Part 1 Loosing Mother ==================================================================================

A cold wind blew throughout the tiny hut, while the ice-cold rain pounded the roof and leaked in several places. The only spot of warmth that could be found in the place was the makeshift fireplace at the far end of the hut. Due to the strong wind and the lack of a door, the flames were quite small. In the light of the fire though, there could be seen a small huddled mass of fur, gently rising and falling with each breath of the owner. A noise, just barely audible, could be heard coming from the creature in question, it sounded like a sniffle, yet was not from the cold. It was from the heartache of what had happened earlier in the day...

==================================================================================

"Mommy, mommy," a young Eevee called to its mother, an Espeon, "look what I can do!" the youngster was standing on her hind legs, witch was quite a feat because of her disability; she had no tail to balance herself, a genetic defect of nature. Even without the aid of a tail, she was able to keep herself steady, that is until she tried to walk. She wobbled then fell back, landing on her backside.

Her mother smiled at the antics of her child, and did not react to her falling, because Eevee are a small Pokemon, so there was little distance to the ground. "Jenny," the Espeon began, "you know you shouldn't do that. Are you okay, dear?" She could not suppress the giggle that had been building in her throat since her daughter had fallen comically. Covering her muzzle with a paw, she brought it under control once more. A low rumbling could be heard, and she looked to the sky and her smile faded.

Not looking toward her mother while tending to her sore bottom by rubbing it with a hand paw, she replied in a mock pout, "No, I'm hurt here and all you can do is laugh." Finally, she looked to her mother and saw that she was starring at the sky, witch had been growing steadily darker, and called out, "Mom?"

Jenny's voice broke the Espeon out of her stare; she shook her head clear before replying.

"Huh? Oh, sorry dear. I think its time we return to the hut, don't you?"

Jenny thought for a second, it was getting dark and she did not like the way the clouds were looking. So, with her observations, her mind was made up. "Yes."

==================================================================================

Their hut was about a half hour walking distance from the field they had been at. About half way there, however, the Espeon began to feel like someone, or something, was following them. Jenny was in front of her mother, so she felt the same way as her mother, but because she knew she was followed by her mother. She was oblivious of the danger that was stalking them.

Hiding in the shadows of the trees and bushes, was a wild Pokemon's worst fear: a trainer. This trainer, however, was like no other; he was a cruel, sadistic, and perverted man. He would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and there were thousands of Pokemon that could attest to this. He only had respect for one Pokemon, his own Machamp, who was just as cruel as it's master. When it came to fights, they were only satisfied when the opponent was beaten to within an inch of it's life.

After a few minutes more, the feeling hadn't abated, and the Espeon was beginning to worry. She let out a soft ‘psst' to get Jenny's attention. Jenny stopped, and looked at her mother questioningly. "Jenny," the Espeon whispered when she had gotten up next to her, "I have the feeling we're being followed. Keep your eyes and ears open." Jenny nodded and looked around, taking heed of her mothers advice.

==================================================================================

The man stalking the Eevee and Espeon from the shadows was watching, and from the Eevee's actions, he figured that his presence was felt. He knew they'd be on their guard, which is how he liked it, he preferred his quarry to be alert. He moved further into the shadows so he could overtake the pair.

Less than a minute later, the man had moved into position about 200 feet in front of the pair and was ready to ambush them.

==================================================================================

Still on the lookout, Jenny and her mother continued on their trek to their home. About 3 minutes along, however, her ears picked up a slight rustling. Her ears perked up and she halted. Seeing this from her daughter, the Espeon did likewise.

From a bush to their left sprang the human. "Come with me quietly, or battle me," he shouted at the Pokemon, "I don't care witch." With an evil grin, the man didn't even wait for a reply, and threw out the poke ball containing his Machamp.

Stunned a bit but still able to think clearly, the Espeon shouted to Jenny, "RUN! GO HOME NOW, HE'S A TRAINER! I'LL DISTRACT HIM, GO NOW!" Without hesitation, Jenny did so, but she didn't go far away. She ran to the right, into the bushes, then hid there, watching the confrontation.

