#33 of Chronicles of FinalGamer 24 - Midline Shift

It takes an experienced warrior to always see it coming. It takes at least a whole family to know when to make THEM not see it coming. A brutal battle is not only the perfect opportunity to show not to fuck with this family, but also for showing how far Roy will go in order to hunt down his enemy, through fire and ice.

Perhaps it was his mood from nervous anticipation, or because of the different colours on the Citadel compared to Omega. But Roy now felt a colder wind run through the Citadel. In truth so did his allies, the city now in a state of mild caution. The region they were in had been understandably frightened concerning the recent attacks of "Delta-Six" which were now reported to have stopped at least for the time being. The comm signal tracked the Blue Suns group towards an industrial region at the far end of the docks, which was much farther away from the civilian passenger ships. Even getting there took some time considering they had to navigate their way through Zakera Ward, down several stories below and manage to make it through at least four security checkpoints with proper identification. Khern was only able to get through without suspicion due to his asari daughters and having a former licence as part of the medical corps, with Puttz being listed as a "rescue varren" for finding survivors. Calun had a banker's permit, whilst Roy had an official worker's licence that granted him passage across the entire galaxy, in most circumstances. The asari sisters struggled to resist gawking at windows for sales, keeping close to their father Khern despite the tantalising glint of shopping signs and deals that begged for their attention. Roy only stopped once while walking, and that was only because of a street area being blocked off by Citadel Security, the group converging their way around towards another side area. The constant throng of species in the winding large streets still threw off Roy, despite having been here long enough to get used to the sight of them, asking: "Ah wonder why thuh Citadel is such an important place." "Um," replied Alestia, "it's like the CENTRE of the galaxy? And council? Kinda obvious ain't it?" "Well yeah but ah mean, why not Illium? Why not a planet, why a space station or whutever?" "Yanno that IS a good question, why is that?" "I've heard rumours," said Calun, "that this space station is much older than it appears to be. And that it was previously inhabited by the Protheans before they disappeared to the Reapers. ...now...hhhhhhh considering the Reaper that came only perhaps nine months ago, I think-" "There's some kind of galactic conspiracy?" asked Khern. "Well...not conspiracy exactly, but something must add up here. The council have tried to deny the existence of it but...I was here." "So was I. We both saw that thing and plenty of other people did. Most of them are too stupid to realise but-" "Do you...hhhhh...think that Commander Shepard knew something?" "Undoubtedly, that doesn't come as coincidence to me, Shepard knew something about all this but now we'll never know. The secret died along with the spectre." "Ah don't even know whut this Shepard looks lahk," said Roy, "so ahm kinda in thuh dark." "It won't matter. Not anymore." "Alrigh'...hey uh Calun thanks for gettin' me that uh worker's permit, really appreciate it." "You've helped us enough times," said the volus, "I feel I can now repay you with something towards my...abilities." "Right...hope it wuzn't any trouble." "Hhhhh...oh no...not at all. It'd have been more trouble if you'd have been dead." "Hahaha, yeah ah bet that must be a bitch." "Taking false names from the dead is...very easy. Almost...too easy." "Aaaand now you're creepy," said Nirethia.

