Lost

Chapter One

Part one:

The cool night breeze ruffled a head of Jet black hair, the moonlight catching in the shiny waves. The moons mirror image was reflected as deep, black eyes looked up at the silver orb. Light skin glimmered in the soft glow, and great, silver wings seemed to give of their own luminescence. A long silver tail swayed behind him, as he stood on the branch of the gargantuan tree.

Black boots gripped the trees bark, the extra support hardly necessary with both wings and tail. Aged jeans covered his legs, so old and worn, the original black was no more than a dull, dark grey. They fit comfortably on him, and were just loose enough to require the leather belt around his waist. A black T-shirt covered his upper body, but it was so tight across his broad chest that it fit him like a second skin, showing every sharp cut of his muscles. He was finely toned, slim muscles made up his entire form, but they were tight, and you could almost see the power resting inside of them, waiting to be unleashed. The power of dragons rested inside of him.

The Half Dragons face was solemn as he gazed up at the night sky, and nothing at all. His deep eyes were glassy, glazed over with memories of a world of his past, gone forever. The wind blew.

"Nova! What are you doing up there!?"

The half dragon looked down at the ground, finding the owner of the soft voice. His eyes changed almost visibly, they were now deep and soulful, no longer lost in the past.

"I'm coming!" His voice was soft and warm, but deep, a sound that you could almost touch, hold, and wrap around you like a blanket on a cold night. A smile formed on his face as he let himself fall forward, off of the branch. He fell through the reaching arms of the tree, wings folded tight to his body. He reached out, and grabbed a branch, the wood groaned in objection to his weight as he swung around, landing on another branch, and hoping the rest of the way down. His decent finally ended as he dropped to the thick grass below, landing on his feet. He grinned like a child that had just gotten away with something he knew was wrong, as he looked down at the one who had called him down.

She was a digimon. She looked like an anthro fox, or rather, a vixen. Pure, snow white fur covered her feminine form. The fur on her chest and tummy looked visibly softer than the rest, as did her large fluffy tail, like a fine down, compared to the silky soft look of the rest. The fur on her paws was a pale blue, and the same shade of blue could be seen on the tips of her ears and the end of her tail. The fur on top of her head was longer than the rest, and just as white, except for the few locks that fell over her face, which were the pale blue of her ears. Her eyes looked big and innocent behind the blue strands, and were a stunning pale grey that almost visibly sparkled in the moonlight. The fox girl was about four feet tall, and she only came up to the half dragons mid thigh. This put the giant of a man at about twelve feet tall, and his immensely long tail at about seventeen feet in length.

She looked up at him with her stunning grey eyes. "Nova, it's late, what are you doing up in a tree?" Her voice was soft and light, something beautiful and fragile, yet laced with an edge that was far from delicate.

Nova knelt down to talk to her, so she wouldn't hurt her neck looking up at him. Now that he was closer to her, he could see the sleep in her eyes, and he couldn't help but smile. "I'm sorry Kae, I was just getting some fresh air, thinking..."

Kaenemon looked up at him, knowing exactly what he had been thinking about. "Alright, but come back in, it's cold." She said, forcing down a yawn as she pouted.

Nova grinned again, and nodded. "Alright, come on then." He said, standing up, and following her back inside. They had set up a simple shack against the stony side of a cliff, and were spending the night in it. Kae almost hoped back onto the mass of blankets

they had laid out. Nova sighed as he looked at them. "Man, I really can't wait till we get back home; I can't take another night on the ground like this." He groaned, lying down next to his friend.

Kae just smiled as she looked down at him. "I think it's nice out here, I've been completely comfortable so far." She smiled, looking down at him.

Nova looked at her sideways for a beat. "That's because you've been using my stomach as a mattress for the past week."

She grinned in a very fox like manner. "Too true." She giggled and jumped on top of her larger companion, landing on his stomach and forcing the air out of him.

"Hey!" He gasped, looking down at her. He had to try his hardest not to smile as she curled up on his chest and looked up at him with her beautiful grey eyes, half hidden behind her hair. "You are evil."

"I know." She smiled widely, resting her head on his chest. They lay there for a while. Soon, the sound of Nova's heart beat, deep and soft in his chest put Kae fast to sleep.

Nova just lay there, listening to her breath, and the wind in the trees.

Part two:

The morning sun shown brightly through the cracks of the old wood of the make shift shack. Nova lay still, breathing deeply as he slept. His long tail was curled up around his leg, the tip twitching every so often. Kae watched from the entrance, smiling at her best friend of almost a year. They should have been on the road over two hours ago, but he almost never slept, and she sighed as she took a seat next to him. His tail twitched again, and he nuzzled into her back in his sleep, sighing. Kae suppressed a giggle, looking down at him.

"Hmmmm... At least he's not having the nightmares as much anymore."

Three hours later, they had packed up there things and started back on the road home. Nova had the same look from the previous night as he packed, stuffing everything as neatly as possible into the two large bags he carried. The kitsune watched him, leaving him to his thoughts as usual. They walked in silence for a while on the road, Kae riding on his back, hanging off of her friends' neck because she could not keep pace with his massive strides. The late morning sun beat down on the landscape, the lush green grass swaying thickly in the summer's breeze. The sweet scent of flowers and other vegetation from the fields and forests hung thick enough to swim through in the air. Kae nuzzled into Nova's neck, resting her chin on his muscled shoulder as he trudged along the dirt road, the scrape of rocks and dirt on his boots keeping his pace. She looked up at his face, seeing that blank and far off expression again, placing a weight in her chest. The kitsune nipped him gently on the neck, making him jump and look at her. She grinned, making no effort to hide her mischievous pleasure, making him laugh. She loved to see him smile, and found satisfaction that she was the only one that seemed able to do so.