Her mother, not knowing Jenny was still near, shouted at the man (in Pokemon language), "You want a fight, you sonofabitch, you got it!" she rushed the Machamp with a quick attack. She was dead set on keeping Jenny safe, that just before she impacted with the attack, she used a bite attack on the leg of the Machamp that was so powerful that it broke the bone. The Machamp crashed to the ground and began to howl in pain. The man was dumbstruck at such a display of ferocity, that his mouth hung agape. His expression soon changed back to the evil grin, because he had a backup plan; he knew that one day he'd need it, but was pissed that it was for such a, to his mind, weak Pokemon. The Espeon, backed away from the Machamp she had just rendered immobile to face the man again. She had a triumphant look on her face as she shouted at him again, "That the best you got? Get the fuck outta here before I do the same to..." she trailed off, starring at the man.

As the Espeon was shouting ‘nonsense' the man had reached behind his back. And when he brought it back in front of him, he held a .356 Magnum (I told you he was cruel and sadistic). He took aim, not at the Espeon, but at the Machamp that was writhing in pain. "You're of no use to me anymore," and shot it in the back of the head, silencing it's whimpering and ending its misery.

From the bush she was hiding in, Jenny heard the shot and saw the Machamp's body go limp and blood flow freely from the gaping wound. She tried her best to block out the images in her mind, but to no avail. That scene was now etched into her young mind, inevitably to scar her permanently.

The heartless man, after watching the Machamp go limp, then turned the gun to the Espeon. She flinched and backed up a little. The man shot at the ground, just in front of her and she froze in fear. The man slowly advanced toward the Espeon now, still with the sadistic grin plastered to his face. "Now, little Espeon," he said, attempting a kind tone and failing miserably, "we can do this the easy way, or the hard way," as he said it, his grin grew wider. He wasn't about to let her make it easy, he didn't like that.

The Espeon regained her composure and before she realized it her body set to motion the instinct to survive; she lunged at his leg and bit down, hard. He wasn't fazed however, this was what he expected. He took a few seconds to savor the pain as if it were pleasurable, then blindly aimed the gun's barrel at the Pokemon's temple.

==================================================================================

Jenny had her eyes closed up until the moment before her mother attempted to defend herself. She saw her mother lunge and bite. Then, before she realized it, the gun was pointed at her mothers head and the man pulled the trigger. The gun went off with a loud, yet muffled, bang. The Espeon that had been her mother immediately went limp and sprawled to the ground. In that one moment, Jenny had become an orphan. She didn't want to stay any longer, but because of her closeness to the man, she didn't want to risk getting caught.

==================================================================================

The man had just finished his sickening act. He knew that the Eevee was still close by, and began to search for her. Jenny had been sobbing, and was now breathing heavily leading the man by the sound. He heard the heavy breathing and thought to himself that with all the noise she was making, it would be easy to sneak up on her. He was right, however Jenny had heard the rustling around her as the man crept closer, and just before he reached to grab her from the bush, she ran out between his legs. His arm stopped as he looked back at the fleeing Eevee with a bit of puzzlement his face and voice as he said, "what the..." His sneer returned and he began to give chase.

==================================================================================

Jenny ran as fast as her little legs could go toward her hut, darting in and out of the trees. She couldn't let him catch her, so she detoured left. She knew where she was going and hoped it would work to her advantage; she was headed in the direction of a clan of Pokemon that had been abandoned by a former trainer. Her sire was amongst the Pokemon there. He hadn't wanted anything to do with Jenny when she was conceived, aside from knowing that she was healthy when born. Her mother never talked bad of him, and gave her the information to either include or exclude him from her life. She had only met him once, that had been a few weeks ago.

The human was keeping his distance hoping to give the false sense of security to the Eevee, while keeping her in his sight. Eventually however she made a turn around a large boulder. He thought that she would be hiding behind it, so he figured he'd begin to try his silent approach again. He figured he'd wait a few minutes though, he wanted to make the feeling of being safe stronger for his quarry. Unknown to him, the roles of hunter and hunted would soon be reversed.

==================================================================================

Part 2 Loosing Father ==================================================================================

After the turn at the boulder, Jenny continued running for another hundred feet, where she then turned to go into a thick patch of trees. This was it, the outskirts of the Pokemon village. She still had a few hundred feet to go to get to the actual dwellings, but she knew it wouldn't be long now.