As they made their way past the last checkpoint, which had been authenticated previously by the Blue Suns themselves in order to allow access, the crew of the Chakino found themselves in the warehouse district. Normally when Roy thought of warehouses, he thought of places near the sea or river like the ones back home, huge iron storehouses with a multitude of crates sheer in size and weight. Here however, the only difference was that the warehouses were now simply large rooms within a bigger inside room, and that the sea was now replaced by the ocean of stars. Nevertheless the claustrophobic feeling of locked-in warehouse regions was disconcerting to Roy. Even more unnerving were the large hanging rails that clearly showed train carriages would come through here, sticking to his group closely without daring to look at them. Occasionally there would be the sound of rushing carriages, echoing across the wide space of containment areas which made Roy neatly flinch, gasping to suck up and take it. "You alright?" asked Nirethia. "Y-y-yeah," murmured Roy, "ahm fine, just...keep walking." "Any sign of them yet?" "Nope," said Khern. "You know how many there are?" "No idea," said Roy. "We should probably plan this out in case of an ambush." "Was about to say. Girls, this is gonna be a dock-slash-warehouse deal, so commence plan Freefall." "OOOOH!" said both girls. "Same as what we did before?" asked Nirethia. "Mmhmm," said Dhar Khern, "go do your thing, we've been back here before in the past so I think you two know the layout...I got a bad feeling about this." "Awww don't say that, now something bad IS gonna happen!" "Calun, go with them, same plan as before." "Got it," said the volus. "Roy, you and Puttz stick with me. We haven't been seen and the Suns don't know about our other friends so we'll have that advantage." "Alrigh'," said Roy, "cool, you guys do your thing an' ahll do mine." Puttz simply barked and panted readily, heading onwards behind Khern and Roy as they made their way closer towards the signal point. Eventually, after passing through variouse warehouses glittering in blue and purple, they found a Blue Suns member waiting beside an entrance. The warehouse was currently being built, an open space with wide-open ceiling with yellow and purple lighting and the odd industrial sign high above them. The signs of construction were now absent, the workers having gone home and the place left open apart from barriered warnings. Naturally this was no obstacle to the Blue Suns that were waiting inside, the batarian outside the entrance asking: "You got something to say to me?" "Yeah. Zaeed never saw it coming." "...heh...gotcha. Come in." "In? Place don't even have walls, is that even in?" "Don't be a smartass."

The batarian lead him in along with Puttz and Khern who soon saw the main group, a huge pack of Blue Suns squad members of at least two dozen strong. Humans, turians and batarians along with one single krogan leader, all of whom wore blue and white with black weapons in their hands. The warehouse interior, least as much an interior as it could be for only having two walls for the front and left with the right and back still under construction, was not exactly comforting to be in. A variety of futuristic construction equipment laid here, including cranes, signs, and hardplate benches full of lengths of fibrous metal that would be warped to their masters' will, once they returned the next day to complete it. But for now it would be the sight of a major confrontation, the krogan sitting up on a pile of steel planks of varying shapes and sizes all neatly propped up into a throne, or seat rather. "You the guy from Omega?" "Depends on whut guy," replied Roy. "Gimme the password." "Ah already gave it to your guy." "Humour me." "...Zaeed never saw it coming." The moment he said this there came the sound of a dozen clicks, rifles and handguns with the odd shotgun inbetween now aimed straight at his face, the varren behind him growling with fearful anticipation. The krogan just smirked simply saying: "Neither did you." "Ah sure didn't...unless ah never trusted you in thuh first place to be honourable." "Whut?" "You never tried a freefall?" said Khern. "It's pretty fun. Let me show you." With a single click from his fingers, the sounds of two bodies came crashing down from above, the twin blurs of red and violet suddenly landing hard with a destructive Nova explosion. A shuddering force that swept through the entire group, the asari shields immediately evaporated to become nothing more than potent pure chaotic energy that shattered the squad apart. Before they even had a chance to become vulnerable, Roy set up his own shield, slamming out his hands to create a perfect blue bubble effect around the entire group. "ROLLING SHIELD!" Some of the faster squad members managed to pick themselves up from being knocked down and fired straight at the Khern family, the shots somehow deflected barely from their trajectory by the bizarre translucent energy field. But before they could even punch through Roy's temporary shield, a rapid-fire shot came hurtling from above raining down upon their heads. Sniper shots, hurtling down with the speed of an assault rifle which gave a good enough distraction for the grouped family to start running towards enemies, the raptor hurling his rolling shield straight towards the nearest group with energy sparks aplenty, shattering their focus briefly. "SNIPER!" roared one squad member. "THE FUCK'S GOING ON?!" "KILL 'EM!" roared back the krogan. "NOBODY'S GETTING THROUGH US!"

