed in something much fancier than just a plain old pair of sweat pants, he also checks and refreshes my bag 'Man I can't wait to get rid of that thing, it is so embarrassing that Lucas has to empty my piss for me'.

With us both now looking presentable we head out to the Doctors office, Lucas loads me into his car and then puts my wheelchair in the trunk. After a fifteen minute drive we arrive at the medical centre, again Lucas goes into action getting me set up in my wheelchair, he then goes to push me into the centre but I politely stop him.

"Hon thanks for the offer, but I want to do this on my own, I don't want the folks around us taking pity on me just because I'm in a wheelchair, at the end of the day I am in no greater need than any of them"

Lucas giggles a little.

"You know what Todd, at times you can be one stubborn SOB, but if you feel as though you have something to prove then go ahead, I will stay behind you should you need me"

At this moment there are no words for me to convey how loved and cared for I feel. Who knew that when I first set eyes on Lucas that he would become such a huge part of my life?

I take hold of the wheel rims and begin the task of wheeling myself into the medical centre, once inside Lucas heads to the reception desk to announce our arrival while I park myself quietly at the end of the row of seats.

Lucas joins me and collects a spare seat and then places it next to me so that he can sit next to me while we wait to be called, we don't have to wait long before my name is called. Lucas replaces his seat back on the pile of spare chairs while I begin the journey to the Doctors office.

Once we are at the door Lucas knocks and waits to be invited in, he then opens the door and allows me to wheel myself into the office, the Doctor smiles a generic smile as he greets us.

"So Mister Marshall, how are you adjusting to life on wheels instead of behind them?"

At that moment I could have jumped from my chair and ripped the good Doctor a new hole, I saw Lucas wince at the Doctors words and I could tell that he was thinking the exact same thing as me, but I decided to let it go...for now.

"Well Doc so far I haven't wrecked Lucas's home, I haven't rolled over his foot paws, the one thing that is bothering me though is this damn bag"

I saw a wicked smile crack on Lucas's muzzle which soon vanished as the Doctor turned to face him.

"Well Mister Doyle, seeing as how you have been responsible for changing Mister Marshall's catheter bag I want to ask you if you have seen any further presence of blood in his pee?"

I wasn't sure that Lucas would be able to answer the good Doctor in a cordial manner, but to my surprise he did.

"No Doctor Hanson, Todd's pee has been clear for a couple of days now"

The Doctor nods his head while rubbing his chin, obviously in deep thought.

"Okay well in that case I don't see any reason why we can't remove the catheter and also get Todd to start using his crutches"

My ears perk up at these words and I wait as the Doctor continues.

"Right Mister Doyle if you would be so kind as to wait in the waiting room for a little while I will remove the catheter and put some stitches in to repair the hole where the tube was, I will then dress the wound and then ask a nurse to come and collect you so that we can continue our chat"

Lucas leaves the office, with Lucas gone a nurse enters the office, both the nurse and the Doctor help me out of the chair and then lead me to a bed that is behind a set of screens. The removal of the catheter bag takes about half an hour, I then get help with getting dressed again and then I am led back to my wheelchair, the nurse then leaves the office and calls for Lucas to return, once Lucas is back in the office and seated the Doctor resumes our chat.

"Now then guys, things should start to get a little easier now that the catheter has been removed, you Mister Marshall should now be able to go to the toilet pretty much unaided, I will however advise you that if you should start peeing blood again I want to see you back here, as for you Mister Doyle I'm going to step up your role in Mister Marshall's rehabilitation, I want you to get him to start using his crutches, well with the catheter now out there is no real need for his wheelchair. I will be asking to see you both on a six weekly basis, I will also set up a course of physiotherapy, hopefully that will give Mister Marshall the best ever chance at walking again"

Both Lucas and I thank the Doctor for his time and I am just about to grab the rims of my wheels when the Doctor stops me again.

"I'm not done yet, Mister Marshall I want Mister Doyle to push you around in your chair until you get onto your crutches as any undue pressure might break the stitches and open up the wound again, I also want to see you back here in a week so that I can take a look at the wound, if after that week the wound has healed then I will remove the stitches and then you can start being independent again"

I hang my head a little but then I allow Lucas to take hold of the wheelchair handles so that he can wheel me out to the car.

Man this next few days are going to be a right royal pain in my ass.
