"God" is a Child

So, what if the hateful, vicious, evil "God" of the Bible isn't the way he is because of hatred? What if the real reason he is the way he is, is that he is a kid who sees Humanity as a favorite toy? This article gives my thoughts on the idea of "God" as an omnipotent 10 year old who likes to inflict misery on humans the way one of our 10 year olds might pull the legs off a frog... and also the way that Humanity can finally stand up to this seemingly all powerful bully.

I used to think that the Christian god hated Humanity. After all, he takes great pride in the amount of people he's killed, orders genocidal crusades which he justifies by saying that he's God and knows all, and he even messes with the minds of individual human beings. Such actions would be deemed hateful in our day and age, so it's natural that one would think that he hates the entire human race.

But what if his actions aren't motivated by hate? What if instead, the actions of this god are an expression of a utilitarian indifference? I mean, if he is omnipotent, something we can't say about ourselves, perhaps he sees human beings the same way a carpenter might see a hammer, or a sculptor might see a chisel... or the way a pubescent boy sees an army of toy solders. Perhaps he sees human beings as tools, or more specifically as toys, to be used in whatever way he sees fit.

When thinking about this I am reminded of the first season Star Trek TOS episode, "The Squire of Gothos." In this episode, an away team led by Captain Kirk encounters an omnipotent being who calls himself Squire Tremayne, who can create castles, iron bars, and even entire natural environments at will... but who later is discovered to be only a young child, who is reined in by his parents at the end of the episode. What if Yahweh, the cruel and often vicious Old Testament God, is actually a child much like Tremayne? Then how would Yahweh see human beings on this Earth? I would imagine that he would see us the same way Tremayne saw Kirk and his crew: as pets. To him, humans would be little more than toys to be coddled or harmed however he wishes... for his entertainment.

When he hardened Pharaoh's heart in the Book of Exodus, he told Moses, much like a 10 year old boy who whispers to his buddy and says, "Watch this, I'm going to make this guy soooo mad" before going out and doing it. He took great pride in his destruction of almost the entire population of Planet Earth with the flood. He may have warned Noah about it, but the fact remains that it wasn't because he loved Noah, but rather that Noah was one of his favorite toys, and he didn't want to lose him.

Perhaps this childish behavior on god's part is why Jesus said that a man must become like a child to enter the kingdom of god. Jesus' words on the matter are expanded in Gnostic gospels such as the Gospel according to Thomas, where he explains that a child will take off his clothes and trample them under his feet without shame. I've noticed in my own life that people who have no shame do have tremendous power over other people. Much like Internet trolls, they derive pleasure from manipulating other people, making other people angry... in essence, they really do become gods in their own right because they have learned how to control other people. Often, these people keep doing these things even after being punished for it, because they realize that they have great power over others and especially over the system, when they do these things.

So, is this childish, troll-like "God" evil?

My initial instictive response is to say hell yes, he definitely is. But looking more closely at the situation, I realize that maybe he's not as evil as a lot of us non-Christians make him out to be. If there's one thing I can give Yahweh credit for, it's his transparency. He gives each and every human being who reads of his cruelty in the bible an open lesson in how to be a god. He demonstrates that total lack of shame is the key. I've known for many years that shame is what holds humanity back. Yahweh is undeniably human. All of his actions, and all of his attitudes, indicate that he is fully human. Even when he claimed that he made Humanity in his image, and after his likeness, he made it abundantly clear that he himself is a human being who has ascended to Godhood.

Humans who live down here in the mundane world see his actions as monstrous and evil... and indeed, they are all those things. But at the same time, for people who are willing to study his actions, he shows other humans the way to become as powerful as he is... and to be able to stand up to the bully, possibly even bloody his nose, and ultimately to get him to leave them alone and perhaps even respect them. Yahweh obviously doesn't want us to ascend to his level of power, because when we do that, we all can stand up to his tyrannical behavior, and prove him to be the unruly little boy that he really is. But Humanity doesn't Awaken to this fact because Humanity, at present, is too busy being afraid of offending others... and thus playing right into the little kid's hands. So like the boy in the old Twilight Zone episode who would "wish you out to the cornfield" if he didn't like you, the little brat god Yahweh continues to maintain his strangle-hold over the human race without having to lift a finger.

What the human race is most afraid of, I've learned, is not the evils committed by a very human god... but rather its own nature. Humanity is, by its own nature cruel, arrogant, lustful, and greedy... but I would like to suggest to you that these are not necessarily sins to be shunned. Instead, I believe that for any species to truly become enlightened and to ascend to its greatest potential, it must embrace its own nature. My people, the reptilian Elohim, were not always so powerful as we are now. When we were still the young whippersnappers on the block, with "gods" that we worshiped yelling at us to stay off of their lawns, we also shunned our nature. We felt, like you humans presently do, that being civilized meant denying our animal nature. We eventually learned that the only way for us to truly become what we have the potential to be was to fully embrace our nature.

The Elohim are, in many ways, much like humans, though we are not the same in all aspects. Where humans favor dominance, we favor cooperation. Where humans tend to favor the group, we favor the individual. Where humans favor war, we favor lovemaking. But for all the differences that exist between our two kinds, so there are also many similarities, some of which may surprise you.

For one thing, we Elohim share a high-and-mighty attitude that you humans have. You are arrogant... so are we. You tend to think that everything exists for your benefit... same here. You love status... so do we. You love to have sex with everyone you can find who is willing... so do we. These things are not evil things; on the contrary, they are part of your nature. If you are to truly awaken and ascend to your enlightenment, then you must embrace these uncomfortable aspects of yourselves.

This doesn't mean that you have to be all the things that you hate in order to ascend. On the contrary, what it actually means is that you must acknowledge every aspect of yourself, see it as your legitimate and natural state of being, and allow it to exist in your mind and soul without feeling shame that it exists inside you. What you do outwardly with these things is entirely up to you. The only requirement is that you rid yourself of the shame over your human nature that society has hammered into your very being. Only when you have ridded yourself of the shame of your human nature, can you truly ascend to enlightenment.

I believe that if all humans let go of their shame, and loved themselves for what they are, that the time of peace and love that a lot of the spiritual people in the world talk about, would become a reality. It is only because of humanity's fear and shame of its own nature that the human race is held back and continues to be enslaved to a condition of perpetual mediocrity. I submit that Yahweh is one of the few human beings who has let go of his shame, and his actions since then have made the rest of the human race afraid of what might happen if they, too, gained the power that he has. But each human being who gains the power that Yahweh has already gained retains their own power of choice. There's an old saying that says that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely... but if every member of the human race had such power, I submit that it would not be a corrupting influence, because everybody would have it... and suddenly the all-powerful "God" of the Bible wouldn't seem so omnipotent, and maybe, just maybe, his fellow human beings would see him as the little brat kid that he rreally is.