The sniper could be barely seen, a round-looking shadow with glinting eyes peeking behind a sniper scope. The asari sisters worked together in kicking back three Suns mercs right into a pile of steel pipes, smacking their armoured backs hard against. They tried to fire back, but the sisters had recovered their shields in the time of not being hit before they both pulled out handguns. One would keep them locked down with precise gunfire, the other would come running in from one direction with a biotic charge attack, slamming furiously enough to break one's neck. The gargling batarian that suffered the blow slumped dead, but not before his human cohort took a swing at Nirethia and clocked her across the face, hitting her against the steel pipes before Alestia shot him through. He was punctured in the shoulder but not badly enough to be crippled, until Nirethia came swinging with a pure biotic fist fully charged up with energy. The human never stood a chance, his head completely crushed inwards from the nose soon caving in along with his upper lip, a cracking snap on the end of violet fingers. Roy was not exactly a brawler, or rather he lacked the finesse of a real fighter to utilise his strength in a way other than just swinging fists. But he had enough strength to make people think twice about coming near him, as evidenced by the turian who got a hefty crack on his face with one brutal haymaker, after Roy came charging at him before he had a chance to fire and simply bullrushed him against the wall. The turian however was a little more resilient, simply using the butt of his compact assault rifle to slam across Roy's face, scarring him slightly with the sharper tip before his silver-armoured knee went shooting upwards. Slamming straight into the turian's groin, he forced the merc to bend over in agony before pulverising him in the spine with a hammerfist from above, using both hands to come crashing down as one with a good concussion. But another turian came to assist his friend with an assault rifle of his own, scattering shots across the wall to try and catch Roy in the head. But the raptor slashed open a spout of water from his hands and swiftly summoned an ice wall, formed by the half-puddle completely covering his front view as the bullet shards buried themselves in thick ice. It helped delay the mass-effect-induced force somewhat before breaking through, giving Roy time to duck out from behind cover and come charging forwards with a wind blast attack, right when the turian was about to reload. He never saw it coming right until the last moment when a mass of black and silver muscle headbutted him with the force of a speeding vehicle.

Yet even he was more lucky than his friends who tried to take on the krogan Dhar Khern, who simply watched five of them try to come forth towards him. He smoothly brought out his warhammer, a giant's weapon truly with a head the size of a krogan's own, thick and monstrously heavy in his claws. Khern focused his aura straight into the hammer, letting it shimmer with a blue glow of biotic strength, waiting to see the first fool that came rushing up at him. He wasn't even concerned about the hail of gunfire that came to him, since it was merely a signal for him to start swinging. With practiced krogan brutality, he rushed forwards swinging his hammer with one hand like a baseball bat, cracking one blue set of armour to the point of ripping open one turian's stomach, the shards of metal forced inwards as he fell screaming into a puddle of blue ichor. The next fool to try attacking with a shotgun from behind soon saw her human life flash before her eyes, as the sideswinging blow of the hammer's head tore her head off, rolling across the warehouse floor as her body slumped back on its knees with bloody spurts. The bullets focused on Khern simply pinged off his armour, including his plated head but they would soon start to hurt if he did not act quickly. Whirling his hammer up high with an underarm swing, he slammed it down on the ground with such fury that the entire warehouse shook and reverbed with a deafening explosion, the biotic charge of the mace just literally exploding out onto the floor. Three mercs were unlucky enough to be caught in the blast radius, two of them well dead with brutalised innards and crushed chests when they hit back against the wall. The third was alive barely, shivering as she pulled up her rifle and began firing wildly, a female turian that screamed with bloodied voice. She managed to catch Khern nearly in the eye. But that simply sent him into a frenzy of cruel glee. Laughing as he rushed forwards, his blood lust went up as he came down with the hammer, crushing her entire body underneath in one thick splatter of blue complimenting the warehouse floor. Then he felt a powerful shot of a brutal shotgun blast him in the back, courtesy of the krogan leader that had enough of his team being torn apart, using his krogan-made shotgun to weaken Khern's back. The krogans turned to each other, the one in blue swiftly charging towards Khern and using his shotgun like a club, smacking across the head and dulling the old beast's senses. The mercenary krogan was a lot younger, and had speed on his side in being smaller than Khern when he began to violently slam his shotgun across his face, at least three more times. "LEAVE THE FIGHTIN' TO US, OLD TOOTHLESS! NARKUN DROKK RUNS THINGS AROUND HERE, AN' YOU DON'T WANNA FUCK WITH ME!"

