#9 of Wolf and Deer

Author's note: I've decided to post instalments as soon as the previous one has reached one hundred views. So, without any further ado... the story of the deerwolf's parents continues. Enjoy! ^.^

Do not grieve for happiness lost

Do not mourn the past or be scared of the future.

There's always a now, yours to do with as you please...

If you are prepared to face consequences.

Hunger. Cold. Time itself... none of this seemed to matter anymore. Had it ever, really? Comfortable in each other's embrace. More satisfied and happier than either had been, would ever have thought possible. The seeming impossibility of their union only serving to make every moment more precious, never to be forgotten.

Wolf and Deer lay... joined, in body, mind and heart. Hot breath on each other's fur and interlocking gazes, caressing paws and hooves, having found a love neither had dared dream of. No giver or receiver... both being both, and in their gazes an unspoken promise and realisation: This was how things should be, and this was how they would be, as long as their hearts were still beating. A soft sigh escaping both muzzles as their union was separated for the time being. A tender nuzzling told more than a thousand words could ever have. This was real. This was for eternity and beyond. This was... love.

A panting, slightly hissing voice suddenly breaking this sacred silence. "What of the hunting, hunter bold? Or should I say... brother?"

Two pairs of eyes darting to the edge of the clearing that had seen their happiest hour. Beta's heart skipping a beat, recognizing the newcomer. His changing scent telling Reborn all that she needed to know.

His ribs showing through his fur, betraying his hunger, baring his fangs in a knowing grin, Delta stood ot the edge of the trees, hackles raised, now crouching low, ready to leap; his eyes showing his disgust, his eagerness to punish those who loved each other no matter what rules everyone else obeyed. Knowing how easy his mind was to be read right now, Delta leapt - his features, his very soul screaming... envy.
