#20 of The Mating Season: A Life of Dreams

Chapter 20

Roan and Theo walked the shore, paw in paw, alone. The pink and gold sunset reflected on the rippling surface of the sea like a dripping painting. Theo saw Roan's gentle green eyes gazing dreamily at the sight and smiled. It was the end of yet another hectic day, and as seemed typical of Roan's family - Theo thought - there had recently been yet another fight. The day before, Zane dragged Theo off to a last minute party hosted at the village bathhouse. Given that Zane was straight, there were mostly females there. But Zane had paid one male in particular to show up and dance for Theo - a handsome young male he met in the market, who was down on his luck and needed the trade beads.

Theo didn't know he was being taken to a party. Zane meant for the party to be a surprise, so he lied and told Theo they were going (supposedly at Hris' request) to drag home Yaholo and Kuza - who were there and waiting with more than a dozen beautiful young females when they arrived.

The bathhouse had been decorated with many strings of flowers, and standing around against the walls, many naked young girls strummed lutes and played flutes. There was also a great table, laden with ale, fruit, and succulent meats. Kuza sat at the table with Yaholo, who was surrounded by females fighting to massage his shoulders -- much to Kuza's annoyance.

The crowd of females squealed when they saw Theo and left Yaholo, running toward the newcomer with bouncing tits. They put flower garlands around Theo's throat, flower garlands on his head. One girl pulled Theo close by the garland around his neck and kissed him hard before he could stop her. She grabbed his cock with hungry fingers as she kissed him. To his dismay, he stiffened at once, but he squirmed out of her grasp and nervously pried himself free of yet another girl.

The girls were relentless in their advances. They kissed Theo's cheeks when they couldn't get his mouth and rubbed his chest, rubbed the soft mounds of their tits on him and fanned the scent of their pussies on the air with their tails. They fought to suck his dick when he sat on the edge of the bath, and it was all he could do to stop them. Then Zane brought out his "party boy" to dance for Theo.

Theo had not told Roan, of course, but the boy who danced for him. . . . it was the most erotic experience of his life. The boy was slender and hardly athletic - which was just how Theo liked his males. He came in wearing a red thong that sank up his soft ass cheeks and choked his heavy balls and cock. Hooking his thumbs in the thong, he smiled at Theo and gyrated his hips. His long mane fell into pretty eyes as he licked his lips and twisted his slender body into a sensual dance.

Theo soon learned that the dancer's name was Okemo. He sat on the edge of the bath with a hard cock, watching as the boy danced for him. He throbbed harder when he leaned close and whispered nasty things in his ear. He waved his crotch in Theo's face and pulled the thong open with his thumb, a silent appeal for a trade bead.

Chuckling, a half-drunk Zane dropped a heavy pouch of trade beads on the floor beside Theo. Theo hesitated . . . but reached in the pouch and drew out a fistful of beads. He slid his paw deep in Okemo's thong and felt the warm, soft flesh of the male's bulging erection. He hastily started to withdraw, but Okemo caught his paw and smiled at him, sinking it deeper. Theo swallowed hard as his paw closed on Okemo's cock. Okemo watched him lustily from behind loose strands of mane. He tugged with his thumb, and his dick sprang free of the thong - right in Theo's face.

Theo just barely escaped the party with a dripping hard-on. Zane didn't even notice when he left: he was too busy making out with random pretty females. Theo went home and -- without a word -- fucked Roan in a frenzy. After the mad sex over a chair, Roan demanded to know what had gotten into Theo. Theo gave in and told him. . . . and as he was sleeping, Roan went off to Zaldon's house in the middle of the night . . . and beat up Zane.

Theo smiled. Not that Roan could really beat his brother up. But Zane was so hung over after the party, it wasn't hard for Roan to slap him around. When Theo arrived at Zaldon's house in Roan's wake, everyone was shouting and yelling as Roan and Zane rolled across the sitting room floor. They slammed into walls, upset chairs, and banged into shelves, bringing down the contents on their heads. Lea watched in horror, as beside her, Ohana shouted for the boys to stop. Loryn and Kilyan were also shouting as they tried to leap in and stop the fight. It was Lynny who finally grabbed Roan by the scruff and peeled him off his brother - with the expertise of someone who had done it many times before.

Aliona ran to Zane and peered up at him. She grabbed his face and examined it, her blue eyes frightened. Ohana joined her.

"What in the hell," Kel snarled, pushing past an astonished Julyan, "is going on, Roan!"

Lynny had not let Roan go: he was still fighting to get at Zane. "I'll kill him! I'll kill him! Lemme go! Lemme go!" was all the answer Kel got from Roan.

Theo cleared his throat. "Zane, uh . . . threw a bachelor party for me."

Standing beside Julyan, Zaldon shook his head at Zane. "You did what?"