Khern however took the blows with snarling growls and grabbed the shotgun on its fifth swing, pulling the Blue Suns merc towards him before a vile headbutt came hurtling down upon his head. The younger beast known as Drokk staggered back roaring, quickly getting out of range from Khern's hammer which came hurling down in front of him. The lack of a biotic charge however gave it no extra effect, other than breaking the floor with a horrid-looking small crater. Four more enemies however tried to take down Khern from behind, shooting him in the legs and trying to force him down as he went buckling with a roar. A roar of laughter. Lastly there was Puttz. Despite being an armoured varren, he was finding himself cornered by two punks that thought they could get off lightly by killing the family pet. But the snarling dog-like beast waited for the two humans to space themselves out, guns aimed straight upon his head before a sudden frenzy overtook him. His eyes shimmered blue, his fangs glinted like the moon upon a lake, as a force overwhelmed him. A force dwelling deep from inside that very briefly replaced the look of fear within his eyes. A force to kill. "_PUTTZ MURDER! _" His vicious howl was soon followed by Puttz suddenly barking a shot of biotic energy straight at one human, smacking him hard across the floor as the other tried to shoot him. But Puttz dodged left and right from the shots swiftly like a butterfly in the rain, panting with furious ire as he slammed into the second thug, sending him down upon his knees before chomping down on his throat. The fangs were powerful enough without the force of biotics behind them. But with such additional power, they were near-perfect for decapitation with a single bite. The varren tore the human's throat right out, a violent small burst of red fountain from the mercenary's throat as he scrabbled for dear life, fittingly like a dying dog as Puttz snapped his neck with another twisting crunch. The first human recoiled in horror and fury as he went firing on full-auto, his submachine gun spreading fire across the room as Puttz ducked and dodged over the hail of bullets with animalistic precision. Running right up towards the merc, he almost felt the gun fire straight through his mouth until he grabbed the human's gun in his jaws, ripping into the hand itself. The horror of the screaming human seeing his own hand turn blood-red with snapping fingers inside the beast's drooling jaws forced him to panic, struggling to pull back or at least try to punch the varren. Puttz did not like being punched, and he responded with a biotic bark that slammed the human back once more, right before he jumped on top and stabbed his claws into one of the merc's eyes. With digging motions, he scraped the flesh off of the human's face until reddened paste screamed up at him, lunging down for the killing bite to put him out of his misery fast.