From a nearby tree, a Pokemon guard was hidden, an Arbok. "Stttopppp!" the Arbok commanded when he saw Jenny. She had a feeling that there would be a guard around here, and she'd been proven right. She slowed to a stop as the Arbok slithered down the tree trunk to approach. The Arbok knew of only one Eevee in the immediate vicinity of the settlement, but had to be sure this was the one. He would have only greeted Jenny, had he been able to clearly identify her, but the wind was working against him today. As he slithered closer however, her scent became strong enough so that he was able to put his mind at ease about a possible intruder. "Aaahhhh," he said in a raspy, serpentine voice, "Jennnny, howww gooood too seee youuu..."he trailed off to take another deep sniff. The smell of sweat and fear radiated from the little Eevee, along with a smell, quite faint, that he loathed, human.

"Jennnny, whattt issss thhhe mattterrr? Youuu reakkk offff ffearrr!" the Arbok stated, while keeping watch for whatever may have her in such a state. Jenny couldn't help it now, and began to weep, she had to tell him so that he would gather the others from the village, so she began to tell him what had happened.

==================================================================================

The human had seen the Eevee go around the boulder, and thought that was where she was hiding. When he reached it he went for the attack, ready to grab the Pokemon. He launched himself around the boulder and much to his frustration, he only grappled with thin air. "Fucking hell" was all he could say before he saw the clear paw prints in the soft earth next to the boulder, marking the way that the Pokemon had gone. His sick smile crept back onto his face, as a disturbing thought passed his mind, ‘this one's causing me a lot of problems...I wont let her have the same quick death as the last one.' He continued his hunt, slowly tracking the paw prints left behind.

==================================================================================

The Arbok had a stunned look on his face. He had just finished listening to what Jenny had to say. She was still crying. The Arbok had heard the gunshots, but had mistaken them for falling trees. He was furious to hear that a human had such disregard for a Pokemon, and if he didn't already hate humankind, he surely did now. "Commee, Jennnny," he said, not asking her, or even waiting for a reply. He hoisted the tiny Pokemon with his tail and made a beeline for the village.

About 5 minutes later, after they had reached the center and told of what had happened, there was a mob of angry Pokemon willing to fight to help little Jenny. Arbok picked 10 Pokemon, aside from himself and Jenny, to go out and teach the murderous human a lesson. The Pokemon chosen included: 2 Charmilions, 3 Machoke, 2 Bayleaf, Hitmonchan, Growlithe, and Vaporion, Jenny's sire.

Vaporion was distraught to hear of such atrocities and vowed to himself, to keep his offspring safe no matter what, his parental instincts finally kicking in. He decided that, since it was his child in danger, he would take charge. None of the others had any objection after seeing the fire burning in his eyes, some of them were even a little frightened at his new, sudden ferocity. So the band of Pokemon set off to eliminate the human threat from their area. It would have been only a matter of time anyways that he'd stumble upon them and no one, especially the Arbok, wanted to have that human in the midst of their village.

==================================================================================

Oblivious to the fate that awaited him around the next bend, the man continued to follow the light trail left by his quarry. He didn't have much time to even contemplate there would be an attack on him until it was too late.

==================================================================================

Vaporeon, at the head of the group of marching Pokemon, suddenly stopped and put his nose to the sky and began sniffing. After a brief moment, he turned his head to face the others, "The human appears to be close, he must be following Jenny's tracks. This is perfect," he stated, his tone lowering to little more than a whisper, "we can attack him on our own conditions. Arbok," Vaporion stared at the snake, and Arbok looked at him, ready for an order, "you take the Charmilions, Bayleaf, Jenny, and yourself and set up an ambush the rest of us will create a second group to cut off his escape routes." Arbok nodded, along with the rest of his group. Just as Jenny was turning to follow, her sire spoke up, "Jenny," she looked to him, and he beckoned her over to himself, when she was close he whispered directly into her fluffy ear, "I will not let anything happen to you, do you understand?" She nodded, and he continued, "after this is over with, you can come live with me." After he said those final words, he was off, leading his group to set up their part of the ambush.

==================================================================================

The human walked a used trail, still following the Eevee's trail, when out of nowhere, he found himself immobile. Something had caught his legs and was wrapping itself up his body. The moment he looked down, he realized what it was that had caught him, an Arbok. The Pokemon was strong, he had to admit, but it didn't yet have his hands, he went to draw his weapon, but before he had the chance, 4 other Pokemon emerged from the bushes: a set of Charmeleon and Bayleaf. He was still determined to get away. He found the gun, and just then saw the head of the snake Pokemon. He leveled the weapon at the Arbok, who was too preoccupied at the moment to watch the human to see that he had a gun pointed at his head until a moment before, when Jenny tried to shout at him to look out, but by the time that he managed to comprehend, he was as useful as a snake-skin belt. His coils fell from the body of the human he had trapped a few moments ago.