Everyone in the room looked at Zane incredulously, and Theo knew why they were angry. Everyone knew Roan did not want such a party for Theo. It was something of a sun wolf tradition - perhaps the tradition that Roan hated the most. Zane knew Roan didn't want it . . . but he did it any damn way.

Zane's ears flattened sheepishly.

Loryn busted up laughing. He was the only one in the room not indignant. "Is that all? Why wasn't I invited?"

"Loryn!" Kira scolded. She slapped her husband's paw and he stopped laughing at once, looking shamefaced when Lea shook her head at him.

Mora and Nyssa were standing on the stairs, and Theo wished he hadn't said anything. He felt bad for Zane's mortified wives, who glared at their towering husband before promptly spinning about and stomping up the stairs.

Standing at the bottom of the stairs, Idella watched sadly as Mora and Nyssa stormed away. She went after them.

"Mora . . ." Zane moaned, holding out an imploring paw. "Nyssa . . . wait . . . I can explain . . ." He rubbed a big paw in his eye.

Ohana snorted. "Explain? You can't even talk, you hung-over, _foolish_boy!"

"Ow!" Zane cried when his mother hit him upside the head. "Mom!"

"We should let Roan beat the snot out of you," went on Ohana, folding her slender arms. "Serves you right."

Still holding a heaving, glaring Roan fast, Lynny chuckled. "Ohana . . . what did we discuss about letting Zane be an adult and make stupid _adult_decisions?"

Ohana's lip curled prettily around her fang. "Maybe he's legally an adult, but by all rights, he is still a stupid teenage pup who needs his mother to smack him!"

"Ow!" Zane cried when he was hit again. "Mom!"

"Cheating on your wives!" Ohana scolded. "You did, didn't you? Tch. I did not raise a son to betray his wife!"

Kilyan stepped forward. "Ohana," he said, glaring at his son, "let me handle this."

Theo winced when Kilyan smacked his son upside the head ("Ow! Dad!"), then grabbed him by the ear and proceeded to drag him through the kitchen and out into the garden - where he yelled at him for the whole house to hear regardless.

Loryn laughed and shook his head. "I'm going back to bed." He playfully offered Kira his big arm. "Shall we?"

Kira smiled and took Loryn's arm. They went up the stairs, and it wasn't long before Zaldon, Julyan, and Lynny followed. Kel wanted to stay behind, but Aliona reminded her husband that it was Kilyan, Lea, and Ohana's job as parents to short the mess out.

"Besides," Aliona went on, leading Kel away by the arm, "they aren't children anymore. What happened is really between Roan, Theo, and Zane, and they should be the ones to settle matters. We'll leave Kilyan and his wives to figure that part out."

Kel laughed softly and kissed his wife's cheek. "Alright, my Aliona."

Theo then found himself standing with Roan, Lea, and Ohana. Kilyan's wives looked at Theo imploringly. Roan did too.

"Theo . . . did you . . .?" Roan glanced at his mothers. "Mom . . . Ohana . . . could you give us a moment?"

Lea's lashes fluttered. She and Ohana exchanged glances, and Theo knew they were finally realizing what Aliona had told Kel: at the end of the day, what had happened was really none of their business.

"Alright, honey," Lea said. She rubbed Roan's shoulder and kissed his cheek. "But Mommy will be upstairs if you need her --"

"Mom," Roan moaned.

Ohana laughed. "Come on, Lea. Let's leave the future husbands to practice working out their problems."

Lea laughed too.

Roan rubbed his eyes, somewhere between embarrassment and aggravation as Kilyan's laughing wives went up the stairs. He looked at Theo uncertainly.

Theo cleared his throat and sat on the couch, patting the cushion for Roan to join him. He did.

"Theo," Roan repeated. He closed his eyes miserably. "Please tell me you didn't get drunk and sleep with someone else. You didn't, did you?"

"Why didn't you ask me before? I didn't come home smelling like sex and ale, did I?"

"Zane looked so guilty when I confronted him. I just wanted to be sure."

"I wouldn't cheat on you, Roan." He looked away bitterly. "You can count on me for that."

Roan's pretty green eyes narrowed. "What the hell is that supposed to mean? Are you going to rub Hukida in my face the rest of our lives?"

"Possibly."

"Ugh!"

Theo smiled. "I'm sorry, Roan. I'm not going to get over what I saw just like that . . ."

Roan rolled his eyes, exasperated. "You didn't see anything but us sleeping!"

Theo's face darkened. "That was enough." He looked at Roan with soft black eyes and touched his mane. "I'm still frightened of losing you. I almost didn't tell you about the party. I was scared you wouldn't believe me."

"I appreciate the honesty," Roan said, closing his paw over Theo's. He smiled. "Let's go home. We left your mom and dad. They might have woken up, wondering where we've gone."