Roy found himself being back-attacked by two batarians that came charging down with shotguns, double-blasting and forcing him to dodge out the way before sending a blast of water across their path. He waited for them to stumble slightly in the wet puddle before shimmering a spark of ice, running deep through the water itself to trap them by their very feet, their large boots solidifying to an eye-shattering cold. The first one was too busy trying to get out to not notice Roy popping up with a handgun, plugging him with two shots to the head after seven of them missed. He wasn't a very good shot, in fact he was utterly terrible but it was his fastest choice at taking down thugs, especially with armoured ones. The other merc managed to free himself after being forced off by his friend's falling corpse, a large thud of metal pushing him from his ice-cold restraints to come charging towards Roy. But the raptor had a backup plan always for when his powers needed use. He stood up fast with a dual water attack, slicing across the air with a blast of wind behind the water to act like a shocking whip. The desired effect was to send a stinging shrieking blow right across the batarian's face, blinding him temporarily with the force of liquid stabbing into his eyes like a hailstorm incarnate. Nirethia and Alestia found themselves in a small duel with two humans that first had them pinned down behind cover, spreading fire across the room with their assault rifles in tandem. The dual force was unrelenting, chipping away at their thankfully-impenetrable cover before one decided to run for it, heading straight towards them whilst his friend took cautious shots to keep them crouched low. It wasn't until the running human's head exploded from the back in a small red burst that this plan completely fell flat on its face, not unlike the human himself. The sisters nodded to each other upon realising they had help, swiftly climbing up as Nirethia gave her younger a boost, blasting her with biotic energy that send her hurtling across the floor. Her clash with the remaining human was earth-shuddering, enough to send tremors through the very metal when his body was crushed hard between steel and biotic force. He managed to bear through the pain furiously with a roaring punch, slamming his fist straight into Alestia's face before kicking hard up into her gut once her aura dissipated. But her sister was ready to take him, shooting straight for his head the moment Alestia buckled hard downwards, the human not even realising until the third shot went through his eye. Stumbling backwards, he crumpled to the floor whilst she ran up to her sister and picked her up, both of them nodding up towards the sniper friend who breathed heavily through his suit, nodding dryly before loading up his gun. A Raptor-class sniper rifle, given the same build as that of an assault rifle, aiming for speed rather than strength. Khern was losing himself to the krogan bloodlust, a feeling he had not felt in so long as he whirled his hammer around himself whilst dealing with more thugs that tried to fight him. Their bullets were weak, miserable little shots that chipped barely at his armour, both steel and natural as he crunched one turian's head hard against a pile of steel planks, severing his body into three with sheer force. But the other three grunts did their best in shotgunning him in the back, cracking some of his armour as he simply laughed cackling. A most terrifying sound to hear from a krogan.

His response soon came in the form of a violent upswing, turning hard around to whack one human thick across his jaw with such ferocity, that he flew literally upwards into the air with a crushed chest, the only thing saving him from complete death being the force of gravity not playing into effect before he hit a large sign above him, a yellow one entitled "UNDER CONSTRUCTION". Crackling of electricity, it soon stopped blinking before shutting off altogether, the human falling back to hit upon the girder-shaped railing underneath. Right in front of the volus with a sniper rifle. The human winced softly as he tried to comprehend what just happened. He was lying somewhere, yet not on the ground that he knew as sparks came fluttering down upon him like dying fireflies. The volus breathed harshly above him, the Raptor sniper rifle aimed straight at the human's head. "You...hhhhhh...are not welcome up here." With a simple nudge he pushed the human thug off the railing, sending him back down towards the ground as Khern saw him falling. The krogan shoved through the last two thugs before him to come swinging down with the hammer, right before the human felt the ground meet up to him. Gravity was a cruel mistress when trapped between a large weight and a hard steel floor, as evidenced by the thicker spread of pasted blood between chunks of armoured meat. The two thugs backed off slightly, whimpering in panic before their krogan leader came charging back in, barrelling straight towards Dhar Khern and knocking him over by pure speed. Or at least he tried to before the much older krogan managed to stand his ground and use his hammer like a guard, the shotgun clashing against its handle like swords