Buddy Fight: Fighting Magic

Chapter 2

Rules of the School

Who was this boy? Heck like she knew, but one thing she found out was he loved pie. He had no problem eating three to four pieces as they both sat outside the bakery. Being from the country though it wasn't all that strange to see someone eating like a pig. Heck even she wanted to join in, but to be a good fighter she had to keep her figure in check. Sill, he seemed nice enough, he did help her up earlier and even paid for their little snack.

"Want the last piece?" he asked her as he wiped his face of the pie goop.

"Heh sure." she replied as she took the pan from him.

Oh how her chocolate desires overcame her as she ate the last piece. For years she had been forbidden from eating any sort of sweets due to her training, but to have it back was just delightful. Even so she couldn't overindulge, or else she would really turn into a fat cow. Once finished she tossed the empty pan into the trash can and turned her attention back to him.

"So I take it you've been here before. What year are you in?"

"Oh no, I'm new alright. Yep, just an ordinary Rookie." he replied.

"Oh yeah, and you just so happened to know where everything was right?" she teased.

"It's true, it's just that after my training I would always ask my dad to bring me here, just for a little look you know? I guess I've been here so many times that my brain has become a map."

"Right..."

Things got quite for a minute before he spoke up.

"Yeah, it's obvious you're new here though. No weapon or sense of direction, you're fresh from the flock." he said as he kicked his feet up.

"Yeah, so are you."

"Ah, but did you read the rule book?"

"Uh..." was all she could say before reaching into her bag to pull it out.

"Hahahah big mistake girly."

"The name is Milia." she replied, slightly annoyed as she pulled out the book that came with her papers.

"Yeah yeah, look you don't have to get in such a hurry to read through that thing you hear?"

"Yeah, it's easy for you to say."

In all his years he had never seen someone get so worked up over a twelve page book before, but it was understandable with her being new and all.

"Here let me help you with that." he said as he yoiked the book away from her hands.

"Hey come on that isn't funny." she said, reaching across the table to take it back.

"Slow you road, I'm just going to summarize the rules. Most of what's in here is just history of the academy anyways." he replied as he threw the book into the garbage can.

"Charming..." she muttered before giving in.

"I know, I try. Anyways listen up, did you receive that metal band with your book and papers?" he asked.

"You mean this thing? Yeah." she said as she rolled up the sleeve of her shirt to show it off.

"Awesome, you'll want to keep that on. You see as you fight against other students and/or rival schools your points will increase with each win. Tests and quizzes also add to your total."

"Huh, so how does it tell who's won?"

"Simple, when a fight begins the band will home in on the one who struck first, and from there it'll track what's happening. When someone finally loses their band will shut down while yours will add on even more points, depending on the rank of your opponent that is."

"Oh...so the higher the rank is the points you get right?"

"Bingo, and since it is called Buddy Fight most tend to team up with a partner. It's probably best that way too since most have buddies." he said as he stretched his brown, fluffy tail out.

"But I didn't see you with anyone earlier."

"Yeah...I'll get one eventually, but for now I'm just flying solo. Oh yeah, one last thing. There are to be no fighting after eight o'clock at night. If you're caught points will be deducted, and you will be punished."

It almost made her even more nervous as she sat across from his, though his eyes never left her as he watched her.

"Hey, I know something that will calm you down. Come on, you'll love this." he told her, before getting up to leave.

Where was he taking her? Who knew, but at least she had someone to talk to at long last. For the past few hours all she had to talk to was herself, and that didn't exactly look normal to everyone else. Even if he was a bit weird, his heart was in the right place from what she could tell. He was a fast though as he ran along the sidewalk, but that was nothing she couldn't keep up with.

"Heh not bad for a cutie cow like yourself, but you'll need more than speed to survive here." he called out to her.

"Cutie cow?" she thought to herself as her cheeks lit up a bit.

No, no she couldn't get too attached to anyone until she was all settled in. Once he stopped though it was clear what was going on. Sitting in front of them was a shop with a large sign that said "Halbird's Weapons and Trinkets", a rather small store for sure, but once they entered an array of weapons and tools laid before them like food at a buffet.

"Welcome to Halbirds, my name is Tony, and who might you two be?" the hawk said as he combed back his dark green hair.

"I'm Caz, this is Malia, and she needs a weapon. Can you hook her up with something good?"

"Can I? Well let's just see what we're working then shall we? What's your preferred fighting style?"

"Uh...hand to hand mostly."

"Mmmm hand to hand, I have just the thing." he told them as he walked to the back.

As they waited though Caz began tapping his foot against the marble floor, signaling he was growing a bit impatient. From their position though they could hear him rustling around for whatever he was looking for before he went silent.

"Woo, I'm surprised we still have it in stock still. Anyways, take a look at this."

As they gathered at the counter he pulled the top off the brown box to reveal a pair of fingerless gloves, but not just any gloves, these seemed different. Sure it was made out of the same fabric, but imbedded inside the weaves was a smooth metal plate with a single open slot in the center, and they even came with their own accessories. Lined up in the center were three marble shaped spheres, each painted a different color, and with their own symbol.

"Huh, well that's kind of a let down." said Caz as he scratched the back of his head.

"Don't let your eyes deceive you, these are special. You see this fabric here can channel that of magic, and these little puppies, well let's just say if you already have a bit of magic in you you'd have to be nerfed. Each contains a certain element, lightning, water, and wind, and it's all limited edition." he stated before covering the gloves back up.

They seemed really nifty, at least to her, but the moment he said limited edition an alarm went off in her head.

"So, how much are we talking here?" she asked.

"Well...they're pretty rare to come by, and the materials are also pretty rare as well. How does 3 gold pieces sound?"

At that moment her heart skipped a beat. Three gold pieces? She barely made 1 silver piece at her old job, but three gold pieces for some gloves? It certainly put a damper on her mood that she couldn't get them, especially since her fists were all she knew how to fight with.

"Sorry, but I can't afford them." she said with a sigh, her head hanging slightly.

"Shame, well if you ever do get the money just let me know. They haven't left this store in over a year so there's no rush." he promised as he packed the gloves away.

"It's alright, I'll find something else later." she replied as she began walking towards the door.

Once they left it was all up to fate whether she would get those gloves or not, but in the mean time she needed to get to her room and unpack. With her head held high once more they both decided to part way for the time being.

"Hey Milia, mind meeting me in the academy square tonight?"

"What's your plan this time?" she asked, lifting a brow.

"Trust me, you won't forget it." he promised before skating off once more.

What did he have planned for her? Well, there was only one way to find out.