Theo nodded, and they rose from the couch.

"And when we get home," Theo said, leading Roan out the door by the paw, "I'll do that massage to you . . . the one I learned at the bathes."

"The time we went together or the time you went with Zane?" Roan said suspiciously.

Theo smiled mischievously and put his arm around Roan. "I learned a lot of things I can do to you . . . both times I went."

Present-day Theo glanced at Roan and wanted to kiss him. Roan always looked so sweet when he was admiring the sunset, so completely kissable.

The breeze picked up, sweeping off the water, and Roan's long black mane rippled back. As if he felt Theo's admiring gaze, he looked at him and smiled.

Theo squeezed Roan's paw. "So . . . tomorrow's the big day."

Roan smiled bright. "Are you nervous?"

"Are you?"

Roan frowned anxiously. "I just want everything to be alright," he said, the green eyes worried. "I don't want anything to go wrong. It's our --"

"Special day," Theo finished for him, as if he was tired of hearing the phrase.

Roan laughed at Theo's exasperation. "Theo! We only get one wedding. We'll remember this day for the rest of our lives, just like you said."

Theo snorted. "Who says we only get one wedding?" He touched Roan's chin. "I'd marry you as many times as you'd have me, babe."

Roan's long lashes fanned down happily. Theo playfully swung their clasped paws, and he smiled when Roan dropped his tail around his.

"Tell me you made up with Zane today."

"I did," Roan said heavily. He glanced at Theo. "I can't understand why he's being such an idiot! It's like he's jealous I'm getting all the attention or something."

Theo shook his head. "No, that's not it, babe."

Roan's ears flattened sadly. "Then what is it?" He glanced at Theo curiously. "You know, don't you? Zane's been talking to you! Tch. My husband is closer to my brother than I am!"

Theo smiled. "My husband," he repeated, kissing Roan's cheek. "I like that."

Roan blushed a little. "Well, you might as well be."

"Yeah," Theo admitted, sighing, "I talked to Zane. Back at the baths when he was drunk, I pried him off some girl and we had a chance to talk before Okemo stuck his dick in my ear."

Roan laughed flatly. "And what did he tell you? That he was jealous, right?"

"It was hard to make out. He was drunk and slurring . . . but I know he said something about Yuri."

Roan stared straight ahead as it dawned on him. Ah. Zane was depressed because Yuri - his first love - was getting married. He shook his head and scowled. "Yuri's getting married - but why punish me for it? He knew damn well I didn't want you to have one of those nasty sun wolf parties --!"

Theo laughed. "It was nasty, alright. We should invite Okemo to our house to dance some time. He offered."

"Theo!" Roan cried, blushing bright.

Theo kissed his cheek, his ear. "I would love to see him dancing for you, your reaction . . . your expression and your dick getting hard."

"I'd rather if _you_danced for me."

"Buy me a thong. I'll get on a table."

Roan laughed, his voice echoing over the water.

They strolled the sand in happy silence a while, and in the distance, they could see the sun village looming on its great hill. They could see the ships in port and their massive sails, the gulls that circled the sky. Further down the beach, families were lying on the sand, building sandcastles, splashing in the shallows. Roan and Theo had walked far enough that they were alone - without the threat of being isolated completely.

They'd had many such walks together, even back when they were both still living in the summer village. They would meet in secret when they were supposed to be on patrol, and they would walk paw in paw through the trees, talking, laughing . . . sometimes stopping to make out. They took walks at Theo's request: he loved to walk with Roan. It filled him with content to do so.

"How is your father handling all this?" Roan asked quietly. "He seemed cheerful enough at breakfast this morning."

"Ha. Dad is falling apart. It was always his dream to see me settle down with a female and have seventy sons. He's putting on a brave face. I know inside he's disappointed."

"What if our child is straight? Will you be disappointed?"

Theo laughed lightly at Roan's teasing. "I could care less what our child would be - straight, tail chaser - pussy licker. So long as our kid has a good heart - assuming we're having_a kid. Geez, you and Yuri are _obsessed."

Roan glanced at his lover sheepishly. "We want to have families, Theo. In the summer village, I would have taken a wife. She would have given birth by now . . . I'd be a father . . ." Roan sighed.

Theo glanced at Roan and realized for the first time how deeply his lover revered the summer wolf customs. Roan did not wish to honor the customs out of duty, but because it made him feel like a true summer wolf to do so. Failing to honor the customs of his tribe probably meant losing a part of his identity for him.

Theo squeezed Roan's paw again. "We'll have a kid, babe. I promise. Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but we'll have one. I just want to enjoy my freedom and youth a bit longer. Don't you?" he said with a weak laugh. "I want to host dinner parties with all our friends, try new things in bed with you . . . have time to visit the bathhouse." He wrapped his arm around Roan and hugged him close. "Didn't you enjoy going to the bathhouse with me?" he whispered, his cheek against Roan's cheek.