upon the battlefield. The young krogan Drokk roared and screamed furiously in anger, whilst the older beast simply snarled and gritted his teeth in pure demonstration. The mercs at the side dared not to interfere, at least until Puttz came jumping on top of one of them and stomped his head unconscious, right before Alestia came kicking hard with a biotic charging leap as her boot slammed into the other's face. With no guards left standing, all eyes were left upon the two krogans clashing, shotgun against hammer, blind with rage and battle lust before their heads locked tight, plates scraping against each other ruthlessly to the point of shedding parts of them off like red dust from an ancient sandstone. Nirethia came running to help, trying to assist but the young krogan merc saw what she was up to, ducking hard before briefly shoving the bigger krogan away and swinging his shotgun at the asari's face. The hard crack across her face sent her across the floor, but in turn the krogan's smile soon disappeared at the sight of Khern. His eyes went tight, his laughter now gone as his hands suddenly locked around Narkun's throat. Hard enough to choke him suddenly before lifting him up off his feet, he violently punched him in the face with a brutal slamming fist, cracking into Narkun's eye as he shrieked and snarled trying to bite at Khern's hand, punctuating each word with a deep knuckle-scrape of the krogan's eye socket. "_That. Was my. Daughter, you little BITCH! _" The final punch sent him hurtling hard across the floor of the warehouse. The body landed like a dead rhinoceros falling off a cliff, as a violent tremble accompanied his fall. Drokk found himself near a hallway exit at the back of the building, presumably to be added later on. The pain and sound of fury in his ears sent him on a crash course of singular destruction straight towards the first thing he saw. Which just happened to be Roy standing in front of the hallway exit trying to catch his breath. "Oh...shi-"

The wind was knocked hard out of his lungs by the brute charge, as Drokk pulverised the boarded-up exit and breaking through steel, sending Roy through towards a back area that was filled with boxes and glass panels. The hallway exit behind them crumbled into thick metal blockage, trapping the two of them together as Roy staggered up over to a large wooden crate. He saw the furious krogan. Piercing eyes beneath a scarred and reddened face, plated wounds dripping with a dark orange blood across his left eye. "You fucked with the wrong krogan you black fucking lizard." "Is there a right krogan to fuck with?" said Roy snarkily. "RAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH!" Frenzy took him as he brought up his shotgun, still in his grip as he fired two shots straight towards the raptor. He ducked away behind the crate, but it quickly started to splinter from the blasts as he dodged his way through the obstacle course of construction work. Hopping over a metal counter, he ducked and waited until the shooting was over, the crate now destroyed as the krogan roared with vengeance. "WHERE ARE YOU!? COME OUT SO I CAN KILL YA-ARGH!" Roy popped out to fire at Narkun's head, only surprising him but not actually hurting him with his paltry pistol shots which to a krogan were not-so-fatal. Enough shots would get one down, but far more shots required than with any other creature. He was also not very good with a gun, missing three of the five shots aimed towards Drokk with two hitting in the eye. The krogan went charging through the room, smashing through a full plate of glass with bloody shreds upon him as Roy ran out of cover, desperately dodging the metal counter that was soon hurled at him furiously. Then Roy thought of an idea, seeing the destruction that Drokk was causing on himself. He headed over towards the other side of the room, hiding behind a temporary wall frame as he set up a plate of glass alongside it. Then he ducked out from the side of it and went shooting half a clip, emptying half of that into the krogan's chest uselessly when only five bullets went in. And even that did not stop a krogan no matter how young an adult. "STOP! SHOOTING AT MEEEEEEE!" "Aw whut's thuh matter, you gonna cry now boy? Gonna get all weepy for mommy?!" "SHUT UP, I'M GONNA FUCKING KILL YOU! _" "Hey YOU broke our deal, you tell me where James Campbell is an' ahll come quietly!" "_FUCK YOU!" "No, fuck you AND your mother, you inbred piece of shit!" The krogan charged forth with that insult, roaring as he slammed his head through the weak frame and straight into another plate of glass that shredded across his face and body. His armoured sections were fine, but his head was badly losing blood, cut up with orange rivets slicing across his plated skin as he saw Roy suddenly come up against him, a violent charge of wind signalling his presence. The raptor slammed his entire body with brute force, his entire weight hurtling through the air as he rammed his elbow straight into Narkun's face, the krogan stumbling back hard and falling over in pain. "AAAAARGH! YOU! SHIT!" "Give up yet?! You got one chance now before ah get nasty!" "I HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED!"