He smiled and kept walking, his long tail waving back and forth in his wake. He had been lost in his memories again; he heard his mother's voice in his mind, the same as always, calling out to him. He sighed and let it go, turning to Kaenemon once more.

"What time is it Kae?" He asked, his dark eyes glittering in the sun. She smiled back at him, and the expression seemed to bring her pale grey eyes to light, glimmering behind her pale blue locks of hair.

She pulled a watch out of on of the bags on Nova's back. "It's almost twelve." She reported, so close to his neck he could feel her breath on his warm skin.

He smiled. "Let's keep going for now, well stop in a little while for a bite to eat, and then keep moving," He said, looking farther down the road, which seemed to end at the edge of a forest. They both sighed at the site of the trees. Forests usually meant that they were going to get attacked, but it was the best way home. Nova looked up at the sky, blue and without a single wisp of clouds. If he didn't get under some shade soon, he was gonna cook in the black clothes.

They reached the line of trees in good time, and decided to stop and rest for a bit. Kae slid down his back, between his massive wings and down his tail. Before she hoped off though, his tail twitched quickly, wrapping around her thin waist, and lifting her back up to his face. She giggled and pushed at his silver tail.

"Hey, put me down, I'm tired!" She giggled, looking at him with those pale eyes.

He smirked and watched as she mock fought him. "Tired, I've been carrying you around everywhere we go!" He said, laughing. He grinned, and expression that made the small rookie stop still, her innocent eyes looking up into his deep black pools. "I owe you for that nip back on the road..." He said, his voice deep and gruff.

Kae's eyes shot wide open and she squealed as she fought to free herself of his tail. "No! Oh don't you dare Nova!" She said, heat rising in her face. He grinned and brought her closer, dropping the two bags to the grass. "Nova! I'm warning you Nova Austin, if you do this I'll... I'll..." Her face burned crimson as he wrapped his arms around her small frame, letting her go with his tail, hugging her gently to his chiseled chest. Her blush was bright enough to show through her pure white fur as he closed his eyes, and nuzzled into her neck. His breath was cold, chilling her after the hot sun as it ruffled through her silken fur. She closed her soft grey eyes, no longer fighting him. His tongue flicked at her neck, like an ice cube against her skin, before he began to nibble her.

She moaned, and he stopped, pulling away from her, grinning evilly. She looked up at him, eyes glazed and half open in a daze. She caught a whimper trying to escape her throat wanting more. She shook her head clearing the fog and glaring at her best friend. "Damnit Nova I told you not to do that!" She growled, her face glowing with her embarrassment as she slid free of his arms, punching him in the chest.

"Ouch!" he said, laughing as he set her back on the grass, sitting next to her. "I told you what would happen if you nipped me again." He said, matter of factly. Kae just crossed her arms and turned her back to him, her large fluffy tail over her lap, hiding just how much his little act had affected her.

He laughed, and leaned down to her. "I'm sorry, alright?" He asked, laying his head next to her, looking up into her eyes. She just rolled her eyes and smiled.

Part three:

Later that night, the pair had found a good sized cave to rest in till morning light. Nova sat against the stone wall, grumbling as he wrapped a bandage around his left arm, a nice sized gash being covered up by the white cloth. It was still bleeding, and soon the bandages were soaked through crimson. "God damned Musyamon..." He muttered to himself as he tied the bandages, using his teeth. "I gave him a damned 'Ninja Sword', trying to cut me in half... And why is it that the big ones always want to kill you?" He grumbled as Kaenemon tended to the fire.

She shook her head and looked at him, beat up again. She hated watching him get hurt like that. She was the digimon; she was supposed to be fighting. But, he wasn't a digi-destened, so she was stuck in her rookie form, only able to watch as he went head to head with other stronger digimon. She sighed and padded over to the grumbling giant of a man.

"Well, you shouldn't fight bare handed against a sword." She scolded, and climbed into his lap. "Even if you are half dragon, you're not Mr. Badass in this dimension, you should be more careful." He looked down at her, and grunted.

"Yes, mother." He mumbled under his breath. Kae just smiled and leaned back into his body, resting her head on his chest. He looked down at her, and simple as that, he began to calm down. She could here his heart slow in his chest, returning to the calm beat that put her to sleep every night. She grinned smugly too herself, snuggling deeper into her best friend, getting ready for the night.

Nova murred. It took her a moment to realize what the sound was, and then that it had come from Nova. He never murred, growl yes, but never murr. She looked up at him bewildered for a moment. He met her gaze, and smiled.

"Thanks, Kae, you take good care of me." He said, leaning down closer to her. "You're a great friend, and a great digimon." He said, before kissing her on the head, and leaning back against the wall of the cave. She just looked up at him, completely baffled by his sudden change in attitude. He was friendly, true, but this was different, this was affectionate. His eyes were closed, and his face calm. A shiver went up and down her spine as she was reminded of his teasing earlier in the day. She blushed and turned away from him, leaning back and listening to his heart, letting it calm her, like every night. She listened, his breath deep and heart steady, and she drifted off.