Vaporeon had not expected the human to be that quick to react, and was more than shocked at the loss of his long time friend. He snapped out of it an instant later, now not only motivated to safeguard Jenny, but now to avenge his friend's death. He silently gave the command for his group to advance, and an audible one for the others to attack, since their group leader was now no longer to command them.

The human had now realized that he was set up by the Eevee that he thought had been an easy target. He knew that these had to be tough Pokemon when the second group emerged. ‘that little sneak...' he thought just before that evil smirk came across his face. The Pokemon were advancing upon him slowly; slow enough that he grabbed the spare ammo he had and replace the spent rounds he'd used.

The human was just done getting more bullets in his gun when the attacks came from all directions. Razor Leafs from the Bayleaf, Flamethrowers from the Charmeleons and Growlithe. The fighting type Pokemon held back so as not to get hurt in their close combat part. However, the human was very good with his gun, and had downed the attacking Pokemon before they could even get their attacks to full power. The flames went out and the leaves were just scattered near his feet. Vaporeon, Hitmonchan, and the Machoke were stunned at how fast their friends had been stopped. The fighters were up now; they had to stop this human from doing any more damage. Fate was not on their side in this part of the fight, however, the man had enough time to change the spent rounds, and had fired 4 more into the charging Pokemon, killing them all.

Vaporeon was more than scared, but he had made a promise to Jenny to not let this human threaten her any longer, and he wanted nothing more than to avenge the lives of his fallen, fellow Pokemon. The man apparently hadn't seen him yet, so he decided to make a move before he did see him. He made a mad dash at his top speed determined to end it all in one, quick attack. He was preparing to bite down on the human's throat, when the man turned and fired. The shot had no immediate affect on the irate Pokemon however, the Vaporeon kept coming. He had used his last bullet in the chamber, and was now defenseless as the Pokemon lunged and clamped down on his throat. The force of the attack caused the man and Vaporeon to fall to the ground, but the Pokemon held its grip.

A few minutes passed, the man was dead from suffocating. Jenny came out from the bush she had been told to hide in. She wanted to go and give her thanks to her sire, but was devastated to see the pool of blood around his chest. She went over to him and nuzzled at his head, tears coming in streams. He had kept his word about keeping her safe, but it was at the cost of his own life. She gently removed his bite from the human, and nuzzled the side of his head once more before she decided to make sure the threatening human was dead. She went over to the man and leapt upon his chest. She took in a deep breath, then bit down on his throat. Even with her small teeth, she could still manage to do a lot of damage. She held her teeth in place and began to tug, trying to remove the flesh. After a few minutes, she had a pretty good sized chunk of flesh removed, and was able to see his jugular. Jenny then bit and tore it from his body. There was no doubt in her mind now that he was dead.

Jenny got up and began to walk back to the village with a heavy heart full of sorrow.

==================================================================================

When she arrived at the village, all the others were there waiting for the return of the group. She asked if everyone could be quiet and she began to recount what had happened. By the time that she finished, there were several Pokemon on the ground crying over a friend or mate and the rest of them were all crying. Jenny thought it would only be appropriate to give the fallen Pokemon a proper farewell, and the rest agreed to it. They went to the spot of the confrontation and gathered their fallen friends to take back to the village and burry them.

It was almost dark when the fallen had been buried. Jenny decided it would be best if she just went to the hut where she had called home for all her life, as short as it had been, so she quietly left the villagers and headed home.

She was meandering home along the path, and began to cry again. All the crying she had done today had caused the fur on the sides of her short muzzle to become dark and flattened.

Jenny got home and began to make a small fire. It was dark already and the storm that had been coming was closer, now only a few minutes from starting to rain. The small fire that was left this morning was still burning faintly, so she set a few more twigs from the pile outside. After that was done, she sat by the fire, thinking about the days events, and began to cry again. Jenny lay down and cried herself to sleep, wondering what she would do now that she had no parents to comfort her...