Drokk suddenly leapt up and pounded Roy against a pillar, the steel driving against his back hard as he writhed in agony, forced upright against the brutish krogan before suddenly taking a hit. The beast went slamming with his fists, left and right across the black snout before slamming a brutal left hook that tore him down to the floor. Roy was seeing stars, his eyes blinking with agony as blood dripped harshly down his brutishly-swollen cheek. Spitting out red from his mouth, he pulled out his gun and fired what remaining ammo he had, but he was only able to get three shots off before Drokk slammed him again. Roy was on the floor with a krogan slamming past him, taken by a shouldertackle and thrown to the side as he staggered himself up, waiting to take another hit. The moment the krogan turned and brought up his shotgun, the raptor summoned a blast of ice straight from his fists which suddenly shot into Drokk's face, blinding him temporarily enough for Roy to come up close with another new attack. "HOWLING TEMPEST! _" His scream came following from a sudden icy wind wrapped round his body, shimmering a white chrism before the krogan's eyes before a biting cold began to assault his face. Normally a krogan would not care about this, but the sheer velocity of shards of ice suddenly forming from thin air, hurling across his face as they wrapped around Roy like a shield, was startling to say the least. He fell back stumbling from the odd pain of ice in his wounds before Roy shouted: "_RAGING BLAST!" The shards thickened around his outstretched hand, dripping with blood which soon solidified forming red crystals neatly, before the ice shattered outwards with a sudden fist-punching force. The blast forced his enemy backwards, struggling to not fall as the ice shot him in the face, screaming as the burning cold went deep into his wounds. Roy knelt down towards the krogan now laying on his rear, clutching his face whilst struggling not to blink. "AAAAAAARRRRGH! MY FACE! THE FUCK DID YOU DO?!" "Thought you might...hhh...need sum tahm to cool off," said Roy struggling. "Now...where is he?" The krogan panted hotly into his face, forcing Roy to slam the butt of his pistol hard upon the krogan's eye and make him roar with pain. "WHERE IS HE?!" "I DON'T KNOW, THEY TOOK HIM OFF SOMEWHERE!" "WHO DID?!" "BARROWS, SHE TOOK HIM ON A SHIP, FLEW OFF TO...TO-" "I am NOT FUCKING AROUND ANYMORE!" He slammed the pistol harder into the krogan's eye, wounding him further as the ice shards went deeper threatening a permanent injury. He had no time to play good cop, and he was certainly not going to give the criminal merc a chance after the attempted murder it tried to commit. "You fuckin' tell me where she took him right now, or else ahma shove this ice so far up your fucking skull you will WISH I'd burnt you instead." "I DON'T KNOW, HONEST JUST-I GIVE UP!" "...ah don't believe you." "I SWEAR I DO!" "Sure you do."

The moment Roy heard the sounds of debris being moved, he harshly whistled out towards the area behind him. Suddenly appearing from around the corner, Puttz came charging forth to be at Roy's side, snarling fangs drooling above the krogan's body. The raptor headlocked Drokk and put a gun to his head, watching Puttz move straight towards the krogan's armoured crotch. "See that? That's a biotic varren, jaws able to pierce through thuh toughest armour. An' ahm gonna bring those fangs down on your balls if you don't fucking TELL ME WHERE HE IS!" "FUCK YOU, I DON'T NEED NO-_ AAAAAAAAAAARGH! " The varren didn't even wait for a signal before biting down, his fangs glowing like monstrous swords as they sank into the cracked armour. They were deep enough to shank straight through the armoured crotch of the krogan, his roars of screaming anguish resonating through the area as Roy grabbed his head firmly before slamming it on the wall behind him. "TELL ME WHERE THEY WENT! _WHERE'S JAMES CAMPBELL?!" "A-AAAAAAAARGH! MAKE IT STOP, MAKE IT STOOOOP! _" "AH WILL MAKE HIM STOP WHEN YOU MAKE IT STOP, NOW WHERE THE FUCK DID THEY GO!? ...PUTTZ, PULL 'IM HARD!" "_YOU SICK FUCK STOP DOING THIS TO MEEEEE!" The creature grinned and bit down harder, the fangs tearing through the inner flesh and ripping the inside muscle asunder, digging their way further towards the krogan's quad of internal testicles with every pressing minute. The biotically-charged fangs of the varren made short work of at least one testes, scraping across the inner membrane as blood dripped hotly out of the krogan's crotch, his shrieking agony loud and clear throughout the place the moment Puttz began to pull at the flesh, backpedalling hard to rip the crotch itself apart. "YOU EITHER TELL ME AN' WALK AWAY NOW, OR WATCH YOUR ENTIRE BLOODLINE DIE OUT ON THIS VARREN'S JAWS, AN' YOU AIN'T NEVER GONNA SURVIVE LAHK A STERILE LITTLE BITCH LAHK YOU ALREADY ARE! NOW TELL ME WHERE JAMES CAMPBELL IS, YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT! _" "_ALRIGHT! ALRIGHT I'LL TELL YOU JUST PLEASE MAKE IT STOOOOOP!" "PUTTZ, HEEL!"