Roan blushed bright. He and Theo had gone to the bathhouse together a day before the incident with Zane's bachelor party. After a few hours, they found themselves in the sauna alone. Roan straddled Theo's lap . . . and sat on his cock. They made love in the steam, their wet manes limp in their eyes, their moans loud in the silence. Roan remembered how Theo squeezed his ass, helping him move up and down on his cock. Each time his body moved, Roan's hard cock rubbed against Theo's rippling belly, and the friction . . . made him squirt.

"We won't have time for that with a kid," Theo went on. "I intend to be a big part of my kid's life, Roan. If we have one, I'll be a daddy. Not a sperm donor."

Roan glanced at Theo fondly. "I've already picked out colors for the nursery. I was thinking lavender if it's a girl --!"

Theo groaned.

Roan laughed. "Alright, alright . . ."

"And your arm is still mending," Theo added, shaking his head. "They really hurt you, Roan," he said sadly. "I don't want to see you on patrol again, let alone trying to hold a baby. Wait until it feels stronger."

Bent on protesting, Roan flexed the arm that had been injured and resisted wincing when pain shot to his elbow. He glanced at Theo furtively, who seemed to guess at his pain regardless.

"What's your rush to have a kid anyway?" Theo asked wearily. "I know you're trying to hold on to your heritage . . ."

"It's not just that. I feel like a pup! Zane has two kids and two wives, and here I am, _just_getting married."

Theo stroked the back of Roan's mane. "Life's not a competition, babe. Here in the sun village, we can live at our own pace! We don't have to keep popping out kids to honor the circle of life ala summer tribe standards . . ."

Roan looked at Theo curiously. "I never realized you hated the customs back home . . ."

"I don't hate the customs," Theo said, more darkly than he intended. He halted, waving angrily. "But look where the customs got us! If they accepted tail chasers --!"

"I know, sweetie," Roan said, rubbing a soothing paw over Theo's chest. "It's alright now. We're free. You don't have to worry anymore."

Theo blinked the anger away and smiled at Roan. "Promise me you'll get some rest, allow your arm to heal. Don't go working in the garden for long hours like you do."

"I promise, sweetie."

"And don't go walking anywhere alone . . . ever again."

"Theo!" Roan laughed. "You want me to live my life in fear?"

"No," he said, squeezing Roan's fingers. He lifted their clasped paws and kissed Roan's paw. "I want you to be safe. Your family kinda has a track record for getting kidnapped."

Roan laughed flatly. Theo looked at him, and knew he didn't know the whole story, not like Theo did.

Hanging around Loryn meant hanging around gossip, and as a result, Theo had heard more than twice about Aliona getting kidnapped when she was a young mother. He also knew about Roan's mother being taken. Now Roan himself had been taken. But Theo was damned if that ever happened again.

"My dad was kidnapped," Roan said sadly.

Theo's ears pricked forward. "What?"

"Yeah. He was taken by slavers when I was a little kid. All these years and I never knew! He lied to me and Zane! I . . . I guess I understand. He was trying to protect us . . ."

"Babe . . . what are you talking about?"

Roan took a shuddering breath. "Those slavers were after my father, Theo! That's why they took me - they thought I was him! Dad was a slave in the moon village once. . . . a sex slave." Roan shivered miserably.

Ah. Theo stared off. So _that_was why the slavers wanted Kilyan. He had spent the week angry and perplexed as he tried to push the memory of that horrible day away.

"Have you and Kilyan talked about this?"

Roan shook his head glumly. "I think he just wants to forget what happened. Me too . . ." He blinked sadly, and Theo knew he was thinking of Hukida.

Theo couldn't blame Roan. He, too, had spent the week trying to forget. But he couldn't get it out of his head, Yuri choking that prisoner with the light from her staff, Yuri with a murderous glint in her eye! It took him back to the bloody day on the cliff each time he thought of it. The things Yuri had the ability to do . . . were horrifying.

Theo cleared his throat. "So . . . we know Zane is handling things with Yuri horribly. How are you handling it?"

Roan looked up, startled. "What do you mean? I'm happy for Yuri!"

"But you loved her once," Theo said, almost bitterly.

Roan smiled in amusement at Theo's jealous black eyes. He halted and Theo did too. They faced each other as behind them, the sinking sun continued to reflect its golden hues on the water. The breeze picked up again, dragging their manes around their faces. Roan thought Theo looked somewhere between angry and sad. He touched his lover's face tenderly.

"Theo," Roan whispered, "the moment you took me in the forest was the moment I started loving you. And only you."

Then Roan kissed Theo - so warmly, so fervently that he never doubted him again.