The varren suddenly let go on command, the slight remains of flesh and gristle hanging from between the krogan's legs like a placenta. Roy had never heard a krogan sob before, but it was an unnerving sound. Like a monster weeping for its love as he sobbed: "I jus' wanted an easy pay, who the fuck are you?!" "Mah name is Roy MacGregor...just be glad ah left you with three of them, or else." "Wh-whut...h-hhhh...hoh Aralakh it hurts...you...you're a fucking psycho." "And you are a goddamn merc, a killer who does this same shit for money." "Least I got an excuse...whut's yours?" "You are in thuh way of me catching a dangerous criminal. By preventing me from catching him, you are aiding and abetting him. That makes you a criminal lahk him." "Fuck this...I'm not doin' this anymore...hhhhh...hhhhhh..." "AH-AH!" The krogan stopped and froze as he struggled to get up, wincing as he tried to make his legs not buckle under the pain. "You didn't answer me. Where...is James...Campbell?" "H-he went to Benning," said the krogan heaving. "H-him an' Barrows, they got on a ship to Benning. Went to some infirmary, I was just...sent out here cuz I thought it'd be an easy mission...I only got hired on like a year ago." "You don't know thuh hospital name?" "I don't...w-wait, yeah no I do! I-it wuz...the Muraishi Infirmary, thassit. That's it I swear!" "Alrigh'...go get yourself cleaned up, go to a hospital, they'll have no right to refuse you." "B-but...whut if they think I got a gun?" "Then drop your gun, get on your knees sobbin' like thuh bitch you are an' they HAVE to let you in. You don't got no pride anymore, frankly ah think you should leave this business before sumthin' else happens to you. Least ah left you alive, ah coulda just killed you right now after ah wuz done with you. Here." Roy took the shotgun off from him before he grabbed the krogan's ice-covered face softly, warming it up with a smouldering fire that he controlled consciously. Not hot enough to burn but enough to go above room temperature, melting the ice smoothly from Drokk's face before he could sigh happily with relief. "You...nnnngh...well...least I don't have to worry about my eyes anymore. Thanks." "Can you walk your way to thuh hospital?" "Yeah...I think so. Nnnnngh...you...you better watch out for that Mrs. Barrows chick." "Why?" "Cuz she...she wuz a hell of a lot scarier than you were." The krogan hobbled off towards the industrial region's exit, hoping to find a hospital close in the area as Roy rejoined the rest of his group, coming in through the debris after Drokk surrendered his way through. Khern was suspicious, but after Roy made them put their weapons down they let him through, the krogan warlord asking: "Why did you let him walk?" "He couldn't fight anymore," said Roy. "He gave up, gave me whut ah wanted." "Mercy is not welcome on the battlefield." "Mercy can change a criminal into a hero." "Then why won't you extend the same to this target of yours." "...ah gave him that chance too often." Roy walked off back to the ship, the rest of the crew following as they made their plans for the next area. The Benning infirmary of Muraishi was their target, and Roy hoped that at the very least he would catch both James and the Blue Suns captors with their guard down. But instead things would take a very different turn that no one would expect. Not even James.
